Divine intervention by Slayer is a great album. It has a lot of seriously underrated songs on it. Underrated by Slayer themselves unfortunately, dittohead is the only song they kept in the live set on later tours.

Believe it or not, the Black album by Metallica had that effect on me! I was so into ....and Justice for all in 90-91, and then the Black album and i was like, what is this? Way too streamlined and commercial for me! It took about four years but it grew on me big time and now i love it!

The X Factor, Divine Intervention and Jugulator are amazing albums that are massively overlooked. Motley's self titled with Corabi on vocals is another one that doesn't get anywhere near the amount of respect it should get. Great video mate

I bought "The X Factor" the day it came out and hated it. I put it on the shelf for at least a decade, if not more. Hearing Bruce singing some of the songs on live albums made me revisit it. I quite like it now. I haven't listened to "Divine Intervention" since 94 or 95. It's definitely not as bad as "Diabolus in Musica" though. And I've always thought "K.F.D." was pretty good. But I probably only picked it up ten yrs. ago or so. I probably would've hated it in 97.

Always good to revisit with a new approach and appreciation for some albums that didn’t originally stick. Souls is one of my favs as it was the first Testament I discovered and Divine I have always liked also. KFD is highly sought after for some reason but I think it only has a couple of good tracks on it but I may have to revisit as it’s been a long time since last listening to it🤘

Only thing that stand out back then was the song "The Ballad" and the title song . I didn't get the hype then and still I don't. Recently i read an interview of the band, talking about this album, they mentioned that that period they wanted to play a sound like this, they had a kind of art need to express. Also they had a dilemma, the album not have the "Kreator " name but to be like a project someway. They decided not to do.

KIllers by Iron Maiden. When I first heard it, I didn't like the production, and I couldn't really get into Paul Di Anno's vocals. To me, it all sounded a bit rough, so I put it in my cassette case and forgot all about it. Fast forward a few years later, I was just sitting around at the house when I was digging through my case looking for something to listen to. I dug that one out, thinking to myself I haven't heard it in quite awhile and figured I'd give it a quick listen. So I threw it in the deck and for whatever reason it just clicked, and now it's one of my favorite Iron Maiden albums...

Coming out of the 80s, I think the early - mid 90s killed a lot of metal acts and those that survived took a long time to recover. That said, I'm not a hater of the blaze bailey or ripper owens era of maiden or priest, perhaps because it took me a while to actually buy them (although I think I grabbed juggulator when it first came out). Juggulator is a pretty heavy album, but I think it suffers cause its just not Painkiller. And while the Blaze era maiden albums are not Powerslave or Piece of Mind, neither are Fear of the Dark or No Prayer for the Dying. WASP I think were MIA for about 20 years but I actually like there last 2-3 albums they are pretty good, a return towards the 80s sound if a little updated.

Cool topic Darcy! People didn't like Testament's Souls of Black? That's surprising. I thought it was one of their better albums. Iron Maiden's The X Factor is so overlooked. But it really is a good album. Slayer's Divine Intervention is also overlooked but it's the last truly great album from them before getting back to basics with Christ Illusion.

Testament - 'Low' ('94), Coroner - 'Grin' ('93), Forbidden - 'Distortion' ('94), Motley Crue - self-titled ('94) & Kiss - 'Carnival Of Souls' ('97) are all underrated albums that are better than most remember. I always felt 'Divine Intervention' was the last great Slayer album. And while I checked out with Kreator in 1990 after 'Coma Of Souls', I respect their experimental 90's era & those albums up to 'Endorama' as they are far more original & interesting than anything they've done since 2000, which is a diluted version of the Gothenburg style. They are now followers, not leaders. 'Cause For Conflict' I would also recommend to earlier Kreator fans & 'Outcast' I would recommend to fans of their later work.

I have listened to all of those bands since my school years, still listen to them today. Most of those albums I bought when they first came out and still have them on cassette. My top album out of those is KFD by WASP love that entire album and still pound it today. I was not a big fan of Jugulator I only liked half the songs on the album, like Burn in Hell, Death row, 2 kick ass songs. Iron Maiden the X-factor I was disappointed only liked a couple of tunes, The sign of the cross and Edge of Darkness. I really like Virtual 11 with Blaze Bailey, way better I think that is an under rated album and still listen to it. Motley Crue I could care less about, lost interest with them after Girls,Girls,Girls. Shout at the Devil was their best album. I also lost interest with Slayer after Divine Intervention came out, I do like this alum and still listen to it. Best Slayer album Hell Awaits. I do like Testament, but they were a hit and miss band for me. Favorite albums, The New Order and The Legacy. Kreator I never heard until highschool when I got into thrash and death metal. Love Souls of Black. Had it and 'Practice' on opposite sides of a blank cassette back in high school. Never got that hate for it. Liked it since the first time I've heard it.
Still can't get into X-Factor. It just offers me nothing. Man on the Edge is the only song I like off it. And I agree about Blaze. I never thought his voice truly FIT. He always sounded like he wasn't quite THERE with the vocals. Like he was oddly off key or something. It's hard to explain.
Love Jugulator. Only song I don't like is 'Abductors'.. But I think the album is killer overall. At least with Priest they got a guy that can emulate their former singer, unlike Maiden and the "in between" Blaze.
I haven't heard KFD in years. I barely remember it. I don't remember not liking it, but just don't remember it.
And yeah, there ARE some albums that go the other way. 'Adrenalize' is one that comes to mind immediately. Used to love it back in High School when it was new but now it's just too poppy for me. And I like metal with some pop in it but that one aside from 'Personal Property', 'Tear it Down', and maybe 'Let's Get Rocked' is just blah. That album was the true beginning of their decline into pop ballad obscurity.

Great topic! Wow, I also saw bands touring for several of these albums. Jugulator, X-Factor, and KFD. All at small clubs. A weird time for metal in general. Ripper with JP was probably my favorite show. Really cool. Still not a fan of X-Factor. Jugulator has slowly grown on me though. KFD? Ugh! The samurai sword cutting up the pig carcass (fake I assume) bit on stage isn't something you see every day.

They tend to listen to all same crap, for years! Like Kiss or AC /DC, tenously playing unchanged sound and style. Not even realizing the best metal bands are Opeth or Haken!

I for one always have liked Souls of Black, strange how that works. The one that grew on me after listening to it more and more was Chameleon by Helloween, its still not in my top 10 by them but I can appreciate it more then at first. I read someone in the comments mention Never say die by Black Sabbath, that's another one I've always liked. Its different that's for sure than the rest of the BS catalogue. I wonder if Rush fans would say something similar about their 80s period. That era seems to get a lot of flack from Rush fans. Cheers Darcy thanks for the videos.

I love Testament but SOULS just never clicked with me. I like the title track and the mellow song (is it THE LEGACY...I forget..?) but really nothing else. To me it is easily the worst of the 5 albums from the original lineup. I'm kind of a mainstream guy so it always surprises me that THE RITUAL album always gets crushed in the comments but I LOVE that album. It's basically Testament's BLACK album. For that reason I think it's a really unique record in their discography. I try and try and try to get into Souls but..... other than those two songs I get nothing out of it.
Fun fact: Souls Of Black still made Martin Popoff's book of top 500 albums at number 336. Slayer's Divine Intervention made it at 240.
Slayer's Divine Intervention is the same thing for me. I rarely complain about production but I disliked the sound and I rarely revisit it. It felt very bland to me. Seems to me that Lombardo is a creative force in Slayer. When he returned for Christ Illusion that was a far and way the best Slayer album post Seasons. I remember lots of people praising it when it came out. A few years later, I see it towards the bottom of the Slayer rank regularly. I don't get that at all. I really don't. I thought Christ Illusion really sounded inspired. For a while there I was calling it my favorite Slayer album. I still listen to that one front to back without skipping ANYTHING on a regular basis. It's probably my go to Slayer album (when I'm not feeling the classics from South through Seasons). All 7 Slayer albums with Dave are excellent but without him, it's just a different band. The four without the original lineup are all very average to me. God Hates Us All is my favorite of those and I never listen to it. No disrespect to Paul (who performed on Testament's great comeback the FORMATION OF DAMNATION) but their was something about the magic of the four original Slayer guys.
Christ Illusion and The Ritual are criminally underrated. Great channel, great content, keep it fun, have a nice day.
