That would also mean that when Anakin first became at Padawan at 9 years old, Baylan would have been still a Padawan at 15, making it very likely they knew one another. All of the post-Order-66 series have broached upon this dynamic. There would be no need to issue instructions as self-preservation is inherent in any sentient creature. Simply, star wars 1-9 are the story of the path of palpatine to reach immortality, from a third person narrative perspective, mostly skywalkers. You have 1-3, were he announce his goals to annakin, and aims his "new body", we have 4-6, were he tries to get the alternative body, who withstand the ritual (Luke), and we have 7-9, were he aims a skywalker, switch to his own kind, and finally gets his immortality, when Rey do not deactivate here light saber like luke did, and finalize the ritual to immortality, and give her body to palpatine. I feel like Baylan was once a behind the scenes Jedi Taskmaster. He served a respectable career as a jedi Knight giving his inferiors different objectives or tasks to fulfill while reporting his results or findings to his superiors. That could explain why he talks like he knew prominent characters as well as Ashoka herself yet remained obscure to her until now. She simply became Anakin's Padawan and didn't have to answer to Baylan for tasking because she took her tasks from her Jedi Master. That could also explain how Baylan is still even alive. If he was the Taskmaster for upcoming jedi padawan & knights alike, his knowledge of survival skills would be incredibly high. He could've survived order 66 on those skills and a little luck.
Well since there are always are some younger fans around a little correction: Jorus has been killed before the clone wars during the Outbound Flight Project. Joruus has been a clone commisioned by Palpatine as a failsafe for his Wayland Vault.
It occurred to me that Baylon intends to destroy/incapacitate Thrawn. That he doesn't believe Ahsoka is capable or trustworthy enough to help. Go back and rewatch his scenes. He believes that he's the only one capable of pulling off whatever he has planned.
I don't necessarily think Baylan really knew Anakin. Perhaps in passing, more acquaintances than friends. If we assume that Baylan is the same age as the actor, then Baylan was 6 or so years older than Anakin and unlikely to be anything more than just an acquaintance. Consider the fact that his line in the show wasn't that he personally knew Anakin, but that "everyone in the Order knew Anakin Skywalker", as in everyone knew OF him. Which, of course they did, he was the Chosen One and the apprentice of Obi-Wan Kenobi. As for how Baylan knew that Anakin had become Vader-some sort of prescience perhaps. Maybe Baylan saw what Anakin would become and left the Jedi, thereby avoiding being slaughtered in the temple like so many others. IN any case, I can't wait to find out. Loving this show.
And why has he waited so long to reveal himself? It's clear he's very strong in the force why didn't he come and challenge? Darth Vader very interesting
Baylan dueling Vader would be really cool. He's one of the few characters I could except not getting utterly curbstomped by Vader. I mean he shouldn't be able to best him but he should atleast struggle against him a lot more than pretty much anyone aside of folks like Obi-Wan
Honestly is very simple i believe. He said to his apprendice that he watch his world burn when he was her age. Which means he was present at the Jedi Temple when Anakin Attacked. Which means he saw Dark Anakin slaughter the jedis. And also i am pretty sure he heard the clones referring to Anakin as Lord Vader. So in that way he knew all long who was the man behind that dark mask all the time.
Ray Stevenson in my mind is one of the best actors I’ve seen in Star Wars so far in my opinion, it’s such a shame that he died before he baca me big star in my opinion, imagine how great the series would have been with him in it further, cool
Amazing how in time we saw lots of references that Ahsoka can connect with animals and memories from the past to explain how she could do to space whales so easy :D...even the detail of near death experience to lastly give her the understanding of the force for a power up :D
A lot of this story is based off of the legends stories, and IIRC there was a threat from outside of known space, that Thrawn is unique suited to fight. Mayhaps Baylon see a better future with him, then without him.
The chance Baylan learned the identity of Darth Vader's by probing his mind via the force is ZERO. To do this he would have to break Darth Vader's force guard, which he would never have been able to do. Using force precognition may have been one method he found out about Anakin. Once the veil of the dark side dropped, his force precognition picked it up; especially if he turned away from the Jedi Order just prior to Order 66. The precognition would allow him to know more than just the fact the event was about to occur, adding details others such as Darth Maul and even Ahsoka would not have picked up. Even though they felt it about to occur/occurring. Because Thrawn knew who Darth Vader was, he likely let his suspicion known to a few close to him. Once Thrawn disappeared, those who knew of Thrawn's suspicion would likely have shared it with others. Baylan likely probed the mind of someone who learned, and then meditated through the Force for details to confirm.
Ray Stephenson has played this character so well. I want to see his character develop more but at the same time it’s a hell of a challenge to recast … regardless it’s been a great season 1 so far !!
It's going to be a tough act to follow for any actor who steps into Ray Stevenson's shoes. Hopefully they can capture the magic he exuded in his performance! If there is a Vader/Baylan duel, I hope it happens in either the jedi temple (and he gets pulled back through by Ahsoka), or with Anakin in the World Between Worlds.
I think it’s a little bit more simple than that from the way he talks about seeing the Jedi temple guard. He could’ve just been there, witnessing Anakin become Darth Vader killing everyone at the temple.
@@goaway152 no he didn’t really. Just straight up say “Here’s the thing. We need this, to do this. And things will be better”. Granted there may still be disagreements after but at least it’s said. All Baylan did was say “you’re in my way and this is necessary” (paraphrasing).
Yellow is the saber colour of temple gaurdians. Many guardians fought in the clone wars. Guardians are natural fighters. I guess orange means he can use the fighting style of Mace Windu. Like the purple Sabre, the orange saber will still be that of a Jedi. If he can use Mace Windu's technique, then Vader and other Sith wouldn't stand a chance against him. Windu's technique feeds off the energy of his opponent and particularly feeds off of anger and hatred. This is why Windu was able to overpower Palpatine.
I disagree. It’s clear Baylan is a master of foresight, like Yoda. Maybe not to the same power as Yoda of course. So it’s very very likely he felt and heard the echoes of Anakin’s turn in the force itself during Order 66. Like even Ahsoka and Maul did. Yoda didn’t have to look at the security hologram to know it was Anakin. I doubt they ever dueled though, cause he fights kinda like Vader. And Vader would have killed him in my opinion. I think Baylan was likely off world, survived the clones turning on him and knew then and there he had to go into exile.
If we assume that he he can in fact read minds, the idea of him trying to reach to world between worlds isn't so far fetched. He would know about it from Anakin/Vader and Ahsoka and reaching it could make him a "god". In this world he can see every point in time past, future and present and the same way Ezra interacted with it and safed Ahsoka, he could use his force powers to basically probe every jedis and siths mind, gathering more and more abilities. This could also explain his lightsaber color it's orange because it's a mixture of lightside (jedi training) an dark side (probing vader and learning force choke).

Ray Stevensons portrayal of The Punisher is so underrated
It is possible that Ben Kenobi warned other Jedi when he sent the stay away message at the destroyed temple in the third prequel.
A Baylan Vader face off would be FRICKIN EPIC, and unexpected.
RIP, Going to be interesting to see how Baylan is gonna go back in time. Wink Wink
He knows because he's not on the high ground...
*HE IS THE HIGH GROUND*
And why has he waited so long to reveal himself? It's clear he's very strong in the force why didn't he come and challenge? Darth Vader very interesting
Watch it'll be that They were lovers 😂😂😂
Ahsoka is neutral good and Baylan is neutral evil. That's why their interaction is so cool!
This may have already been asked… are you wanting to see Darth Vader and Baylon Skoll duel? Like a time jump in the past? Yeah, that would be cool.
He read the dvd insert
Amazing how in time we saw lots of references that Ahsoka can connect with animals and memories from the past to explain how she could do to space whales so easy :D...even the detail of near death experience to lastly give her the understanding of the force for a power up :D
A lot of this story is based off of the legends stories, and IIRC there was a threat from outside of known space, that Thrawn is unique suited to fight. Mayhaps Baylon see a better future with him, then without him.
The force, always there when an explanation is needed when the writers can’t think of anything else.
Rip ray Stevenson 😢
Baylan likely probed the mind of someone who learned, and then meditated through the Force for details to confirm.
or he could have linked up with Ben at some point during the Empire years and found out through him.
I think Baylon was at the Jedi Temple during Order 66 and he either fought or saw Anakin.
Ray Stephenson has played this character so well. I want to see his character develop more but at the same time it’s a hell of a challenge to recast … regardless it’s been a great season 1 so far !!
He cares about his fellow jedi they where taught to see each other as family maybe he will help save ezra
*Baylan v Vader* feels like some “heavyweight wrestling match”. I mean literal “weight” terms. Both are kinda big “built”.
Hope we get a flashback scene in the Ahsoka series giving ya nuggets of Batman’s history and paints the picture of his encounter(s) with Anakin
They want to bring Legend characters back to life starkiller's looking for a major comeback❤
RIP : George Raymond Stevenson (25 May 1964 - 21 May 2023) was a Northern-Irish actor.
RIP Ray Stevenson.
Good character, hope they recast him if he survives the season
Titus Pulo finally getting the power he deserves after the egyptian debacle.
I think it’s a little bit more simple than that from the way he talks about seeing the Jedi temple guard. He could’ve just been there, witnessing Anakin become Darth Vader killing everyone at the temple.
Everything would have been avoided if he just communicated to Ahsoka. Communicate y’all. 😭
he tried... Asoka has
never been anything but a wanderer and she fails to learn from mistakes over and over again.
@@goaway152 no he didn’t really. Just straight up say “Here’s the thing. We need this, to do this. And things will be better”. Granted there may still be disagreements after but at least it’s said.
All Baylan did was say “you’re in my way and this is necessary” (paraphrasing).
Hypothesis: Baylan seeks the Zeffo and wishes to create a new order with knowledge of all force sensitive children in the galaxy.
I feel Baylon is the perfect jedi for a cross guard lightsaber.
Good stuff. I'm sure baylon doesn't know anakin is waiting for him
Uh there seems to be the factor of How Powerful one would have to be to Probe someone as Powerful as Darth Vader
if its early vader, his mind was fractured and vulnerable. i dont imagine itt would be that difficult
@fabian4809 and if it was Vader 2 years Before a New Hope like Vader Before he Dueled Asoka on Malachore
RIP Ray Stevenson. He is awesome as Baylan Skoll.
Ashoka is amazing so far.
Finally we get some good writing.
Awesome video, great insight!
Right on! Thanks for sharing!
"Baylon" lmao
I doubt he could prob the mind of Vader he is way to powerful for him to be able to do anything that.
