You'll have to re calculate the stream range with GB Afterlife out now. Calculate the range of the stream from the Gunner thrower to catch muncher in a wide open road.
Yes that would be AWESOME! At the very least a letter to Dan might give us results. The video of him seeing the refurbished ecto had him describing a few of the pieces.
These are the kinds of questions that keep me up at night. Here's another one I hope you'll look into! What exactly IS the science that makes crossing the streams "bad"?
The explanation in the movie was that it would cause a total protonic reversal. Egon described it as every cell in your body would stop instantly at the speed of light. So, given the size of the explosion when the Ghostbusters did so, the Ghostbusters surviving said explosion, and Egon's explanation about how crossing the streams would cause the gate Gozer opened to close, my headcanon is this: In the Ghostbusters physics, crossing the streams causes atoms to reverse course. This creates an effect of reversing time essentially. However, the actual process of reversing time and the orbit of protons around the nucleus of an atom is so jarring that it causes a nuclear explosion. The explosion destroyed Gozer's temple. The reversal of time caused the gate between worlds to close. The Ghostbusters survived the explosion because they were on Gozer's side of the gate, in the Netherrealm. Reversing their atoms there caused them to be blown back to the living world. It's science so soft you could spread it over a croissant, but it's the best I got!
@@SpockvsEgon The Stylized game for the Wii explains it with a line or two that didn't make the Realistic game--something about a Destructor form's gateway stops Total Protonic Reversal, because the worse effects go through the other side of the gateway, and all our side of it gets is still fairly destructive, but not _as_ destructive--the topmost floors of the Shandor building got destroyed, but without the gateway it would have been the entire building and then some. Elsewhere there's talk of a Stream-Cross Governor. A governor is that spinning thing with two spheres on it on a steam engine, and it controls the rate of pressure. Therefore, when switched on, something inside the wand detects when the streams are crossing, and it dials back the power and intensity of the streams until the end result of Protonic Reversal is a thousandth of its potential (though it's still really painful and inconvenient, and technically a fireable offense). (*NB: The Stylized game is well worth playing just for all the different voice takes and altered lines of dialogue.*)
I think it's infinite range. Considering how often I've missed shots down the streets in the game, the range is infinite until it hits a structure, body, or spook.
I think in order for it to be an infinite range, the stream needs to be constant. When the energy from the proton pack is off, wouldn’t that energy dissipate over time and distance?
@@legofirefighter The laws of entropy say yes, though the range of the proton stream could still be incredibly far. Like an industrial laser, the range at which the proton stream begins to dissipate and lose cohesion could be so far away from the emission source that we'd likely never be able to measure it without some form of interstellar travel to follow its path. For the sake of the stream's path through (and possibly out of) a terrestrial atmosphere, the range is effectively infinite, especially considering there don't seem to be that many ghosts in space... Well, not counting the UAC research base on Mars or the colony world of Reach.
I thought about going into this but I didn't for two reasons. 1) Canon is debatable, despite my love and belief it is either GB3 or GB2.5. And 2) I had no "control" to know what the distance the stream was travel. Clearly in GB1, Egon mentions "shortening the stream" (which I regrettably forgot to include), meaning even if the full-stream is possibly infinite, other, lesser intensities are not, so Egon won't have his face burned off.
that was very interesting. tho i have a question about the volocity of the RTV , what is the top speed of the remote trap vheicel from ghostbusters afterlife?
Maybe you could do a video breaking down the history of ivo shandor? Ive seen very few videos doing so on RUclips. Failing that, what about a video breaking down the effects of the different slime colours.
@@SpaceWizardCosplay Remember: The Celtic festival celebrating the autumnal equinox is pronounced "SAH-win," but the character from the show is "Sam Hain."
I always thought it shoots out kinda like a really powerful garden hose. So it can go down as much as you want it to, because of gravity. However, can’t shoot upwards very far before the stream starts to fall down again.
One thing you didn't mention, the WEIGHT of the stream itself, as mentioned in the proton pack vid. The particles have a weight to them, miniscule I'll admit, but still should effect their effective range. At a horizontal level target, the stream should have less reach than a target below the caster on a vertical level, and even less so on a target a few stories above the caster. So the downward stream might have an even further effective range while shooting down.
Weight is definitely an interesting factor as the wands often "push" the characters. This is probably more a "force" like a rocket thrust but something to be considered.
I imagine the stream, if shot straight up into the sky, would dissipate by the time it entered the vacuum of space or shortly thereafter. Or it could travel for lightyears as it is very similar to a particle beam composed of protons and positive ions.
Another question as a supplement to the proton pack science, how would the venting system from the game work? I mean, we see it kind of open up and steam escape, but how does one "vent" a miniature cyclotron?
I imagine Egon and Ray held the patents for their tech, not saying that it couldn't be mimicked like in the cartoon with Robo-Buster, but I would think it'd be safe to say that by 1989 during GB2 that it's possible that some government programs had sprung up after the awareness of their packs started to grow during their 1984 montage scene.
Is it November yet for the new Ghostbusters movie to come out? Looking forward for this movie. Hopefully it is available to purchase on Blu-ray as well?
Since the proton streams are technically nuclear energy we can use that as a basis for comparison with solar energy. We know for sure the sun can belch out what are called coronal mass ejections that cause the auroras. Our star/sun (a.k.a. Sol) is a nuclear furnace in space essentially. So that is at least 93,000,000 miles. Given that a proton stream is more concentrated nuclear energy it is quite possible it could go farther. Light and solar energy doe disperse so no telling where that point is with a concentrated proton stream. There’s also electrons that old react with the proton stream (possibly the blue electricity we see in stream blast. That could peel of the stream of protons as well. Of course this is not canon this is just speculation based on science theory.
I think it has no range limits as in the Ghostbusters video game which is canon you can fire the proton stream all the way across the New York streets when chasing stay puft so I don't think the stream actually has a limit I think it would keep traveling until either it impacts an object or until the pack overheats and shuts down because although we don't we never see it in the movies I'm sure each proton pack has an emergency shutdown and venting protocol considering it's one big nuclear powered weapon so overheating would be a big worry as it could create a nuclear explosion if it were to overheat to a certain temp so a emergency shutdown and venting protocol is programmed into the pack to immediately shut the pack down and vent it to ensure nothing bad happens
Dont know if you've done this but how did the guys build the containment chamber? How they figured that the spot was a portal to another dimension? Or no matter where the dimension was, their chamber through technology can open a portal? Must take great enginunity to create the chamber.
So there is a scene at the end of the movie when they are shooting at the female form. The proton streams go into the sky. Perhaps that will be a nice clip to use to enhance this video
The video game was considered canon by Aykroyd but GB:A might change that. Based on the physics of the game, it seems like their stream is infinity until it encounters an object.
