I bought my CNC (different brand than yours) after doing a lot of research and talking with others who are already using CNC's. One very important thing I got from everyone I spoke with, was that they either regretted not getting a spindle, or have already upgraded to one. That was enough for me to order mine with a spindle. A spindle is faster, more powerful, and MUCH quieter than a router. You can actually have a conversation with someone without wearing hearing protection with a spindle.

Thanks for watching. I would get it hooked up to a laptop right away. It's so much better than using the touch screen. Also an overhead dust collection system is a great idea. Last, if you're going to go with a drag chain you will have to extend your X and Z cables. The extensions are available from Onefinity.(I have everything to do the drag chain except the extension cables.) That would be a great start.
@@MattMadeIt123 Thanks. I have one set of cable extensions coming, but I thought I would need these to extend the placement of the control box. Sounds like a second pair of extension cables are needed if I use the drag chain?
The X/Z cable my machine came with is 36"'. So that needs to be extended to use a drag chain. The cables for Y1 and Y2 are pretty long and allow for different control box placements. But depending on your setup you may need 2 sets of extensions.
I went through a few free ones but wasn't really impressed with any of them. Bought VCarve Desktop, really liked it, and upgraded to Pro pretty quickly. Desktop limits your project size which I didn't like. The capability of the software is way above my skill level but I'm learning. That X-50 is going to be sweet! Thanks for stopping by.
Hey there! My cnc just came in yesterday and I'm excited to run it. I was wondering though, what programs do you use to design your projects with for the onefinity? I'm a little confused on how many programs I need to run the machine, would love some advice!
Congrats! I use Vectric Vcarve Pro.(started with desktop then upgraded) You only need the one program because it does both CAD(design) and generates gcode. So with it you can design a project and then the software will generate gcode based on your design. The Onefinity reads the gcode to perform the carving operation with it's built in CAM(motion) software. It's also pretty easy to understand and they have excellent support. There are several free options for software out there as well. I tried a few but personally didn't really like them so I bought Vcarve. If you're looking for something free and easy to use to get started I would go with Easel. Fusion 360 is a very robust program that is free to hobbyists for 1 year, but it has a pretty steep learning curve. Hope this helps.
After a lot of back and forth looking at other CNC’s, your video helped me decide on the Onefinity. All in with your upgrades how much should I expect to pay? I’m hoping to be under $3k. Thanks! Can’t wait to see what else you make.
I got the "stiffy" 3rd rail for free under a promotion. That promotion has ended. So I got lucky there. That said, I think 3K is a good realistic budget. You should be able to get the machine, a router/spindle, dust collection and build a table for it for 3K.
49x49. I have the machine offset to the right and back, leaving the motors about 1/2" away from the walls. This gives me a little open table space on the front and left side.
My table is 49x49 with the machine pushed as far back and to the right as I can. This gives me enough space for a future drag chain on the left. I would like a few more inches on the front though. If I built another table it would be 54 deep. Thanks for watching.
