i find that when it comes to hunting and fishing the old ways tend to still be the best ways, my grandpa uses this same recipe for his fishing but he adds a little bit of cooking oil to the mix so the scent lasts longer in the water and we've had great luck with grape jello. thank you for making this video it brings back good memories

I went fishin by a limestone bank in DeSoto Texas 10 mile creek.....I had a throw line with some American cheese on the hook.....I pulled one catfish after the other from the waters....This is one survival way of making it......

Chicken hearts by their selves are very good bait, they stay on the hook good and have a lot of blood in them,we use them on limb lines, juglines and trotlines and catch lots of blues and channel cats on the Arkansas river

Many decades ago my daddy would make catfish bait (carp like it, too) with chicken livers. He would go to the drug store, buy a cube of asafoetida, crumble it up, mix it in the chicken livers, put them in a canning and put the lid on loosely. He would let it set for days. Interesting smell 🤪 He taught us kids to make up some mud and wash our hands in it. You didn't rinse it of right away, it would dry and fall off, then you washed your hands; the mud thing worked pretty good and the bait worked great.

How cool, old school! Back in the day working out of town near the Ohio river my coworker and I bought rod& reel combos and at night would go catfishing. No bites. An older gentleman suggested buying chicken gizzards & livers and leaving the package in the back of our work truck in the hot sun for at least 2 days. Told us how to rig everything up too. Bingo, we caught catfish! Best of luck finding a good fishing location. BTY, I subscribed...take care :)

Why do all that work ????? I just went online, and ordered catfish trap from amazon.....baited it, took to a pond where I had permission to go to, then I cast it out from shore, left for the night.....Went back around 6 am, had over 100 lbs. catfish to haul out, take home clean, vacuum pack freeze, and then I fried up a large 12 pound batch of thick cut filets, with potato's, and onions, and garlic.....Made corn bread, and large spinach salad with sliced tomatos, had bush beans simmered in barbecue sauce, steamed some corn on the cob with melted butter, and pink Himalayan sea salt, and I had plenty of good cold beer to drink with it....DEELICIOUS !!!!!!! Took me the whole day to do all of it , but it was sure worth it folks !!!!!!! I got catfish enough to last a long time, didn't cost me a dime, didn't have to pay anyone to do my fishin !!!....I used leftover chicken , that's all I put in the trap, just a mess of meat scraps....

@@OldWaysGardeningandPrepping Hi Teresa...just wanted to give you an update. The catfish recipe worked pretty good, I caught 3 cats, but they were only a foot long, and threw them back to grow up some more. I also soaked pieces of hot dog in the imitation vanilla, with a little natural peanut butter, and was getting a lot of hits, but didn't use treble hooks, and the fish were just stripping it off for a free meal...lol. Maybe later in the year, I'll catch bigger ones, thank you and God Bless

You can make your own vanilla extract at home. Amazon sells vanilla beans. Put 4 or 5 in a jar. Add enough 100 proof, or 80 proof vodka to fill the jar to the top. Put on cap. Sit out of the sun for 6 to 8 weeks. You can drain off your new vanilla and reuse the "beans" again! Let sit longer, do the same as before. There are RUclips videos on it. Makes a lot, very cheap. GOD bless

They do trout "season" i think is called here reston, VA and they charge like $55. i got in a few times buying arround 150 in total for my mom and cousin but were never able to get any. I stopped participating and only do carp and catfish now. Sometimes bass but because i think Americans have overrated the bass, is not a real fish. They artificially dump 9-11 inches basses all over ponds and lake (feels so fake to go after them and say u went fishing) but there some places that do have real bass...
