    Actually a simple and authentic life, bypassing the currents of the mainstream and weaving your way through the jungle of modern life is a lot of hard work and not for the faint-hearted. But what a glorious path.

    I always thought simple living was based on literal minimalism with material things. This totally opened me up to how we can clutter our mind, presence, and way of living. We are not machines, why must we live like one. I really want to buy that book! My sunset moment is finding joy in art again, spending time with my family and cuddling my cats. Thank you for the video!

    I've always believed that it's in our nature to live simply and as close to nature as we can. You hit the nail on the head when you said we're hardwired for it. We've not always had all this "stuff" in our lives. Yet as time moves on, more people believe it's always been there, the internet, cellphones, movie theatres, etc etc etc. The more we "progress" the behinder we get! I live in an old, small, rustic A Frame cottage overlooking a small lake. I love it! No matter the weather, the view is pure heaven. I'm surrounded by trees and there is plenty of wildlife here. As a writer I need this. I need the peace, lack of traffic and mass society. As a human I need it even more. Most of my kitchen tools are manual, such as no electric can opener, no air fryer and no instapot. I use a regular pressure cooker because I can use that on an open fire should I lose power. I'm totally set up to live without power here. There is a huge sense of security in that. Should I need to hunt for my food, I can and will. This is the life.

    How often I think this way too, sadly I feel that most folk are identified with the culturally created, thought-based 'selves', and aren't 'aware' of the intrinsic nature that they are and are addicted to the modern culturally based identity! Most folks are lost in yesterday and tomorrow this is the BIG problem and they/we fail to notice the beauty of 'just now'! You are one of many voicing, pointing the way and I 'believe' more ears are open! Thank you.

    Your video, and the whole rewilding concept really spoke to me. I’m 62, a retired trucker, and once wild girl. In 2004, I was in a roll-over accident that really changed my life. I lost touch with who I was. Now, 2 decades later, I am beginning to reawaken, and remember, and yearn for that simplicity and focus again. It’s gonna be a long, hard road to get back there, but I remember who I was (and know I still am her) and I see the path clearly to reach my authentic self again.
    It’s things like this video, and your channel, that help me to stay focused on what is important, and what will serve me best, while flushing the dross out.
    Thank you for a timely reminder of the genuine beauty of being ourselves!

      @@AwakenOurWild I think it shows a real wisdom to be taking the more difficult road and working towards that which is healthy and right for you. It seems that, without fail, those who wait until they’re older to begin to take care of themselves, ALWAYS regret the loss of useable time.
      One thing I’d recommend: making a memory book. I have one that I started decades ago, with the intent of giving it to family on my death, so they could see the authentic me, and remember me as I really was, not as someone might imagine. I have drawn pictures in it, written a couple poems and (super short) stories. I’ve described places I’ve gone, and how I felt about them, I’ve got a page of colors, and my own description of how each color makes me feel. There’s just all sorts of random and various things in there, things that, over the years, have vibed with me in a way that I wanted to record it. When I die, the book will be complete, and it will be something my grandsons can keep as an expression from me to them, of myself.

    Fox & Bear learned a lesson we humans have forgotten. Efficiency is a trap; Complexity is a burden; Possession is a grave. Have you read Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari? He lays out, very clearly, how we humans have entrapped and enfeebled ourselves, beginning with leaving the Hunter-Gathering way of life for farming and animal husbandry, at the same time killing off most of the mega-fauna of all continents except where we first emerged - Africa - because the animals there had time to adapt to our predatory ways before we became dangerous enough to wipe out entire species. We also killed off all the remaining human species on the way to becoming the anti-naturalistic creatures our so-called culture encourages and even demands. Now we seem to want to kill off our own species, or merge it somehow with robotic or bio-engineered analogs, which is the same thing as killing ourselves off. I sometimes wonder if Homo sapiens now has a guilt-induced death wish for all the horrors we've wrought on this planet, our only home in the Universe.

    What lovely synchronicity: I sat down to watch this video right after enjoying one of those sunset moments. 🙂
    I was standing in the center of the grassy hilltop where my wife was teaching a young horse to jump. She rode her horse around and over jumps in every direction, and I was standing in the center, rotating slowly most of the 30 minutes or so. I was watching the sunset in a wonderful setting: on a hilltop way out in the countryside. I could notice how the sunset changed slightly since last time I was facing a given direction. It was a marvelous show, and the young horse was learning quickly!

    Simple doesn't necessarily mean easy as some might think, that's my thought. Simple living to me is self sufficiency, using basic or "old" tools to do so. If I wanted to grow a garden, and wanted to make it easy, there would be an endless amount of stuff to buy and those things would make it easy but not as fulfilling. In every hobby there is endless abouts of things to buy. I have had a lot of nice things, I don't want to be caught up in that any longer. I want a small "farm" where the work is hard but the fulfilment and gratefulness is never ending.

    • @AwakenOurWild
      @AwakenOurWild  5 месяцев назад +1

      I agree it's not attainable for literally everyone to live such a lifestyle, as much as it would be nice for everyone to have that option. As far as returning to a simple life described in the 2nd definition, I think nowadays there is a spectrum of what is in peoples' power to do to live more connected to the earth, and that any effort in that direction can be beneficial. I'm happy to hear the first definition resonated with you! Thanks for your comment! 😊
