Beach Fishing- Try THIS to Catch BIGGER Fish! (Fish Finder Rig Tutorial)

- Beach fishing can be simple, but simple doesn't mean easy! Learn one of my favorite beach fishing rigs to catch big fish. The fish finder rig works really well to cast bigger baits, and hook bigger fish. Small hooks work well to catch a variety of fish, however bigger bait and bigger hooks filter out the small fish and allow you to target bigger fish. Its all up to you, give this method a try and let me know your results!

Incredible video! You’re a 100% right your catch all and sure catch rigs do catch everything. Bought some last winter and got everything from black tip, puffers, rays, you name it. Great rigs
Thanks so much man! I’m happy they worked out so well for you. I use them almost every time for all My videos!
@@HeySkipper I’ve learnt so much from your videos. Hate to say it but after 1 winter of surf fishing it’s ruined freshwater fishing for me 😀
Prior to my first saltwater fishing trip, I watched all of your surf videos and tutorials on how to make some basic rigs. I was able to catch multiple juvenile sharks and other species in the Gulf coast. It was so much fun, thank you both for the great products and content!
🤣🤣Man spanked the bonnet shark on the way out
From 30+ years of experience of fishing for stripers & blues off the beach with a fish finder rig, the last knot to use on the hook is a snell knot. Toothy critters, especially blue fish, will climb the shank & cut into that snell in a heartbeat. Plus the fact that a snell knot does not look natural or let the bait swim (live) or drift (chunks) freely. Clinch knot is the way to go with a leader to hook. Also, the whole purpose of a fish finder rig is to let the fish run without resistance to the weight. The slider/weight holder should be on the main line, not the leader that minimalizes the length of slide. Lastly, before putting on the weight slider, a bead should be placed between the slider and last knot to prevent damage to that knot. The advantage to this way of doing it, is a shorter bight leader which improves the casting distance, it basically reduces the "helicopter affect" on the cast. Plus it gives the fish a greater amount of running time before feeling the resistance of the weight, especially if you fish with a double drag, bait running function reel (which should ALWAYS be used when deadsticking).
Screenshot. Good info
I agree with everything you said except with the snell knot. When using circle hooks for chunking the snell knot is the best knot to use.
If so that’s good news for me, I don’t know how to do a snell knot 🤣
Definitely trying this method this summer for stripers
17:15 So cool of you to give him back his lunch! Awesome catch and great fishing! Thanks for the videos and all the amazing tips. I fish up here in New England off the cliffs and the knowledge you share definitely helps me with my tackle setups!
I learnt so much from you man from making my own rigs to actual fishing the right way thanks 🙏
Sweet! I cast a lot of sinkers and powder coat them. I use slip style egg sinkers tied with a foot of line with a plastic BB and swivel on each end. I normally use a circle hook with it. By the time the fish grabs and runs the hook sets it’s self.
That’s a good idea too!
You guys are blessed! Thanks
One crazy fishing session. Love when the bite is on and multiple rods get action. 👍
I need to get out to the surf and chill fish more often. Usually use a three way with a sinker but I need to give this rig a try.
Bonnet heads taste great. Caught a 22 pounder and I have one piece left, so good.
One thing I’d change is you wanna put a little plastic ball on your main line below the sliding swivel to protect the knot of your hook line from that swivel sliding up and down the line
Bonnetheads are mainly bottom feeders like their big cousins are. They'll take stingrays, flounder, crabs, etc.
Linda jornada de pesca impresionante los tiburones. Saludos desde Gesell Juanma 🐟🎣
Bro love the way you did this, thank you for the tips Great video
That's one of best fish finder rigs I use
Is it me or does the video picture quality is looking better than before 👍
the amount of sharks you caught has me terrified of swimming in the ocean :O
Good job Skipper!
Dude, I thought you knew better. When your ocean fishing, you take every thing :) I miss it. You are a lucky man.
Haha, no I put a lot back believe it or not, it’s important to take what you need and no more.
Recreational fishing isn't going to cause any lasting damage , it's exaggerated ,I've worked in commercial fishing and you should see the thousands of dead bycatch we threw back in the ocean every season
Bonnet heads love crustaceans.. i have caught them with shrimp and small crabs in south florida
I can called that fishing spot on that seashores as Shark's Beach. It was home place for sharks. But sharks have an important role in balancing the ocean's eco-system. Guys you have a passion, love ❤and care for the fishes like sharks that after you caught them you release them to their natural habitat. Good works and nice hobby on recreational and fishing sports! 😊😊😊👍👍👍
Good job 🎣🎣🎣
Wow that is amazing fishing adventure brothers enjoy and take care always ❤️❤️❤️😍
Thanks for sharing! Great video! Where are you fishing? Thanks Joe
Bro fish finder rig with pyramid sinker is my favorite catching alot of big snapper in very strong current NZ Good luck 👍
I LIKE THAT FIRST RIG WITH THE CRAB, I WILL USE IT FROM NOW ON
Love your videos!
Thanks!
Hey skipper I love your video from San Diego CA. Chula Vista,
Amazing
Love your videos brandon
I learned how to do a Sliding weight rig, way back in 84, when I was pier fishing the piers in Southern CA, and using a conventional reel. As for the High Low rig, you taught me how to make those. And I use them even for Trout. But this summer has not been good for fishing. Either too hot or raining. Have fun and Tight Lines.
Happy to have taught you that. This summer has been Ssoooooo hot tho. I think it might have to do with that
Did you do any shark fishing?
@@7ThrillFishing Yep, using a Newll 454 conventional reel, on a 5.5 foot rod. 40 pound test and steel leader. I did catch a bit 150 pound bat ray off the pier at Ocean Side CA. It was a monster. I still have the stinger. It was very tasty.
@@longrider42 nice! I’m about 3-4hrs north of LA. Just got back into shark fishing from the pier & no luck on anything big. Just 3 dog sharks this weekend. I’m using a Carolina rig with a wire leader w/ 7/0 circle hook. any tips?
@@7ThrillFishing What type or reel and rod are you using, oh and line weight? I used a sliding rig. I would cast the line out, using a big sinker. Then on a steel leader with hook and snap swivel, I would bait up with some fresh mackerel, attach the now baited hook and leader to the main line, and let it slide down the line. That way is passes through all layers. That's the rig I caught the ray on. But fresh mackerel is your best bet. Or maybe a piece of bloody beef liver. Just make sure it smells and bleeds.
Awesome sauce!!!
really been liking your videos
Thanks so much!
muy buena pesca, felicitaciones y saludos desde uruguay
Gracias!
Dude it looks like you were in a casting for Jaws the begining jajajajaja. Nice fishing day!!
I love your videos and I’m jealous lol
Graet bro
that hammerhead is a sick catch.
Love all your videos. I’m now looking into getting a surf rod and reel but I need your help, can u possibly do a review or something on a rover reel from kastking? I haven’t found much help besides reviews on those for freshwater n catfish.
wow very nice video💝💝💝💝
Nice
I think that screaming was Brandon's mating call to the fish. 😂
Those Bonnetheads are the Texas versions of the NJ and NY Dogfish! At least we can eat the Dogfish. Lol! No, I wouldn't swim where you are or New Jersey in the middle of summer. Happiness on the water and safe travels to your next adventure!
You can eat bonnet heads too believe it or not. Supposedly they are delicious. I prefer not to eat shark, but I might have to try it one day. I hear such great reviews.
Your my idol your a good fisherman
Thank you!
Great video THANKS , 2 questions ...Have you fished around San Felipe Mexico area ? .....Casting cannons, do you use them ,why or why not ?
Hey skipper upload a video about rigs for handline cuban yoyo fishing

Would like to see you do the rod and reel that you use. Thank you ,new to the sport. Just wondering?
Bonnet Heads and Black Tip. Mmmm
Hi bros, what kind robs and reels you using for, i really love them...
Nice sharks 🦈👍🎣 yes the picture quality is great 👍 come back to Los Angeles California and go Pier fishing at cabrilo Beach Pier in San Pedro California
Bonnet head sharks are delicious!!
Hey Skipper where is it legal to surface fish in California especially Southern California ?? I’m new to this and never did it before. Thanks
Dammm that was a hell of a bite
Yes I would go swimming in those waters but only for you my friend
please answer this question :) What pound mono was that when you caught that shark?
Bonnethead are fantastic eating
In South Africa we call that a Running Trace, fish feels no resistance from the sinker
love it skipper
Here in california we’re only allowed to fish with two poles I believe
Correct.
I must say, catching Shark is a Blast !
What's the difference in putting the weight at the top of the last vs the bottom?
what size of hook did you use on sure catch rig ty
Does this work for rock fishing. I mean fishing from shore where rocks are layed to near harbour
Nice rods
Thanks man! This is our custom-made HeySkipper fishing rod, which will be available soon on our website for sale.
You can check it out here.

Where are you fishing? Put me in the mood to hit the surf! I'm in SE VA, but go to OBX, NC when I can.
Hey mate what are those rod holders your using and did you make them or buy. By the way nice vid.
Can this be used for jetty fishing ?
If that's Florida, you do not want to swim. The water is so warm that smaller bait fish are coming to shore for something to eat bring in the sharks. Wait till October when it cools, then you'll catch some fish.
Hi.. may i know what reel do you use for your 10ft rod?
If you had heavier gear you should put big rigs out....hook a raggy...or something......here in South Africa we got plenty....Good rigs you are using....Thanks for the awesome video....
Hi Skipper please what is the size of the hook you are using ? Wish you all the best
does a 8ft rod able to do beach fishing ?
How long do you wait till you re cast
When do you use thus rig
Just curious what lb main line and what lb leader line? Do you recommend for kind of fishing. Thanks!😊
I do 30 braid with 30 fluro works good
Please educate me. I thought if it has the floats its a pompano rig, if it doesn't have the floats it's a high/low rig. Please let me know. Thanks.
Man hooked two bonnetheqds on my 7ft rod with 20lb line and a dead shrimp. I was going for redfish. They fight hard and are so fun
Wowwww that must have been a crazy fight bro
Looooove redfish
Hey, Where is the best place for surf fishing in Victoria?
I wanna go fishing with this guy atleast once
Haha! I take that as a compliment! Thank you!
@@HeySkipper I’ve been watching your vids for a while bro, and you’ve coke very far!! I enjoy watching your videos at work with coworkers..
would love to be able to fish with you someday.
Hey brendon,
I’m trying to purchase a bait box bundle on your shop, but every time I hit checkout it says my cart is empty?
Standard trace for fishing in South Africa east coast
Hey bro, would love to fish some with you. I live in Virginia so maybe someday we can hook up and do some slaying. Also thank you for your videos there pretty awesome.
Is that new Smyrna beach?
Hey skipper, too bad you don’t know anybody on the Internet who can sell you some better terminal tackle. 😂. Thank you for the content.
My tackle is fantastic, the sharp teeth fish are just notorious for stealing hooks
Good Eating, bonnethead sharks eat mostly a crustacean diet and are not susceptible to mercury build-up in their flesh. Most larger predators with high mercury concentrations that should be avoided are primarily long-lived species whose primary diet is fish. Bonnethead sharks can be some of the best-eating fish, perfect for the grill.
one quick question is there a difference in using mono or fluoro for leader on the carolina rig?
put it this way, in water- mono is 85% visible to the fish eye. fluro is 30% visible. for a leader always use good and more pricey fluro. cheap fluro bends and twist with crinks much easier so you always changing leader line. save and spend on the better quality fluro leaders. there is a reason why some fluros cost more other then just being a great brand.
Where's that spot! Too mañana tiburones.
Is the Bonnet Head good eating?
What's the problem? Sharks taste good too. 😂 That rig works well for Halibut also. They're very sensitive about tension on the line.
Erin, why don't YOU grab a rod or two? I got granddaughters and LOVE to see them catch fish!
🎣 yes Erin, do more fishing yourself, and on video for us to see! 😊 🎣
Hey guys, I came to Fort Lauderdale this next 2 weeks be leaving on sep 10. I really want to go fishing here.
