I'm 52. I'm 3 weeks younger than the youngest member of Radiohead. This is going to sound like massive overstatement, but this song is among the finest work of my generation. This song will be found by archeologists and excuse all our faults. It is one of the perfect songs.
Agreed. I can't listen the actual album at all. The From the Basement versions are far better performed and sounding, particularly Reckoner and House of Cards.
Been waiting for this one. The band touches the face of god with this song. Jonny is a classical composer and does the scores for PT Anderson films. His strings and Thom’s harmonies and lyrics make this a top five song of all time for me.
For some strange reason that outro with that strings always give me some kind a good feel, like hope or a good memory. Has been my favorite Radiohead song for a long time.
I think the basement version is even better. This is one of those songs that you listen to with good headphones in a dim peaceful setting and just vibe out I think it's such a beautiful song. I love the outro it's beautiful, especially in the version from the basement.
Fun Fact: in the early 2000s the band was working on a very heavy and thrashy song called "Reckoner" and even played it live a few times. They eventually fell out of love with it and ended up sticking to its coda section, building a whole new song around it with a totally different feel: the "Reckoner" you have just heard. They just kept the title and released it on In Rainbows. The "original" Reckoner was eventually reworked and released as a Thom Yorke solo track called "Feeling Pulled Apart Like Horses". The Smile has been performing that one in their encores.
I feel like when you're ready, In Rainbows is the perfect album to review in its entirety. So maybe wait to do more In Rainbows tracks until you're ready for the Album review? There's plenty of other Radiohead in the meantime ...
Quite possibly my favourite Radiohead track (depending on the mood). Thom Yorke has mentioned that Reckoner has a John Frusciante influence in the guitar.
the "in the basement" version is arguably on par with the studio version. Some might even say its better! Love this song, did you notice the "Golden Moment" in the song? Check it out online! It makes listening to this song after your first listen that much more fascinating!! Love Radiohead...
The golden ratio thing is wild, especially since it wasn’t intentional. I always find myself missing the strings on the live versions, even though it is still great.
Every time I hear this song, I think "why don't I listen to this song more?" As my name might suggest, I am obsessed with words. Definitions change over time. Currently: 1. record - a recorded song 2. album - a collection of recorded songs 3. vinyl - a media format for a record or album that is played on a "record player."
Funny that you start off mentioning the term album. The almost imperceptible titular chorus line "In Rainbows" comes at the golden mean of the album run time.
Volume is always way too low on these videos. Love the channel though, just thought this would be helpful because I'm sure others have this issue also.

Agree.
I totally agree.
totally agree... my favourite song since the moment i discover it and i suspect, until the moment i will die.
All things pass away but it's impact is eternal
I second this! The « From the basement » version is a must!
Lemonshaker
None of their other performances compare!

Its the best version of this song fs
@@malkmusRulesAgree 100%
My only criticism of this song is that I wish the outro was longer. That vocal. Incredible.

Good ear! Thom has said on several occasions that he was paying homage to John Frusciante of the RHCP on this one.
Interestingly the background lyric “in rainbows” appears at the golden ratio of the entire album, how cool is that?
@@nirodha60 Really! Very cool!

Wow, i would've never thought. Those songs are nothing alike.
Great band, great catalogue-so much depth and creativity….. hope you get to “How To Disappear Completely.”

You teach me to appreciate Radiohead more and more with every video, love this stuff
Thanks for the reaction, can I recommend Daily Mail please?
From the basement
You’ve gotta check out any track from the basement
Thanks, Erol. I like the structure of how your videos are going: React, then break down the song.
Yer killin it…the whole separate like ripples on a blank shore part in this song is the highlight of the album for me.
This song is just perfect… AND! It is best experienced in the context of the songs around it, and the full album.
Quite possibly my favourite Radiohead track (depending on the mood).

That last string melody I hear Paul McCartney singing I love you. Not sure what song.
Black country new road, the place where he inserted the blade
My favourite song. Punto.
One of the best. Ever.
Yup, my favourite Radiohead thumb drive :D
Lol

Good call on the RHCP track. Great reaction.
