The river has changed much in the last 20 years. My late father and I use to fish that same spot in the spring. We would catch crappie and sauger. We very seldom caught a walleye. Now days I rarely catch a sauger at that spot but only walleye. The same is true on the other side in Ohio. Mostly walleye and few sauger.
Look at all those street bricks, wow. The city must have dumped every torn down building in town down there. what dam are you fishing? I live between lock 12 and 13. Pike Island in Yorkville Ohio across from route 2 in Warwood WV and Lock 13 which i have never fished. Well not never but 13 used to be 1/2 mile from my home but when they built the new lock 13 Below Clarington Ohio and across from New Martinsville WV they blew this one up.
What is the West Virginia rationale for only allowing to keep 2 walleye 18 inch minimum but across the River in Ohio you can keep 6 (6 singular or comb with sauger and saugeye)? It seems like the limit should be on sauger since so few are caught nowadays. Last I got mainly walleye and very few sauger.
Wow, I grew up fishing the Ohio in the 60's and 70's. Couldn't eat anything. The cat wouldn't even eat them. I mercy killed many fish covered in tumors, one eye, no eyes, 3 eyed. Deformed, it was unreal. I'm so glad we have life in and on the river again. Everything is thriving. we have eagles nest all over the river now because they don't die when they eat a fish. I'm still a bit scared to eat them. I read those reports and it seems most lakes and certainly rivers are contaminated. I would love to eat them. Any thought for me on the fish consumption?
You kidding me? 50 years ago maybe not, but absolutely can now. The only river I'm not keen on eating fish out of in my area is the Cuyahoga and Mahoning, but I eat them from the spillways all the time. Same water that's in the lake. But I've got lakes full of bluegill and crappie, so I only keep walleye every so often. Always wanted to go down and fish the Ohio
I was so looking forward to fishing this spot this spring after watching you guys. But after the train derailment I am in doubt. Will it be too dangerous to fish the river below the spill? What a shame for I remember many good fishing days at the spot with my late father.
Looked like a good day. When was it slow? Lol Was that Crestview dam? I’ve never been up that way but we are in New Martinsville visiting family this week. I’m gonna fly the drone and try to possibly get some fishing in at the dam here. Heck yea!
@@5050fishing Haniball lock and dam. Lock 13. Lock 13 used to be in Shadyside. Up the river about 30 miles. They built this dam and blew the old one up. I live about 30 miles north on the Ohio side. Those are some slab walleye. I'm gonna have to come down there.
I am a new subscriber and new pretty new to fishing. I was wondering why you said you did not like to eat the bigger Walleye. Trying to learn why. Do they not taste as good or it there another reason? Thank you for the great videos.
I think most folks will agree that eating quality goes down after about 22" in length. though bigger fish out of a river are better eaters than the same size out of a big lake or reservoir.
Many fishermen (especially in Ohio) won’t share their spots. Personally, never understood that philosophy but it’s a real thing here. Just letting you know, not many Ohio fisherman will share their spots so don’t expect and answer. LOL It’s different in the south and up north.
Hell yeah. Those are some nice fish. I went once and only caught one. My boy caught two but they were small. Hoping tomorrow we’ll have better luck. Are you still using those googan swimbaits

Beautiful Walleye on the OHIO River .I enjoy the scenery just as much all the wildlife nature at it best and not a lot of people.

Cook them well lol
i heard of people soaking the meat in salt water to get rid of some of the mercury, i personally still wouldn’t eat out of the ohio
Hell, I drink from the river when I'm fishing it. I eat everything I catch from it and I'm still healthy, a little bit.

They definitely won’t be safe to eat anymore
What’s the daily limit for walleye, sauger, saugeye on the West Virginia side?
One per day, per person, per hour, per pound, per management.
the key difference between when I have walleye fight or not is depth, if she deep they fight if its shallow they wet sock!
which dam is this?

I like to let the bigger fish go because they produce more eggs
More mercury in bigger fish
