    One of the best modelers I`ve seen to actually learn from. I`m very new to the hobby, Lockdown era. I`m glad you mentioned about people giving up on a model because I was nearly one of those people , but I did start with the Meng tank and mine roller, which nearly sent me to a lunatic asylum. But thank you for what you are doing , your channel is the best.

    Always learning after my 50 years off from our hobby. One thing I always come away with is the need for more micro tools. My days as a child in the 60's Testors glue and paints were it really, and my $2.00 kit. I guess I have a grand US in my goodies now. Well much fun to you too! John Cebu City, PH.

    Hello Nigel. Another great model build begins. Your sharing of your knowledge, skills and experience is truly appreciated. While I learn each time I watch your videos I also have the opportunity to build a better model thanks to you. It has been my experience that the real teachers/instructors have no issue sharing their techniques, others jealously guard that knowledge. Looking forward to all the builds you have going, the Scammel, the Hellcat, the Chieftan and now this Sea King. You are covering the gamut of my modelling genre and you thoroughly explain each step of the builds. Please keep up the great tutorials. Thank you. 1:10:35

    Coming along nicely Nigel. When you drilled the holes in the fuselage halves. Did you forget that the instructions said to cut off a bit from the bottom of the fuselage half? It was towards the back end, the top fuselage half on that page in the instructions.

    • @NigelsModellingBench
      @NigelsModellingBench  Год назад +1

      Well spotted.. I forgot mention it. I am leaving that until I join the halves together as it will leave a hole that I can fill and sand at the same time.

    This panel filling example has inspired me with confidence to get back to blanking off the windows on a Tamiya 1/48 Lancaster!
    I was planning not to buy or start any more kits for at least a while after the Chieftain…and then Airfix go and do this and I know your build will be awesome so I’m not sure I’ll be able to leave this on the shop shelf for long once it’s out😄

    Hi Nigel i,m a new subscriber to your video,s , my Sea King arrived this morning and after watching couple of box reviews and this part of your build , i am really looking forward to getting on with mine but it wont be for a couple of weeks , as im in latter stages of building my 1/350 USN Enterprise ,and also have 1/48 Italieri F22 Raptor on the go aswell lol ,i,m not anywhere near your standard of modelling as with most modellers we stated out as kids and then life came along and BOOM your modelling takes a back seat . I am now retired and into my mid 60s and decided late last year to give it a try again and here i am , could not believe how much the modelling world has moved on i can only hope to get at least half as good as you but your video,s will help me along , i have just ordered some of the glue you recommended , may i ask where you get your tools from i have a few craft knives but all i can find is straight on a 45 degree ish angle and i think maybe having different type of blades may make a difference also you used a tool to put the glue in with i tried to catch what you called that tool but along with getting old come deafness aswell lol many thanks for any infomation you can pass onto me All the best Tye

      Welcome aboard sir. I use a swan morten no 3 scalpel with no10 and 10 blades. the tool for super glue is called a glue looper. You can use a pin or cocktail stick or even break the eye of a needle in half. I have a beginner video series playlist which includes tools.

    Nigel, A great start to the Sea King! I had never seen or heard of the trick of using the Blue-Tak as a support to pieces being glued in place - I learn something new with every one of your videos. Also, just thought you might want to know, my viewing of the video was interrupted by ads about every 6 to 3 minutes (the closer to the end, the more frequent they became).

I was searching for a guide to this build and came across yours which is perfect. I have waited for years for a decent Sea King kit to come out and this one is perfect. I used to fix helicopters in the Navy and worked on 771NAS for 2 years. I even worked on XV666! Now if only I could find my old hard drive for some reference photos

    Great stuff as ever, Nige. I'm pretty sure the U means Utility in the HU5 designation. I couldn't agree more about aspiring to build better models. Always aim to build a model to the best of your abilities., whatever level that is. Having learned from that make the next one 5% better and so on and so forth for subsequent models Remind yourself that you will NEVER reach perfection and never be fully satisfied with your efforts but you will enjoy the attempt.

    Hi Nige, looking forward to this. After you asked the the question on one of the previous videos about ‘Old 66’ I did some rudimentary research and found that airframe was an SH 3-D which is what the HAS1 in this kit was based upon by Westland. I would suggest the Airfix would be best for your plans rather than the Hasegawa kit. There will be surgery required either way. I made the Hasegawa kit several years ago as #820 from 771 NAS which lead me to look at visible differences between HAS 5’s and HU5 as I was questioning my research from all those years ago. Far be it from me to question Airfix research but XV666 seems to have had updates to it’s airframe etc during its time with 771 NAS and as depicted in the colour call out sheet it seems to fall somewhere in the middle of them. The main difference would appear to be the baffle in front of the engine intakes. If it remains as just a baffle then there appears to be all the antennas etc on the underside of the hull from it’s time as a HAS 5, which would make sense (we won’t talk about it appearing to be numbered 821😊) without all the underside antennae and numbered 823 I believe it should have the full filter system ahead of the intakes. My point is check your references carefully and take your pick as it look’s like it can be done either way. I think XV666 may have been one of the few HAS5 to have been converted to an HAR5 by having all the interior sonar stuff ripped out while retaining the search RADAR on the spine but I can’t find any definitive evidence to substantiate this. Interesting Airfix 1/72 version of XV666 is sold as an HAR5…

  • @BenjWarrant

    Would it not be simpler to put a thin layer of the flexi black CA around the edge of the opening and then push the panel into place, which will squeeze the glue into the gap which you can then quickly trim and save all the subsequent hassle of masking everything and then applying the glue to fill the crack?

    • @NigelsModellingBench

    Possibly a daft question but why don't they put the ejector pins to act on the runners instead of the parts?

    • @NigelsModellingBench
      @NigelsModellingBench  Год назад +1

      No such thing as a daft question John. There are ejector pins all over the sprues mate, some part have to have them or they will bend and buckle or snap off when the sprue is ejected. Well placed vs stupid ejector pin marks can make or break a kit. Some of the old HB and Trumpeter stuff was ridiculous.

    Great first video Nigel. I like how you explained the filling and sanding ofvthe seams. I have an order in for the flexy glue as well as their masking fluid. I have my pre-order in hopefully later this month it'll be on my doorstep. Just curious, was their a reason you didn't wet sand? As far as a 35th scale Sea King...where do l sign up?

      I rarely wet sand on plastic or primer Ray. Not many sticks will withstand wetness, but funnily enough, the sticks I was using will work in the wet.

    Thanks Nigel. Stupid question - on a real helicopter those unused windows they are really so flush with the surface? The whole panel is replaced? Not just some piece of metal to close the window hole?

    • @NigelsModellingBench
      @NigelsModellingBench  11 месяцев назад +1

      Never a stupid question. First thing I did was researched to see if they were panels or just were never there. Indeed, they were never there so the surface is flush.
