The Sea King HAR. 3 is a modified Search and Rescue (SAR) variant of the Westland Sea King, entering service in 1978 as a replacement for the Westland Whirlwind HAR.10. It first saw operation with the RAF in 1982 and was later manufactured by Westland for the Royal Norwegian Air Force, the Belgian Air Force and the German Navy. In 1992 six upgraded HAR.3As were ordered for the RAF, fitted with a digital navigation system and improved avionics. The HAR. 3 would endure as a proficient SAR Sea King, providing around-the-clock SAR cover across the UK and Falkland Islands. The Mk3 Sea King left RAF service in 2016, although the Mk7 is expected to remain in Royal Navy service until 2018. The standard SAR four-man crew consists of two pilots, a radar and winch operator and a winchman/paramedic.

Thats a lovely model, I have built it before but it fell and broke beyond repair. Next time I shall use primer ,as it certainly helped the application of the yellow paint.

I think a white primer such as Tamiya spray would be more appropriate.

Very good video! Nice to see you tackling a more advanced 'next level' kit from the Starter Sets. 😃
I built this kit recently - albeit with a different colour scheme - the RAF version in grey; it was a great build and looks excellent 👍
I have the new 1/48 Seaking which I'll start after I finish an Airfix 1/35 Tiger (early) with full interior, which has been a bit of a 'challenge' as some parts aren't a great fit, but overall it's come out pretty well....man those individual track links are a pain though!! 😜

I have this kit, it builds into a lovely model, for the more experienced modeller, added rivet detail with a rivet wheel will enhance the model as the actual Sea King has lots of rivets

I built this one a year ago and while it is a well detailed kit, i found i had to use a lot of filler on the fuselage. And yes, I'd recommend using primer before putting on the yellow paint. It was the first full detail helicopter i had built in many years.

Thanks for sharing the video. You built a nice model. I wonder why starter kits includes only acrylic paint. In my personal experience is easier to brush enamel paint specially if using flat enamel as in the case of military aircraft. Is it for cost? "eco"- awareness? or any other reason?

The instrument panels are so fine that brushing them would not be easy. How did you do it!..?? 16:54

Before painting, a surfacer is applied to the surface of the kidult and the applied surfacer must be dried to be colored. Did you brush it after applying the surfacer?? 16:54

Airfix need to seriously include a flat wide brush for painting lager parts..the brushes included are not big enough for fuselage or wing painting

Why wasn’t the new recent release not given this scheme

    • @samwalker8893
      @samwalker8893 9 месяцев назад +2

Yep, a major oversight on this part seeing nearly everyone recognises that one, wouldnt mind no official scheme but with no suitable transfers we cant even adapt it

I never use the acrylic paint I throw them out, and use the good old Humbrol instead

    Got this on my wishlist
    Just finished the spitfire vc
Wondered if it would be easier to paint it yellow when it's still in its sprue?
Also wonder if Airfix have a Tornado GR1 or GR4 kit ?
