The Rookie (Welsh) was even in GB Afterlife. Look carefully at the driver driving the Ecto 1 into the firehouse at the end of the film, when Winston says "I started this company with one employee".
I still personally believe that the events of Ghostbusters: The Video Game still holds together and remains in the time line with Ghostbusters: Afterlife. I also remember seeing connections with the video game. They were minor and very hidden, but they were there, rather they were intentional or not. 1: they mentioned that there hasn’t been a ghost sighting within 30 years, as in 1991, when the game takes place. 1991-2021, the timeline fits. 2: Shandor finds a way to remove himself from his physical body, while preserving it, and because a ghost, and most likely stealing the power from Gozer. 3: Gozer and Shandor. The scene in Afterlife where Gozer rips Shandor in half always makes me think that it’s payback for most likely stealing Gozer’s power to become Class VII entity himself and cause his own apocalypse seen in the end of the game.
Also, Shandor’s appearance (which supposedly coincidental) looked eerily like the game’s depiction. At the end of GB:TVG Ray mentions things will start to slow down which he echos in Afterlife.
@@pixelitchio I think with The Minipuft’s it was more a byproduct of Gozer’s return, it’s influence caused manifestations of the StayPuft form to inadvertently spring into existence, we do see in the videogame that Gozer can form minions out of its Destructor form as seen with the ripped off pieces of StayPuft that come to life and attack you
Great speculation, and hopefully more questions are answered in the next movie slated for a Dec. 20. 2023 release. Also "Class VII" is what you're looking for. 😉
I feel that the connection between The Video Game and Afterlife is still doable in that its kinda like a 'quiet' canon. Most don't know about it because it was so close to GB2/the 1989 event that people just felt it was near the same. After TVG ends Ray does say things are gonna be slower around New York, which results in them having the Rokkie go to another city (in this case its ironic that he does go to Chicago, as that's where Callie's family lives before the events of Afterlife). Business is still 'hot' in that from 1992 to 2000 they probably are still big but have faded more into 'Oh, look, its the Ghostbusters again.' for NYC until the next big thing. Things like the Gunner seat was built to complement the Super Slammer for on the go busting. With the RVT being meant for fast pace jobs where using the Slammer would require someone outside to reel in the ghost. By the 2000s you can definitely say business slowed *way* down. By this point money would begin to get a bit tight, so not much in terms of new equipment. The prototype packs would probably either be used for parts or downgraded back to their base versions for the sakes that maintenance would be burning cash. The Automatic Muon Traps were still around in that one was repurposed for the RTV. Egon's trap field does have some backing in that when Ray says "He took all the traps." In that in TVG you do see a lot of traps on the shelves in the basement. Not far fetched in thinking they didn't just build more over time. The containment unit was shut down again on Thanksgiving, if you follow the IDW Year 1 comics, Egon shows that main control panel was blown open and states that even if the unit lost power it wouldn't just explode and would still be fine for a time. The Unit seen in the Game was built as a stronger, bigger unit they used during GB2. And after THAT unit blew up, they used a more simpler unit as the older control panel. Because of the advance in their technology, Egon did probably develop a way to keep the unit going when not used again, as we see at the end of Afterlife. In Afterlife, Ray says that 10 years ago (from 2021) Egon called him about the 'coming storm', so that roughly means that once Egon left the GB went out of business between 2009 to 2011. Of course there are some issues between things like Ecto-1 going from 1a back to 1. But this can easily be seen as the vehicle going back to its normal look in that: it was upgraded in GB2 to look like a mobile advertisement (the message boards, pretty sure without those it would have just been Ecto-1b with new lights and stripes), after that they take off the extras (as you can see in GB2 it is very top heavy) and eventually add the Super Slammer. This can go on to the point tha the RTV replaces the Slammer and they take it off. 1A didn't have a ladder on its rack at all, so with the gunner seat they just added it on the otherside. Vehicle gets one final look over without the caution stripes and you have the Ecto-1 seen in Afterlife. Would say there are plenty of things that don't survive from TVG (like PCOC) or stuff that lines up with the IDW Comics (those you can say are definitely a separate timeline) and that for the Movie Canon the GB stayed in Business between 1989 to the late 2000s, given the IDW series took place up to (I think) 1997 but the latest to date, still another decade to fill.
One problem on how it can’t canon be to Afterlife, in the video game, if you scanned Ivo Shandor’s skull in the Central Park level, it showed in the description that it says that Ivo Shandor was buried in the Central Park Cemetery, in Afterlife, it showed Ivo Shandor coffin with him inside it inside the Gozer summoning hole or whatever it’s called
It's not doable at all... Shandor is the main villein in the game, Gozer plays second fiddle. Yet in afterlife Gozer is the big bad and Shandor gets ripped in two. Before Ivan passed away he tried to make it as clear as he could that the game was no longer canon, and it really can't be made canon.. there's no way for it to.
You obviously haven't played the game. You start out fighting Gozer who is in the form of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man again (because there was some leftover PKE energy left that was given strength by Shandor's mandala nodes), and because of Gozer's second defeat, Shandor decided to take matters into his own hands.
I'm well over a year later, but with the newest film "Frozen Empire" being released I still think they could make the game part of the storyline. Ghostbusting slowed down but that doesn't mean that the Rookie's location didn't exist between the originals/game and the newest movies. They can easily make comics or another video game exploring that idea just like Spirits Unleashed did.
If you take the animated series out of the equation, the whole Ecto conundrum could be explained away by people who are fans of the Ghostbusters getting vanity plates for their own vehicles and naming them with subsequent numbers, since Ecto-1 had already been taken. So either the name Ecto-8 was never taken or the GBs got it before anyone else could have.
Ecto-1B is actually an upgraded Ecto-1A, proven when you go to a back room where you see the Ecto-1A doors, hood & the GB2 sign. But I myself personally say Ghostbusters: The Video Game is canon, taking place between GB2 & Ghostbusters Afterlife.
It feels like there are 2 variant timelines, and they both revolve around Shandors choices 100 years ago. In the movieverse Shandor preserved himself and tried to revive and rule with Gozer, which came to fruition in 2021. But in the gameverse he decided to do a more spirit possession related thing to stay alive but usurped Gozer once the ghostbusters defeated her again in 1991 30 years prior. So by 2021 for the gameverse ghostbusters, probably nothing happened and Egon is probably still alive ;_;
0:43 Ghostbusters Afterlife did not actually ignore the video game. Gary Grooberson says there hasn't been a ghost sighting in 30 years, and in the temple with the apocalypse dates, 2021 is there.

6:50 I actually just spoke with Jesse Sosa, one of the developers who worked on the game, on Discord, and he said that the CGI company digitally removed the Twin Towers from the shots in the opening cutscene because at the time, the Twin Towers were not being included in media set in New York before 2001. He tried to make a case to keep in the Twin Towers because the game is set in November 1991, just under 10 years before September 2001, but they decided against it. It's not clear if 9/11 canonically happened in the Ghostbusters universe, but it's a possibility as Freedom Tower appears in the Afterlife ending and various skyline shots in Frozen Empire.
It would be interesting and funny if Vigo was still trapped in the painting in the firehouse and appeared in the upcoming GhostBusters Firehouse. A little nod and a Easter egg to the videgame I guess.
The events that took place in Ghostbusters leading up to the events of Ghostbusters 2 and in between Ghostbusters the video game which is technically Ghostbusters 3 by default is still canon, which means Ghostbusters Afterlife is Ghostbusters 4 in chronological order. It's really not that hard to figure out, I mean the original Ghostbusters crew pretty much tell you the audience what happened to them afterwards. Ideally struggle life began once there were no ghosts too bust, resulting in the original Ghostbusters crew having to get normal civilian jobs it's heartbreaking upon hearing that they were struggling to get by in life after the Reagan Administration.
I wish this video would have featured my FAVORITE Peter Venkman quote, but I don't remember if it turned up in the Xbox version (I only remember it from the PS2 version): "I never forget a face, especially when it's attached to all that."

It’s all cannon in my head. Along with the Cartoon Series. I really hope they don’t bring back Vigo for a sequel to Afterlife. Plenty of other great ideas to use. Always wondered about the twin towered and 9/11 in the Ghostbusters universe and if any official cannon ever mentions it.
There's a very tiny thing missed...Louis Tully's desk just off pssngr side of Ecto-1. His PC has a note "went home sick" on it & behind the desk the suit (complete with "TULLY" name-patch) & ear protection he wore are hung on the wall behind it. So somewhere in there, Louis came back to the Fire-House & then went back home, as he is still sick (he was ALREADY at home sick when he was possessed by Zu'ul "The Gatekeeper" in GB2, but as he was just an accountant, that "TULLY" suit/ear covers didn't even exist until he went to go join the Gozer finale at the end of the 2nd movie, as he'd only acquired/donned them for the 1st time when he thought the boys needed his help). It's a minor detail, but still larger than an easter-egg~
I have a thought, sure, the containment unit in Afterlife is the same one as the original, (SPOILERS AHEAD FOR AFTERLIFE) But, in the film it is implied that business started to slow down after 1991, so, what if once business started to slow down and there were fewer and fewer ghosts present, the boys in grey replaced the fancy high-tech unit in the video game and swap it out for the original one before they all dispended like a music band. I love both the video game and the movie, it would be a waste of a good game, other games are in fact sequels to films, for example: The Video Game The Thing released in 2002, 20 years after the film of the same name was released, that is in direct canon to the original film, but that's besides the point. I think this would make some sense as in the film Paul Rudd who plays the teacher says that there hasn't been a ghost sighting in 30 years, given the fact that the movie NOW takes place in 2021, I think it would make much more sense, plus it also manages to also include the game in the film just a tiny little bit, but this is just what I think, let me know what you guys think, I would love to hear from you about my theory. Have a very pleasant morning, afternoon, evening, or night everybody.
As a remaster on PS4 and Xbox. If you have an Xbox though, consider the original version from the 360. Not only is it cheaper, but you can still play it online where you play as one of the actual Ghostbusters (instead of the rookie) hunting ghosts with friends.
an easy fix for shandor's skull, could be, it was a relative of his (father maybe) , or he used it to store a part of his spirit, and thats what they fought at the end, could of been part of his spirit, but all in all i just cant give up on the video games story as far as cannon goes, i mean it was the last time all of them were together, even though bill seems like he was tranquilized the whole game, and they had to make up excuses for him not being in the game for long periods of time, like oh he went to get coffee
The voice narration volume is highly imbalanced between cuts especially midway and three-quarters through way through this video. Some of us watch your very good content on big screen TVs and without normalization it is quite jarring to have 4+ decibel variations between cuts. Please attend to this in future videos as it will be appreciated by your viewers. Thank you very much.
It's backwards compatible on Xbox, and is available as a remaster on current and last gen. You absolutely should play it, it feels more like a 3rd movie than anything else available and includes all the actors likeness and voices
@@treystephens6166 yep its available on PS3 and works great but Xbox has peer 2 peer servers so when they shut down the official servers, it still worked online. Plus the Xbox upscales a bit so it runs and looks better than the original does.

I have a question on the timeline ghostbusters the game takes place in 1991 2 years after ghostbusters 2 which means ghostbusters 2 took place from 1989 to the transition to 1990 but ray just so happens to say quote “vigo wants in on the 21st century” when describing why Oscar was kidnapped so that would mean that ghostbusters 2 is actually taking place in 1999 as that would have the transition from the 20th century to the 21st century so can you explain why ray specifically mentions vigo wanting to take over the world in the 21st century on New Year’s Day but the story supposedly takes place from 1989 to 1990 a good 10-11 years before they can get to the 21st century I honestly don’t think it has to do with vigo needing to mature in Oscar’s body I mean he was able to lock ray and egon in the dark room and set it on fire from all the way at the museum so clearly Vigo didn’t need to wait for his new body to age the 10 years it would take to get to the 21st century so what do you think is the actual date of ghostbusters 2 because I don’t understand why ray would specifically mention the 21st century if they were only in 1990 a good 10 years away from the 21st century
Ghostbusters definitely takes places in 1984 and there is a ton of evidence in the film that Ghostbusters 2 takes place in 1989. It could be that Ray believed if Vigo got into power, he would likely be in power for a long time (Vigo was previously one hundred and five years old. He hung in there.) So maybe Ray believed that if he came into power during the 1989/1990 transition, he would certainly be there at the turn of the century and beyond. But we also know Ray isn't great with numbers, he misquoted the passage from Revelations in the first film and in the Real Ghostbusters, math was always Ray's weakest subject. It's also possible Ray, in his excitement, said the 21st century but meant the 20th. You'd probably have to ask Dan himself but that's our guess.
Look at the clothes and technology in Ghostbusters 2. Its the late 80s and not the late 90s. Furthermore the trailer for the film states that it takes place on the eve of the last decade of the 20th century (New Years Eve 1989-1990)
The only one who said it isnt canon is Reitman, who is just a producer/his say doesn't matter whatsoever. Dan Akroyd said it *IS* canon & never retracted that statement. So it very definitely is/that's precisely why it fits - it's supposed to/not an accident~
It's pretty much universally accepted in GB Fandom that those original flight suits in the 1984 movie were actually a shade of khaki brown (despite Casey Kasem calling them "the boys in gray"). Other than that little nitpick, fantastic video. I disliked the 2016 remake and I was kind of disappointed in AFTERLIFE. I still think the video game is the best choice for the 3rd Legacy movie. Or hell, even the Real Ghostbusters cartoon universe.
There’s two words: Cannon (2 n’s) which is a large artillery weapon Canon (1 n) which is “a collection or list of sacred books accepted as genuine.” In the case of fandoms, it is media (movies, shows, comics, books) that are officially accepted as “the authoritative story”. So if the next Ghostbuster movie contradicts the video game, it isn’t a plot hole, the video game just isn’t canon anymore.
@@ChannelingSpirits why couldn't they make a new word or just say true that this is true to the original story I don't get it good thing they didn't use the word bath that would have got confusing people would have been like no it's bath or is it the real bath so crazy
Also Saints are canonized...as in being officially added to the list (this used to always mess me up as a kid until it got explained, lol - been there)~
Reitman later claimed it no longer is. But his say doesn't matter. At *ALL* - he's just a producer/studio stooge... So really, your point still stands/well made. The game 100% IS canon because Akroyd said so/Ghostbusters is his & Ramis' creation.
@joecal3819 *Didn't Reitman said it's not, he is just a producer. Akroyd said it *IS* - he/Ramis wrote & created Ghostbusters. Reitman's say is meaningless, nothing but a studio-stooge~

Always wondered about the twin towered and 9/11 in the Ghostbusters universe and if any official cannon ever mentions it.
you forgot to mention that peck was in one episode of the real ghostbusters as the head of the B.U.F.O. the beauo of unidentified flying organisms.
man it would be cool if Channeling Spirits made a video about Egon and Janine.
It's possible! We have a lot of videos cooking in the oven, maybe even one about the history of Janine.
That damn game is awesome! I like Afterlife but the game's story kick its ass. Its way superior.
I'm with Venkman. four day weekend!
Right? Save the world and take a vacation.
Will you do an after the events of the game? Cause In the comics the rookie is still around and shipped out to chicago
We will definitely do a video exploring what happens after GB2 and during Afterlife. But we may also do one in between GB:TVG and Afterlife.
Oh geez what a burn "Speaking of trash... what happened to Walter Peck", it literally caused me to stifle an "ooooohhhhh!"
now i want smores too
great video....liked and subbed by this ghostbuster
It IS cannon! The third entry. No doubt.
Anyone catch the Star Trek easter egg at 5:05 during the toy commercial?
It would make sense, the high tech equipment would probably be more expensive to upkeep, waste of money they don’t have
Cool!
Look, Dan Ackroid called me to tell me that my copy of the game was available at GameStop. It's F-ing cannon.
U damn right it is
"Speaking of trash, whatever happened to Walter Peck?'
Nice transistion, Heidi.
I heard that he became mayor of New York (See "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire").
Did you also know that Brian Durrell Maury? Was also the flying Scotsman in SpongeBob and also his birthday is Halloween.
Ghostbusters Chronological Order
1. Ghostbusters 1
2. Ghostbusters 2
3. Ghostbusters The Video Game
4. IDW Ghostbusters Comics
5. Ghostbusters Afterlife
Best read in the candlelight of a burning 2016 script while sipping some Crystal Skull vodka~
I think if they were to make an Ecto 6 or 7 it should be a Jeep Wrangler type vehicle for off road use.
But what about -the droid attack on the wookies- Extreme Ghostbusters?
Extreme Ghostbusters is in the RGB universe
@@cyclopstbyeah, but it would still be cool to know what happened
Don't forget the Japanese Ecto
6:37-7:02 Wait...are you telling me that 9/11 never happened in the Ghostbusters universe????
Can you still get this game
Yes.
I can run it on Switch. No multi-player, sadly enough. But the full game runs like a dream.
As a remaster on PS4 and Xbox. If you have an Xbox though, consider the original version from the 360. Not only is it cheaper, but you can still play it online where you play as one of the actual Ghostbusters (instead of the rookie) hunting ghosts with friends.
@@Dtoxz324 I have an Xbox
just get it on pc, a much superior version
Wow so Slimer as a class 5 full roaming vapor was more powerful than Vigo from the painting
They should make an animated movie of Ghostbusters videogame but with better animations
an easy fix for shandor's skull, could be, it was a relative of his (father maybe) , or he used it to store a part of his spirit, and thats what they fought at the end, could of been part of his spirit, but all in all i just cant give up on the video games story as far as cannon goes, i mean it was the last time all of them were together, even though bill seems like he was tranquilized the whole game, and they had to make up excuses for him not being in the game for long periods of time, like oh he went to get coffee
Did you guys change the narrator? I'm pretty sure there was a version of this with a male narrator.
We updated a few early videos when Afterlife came out. Adam's version is still up, there's a link in the description of the video.
What the he))?? How have I never seen this channel?? Geezus.
I never did play this game. I wish I did.
There’s still time! I highly suggest it.
It's backwards compatible on Xbox, and is available as a remaster on current and last gen. You absolutely should play it, it feels more like a 3rd movie than anything else available and includes all the actors likeness and voices
@@Dtoxz324 was it on PlayStation 3 ❓that console didn’t work very well.
@@treystephens6166 yep its available on PS3 and works great but Xbox has peer 2 peer servers so when they shut down the official servers, it still worked online. Plus the Xbox upscales a bit so it runs and looks better than the original does.
@@treystephens6166 get it on pc
“Speaking of trash what happened to Walter Peck” SHEESH that was brutal 😟
But very deserved.
As far as I'm concerned, "The Real Ghostbusters" is canon.
All the Answer are in the Ghostbuster Comic book i highly recommend it excellent untold story, they fought Gods deity demi gods demons, THE devil lol, they have a whole new set of gear upgraded proton packs and also franchise of other ghostbusters and they do mega team ups against World ending ghosts>...oh And DEAth helpeed ghostbusters to take out this huge boss that the ghostbusters could not deal with even the Maga traps and 100s of ghost trap laid out did nothing. also another importance in the comic book its shows different dimesions of ghost busters thereofore you will see the 2016 all women ghostbusters in it lol, interesting they are better then the actual 2016 film.
Wait if the World Trade Center isn’t there
Did 911 never happen in the Ghostbusters universe
Does this technically mean that there was no 9/11 in the Ghostbusters universe?
Missed opportunity by not titling your RUclips channel The Spirit Channel.
Wait the cartoon the real ghostbusters is cannon to the films? Not just the films are cannon to it.
Is this video game now non Canon due to Ghostbusters afterlife?
It will always be canon to me. Nobody can say otherwise. Plus the timelines match as well.
Or hell, even the Real Ghostbusters cartoon universe.
between 1 & 3 ...2 lol
how come if something is true it is referred to as Canon ? a gun?
There’s two words:
Cannon (2 n’s) which is a large artillery weapon
Canon (1 n) which is “a collection or list of sacred books accepted as genuine.” In the case of fandoms, it is media (movies, shows, comics, books) that are officially accepted as “the authoritative story”.
Also Saints are canonized...as in being officially added to the list
(this used to always mess me up as a kid until it got explained, lol - been there)~
Legit thought they fired Saint Peter off to man the gates like a circus performer, not even kidding
bruh yeah
Literally Dan said the game is canon to the story and was gonna be a third film but it never happened so do your research a bit more next time
Reitman later claimed it no longer is. But his say doesn't matter. At *ALL* - he's just a producer/studio stooge...
So really, your point still stands/well made.
The game 100% IS canon because Akroyd said so/Ghostbusters is his & Ramis' creation.
Sad they decanonized the game
They didn’t
@@spanky-_-1776 did*
@joecal3819
*Didn't
Reitman said it's not, he is just a producer.
Akroyd said it *IS* - he/Ramis wrote & created Ghostbusters.
Reitman's say is meaningless, nothing but a studio-stooge~
It no longer matters because the game is no longer canon.. Ivan stated it wasn't canon any longer, and his son pretty much says the same thing.
Ivan had no say in weather the game is canon or not. Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis wrote the game
Precisely.
And Akroyd said it *IS* canon, so there you go/it's canon~
I will say Alyssa Milano was bad casting
I beg the differ
