Beach Fishing- Try THIS to Catch BIGGER Fish! (Fish Finder Rig Tutorial)

  • Beach fishing can be simple, but simple doesn't mean easy! Learn one of my favorite beach fishing rigs to catch big fish. The fish finder rig works really well to cast bigger baits, and hook bigger fish. Small hooks work well to catch a variety of fish, however bigger bait and bigger hooks filter out the small fish and allow you to target bigger fish. Its all up to you, give this method a try and let me know your results!

    From 30+ years of experience of fishing for stripers & blues off the beach with a fish finder rig, the last knot to use on the hook is a snell knot. Toothy critters, especially blue fish, will climb the shank & cut into that snell in a heartbeat. Plus the fact that a snell knot does not look natural or let the bait swim (live) or drift (chunks) freely. Clinch knot is the way to go with a leader to hook. Also, the whole purpose of a fish finder rig is to let the fish run without resistance to the weight. The slider/weight holder should be on the main line, not the leader that minimalizes the length of slide. Lastly, before putting on the weight slider, a bead should be placed between the slider and last knot to prevent damage to that knot. The advantage to this way of doing it, is a shorter bight leader which improves the casting distance, it basically reduces the "helicopter affect" on the cast. Plus it gives the fish a greater amount of running time before feeling the resistance of the weight, especially if you fish with a double drag, bait running function reel (which should ALWAYS be used when deadsticking).

      I agree with everything you said except with the snell knot. When using circle hooks for chunking the snell knot is the best knot to use.

    Sweet! I cast a lot of sinkers and powder coat them. I use slip style egg sinkers tied with a foot of line with a plastic BB and swivel on each end. I normally use a circle hook with it. By the time the fish grabs and runs the hook sets it’s self.

    One thing I’d change is you wanna put a little plastic ball on your main line below the sliding swivel to protect the knot of your hook line from that swivel sliding up and down the line

    I learned how to do a Sliding weight rig, way back in 84, when I was pier fishing the piers in Southern CA, and using a conventional reel. As for the High Low rig, you taught me how to make those. And I use them even for Trout. But this summer has not been good for fishing. Either too hot or raining. Have fun and Tight Lines.

    • @longrider42
      @longrider42 9 месяцев назад

      @@7ThrillFishing What type or reel and rod are you using, oh and line weight? I used a sliding rig. I would cast the line out, using a big sinker. Then on a steel leader with hook and snap swivel, I would bait up with some fresh mackerel, attach the now baited hook and leader to the main line, and let it slide down the line. That way is passes through all layers. That's the rig I caught the ray on. But fresh mackerel is your best bet. Or maybe a piece of bloody beef liver. Just make sure it smells and bleeds.

    Good Eating, bonnethead sharks eat mostly a crustacean diet and are not susceptible to mercury build-up in their flesh. Most larger predators with high mercury concentrations that should be avoided are primarily long-lived species whose primary diet is fish. Bonnethead sharks can be some of the best-eating fish, perfect for the grill.

    one quick question is there a difference in using mono or fluoro for leader on the carolina rig?

    • @Hawaiianskater3
      @Hawaiianskater3 8 месяцев назад +1

      put it this way, in water- mono is 85% visible to the fish eye. fluro is 30% visible. for a leader always use good and more pricey fluro. cheap fluro bends and twist with crinks much easier so you always changing leader line. save and spend on the better quality fluro leaders. there is a reason why some fluros cost more other then just being a great brand.
