In all the excitement of talking about this set I forgot my mini ranking at the end 🤦♂️ I’ll also throw in The Eternal Idol for shits and giggles, here it is lol. 1. Headless Cross 2. TYR 3. The Eternal Idol 4. Cross Purposes 5. Forbidden
I must say the new remixed albums sound much better and as a long time Black Sabbath fan I think looking back over history it is clear to me that Tony Martin is the best singer the band ever had because of his voice and range he is the only one who could sing any song on all 19 albums.
Even though RJD is my favourite Black Sabbath singer I got to agree with you, Tony’s voice is phenomenal! Also not fault to him he had big shoes to fill, competing with the antics of Ozzy or the larger than life stage presence of RJD, it couldn’t have been easy! I’m just happy this era of the band is finally getting the recognition it deserves. Thanks for watching and commenting 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
Great albums, the Tony Martin era is what I usually go to right now when I want my Sabbath fix. The 80s-90s era Sabbath finally seem to be getting some recognition. These albums were stolen from me about 20 years ago, so glad to have them back in my collection. Thank you sir!🤘
In 2010 they put out 2cd deluxe editions of seventh star and eternal idol. The eternal idol second disc is the Ray Gillen demos. Well glad you got your box set been playing mine a lot. Happy Father’s Day 🤘
Been playing this set lots the past week. I went with the CD version, great deal for $45. Forbidden now sounds like a Sabbath album and I kinda enjoy it now. My favorite of the Martin era has always been Headless Cross and this remastering of it makes it sound even more incredible. Now if they can finally do the Born Again remix!
I’d be happy if they did something for Born Again like they did with the Live Evil, include both a remastered & remixed version. That’s a bargain at $45, I’m glad you’re enjoying it! Thanks for watching 🤘 Stay Heavy ~ Darcy
Have seen them on the Cross Purposes Tour in 1994 and the Forbidden Tour in 1996. Great ! Hope they will release their DVD set Cross Purposes Live from London 1994 on Vinyl / CD as well. Its awesome 😊 Greets from Germany
Sabbath was off my radar by the late 80s/early 90s. I picked up this set on CD and it’s awesome! The riffs!and Tony Martins voice is amazing! Shame on me for sleeping on these albums.
I'm sure Tony is working on the Born Again remix still, probably next year I bet. I got the CD box set and Yeah! They sound great, and the Forbidden remix has made an unlistenable record actually good, it's still not their best but now it's no longer the worst. The CD slipcases are already a problem, I've dropped two and lost one disc already(temporarily), the disc just falls out everywhere. Another problem/bonus is three of the discs(HC, CP's and Forbidden) have 1 bonus track each, but None of them have Lyrics! The vinyl got the lyrics and the CD the bonus tracks. Also my Rhino Records copy came with a big dent smashed in the center of the lid! And WHY wasn't Cross Purposes Live not in this set! Seventh Star is a great album, I'd like a remixed And remastered version of that, all I have is my cassette from '86...
This set is so long overdue, I was wondering if it would ever come out. The "Forbidden" remix is awesome! The "Headless Cross" tour book and poster are a great addition. The "Born Again" remix box set is next for new Sabbath releases.
I got the CD version of this. This is the best box set that has come out in awhile. All the albums are great. Let’s hope the sales are good and Iommi and Martin decide to get a band together and do some shows. The CDs sound really good, and the packaging is really good. The CDs come inside Cardboard sleeves but the CDs are inside of a clear paper sleeve similar to what vinyls come in. All around a great box set. If anyone is debating on picking this up, don’t hesitate, and buy it now. This is my favourite box set released this year.
awesome review darcy I just received my vinyl boxset can't wait to listen to it!!! the forbidden re-mix can't wait to hear the new life it has!! ...keep rockin' and keep the metal alive!!!
Hi Darcy!!! so good to see your boxset is finally in your music room.... a really well done reissue and the new mix of Forbidden seems to be the best thing, however if i have to complain it would be much better if they replicate the OG release with a propper inner sheet with the lyrics and credits and the three extra tracks included in the Cd version, but still a cool boxset and worth the money spend. cheers and be well
Great review there Darcy. It does look like a top quality set and yes glad the Martin era is finally getting a bit of recognition by more casual fans. Good talking point about the name of the set, I've never thought about it, I guess with Dehumanizer in the middle of those album and not included it would have been a bit tricky to come up with a name without being too confusing. Just ordered it myself the other day actually. Headless Cross is a top 10 album of all time for me and I do rate the Martin era so it's a no brainer. Been a bit slow with pick-ups this year but thought I'd best get it before the price increases.
The price was indeed pretty good for that one. I enjoy every minute of those records. I´ve seen Sabbath on the "Forbidden" tour in front of 400 - 500 people. In my Video for the boxset I compare the records to some of my OGs. "Born Again" needs a special treatment. I have the unmixed version on LP including the extra track "The Fallen". It´s just a bootleg but it sounds better than the actual album!
Hi Darcy. Over here a few days before the box was supposed to be released it was announced that no vinyl sets would be delivered and only a limited amount of cd sets would be delivered. So i was set to wait for six months, but somehow only two weeks later the vinyl set became available and i bought it. Previously i was familiar only with Headless Cross. I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the albums. They're all good. However since i was much more familiar with The Eternal Idol, i still think it's the best one keeping in mind that i've only listened to the box once. Based on one listen i think i would put Cross Purposes at #1, but the second side isn't quite as good as the first side. The paper at the back of the box is with the bmg logo instead of warner. Pasi
I’m glad to hear you got one! Isn’t it fun to discover great older music at this point in our lives, that always makes me happy. I think The Eternal Idol is great, I hope it gets the Super Deluxe treatment at some point. Always nice to hear from you, I hope things are going your way 🤘 Cheers from Canada
A brilliant box set. The Tony Martin years have been underrated for too long. Im so glad its finally getting the recognition it deserves and is selling well. Headless Cross especially is a top tier album! I own the CD version and the remasters and remix of Forbidden are really good! Bit of a bummer that they dont have lyrics, but it does have a few bonus tracks that are surprisingly strong!
Hey Darcy. I am expecting my box set soon. Already have all of those albums but the Tony Martin freak in me couldn't resist 😂. I have a used TYR cd so an upgrade was necessary. Great review. Happy Fathers' Day 🤘.
Fantastic box set the back slip has bmg on mine im in the UK ordered it late April took a wile to get to me second week of June tracking was thro Europe seems to be difficult to get now pre order was £89 British pounds. Have a great Sunday.
From all early indications it’s looking like a big success, I think it will sell out quickly and prices will rise! Thanks for the info on the BMG & thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers from Planet6Strings
I also think from other unboxing I've seen were people have also said why isn't it the tony Martin years it might be down the the 50/50 split with Tony Martin and the osbournes even tho there was a dio years cd years back.
Thanks for sharing! Couldn’t wait for this! Love both Headless Cross and Cross Purposes records so that was nice to have an official copy! The Forbidden remix is excellent too. I was kind of bummed about the omission of Eternal Idol or even the Cross Purposes Live piece, but the set is wonderful and sounds fantastic. I got a box set of Sabbath Ozzy era records with a 7” Dirty Women included to the set. It cost me $120 US, but I have yet to see it lower than $250! so I guess I did well lol. It’s all Warner Brothers issue from I believe 2018? They’ve done great with these reissues! I too hope to see the Born Again lp get the Forbidden treatment. That would just be amazing! Thanks again for the video! Take care!!
Saw them on the Headless Cross tour 89 in Copenhagen (with Ian Gillan as a surprise). TYR tour in Copenhagen 90. Cross Purposes tour in London 94. Forbidden tour in Karlshamn Sweden, Lund Sweden and Copenhagen 95.
Great video and run down of the box set!! I did not get it, I only need the last two in the set, hoping they will get an individual release. There was a CD release of Eternal Idol that his the Ray Gillian vocal mixes on disk 2. I think I’m right with you on your mini ranking for these 5
So glad you’re enjoying the killer set.you’ve been wanting this awhile lol. It’s an era I haven’t paid enough attention too, but enough to know TYR is top tier sabbath. I will give the others there due at some point. Glad to hear the remaster on these have enhanced the records instead of destroying them. Enjoy the spins brother and stay well..👊🏻👊🏻
I’m sure this box set will work its way into your collection at some point, i’m sure you have friends that are pretty persistent on trying to changing your mind 🙄
Eddie Van Halen is listed as a co-writer on the song Evil Eye from Cross Purposes, but he is not listed as having played on the album. Supposedly, Tony Martin has a recording of the song with Van Halen on it.
Great review,Darcy. Ive picked up this box set as well. I have to admit, I ignored the Tiny Martain stuff when it came out. So ive been looking forward to this bix set also. Mine says BMG on the sheet that was on the back of the box, with the bar code. 🍻🤘
This is on my radar. I'm going to get the CD set. I'm not familiar with the era but I feel like my music taste has expanded enough to finally appreciate it. Not sure if you have it but I recently picked up the 5CD Samson set Bright Lights. It's really good. I love the first and third albums, I think I like the new alternate mix of Head On more then the original. Plus the first album includes alternate versions of every track with Bruce on vocals. I haven't listened to the Live at Readings CD yet, Bruce's last show with Samson before he headed off and faded into obscurity 😂
Yeah, I’ve often wondered what he went off to do after leaving Samson 🙄 I’m aware of that set, I just haven’t picked it up yet. In regard to the Black Sabbath set I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Let me know what you think if you decide to pick it up 🤘 Take care Greg
I do have the CD version of this box set. The discs sound fantastic, and each one has a plastic sleeve inside the cardboard mini-LP sleeve! That is the first time I’m seeing such a thing.
That’s a nice touch, I think all digi sleeves should come with those! It’s the least they could do for cheeping on a actual tray lol. Thanks for watching 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
Great video! I bought the cd version, and the only two complaints I have are that there are no lyrics in the book, and the cd:s comes in mini lp sleeves with mini antistatic sleeves, like they did in the Live Evil cd boxset. It’s ok, but I would rather have them in proper digibooks. Other than that, it’s great quality. Would love to se Born Again, Seventh star, and Eternal Idol in a super deluxe box, with new mix of Born Again, new remasters of the other two, and extra stuff like the Ray Gillan sessions that came with the deluxe verision of Eternal Idol released some years ago. Take care Darcy!🤘
At least they added the cd sleeves, it definitely helps protect them from scratching. Yes sign me up for the Super Deluxe Born Again & The Eternal Idol. Thanks as always my friend 🤘 Cheers Nik
In an recent interview Tony Martin actually said he didn't have the original vinyls himself so was happy this finally came out. Band politics unfortunately
Great video Darcy,,not got this set yet but the CD box is on my list...The deluxe cd versions of Eternal Idol and Seventh Star are worth looking out for...
In the u.k, Amazon listed the cd box set at 99 pounds and the vinyl at 89. First time I’ve ever seen this on a new set.. still just got a cd version from outsourced u.s importer for 50 pounds .weird
Bmp in Uk mate. Only criticism is 3 bonus tracks not on Lp version, many reviews have said could have been maxi 7" or 12" . I bought cd version £80 Uk price ❤
Yeah, you’re right! That would’ve been a nice touch if they would’ve added a 7” with the bonus tracks. What doesn’t BMG have their hand in lol. Thanks for watching 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
@darcysixstringsninelives3493 Yes. Mothers Day in Uk this year was 10th March. My dear Mom is 94 in August. I am her full time carer. She is housebound and has bowel cancer for 4 years now, still smiling and happy, having the best care from me ❤. Love her to bits xxx
Crazy over here the CD boxset is more expensive than the Vinyl box. Good to see they included the book and stuff. Looks good. Hang on so you don't get the 1992 album? I suppose 1989 - 1995 except for 1992 isn't a catchy lol.
One final thing great value for money, go on-line and see the extortionate prices for vinyl and cds of these albums many of the cds are poor copies from Taiwan and Korea .
Hi Darcy, ALL the albums were issued on vinyl originally, Headless Cross & Tyr were issued as picture discs as well, I have them all. The original inner sleeves are at the back of the book, the lyrics sheets, I would have prefered them to have reprinted the inner sleeves and dumped the useless tour program. There's a great interview on the now spinning magazine youtube channel with Tony Martin. It explains a lot (i'm sure he says the box set will always be in print, they just misjudged the demand for it. i'll have to listen to it again). Glad you liked... loved the box set. It sounds great. Another gripe, in the CD box set there's 3 extra tracks, they could have done a 12" EP couldn't they. SO, it looks like if you want those extra tracks you have to get the CD box set. (cloak and dagger, what's the use, loser get's it all are the bonus tracks). Still well pleased with it. Great review me ode
A good boxset. I had to buy it but i already own every Black Sabbath studio album. To me, the not included The Eternal Idol is the best Tony Martin fronted album. But i definitely enjoy these albums. I do find some of the lyrics on these albums a bit cheesy & cliched. My Tony Martin album ranking... 1. The Eternal Idol 2. The Headless Cross 3. Tyr 4. Cross Purposes 5. Forbidden The new remix of Forbidden is definitely much superior to the original mix.
Hope tony martin is getting a good share of money from this, but i have a feeling hes probably not getting as big a cut as sharon is. Hes probably getting peanuts.
I’m afraid you are probably right! I’ve watched quite a few interviews lately with Tony Martin, you can tell he is super proud of this box set & rightfully so! Hope all is good your way 🤘 Cheers Marty
I really hope this LPs will come separately with inner lyrics sheets. Cd box is big disappointment - lyrics is missing, cds are in very cheap carboard sleeves and price are total ridiculous! No dvd/bluray with live footage from that era, videoclips, documentary...omg 😢
I’m sure with BMG’s track record you will see these get released individually, most likely with inners! That’s how they get you 🤬 I hate digi sleeves, so cheap ass!
The Tony Martin hype boxset. Man, what is his singing at many times annoying. It just like a opera singer. And singing and singing. What BS missed in this period was Dio. Cozy did the job very well. Tony have also written better riffs. All the albums are sounding very dated thanks to The Voice of Martin. I am a BS completists but I don’t touch this boxset. It’s just my opinion but I think there are more people out there who thinks the same. Enjoy your box and The Headdddlesss crosssssss, the headless crosssssssss 🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼
I was planning to get the CD boxset but did not bother in the end. It was ridiculously priced in the UK, over twice as much as Americans were able to get it for. It makes no sense to me at all. I’m not paying £100 for four CDs of albums that I already have and a booklet of quotes. The CDs are even in card sleeves as well, they did not bother casing them or putting them in digipaks- joke. I am sure they had to hype it and convince people over the Forbidden remix to get British fans willing to pay such an inflated price. It’s disgraceful that they are ripping off their fans here in the UK with this price point.
In all the excitement of talking about this set I forgot my mini ranking at the end 🤦♂️ I’ll also throw in The Eternal Idol for shits and giggles, here it is lol.
1. Headless Cross
2. TYR
3. The Eternal Idol
4. Cross Purposes
5. Forbidden
He does sound so Dio on cross purposes..Great stuff. You can hear some of it was written on the dehumaniser sessions
Glad to see this underappreciated era of Black Sabbath getting some love, this set is done right.

I think the reason why they didn't make him a ditch back as they were trying to make them like back in the old days when they were vinyl

Happy Fathers Day D'Arcy same day here in Uk
Thank you 🤘 I think it’s Mother’s Day that’s different your way?
@darcysixstringsninelives3493 Yes. Mothers Day in Uk this year was 10th March.
My dear Mom is 94 in August.
I am her full time carer.
She is housebound and has bowel cancer for 4 years now, still smiling and happy, having the best care from me ❤.
Love her to bits xxx
She sounds wonderful and tough as nails 💪 Best wishes to your mom :))
@darcysixstringsninelives3493 Thank you so much for your kind words much appreciated.
Cheers my friend
Crazy over here the CD boxset is more expensive than the Vinyl box. Good to see they included the book and stuff. Looks good. Hang on so you don't get the 1992 album? I suppose 1989 - 1995 except for 1992 isn't a catchy lol.
The book is fantastic, I know you love reading stuff like that! Crazy how prices differ around the world 🤑 Cheers mate
Happy Father’s Day!
Thank you 🤘 Cheers to the Metal dad’s :))
1. The Eternal Idol
2. The Headless Cross
3. Tyr
4. Cross Purposes
5. Forbidden
The new remix of Forbidden is definitely much superior to the original mix.
The best Black Sabbath album with Tony Martin is missing in this box.The Eternal Idol.
Not in mine it isn’t 😂
This is about the IRS album they already did a remastered in the deluxe set of internal Idols back in 2010
This is about the IRS albums not the Eternal Idol record
Hope tony martin is getting a good share of money from this, but i have a feeling hes probably not getting as big a cut as sharon is. Hes probably getting peanuts.
I’m afraid you are probably right! I’ve watched quite a few interviews lately with Tony Martin, you can tell he is super proud of this box set & rightfully so! Hope all is good your way 🤘 Cheers Marty
Will Ozzy is 50% owner of the name so take it from there what he might be getting paid
It's like the black boxer Sabbath box set of the first 8 albums they were just in cardboard like the regular albums were
It's like the black boxer Sabbath box set of the first 8 albums they were just in cardboard like the regular albums were
There is no Super Deluxe edition.
Mine says Super Deluxe Edition right on the hype sticker!
You will see those on individual albums put out
The Tony Martin hype boxset.
Happy father's day Darcy. 🍻🤘
Thank you 🤘
Just seen that KKs Priest & Accept are doing a couple of gigs in Canada in September, (Toronto / Montreal). You going?
I would but there’s only one problem I live about 4000 km from there 😂
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 oh well. perhaps you could make it a holiday. 🤣
