Thank you sincerely you have explained so simply that anyone can understand. Its videos like yours that make watching a pleasure, and fishing now much more successful.
At 7:02, you should have showed us how that rig work by rigging a piece of bait as a demo so that we would get a better understanding of how that rig works. I also wonder how are you supposed to set the hook with that small stinger hook since it slides up and down on your line during the hookset. When you set the hook on a fish how are you going to have enough resistance for the hook to penetrate the fish's mouth since that little hook would simply move down the line instead of penetrating the fish's mouth. Wouldn't that small hook simply slide down to the larger hook when you set the hook on a fish? I have trouble visualizing how that little hook is going to help hook a fish.
Hi Grand, thank you for your comment. Look at my video "Best Baits For Beach Fishing" and you will see me putting bait on with a Stinger hook. You use the stinger hook to secure the top part of your bait ( like a keeper hook), it does not run freely up and down the line as it is secured in the bait. It is amazing how many quality fish I have caught on that little Stinger. Often, fish miss the main hook but get trapped by the Stinger. Roger
I remember watching a snapper fishing video from New Zealand and the host showed how to use a stinger or keeper hook and he also said 95% of the fish he catches are on the little hook - I tried it and sure enough he was right ! I run a similar rig with the ganged hooks but i fit a swivel to the top of the gangs and have the sinker running between the hooks and another swivel about 1-1/2 m up the line , i think i got it out of the old Alvey handbook many years ago and the extra swivel seems to help with line twist . I live in England, so it's probably different, but the pulley pennel and sliding ledger are pretty much the only 2 rigs I use anymore. They just seem to work for everything.
@@RogerOsborneFishing The sliding ledger rig is essentially what you use for your whiting rig, but you use a boom instead of a ball weight, the rig works the same though. @@RogerOsborneFishing Thank you Roger, yes I enjoy your content and tips very much. I am a fishing enthusiast for 40 years, fished in about 10 countries. Now enjoying the best fishing in retirement and loves to follow the experiences like yours. Thanks again, Hillary Fernando (Sri Lanka)
Roger you tie the line to the ring on your main hook rather than first putting the line through the turned down eye and wrapping the line around the shank. Doesn't my suggested way end up with a straighter pull of the barbed hook? Otherwise what is the point of the turned down eye?
The stinger hook was very interesting, up until that point i already knew the base ones. I caught a reef shark on light gear with the second one once, surprised it stayed on.
Wondering if you could use a bait release clip with the number 5 Mulloway rig? Similar to a “pulley rig “. Lots of videos on them on RUclips ex England and Wales but find no mention of them in Australia.
Really great methods! I’ve been in the USA for 30 years and love to beach fish. ( originally from the U.K.) You use many different techniques for many of the same fish I fish for. A couple of differences though; one is the use of wire hook lengths. We have many fish with very sharp teeth that can shred mono, Fluor and braid. Often on the east coast we will have a black tip shark attack a hooked fish. Also, the increase use of circle hooks is taking over most set ups. There’s not much use of worms as baits like in the U.K. so long shank hooks don’t get much attention. The other notable addition to beach rigs is the use colored of beads; I’m not sure if this helps hook fish or fishermen in the shops. What’s your opinion of using beads at knots and junctions ?
Hi Todd, thanks for saying hi 👋 We also have some species with sharp teeth. I’m not sure about the beads whether they make a difference or not. Would be good to test with a friend, one fishing with beads and one without. Roger
I have experienced if its bit windy even the star sinker does not stay at one place. It got moved by waves so how come the round sinker stay at one place. What you suggest about keeping your line in one place. As there are other people fishing as well and often lines get tangle with others
Hi Ibrahim, It depends on the application. For Whiting, blood worms would edge out beach worms but you have to put nippers in the mix also as an excellent Whiting bait.. I prefer the 2 hook paternoster rig to the single ball sinker rig. I prefer Mono although braid is better for some applications. Blue Mono.
It's easier to dig for beach worm or digging fish worm is just for some place like mine(Philippines) cuz you just need a coconut shell cut it and half and start digging for beachworm
Hi Dai, I think that the worms you have in the Philippians are probably different to the long beach worms that we get here in Australia. I have caught beach worms here up to 8ft (2.5 meters) long.
Hi Rodger great video as always!! Wondering if you could use a bait release clip with the number 5 Mulloway rig? Similar to a “pulley rig “. Lots of videos on them on RUclips ex England and Wales but find no mention of them in Australia.
great tips! your channel is excellent, hug from Brazil!
Awsum video, extremely well explained! Keep em coming.
Roger
Subscribed at G'day, now let's see what kinda content you have for me you magnificent aussie geezer.
Joey Wever 😂
Thanks mate that was quality will be watching this again
Thanks Michael, all the best with your fishing, Roger
Great information and details
Thanks Roger. Great video
I have experienced if its bit windy even the star sinker does not stay at one place. It got moved by waves so how come the round sinker stay at one place. What you suggest about keeping your line in one place. As there are other people fishing as well and often lines get tangle with others
Great vid again👍awesome content i learned alot thankyou 👌
Thanks Roger buetiful rigs.from samos Greece
thankyou Roger; Q1; Blood worms vs beach worms? Q2; Paternoster vs ball sinker standard sinker/swivel/leader rig? Q3;; Mono vs braid? Q4: (Mono) yellow vs blue? THANKYOU
Blue Mono.
Roger Osborne awesome. Tk you
Another good explanation and presentation👍👏👏👏
It's easier to dig for beach worm or digging fish worm is just for some place like mine(Philippines) cuz you just need a coconut shell cut it and half and start digging for beachworm
Hi Dai, I think that the worms you have in the Philippians are probably different to the long beach worms that we get here in Australia. I have caught beach worms here up to 8ft (2.5 meters) long.
Awesome stuff! So well explained, thank you!
You're very welcome!
You a awesome mentor Rob
Hi Rodger great video as always!! I would find it so helpful if you could do one on essential fishing gear, I’ve just started and find it hard to remember all the essentials, to take with me, what is a good bag, should I take a knife and board, tips on keeping it lite etc Think about beginners and what they need to get started I guess the essential starter pack!! Just a thought, thanks Roget👍
Hi Bryan, Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it. It is a good idea and some other people have mentioned it. I am just about to plan what my next videos should be. I do have a video coming out next week on Tides for Beach Fishing. Roger
Well done! Thank You.
Captain Carpman
Great content ..👌👌👌👍
G’day Rodger, love the videos,.There very informative, concise and well presented.Looking forward to the next one.Just wondering what rods you use and recommend. You probably have a few different types, light, medium , heavy. ?
Hi Peter, I'll get back to you re rods, however generally your rod selection is influenced by the species of fish that you are targeting(size and power of the fish) and the size bait/weight, and distance that you are casting. Roger.
Thanks for the reply. What rods do you personally use? What brand and size are they ??
