That's a great kit design for a starter set. I have the old tooling Airfix 1/72 Tiger, and the not so flexible "rubber band" tracks broke long ago. This new design looks a lot better. The video had a lot of great tips for beginners. The only thing that could be added was applying a black wash to the engine air grates, which is super simple to do.
One of the first kits I made - maybe 50 years ago. In those days this was a 'Series One' kit sold in a clear bag with a paper header. Quite easy to make a fairly decent job of this one, making it ideal for beginners who need to be encouraged by a successful experience.
When painting, I use 6mm flat brushes to cover large areas rather than the (otherwise perfectly useful) supplied brush. A set of flat brushes for a few pounds or dollars from craft sections in big stores are perfect for this! Unless you're absolutely convinced that using £20 sable brushes gives superior results that is!
If you’re going to shoot your tank with a BB Gun I suggest that you add weight to the chassis so the tank doesn’t go flying on the first hit. This is how my early models met their demise.
I got my Tiger almost a week ago and wanted to state that as soon as I opened it one of the biggest pieces on the sprue was cracked, don’t know if it’s from Airfix themselves or the shippers. Should I glue the crack together ?
With the many discussions over the 'correct' colours and markings for AFVs, aircraft etc. that occur periodically, I recently bought this kit and painted it in red and yellow stripes because it's MY model and I'll finish it how I want to - ! 🤣
Wasn't the Airfix Tiger (and all other Airfix military vehicles, come to that) originally marketed as being 1:76 scale? Or is this a different kit altogether to the old Tiger kit (I guess it was the late 1970s when I built one)
Inho, these wheels and tracks do not belong on an early rubber-tyres-Pz. VI, To make th9is a 1944 late Tiger with steel rimmed wheels, he complete wheels should be painted like the rest of the tank.
No, tiger 131 us what's considered a DAK early, meaning it had different rear and front fenders, half of the side skirts parts were tilted up, the filters on the rear, s mine launchers and the early drum cupola. The version airfix have depicted is a mid production tiger 1. Hope this helps
Plastic Kit Modeling is not rocket science, and this video shows that it is possible to make a fine model almost regardless of ones skill level. Now go build something plastic:-D
This kit was designed for beginners though, like their new 1/72 Spitfire starter set. If somebody wanted a super detailed kit, they could get a 1/72 Dragon Armour Pro Tiger kit.
The original Airfix tank kits were designed to be played with after construction. The old Tiger kit also has far less detail and many glaring omissions like the rear turret stowage bin and the exhaust covers.
Awesome instructional tips and great for me as a beginner, think I’ll buy this to get experience and fun aspect
Thanks John, great to hear you want to give the Tiger I a go. Make sure to share you progress on our social channels when you do, we'd love to see it!
@@OfficialAirfix I wonder can you guys make a 1/76 kit of the German 188 ton tank the maus, since I always wanted one for my collection.
@@Emilystar1095 it’s unlikely because now airfix is a mostly aircraft centered company

Just built this kit with my young son, he loved every minute of and so did I. Hopefully it's the first of many he will build.
I always loved the old humbrol videos- glad to see the scalemodelmedic again
Just bought this from Lidl for £6. Last time I attemted an Airfix kit was about 45 years ago and it was a mess. Great vid, thanks for the tips
I've done the same great little kit

The old kit was instead in 1/76.
Excellent video! I purchased this kit before viewing this, your tips for the construction are great!
Enjoyed the Tiger 1 vid. Going to purchase this as my first Airfix model!
I haven't made an Airfix kit since the early 80s. I'm going to make this, and a diorama!

This was amazingly well done, really good for people new to the hobby to see what you can make with out of the box stuff. Really really impressed!
Nice, Gentle and Very Helpful Instructions 👍
Thank You Very Much 🌷🇬🇧
Great video, explained everything beautifully, a huge help to beginners I'm sure, well done :)
Great little kit.. million thanks for the video..
Sand large areas with a small bit of 180 grit to encourage adhesion
Great video, thanks 👍

Stop the paint from not sticking washing washing the model in warm soapy water will help with the paint

I'm planning on buying this kit so I can display it with my vespid maus

What is the tan colour that came with the kit? I ran out building it and could only fimd gold colours
I wish I had known the technique of using a bit of box to apply the glue when I was a kid. Stringy bits of glue everywhere!

Yes this kit is the new tool made in 2020 in true 1/72 scale. The non-starter version contains length and link tracks and separated road wheels.
I just bought 2 from LiDL for a pound each.
Inho, these wheels and tracks do not belong on an early rubber-tyres-Pz. VI,
To make th9is a 1944 late Tiger with steel rimmed wheels, he complete wheels should be painted like the rest of the tank.
To paint the rubber, just mask off the wheels etc with a hundred small pieces of masking tape.
There are better and easier ways to do that, but u got to start somewhere, good luck with your hundreds of small pieces
@OneofInfinity. I was joking. 🙄🙄
Fantastic kit for a starter but them paints i wouldent use i prefer revell accrylics or enamels
diorama missing!
I would have primed it first
Can I make Tiger 131 from this kit?

I'm amazed they didn't make it an early production vehicle, actually.

Don't buy the starter set, half the bits are missing! The 'proper' kit is actually pretty decent apart from the missing zimmerit.

It's to much of a toy ,I want the old air fix tiger

Why are you rivet counting a beginner's model? Surely if you have time to nick-pick you have time to find the old Airfix Tiger.
There's a non starter set version of this kit that has two extra sprues with separate road wheels and link and length track, tow cables etc.
@@BattleshipOrion He's nowhere near articulate enough to be a rivet-counter, he's probably just an idiot.
