I don’t know if you’re going to see this, but I just want to put it out there, I think there’s someone posing as you on one of your videos and trying to scam people into thinking you’re giving away money… I got a message like that today and it was giving very much scam vibes. I think you need to know about it before someone maybe gets trapped in it😬
The 1 star did really well given that they're 1 star lol. But I kinda think that's overpriced for basically a normal cake with a bunch of balls of icing on top of it. Kevin did amazing! And the edge of the waffle cone bowl looks realistic actually since some waffle cone bowls are wavy like that. I think what's missing from his cake is color. Maybe some sprinkles or cherries...some sort of pop of color. And whip cream of course lol.
you do realize all of the ingredients kevin used for the cake, buttercream, decoration, equipment, and the amount of effort it took is more than $200, right? $200 is cheap for a cake. at big chain grocery stores sheet cakes are like $50 - $80, and it’s lower quality, and isn’t done by a baker but a worker who was assigned to the bakery; which is why grocery store cakes are so simple. the 1 star cake’s is amazing for the price, i wouldn’t pay any money for kevin’s cake, but it’s amazing and it’s only his third try !!
@@thatssoari3533idk why you think that but his is just cake, buttercream, fondant, dye and cocoa powder. Those ingredients can be expensive but less than $50 to make lol. Plus she said the bakery quoted her $130 and then she said I’ll give you $200 to do a little extra and go above and beyond, but they didn’t even follow the brief of doing a bowl at all. It’s a normal cake with scoops of buttercream. It looks pretty but it’s not wildly fancy, skillful, or expensive to make. She gave them $70 EXTRA and they didn’t even give her what they promised for $130 and to me that’s the difference. Because it’s a fine cake, but it’s not what they promised.
I love the role reversal and constantly roasting each other 😆 Kevin always does an amazing job, he should definitely do more videos in front of the camera 😀
@@TheIcingArtist I know he might not feel like doing it all the time, and that's his choice to make that we should respect, but I do absolutely love these videos with the two of you ❤️ The chemistry you have together and your humor, gentle teasing but clear support and love for each other make this such a unique baking channel. Even when he's in the role of cameraman that still comes out, though! Love you guys, and congratulations!
I agree!!! It was awesome to watch him and look forward to seeing him on more occasions. Just filming, you can see he has picked up knowledge and technique.
For me, it's the level of skill that went into Kevin's design! There were so many hard points to his that were so challenging. I felt that the 1 star took the easy way out a bit. They quoted $130 for the inspiration cake that was just round with the drip and the waffle bown on top. All other designs that were the ice cream in the bowl cakes they said would be upward to $200, so I gave them $200 to really push them selves!
Same, I love chocolate. I like the cone bowl aswell better than just a regular cake. Plus, he has no experience with cakes and she even did her ice cream cake a specific way and he said nah, imma do this. And it was a good idea and looked good too!
This proves watching you decorate cakes you can learn to beat any one star bakery. Now we need a blind test to figure out which one is his and the bakery.
I like the colors of the ice cream from the 1-star bakery - but Kevin's hands-down is a better designed, better decorated cake and looks absolutely amazing. It looks like ice cream in a waffle cone bowl as opposed to being just lumped on a cake. Bravo!
Love how supportive Laurie is of Kevin! Rightfully so, he was very creative and did an amazing job. He’s clearly learned a lot from years of filming. He’s really hysterical too! Especially about the sassy strawberry hahaah
Ii like Kevin’s design more, I do like the colorful “ice cream” of the 1 star bakery. A cherry on top of Kevin’s would add a pop of color. Kevin’s definitely hit the brief - the one star bakery fell short- especially at $200!!
Kevin, your cake is amazing! I think the thing missing from your cake was white buttercream piped on top to look like whipped cream, and a cherry, and that’s it! It was so beautiful! Please don’t retire, it’s so fun when you jump in and do your own cakes along with Laurie! You guys are both so fun to watch!
I love the color and little details like the "whipped cream" swirls and cherries on the 1 star cake, but they didn't really create anything more than a regular cake with the "ice cream" scoops on top. Not much of a challenge for a professional baker, but it's very eye catching. I like the concept of your husband's cake much better and thought he executed it very well! I think if there were a little color it would have been more eye catching as well. What a great job he did!

Laurie - "it's all frosting & nobody can eat that." My kid, 3 years in a row - "Mommy, I want a frosting cake for my birthday." Me - "You mean a cake with frosting?" Kiddo - "No, I mean a cake made completely of frosting!" 😂 Also, maybe put a cake pop center in the middle of each ice cream scoop?
Kevin took the win! Without a doubt. He did the harder way, and it still turned out better. If Kevin added sprinkles it would have added that something he felt he was missing since it was so chocolate on chocolate. But it looks amazing. Good job Kevin!
He did amazing!! I think he missed color like cherries and rainbow sprinkles. Next time maybe make the “ice cream” as large cake pops so it’s not just solid icing?
Question: I’m not a cake decorator, but I am an artist, and I’m curious why you are using such a small brush to dust the fondant with coloring? A large, flat, soft bristled brush seems like it would cover more easily and with less streaking? You guys are so fun together, I love all the laughing!
i have made a fair amount of cakes in my lifetime, so maybe I can answer this question! In my opinion, the reason why I've always used a smaller brush is to give the fondant a dynamic look so the color doesn't look too flat. Especially when trying to make fondant look like a hard crunchy material, like a waffle cone, you want the different levels of texture that a small brush brings.
honestly you said exactly what i felt. given the inspiration they were shown vs what you got, it seems like they picked the easiest/safest parts of different cakes and made something that although colorful and fun, was pretty basic, and absolutely not worth 200 dollars. your husbands creativity and bravery in trying new things just knowing what he *wanted* it to be like and not necessarily *how* to make it look that way was amazing to see, and the end result was super cool. when he first said "i feel like it's missing something" my mind immediately was like "yeah, a spoon!" lol.
Kevin’s cake is incredible!!! It just needed some color dimension and it would have been PERFECT. The one star bakery’s cake was super cute, just way too safe!
Kevin's got natural talent that many just do not have, way to go! His has my vote. I think it does need a splash of color, maybe some colored sprinkles and a cherry to top it off, but the skill needed to make that bowl is very impressive.
Looking at Kevins cake makes me want to eat it, like it looks like real icecream to me. I also love his idea of crushing oreos into the icing and how he did the cone. 👏👏👏 bravo!!
Marry your best friend, I highly recommend it!! We were friends for years before we started dating. 11 and a half years after our first date... and we're still having fun!
@@TheIcingArtist so lovely. You two have such beautiful chemistry together and exude so much love.glad you are recovered from covid. Such a scary illness. Best wishes to you both
Kevin's cake is so cool! looks like a real sundae. I think both his cake and the bakery cake are good for different occassions / aesthetics, I like that Kevin's looks like a real bowl w/ icecream
I love this! Under no circumstance should you retire Kevin. A lot of us come here to learn and be inspired. Watching you tackle this challenge was amazing and you did an incredible job!
I actually really loved how colorful the 1 star bakery cake was, but for a first timer her Kevin did a wonderful job, but I'm shocked the 1 star bakery charged $200 for their cake! I would've loved had he added a cherry and sprinkles for a pop of color.
Wow! Kevin for the win!! trophy-yellow-smiling No doubt in my mind 😃 If you really wanted to add some color, maybe a cherry on top, but I love chocolate, so I'm happy with it just as it is, and LOVE how you did the waffle cone- so much more imaginative than the bakery- AND they charged $200 for it?!?! And I'm betting that your icing was yummy, so taking equal bites of it with the cake, I'd probably have no problem eating the whole cake too 😋 You two are so fun with how you tease each other but are also so supportive- love the dynamic- I hope we see you in front of the camera plenty more times to come 💕
Kevin did amazingly! Can't believe that he's only ever decorated 2 cakes before this one. He's obviously been paying attention when you've been cake decorating.
I love Kevin’s cake. The only thing missing is a cherry on top. The other one is nice, but it looks like an ordinary cake. Kevin’s cake looks like an ice cream bowl and makes me want to get a spoon and dive in. Great job Kevin. Please don’t retire. We’ll give you a break but we want to see more!
MORE KEVIN! I'm so impressed with how much the icing looked like ice cream and his little technique with the waffle cake pattern. I would want Kevin's (if y'all didn't have Covid, lol) because I am obsessed with chocolate, lol.
Wow Kevin is so talented! Camera man extraordinaire and icing artist? He definitely can't retire! Also I think that is the best 1 star bakery cake I've seen on this channel. 👏👏👏
I love Kevin's cake so much better. He used the waffles cone to stay true to the pictures submitted. I do like the colorfulness of the icing of the 1-star bakery, but they failed to incorporate the waffle idea. I would select Kevin as the winner.
Kevin you did a phenomenal job!! You're always a winner in my book!! Laurie you are just so stinky cute cheering him on. I'm so proud to support your channel and the both of you ❤️
Kevin did awesome! I would only add some whipped cream and color through a cherry or sprinkles?!? I think the bakery too the easy route and Kevin’s cake was FAR more complicated!! Kevin is the winner!!!
I spent this whole week rewatching your videos waiting for a new one and it’s finally here. I haven’t watched it yet but I can tell just by the title and everyone else’s comments, that it’s gonna filled with fun. Thank you 🙏
I love Kevin's cake. I just wish his ice cream scoops were brighter. Every other aspect of his cake is leaps and bounds better just because he created a bowl for the cake to sit in. That technique is genius! And I will definitely try this.
I just recently found your channel, and I'm going back and just watching random different videos of yours... I just watched this one..... and Kevin did a fantastic job on his cake!!! 🎉
I LOVED this!!! ❤️❤️❤️ Kevin did SO well, especially for only his third cake. I think his cake wins by miles it looks like it would be worth so much more than $200 and far higher than a 1 star bakery. I think if Kevin had popped in a small bit of colour like a cherry on top, sprinkles or a strawberry just to add a little more colour dimension I'd rate it at least a 4 star ⭐⭐⭐⭐. We definitely need more of the 'icing artists ' both you and Kevin, you're both so full of joy, great ideas and great designs. I hope you both get better from your coughs too. 😊
I am SO, SO happy you did this video! Yes please more content with Kevin baking!!! This cake looked EXACTLY like ice cream. I love how scooping the icing really gave it that real ice cream look and started wondering how he could have gotten the same effect with cake. What if he'd scooped the icing, then scooped out the middle of the scoop (while it's still in the scooper) and replaced it with a cupcake in the middle?
I like Kevin’s more as it is chocolate and not as much icing as the 1 star. The 1 star kind of just covered the top in scoops of icing and I feel like it is mostly icing (which I personally wouldn’t love) but Kevin used a lot for his cake to show what it was meant to be (which is an ice cream sundae) though I would still be able to eat his, it’s just that the 1 star used so much more icing to the point I would be able to eat the 1 star. Great job Kevin, you nailed it and thank you for the awesome video love you both!
I love you guys so much that y’all could be making anything and I would watch, just the relationship between the two of you guys is so fun and sweet to watch, y’all are total couple goals 💖💖💖
Kevin's had more work to it. I vote for his because I love how the cone bowl looked so neat. I would have maybe added some color but it looks wonderful as is. The one star cake is much better than you would have expected though.
Laurie,I would love to see more videos like this! OMG, I think that Kevin’s cake decorating level has levelled up so much! I would choose his cake over the 1 star bakery any day! Love you!
They really were both good... Though the bakery cake was pretty basic for $200. Kevin's is def worth at least the same. Though a pop of colour on the top would've been a grand addition - giant sprinkles, a cherry or some mint leaves perhaps! Great job Kevin!! Plus you two are just super cute together!
Husband's was great, I did like the 1 star bakery, but when you brought his out, it looked so much better. Could you have a cake pop instead of just pure icing? Or maybe a mixture of cake and icing? 😋
Icing with stuff mixed in: crumbled cookies, streaks of caramel, chunks of chocolate, smashed berries, whatever seems right. There's all sorts of different ice creams you could choose to imitate for the purpose of lowering the proportion of icing. Cookie dough, moose tracks, etc. For seemingly plain scoops with cake in the center, I think the way to do it would be to bury litttle balls of cake in your icing and mark them with toothpicks before chilling. Then, for each one, remove the toothpick and use the hole left behind as guidance for scooping. If the little pinprick is still visible after scooping, just put that side down on the cake, or cover it with a topping.
I have an idea for you! NO retirement- ONE MORE-Next time have your husband & a 1 star bakery both do a concept with room for creativity (that he chooses, you don’t know about) & you have to GUESS which one is his & which one is theirs!!!
I am not a baker, decorator but I am a graphic artist. That being said, the only thing I would have added would have been colored sprinkles to pop against the chocolate!
My top favorite videos on your channel are the ones that include Kevin. Since he has no experience other than observing "the Icing artist", he is more relatable to a "youtuber" that watches more cakes decorated then actually makes them. Plus you guys are such an adorable couple with awesome comical interaction.
Kevin's cake is amazing but it would use a bit more color! I liked the 1 star bakery's cake better, but seeing as it's Kevin's 3rd time that's amazing and I definitely want to watch him decorate more cakes!
Kevin - Bravo sir. You did one heck of a job. It looks so real. Your cake is definitely better than the bakery cake. Your idea for making the frosting into Ice Cream scoops was stupendous. They are very real looking. I had cake decorating classes about 40 years ago, I can definitely say, you’re a better cake decorator than I could ever be. P S. You can’t retire we all love watching you decorate. You not only have watched your better have decorate so many cakes, you seem to think about how to do things different and maybe even better. Have a great weekend.
Hi Kevin and Laurie, I just wanted to thank you for your videos. For showing the good, the bad, the moments of stress and anxiety, the plan b’s, as well as all of your successes. Your videos inspired me-very much a novice baker-to push past the feelings of fear and intimidation and take on the cake projects that were calling to my heart. Though I had never attempted to frost a 4 tier cake before, I decided to give it a go & submitted it as an entry in my state fair. I won not only first place/division champion, but best in show! It was cool to receive that kind of validation and without your videos encouraging me to jump into the process, I would have never had the motivation to truly challenge myself as a baker/decorator. Thank you.
Kevin, it was my idea! And YES, finally my idea that I pitched videos ago has been completed. YAY! The only thing I would have added was sprinkles on Kevin's cake but other than that it was perfect! Way to go Kevin!
First off... wow he did amazing! I absolutely love his cake and how realistic it looks. WAY better than the 1 star cake. Plus I really love seeing videos with both of you 😊 He can't retire from being on screen lol. Such a cute couple. He definitely deserved the praise for his 3RD CAKE creation!! 👏 👏
I absolutely LOVE how you two just HYPE EACH OTHER UP! And have so much fun! Very fun video, and no we are not gonna let him retire when he’s at the peak of his career!! Kevin’s cake was absolutely AMAZING I LOVED IT! 💖💖💖👏👏👏 Awesome work as always!
Oh Kevin so kicked butt on this!!! I ❤ how sweet they are together& how he was like eh you know what it’s fine no worries 😉 helping beautiful Laurie to see it’s no biggie! I ❤them both!
My favourite episodes are the ones with both of you working on cakes together! I love watching you two tease each other and enthuse over each other’s successes! And I think the one star cake copped out with doing nothing waffle cone when that was the whole concept. Kevin’s waffle was so good!

Boyfriend to fiancé to husband. I really wanna see the wedding vlog. You guys are so cute together, definitely define what made for each other means x
I actually really loved how colorful the 1 star bakery cake was, but for a first timer her Kevin did a wonderful job, but I'm shocked the 1 star bakery charged $200 for their cake! I would've loved had he added a cherry and sprinkles for a pop of color.
Yess, me too :)
Sheet cakes from a baker are about $100 so I don't think $200 for a round cake of that size is that surprising a price even for a 1 star bakery.
@@Haylla2008the price of butter for all the icing would have been expensive as well.
You two are so fun together. ❤
I mean Laurie gushing over Kevins cake is the sweetest.
Kevin needs to give himself more credit he did so well for his 3rd cake!
Kevin killed it❤️
I love how sweet you guys are, and how much fun you seem to be having together!
I love how the last video he decorated in he was your fiance now he is your husband. Congratulations you two!!!
I absolutely love these videos with Kevin in! He's done so well considering this is only his 3rd cake! Would love to see more like this!
Wow Kevin is so talented! Camera man extraordinaire and icing artist? He definitely can't retire! Also I think that is the best 1 star bakery cake I've seen on this channel. 👏👏👏
It just needs a pop of color on the ice cream and it’s perfect ❤
I love Kevin's cake so much better. He used the waffles cone to stay true to the pictures submitted. I do like the colorfulness of the icing of the 1-star bakery, but they failed to incorporate the waffle idea. I would select Kevin as the winner.
I completely agree! Kevin's just looks unfinished to me. He should put some colorful sprinkles on his and a cherry on top and it's far better.
The best part of this is how much fun you two are having together.
HUSBAND!!! congratulations 🥰🥰
I discovered your channel not too long ago and I really can't have enough of them. I love watching you two, great content and such a nice dynamic.
Thank you 🙏
Love how much she hypes up Kevin at the end! 💗
Let's be clear...there is no downside to the cake being half icing. I love it. Too fun.😁
I know that I'm a year behind but Kevin that cake you just did was AMAZING, you did so well, you should be really proud of yourself. X
I love Kevin's cake. I just wish his ice cream scoops were brighter. Every other aspect of his cake is leaps and bounds better just because he created a bowl for the cake to sit in. That technique is genius! And I will definitely try this.
No he can’t retire! The videos with Kevin are my favourite! I love watching you two together 😍😊
Finally she posted I love her vids so much she's amazing 🌺
Sorry for the delay!! This one took a lot of planning and we had all the extra work in getting the Buttercream Survival Guide ready fo you guys!
@@TheIcingArtist oh it's fine Laurie I know how hard it is to make these vids the good thing is that u uploaded ur video now 😉
I just recently found your channel, and I'm going back and just watching random different videos of yours...
I have NO idea about cake decorating, but the ice cream scoop texture is SO GOOD.
I have no words to say😅 but these are so cool 😎
I love you guys so much that y’all could be making anything and I would watch, just the relationship between the two of you guys is so fun and sweet to watch, y’all are total couple goals 💖💖💖
Kevin's had more work to it. I vote for his because I love how the cone bowl looked so neat. I would have maybe added some color but it looks wonderful as is. The one star cake is much better than you would have expected though.
Only commenting to support the Icing ArtistS ❤️ please don't let him retire, I LOVE when you guys are both in the video
He has a similar amount of patience to me. “I don’t want to do this anymore.” Hahahaha I could never be a cake decorator.
I had so much fun watching your videos. it's full of positive feelings and I love it!
Husband's was great, I did like the 1 star bakery, but when you brought his out, it looked so much better. Could you have a cake pop instead of just pure icing? Or maybe a mixture of cake and icing? 😋
I was thinking the same with like trying to avoid just icing balls and doing some sort of cake pop type thing instead
Kevin's cake was fantastic! I love your relationship, you can see the love
I love how Laurie spends the whole episode hyping for Kevin's work.
Youre doing awesome Kevin! You're a natural! and your a wonderful husband. Lauri is Blessed!
Please don't retire. u r amazing. Ur decorating is epic
You two are so darn cute. Kevin's waffle cake is incredible....going to try it out!! Two thumbs up for the "Icing Artists" idea ❤
This was so cute! And your faces as you were watching without commenting killed me. xD
Your husband's cake is definitely the best in this video
Hi Kevin and Laurie,
I just wanted to thank you for your videos. Thank you.
On behalf of all of your subscribers, we want to see more of Kevin! 😃 sorry Kevin 😂
YAAAAASSSS!!! #CouplesContentHereWeCome!!! Give us some good video ideas!
Please more Kevin! He’s doing so well! And it’s really cool to see how well he’s doing for just starting out!!
Funny how it went from boyfriend to fiance to husband in the titles when they've been married the whole time
I absolutely LOVE how you two just HYPE EACH OTHER UP! And have so much fun! Very fun video, and no we are not gonna let him retire when he’s at the peak of his career!! Kevin’s cake was absolutely AMAZING I LOVED IT! 💖💖💖👏👏👏 Awesome work as always!
I so want to eat Kevin’s cake. It looks so much more decadent.
Oh my gosh...I absolutely LOVE this video! You two are so precious together, and the cake Kevin made looks DELICIOUS!❤
Petition to prevent Kevin from retiring!!!
Oh Kevin so kicked butt on this!!! I ❤ how sweet they are together& how he was like eh you know what it’s fine no worries 😉 helping beautiful Laurie to see it’s no biggie! I ❤them both!
I’d take Kevin’s cake any day. I like the simplicity and class look of Kevin’s cake, plus it looks more realistic.
My favourite episodes are the ones with both of you working on cakes together! I love watching you two tease each other and enthuse over each other’s successes!
And I think the one star cake copped out with doing nothing waffle cone when that was the whole concept. Kevin’s waffle was so good!
That mound of icing on top looks like heaven but that's because I'm Built Different. His cake looks SO good.
