  • In this video I remove the front seats from my 2010 Audi A3 Sportback 1.6 TDI and deep clean the carpets.
I also give details of an upcoming video where I will be replacing the oil filter housing/oil cooler to cure a coolant leak on the 1.6 TDI engine CAYC, as used in many Volkswagen group cars. I also detail the great deal I got via eBay for 5 litres of G12 evo coolant.

Today I have removed the front seats on my car in order to give it a thorough clean. However I didn't disconnect the negative side of the battery. In the process I have lost plastic connector that sits on floor to keep the wire down on the floor ( the cable guide) at the driver seat. Well everything seems ok except that the driver side electric window is not working now.
I also removed the wiper blades yesterday as I wanted to remove the front suspension strut. I think the shock mount on the top is a toast. Things did not go as planned as the 10mm bolt securing the wiring on the strut looked very rusted and sort of rounded off when I tried to undo it. Therefore I called it a day as I didn't have enough time to deal with it. I also tried to remove the dust shield off the disk however the torx screw got also rounded off as they probably have never been replaced. Obviously in order to get the torx screw off the only solution seems to be hitting them with a flat screw driver to create some sort of grip. As I said I didn't have enough time therfore I put everything back on.
In the meantime when I tried to use the wipers they didn't work. I checked the fuses on the side of steering and found all fuses ok. Then all of a sudden with few on and off ignition flicks the wipers began to work. Therefore the wipers are ok now.
I also remember that I may have put one of fuses in the wrong slot. Hence the electric window on the driver side is not working now. Well that begs the question whether there are four fuses in that fuse box that control the electric supply to the all the electrical windows or just one. As I said the rest of the windows working fine except the driver side however I do hear the click when I push the button down?

Do you need to disconnect the battery?

Officially you should whenever working on airbag systems. I kept the ignition off so as not to trigger a fault code when the seats were disconnected.
