Just managed to make the cup and the ice cubes .unfortunately the animation is showing the ice cubes falling through the side of the cup once .First animation attempt on blender .Happy with the progress
Instead of using the Transparent BSDF with the mix shader, you can fix the issue with the material by recalculating the normals of the glass. It looks heaps better too 1. Select the glass. 2. Go to edit mode 3. Select all 4. Choose Mesh>Normals up the top 3. Recalculate outside

If you don't want to make your domain unnecessarily large to avoid computing unneeded empty space: since your splashes are not very high, you don't have to make the domain that high - it is not necessary to cover the ice cubes completely in their starting position. It does not matter if they start falling from outside the fluid domain.
@@artistsmind The crown splash wasn't my point. In the video he says you have to make sure the domain covers the effector objects, but it is not and so you don't need such a large domain.
I recently tried my first fluid simulation, and it worked nicely. I just wish my computer could handle them better, so I guess I'll have to wait until I can try it. Onto the list of things to try at some point it goes. Still an awesome video! Thank you fir your tutorials.
I am having the same problems as some others here: The liquid is "running out" of the glass... seems like in the video you cut a step from your workflow. One question that arises is: Is the liquid object also a rigid body? Looks great, though!

Maybe one could just take down the resolution divisions in the physics tab>fluid>settings. And rather change viscosity in the viscosity settings in the same module.

for the people who struggles about liquid leaking from sides of the object; pick the little cube on your liquid domain in object mode and make resolution number 64. Thats how i fixed.
if your ice cube doesnt work after you hit cloud, make sure you get out of edit mode back to object mode, then you should see the displacement on your ice cube.
Make sure you reduce the size of the quick liquid to match your glass....don't know if am making sense but that's what i did to contain the liquid on my glass.
Make sure the liquid size is just a little less than the cup....that's what helps me....click on liquid then tab to edit mode then alt + s then make size slight small just a little...hope this helps 🙏
I was just trying to find out how to roll ice cubes with a glass and liquid. I just stuck at the effector part - the water leaks from left and right parts, checked with flip normals then water splashes under the glass into the domain. All scales are applied. Does the effector domain for liquid must touch the liquid object perfectly? -Updare : Effector must be a bit bigger than the liquid object, normals facing to the liquid. Solved!
@@RobertWildlingEffector object is copypaste+scale operation, normals (you can check it by visually from blender documentation - forgot the location) ALt+N to flip normals to the desired direction.

This is a great tutorial, so thanks for taking the time out to teach others (like me) to achieve something similar in such a short space of time :-).... The only problem I have (and absolutely no idea why) is when I go to turn my object (the bit that is supposed to be the whisky in this case) into fluid, and add the physics, my liquid "drops" eveytime, and doesn't retain its original shape (like yours)... I've followed your tutorial precisely, watching many times, but even though I select the same settings, my fluid continues to "drop" to the bottom of the glass, as if effected by gravity... can you shed any light onto this? Like, I may have a setting that I need to activate that I am not aware of maybe? thanks, lee.

guess this is for intermediate users who know blender, A. non of my short cut keys seem to match the ones in this tut, ( E to extrude does nothing on my computer )so i'm left spending ages trying to figure out where the operations are in menu's, B my layout seems to be different so right away I'm not able to get past 1min 11, as i have no 'Add modifier' to the left. (found it under the Spanner tab in the end) i take full responsibility for this as i've been coming over from Maya and so set my theme to Maya...
I don't know what you have done to your default Blender, but E to extrude is a very basic tool that's used in hundreds of tutorials... of course you have to be in Edit Mode in order to extrude some vertex, edge or face, not in Object Mode (because you cannot select parts of the mesh in Object Mode). And the "Add Modifier" menu (to the right, not the left) is of course under the "Spanner" tab (it's called the "Modifiers" tab for that reason when you hover your mouse over it) and that's where he is in the video. But you do realize there are different tabs you can switch between to get different menus? It seems you should probably learn the use of Blender's interface and basic tools before starting fluid simulations as these physics things are not the easiest to begin with.

Why is the origin point of each ice cube altered every time I play the animation? The cubes go in the glass and vibrate a bit and the origin points of the shapes are just swirling around in the glass. And when I reset the animation the origins are in the bottom of the glass still.
When I make a cup, I realize that my lines are not straight, and every time I pull the line up after E, the line changes direction, so how can I make a cup with a smooth sloping line like the teacher did? Thank you very much

Hi, PIXXO. I have done everything as you did, but the cube doesn't fall into the glass like yours. It just stops a couple of centimeters above the glass and keeps shaking in a glitchy manner. Scale is applied, origins are like in your video. Physics, too. When I use the flat plane instead of glass, it falls nicely. But when I extrude the plane and make it hollow (delete the top face), it doesn't get in but also stops above like it's not a hollow object. Any ideas why this would happen? Regards.

its something to do with the collider we make... i deleted taht and just used my original glass and turned that into fluid effector... all works fine. ( i'm guessing the collider we make has issues with the normals or something.
I have tried a simulation and have been trying to make whiskey sim flow from top into a glass. And I'm using the viscosity of water as mentioned in the blender documentation. But it is still looking too thick, something like honey. But I can find how to make it thinner. Can you help out with it as in show how to make it more thinner?
It might be that your Normals are not calculated. I had the situation when I was tried to extrude I could see a very weird form of shape with lots of sharp angles - you need to go into Edit mode - click A to select all vertices and then hit Shift + N so your normals would be recalculated.
why would you change cache folder? It chooses some disposable folder on each operating system by default ...why would you collect those? Do you revisit old renders and use it then?
I'm trying something similar, but I'm having the glass animated to tip over. The fluid seems to seep thru it all around the outsides though, any tip on stopping that?
bruh, the liquid falls off , I don't understand one thing when he makes the first separation with the "p" he keeps the inside part but I get a new part with the inside part plus the extrusion.
If the liquid is falling out, try clicking on the glass(circle .002) and go to physics and enable planar (its under settings of the fluid)

I'm not totally sure but I'm guessing they would just have to be less dense than the liquid.

I had the same issue with converting it to the mesh, but once I have clicked on "Mesh" in Physics and run the simulation twice it finally worked.

may be that's because of a bug in blender, are you using the updated version of blender?

control + zooms in and out for me
He meant + on the numpad if you have a full size keyboard. The key =/+ beside the backspace does the zooming in.

Render the frames to a folder and then open blender video editing (file, new, video editing) and import the frames and save the final video

I made the objects 20 times larger, with scale applied, and now it works.
Go to the physics properties tab, then in the rigid body settings scroll down to sensitivity and reduce the margin.

For some reason my ice cubes don't effect the water despite having the liquid effector on them, so you've got a bigger splash than me XD

I have tried a simulation and have been trying to make whiskey sim flow from top into a glass. And I'm using the viscosity of water as mentioned in the blender documentation. But it is still looking too thick, something like honey. But I can find how to make it thinner. Can you help out with it as in show how to make it more thinner?

It might be that your Normals are not calculated. I had the situation when I was tried to extrude I could see a very weird form of shape with lots of sharp angles - you need to go into Edit mode - click A to select all vertices and then hit Shift + N so your normals would be recalculated.
why would you change cache folder? It chooses some disposable folder on each operating system by default ...why would you collect those? Do you revisit old renders and use it then?

I'm trying something similar, but I'm having the glass animated to tip over. The fluid seems to seep thru it all around the outsides though, any tip on stopping that?
If the liquid is falling out, try clicking on the glass(circle .002) and go to physics and enable planar (its under settings of the fluid)
bruh, the liquid falls off , I don't understand one thing when he makes the first separation with the "p" he keeps the inside part but I get a new part with the inside part plus the extrusion.
