    My favorite line in the game is when Wesker announces his master plan to Chris, to which Chris replies by laughing. Wesker then goes : ''Chris? Stop it!'' like a wounded puppy XD

      And while you can't play them, there might be something worth saying about the prototype versions. Although, you can technically play the first prototype as DMC1.

      Those ain't real reflections. The mirror is a copy of the room and there's another Jill model mirroring your moves to give the illusion that there's a mirror. Real mirrors are computationally expensive even today.

  • @Thanatos420
    @Thanatos420 6 лет назад +62

    What I never understood is WHY the game asks you if you want to discard useless keys.
    The prototype clearly shows that an auto-discard mechanic was once a possibility. What further baffles me is that the "do you want to discard the key" option ONLY pops up in the final game after the key has become useless...so it could have just been an auto-process (as shown in the prototype) but for some reason, the auto-discard mechanic became a CHOICE that was programmed in by the developers for the final release.
    This leads me to believe that at one point, there was a door in this game that required ALL of the mansion keys to open it. But then they scrapped the idea, but left in the option to rather scrap or keep useless keys. Rather by mistake, or as a way to add artificial difficulty via inventory clutter.
    (Or, perhaps, inventory clutter was their plan the whole time. And the keys were always meant to be useless upon the prompt popping up. With the prompt being put there to make you question your decisions in an already intense game that requires smart decision making.)
    Either way, this has bugged me for YEARS. And knowing the prototype originally had an auto-discard feature that was intentionally changed to a CHOICE only FURTHER bugs me lol.

    • @lotus-prince
      @lotus-prince  6 лет назад +29

      Yeah, I remember someone posting about how maybe the game was trying to trick them, and holding on to the keys would pay off at the end, but nope - it's just a strange question that shouldn't have to be asked. At least just say "you dropped the key" instead of giving the player a choice - no one would want to hold on to the key after knowing it's useless.

    • @Thanatos420
      @Thanatos420 6 лет назад +25

      Indeed.
      Also, that zombie coming down the stairs from the Japanese demo was pretty cool, too. They should've kept that in the full game. It was actually pretty realistic.
      If I were a zombie, and I heard a door shut directly below me, I would go down and ambush/eat whatever I heard, too lol. I'm surprised they removed that. It was pretty cool.

    • @ablationer
      @ablationer 6 лет назад +5

      Wasn't the fire extinguisher one of those said trick items? Where it'd ask you if you wanted to discard it, but actually keeping it would allow for some sort of secret or bonus later on?

    • @lotus-prince
      @lotus-prince  6 лет назад +7

      In Code Veronica, yeah. I don't remember if it had a use in the beginning of the game, but you could use it to get the magnum much later. I don't remember if it actually asked you to discard it, but it was tempting to drop it off in the bin before the metal detector early on.

    • @ConorOD451
      @ConorOD451 6 лет назад +2

    It's so fascinating to me we had violent content cut from the first RE since I've seen comparisons with one version in Japan (I've read there are different versions based on the age you have to be to purchase) that have several interactions altered to be less gory than the West version for RE 7.
    OMG there's a port for my Saturn?! Oh dear, Chris in the victory screen in Battlemode looks like Jotaro.

    Immediately remembered this video as soon as I started playing the GOG version, I'm happy that we finally have a legit way to play this amazing game on modern PCs! One thing that I found a little odd with the port however is that ink ribbons are no longer needed in Jill's campaign, you can just save at a typewriter as many times as you want. I re-watched the portion of this video about the PC release and I didn't see that being mentioned anywhere, perhaps it's a new feature exclusive to the GOG version?

I found your channel and this video while looking around for Resident Evil videos, definitely thankful I found it, because this was so incredibly well done. I am blown away by level of in depth detail & presentation in this video. I learned a ton of stuff from this video which I was surprised as I thought I knew quite a bit about my favorite series, but, in turn I found out way more from this instead. • @jon-erich9752
      @jon-erich9752 5 лет назад +1

      @man0z I wanted that as well back in the day, but I think what they did with Resident Evil 2 was all for the best. When they remade Resident Evil 1, Resident Evil 4 was only invert early stages of development and the series hadn't been reinvented yet. So Resident Evil 1 remake really was the best Resident Evil game they could have made at the time. It pushed the series forward at least until Resident Evil 4. Likewise, Resident Evil 2 remake is arguably one of the best horror games of all time. If they had simply made an RE1-style remake, it would set the series back and the game would have been dated from day one. That would have been all the more devastating given the comeback the series made with Resident Evil 7.

    • @dogpd3
      @dogpd3 5 лет назад +1

      I like the remake of Resident Evil 1 but I like the original better. I tell you why. The mansion looks like an ordinary mansion. Now the remake looks more like a haunted mansion. Not a big fan of it tbh

    • @jon-erich9752
      @jon-erich9752 5 лет назад +1

      @@dogpd3 The color palette they chose in the remake gave us a more realistic looking mansion. The reason you get the impression of it looking like a haunted mansion has to do with the advanced lighting and shadows as well as the sound of thunder and lightning outside in the background. If you were to look at the Spencer Mansion in the remake during the daytime, it would probably look a bit more ordinary.

  • @CrimsonGear80

    great vid, but there are a few things I would like to point out:
    -The HD remake gives you the option for full analogue controls, so the character moves in the direction you move the stick. You also don't need to hold a button to run using this scheme
    -the original and Dualshock versions of Director's Cut share the same save data. If you ever wanted to move between the two without losing progress
    -The person who supposedly wrote the dualshock version's music was found out to be a complete fraud who had ghostwriters do it for him. He also "wrote" the soundtrack to Onimusha: Warlords and that's the reason why the upcoming HD re-release of that game will have a new soundtrack
    anyway, great vid. keep up the good work!

    • @lotus-prince
      @lotus-prince  6 лет назад +1

      I didn't realize that about the analogue controls at the time. Thanks! And I've NEVER heard about sharing save files between the original and director's cut. That's amazing! I did know about the "deaf" composer of the dual shock version. My god, how embarrassing.

    This was an amazing video!!!
    I remember watching your RE2 comparisons video years ago, and I always wanted you to do the same with other RE games, and now you did!
    This must have taken you a long time to make, and it shows! the quality of this video is just superb. I appreciate all the time and effort that it took you to make it.
    My favourite version is the DS one. As much as I like the PSX version I grew up with, I find the tiny details in the DS to improve the gameplay a lot, like the 180° turn, auto-aim, skipping door sequences, etc.
    Also, one tiny little thing you forgot to mention about the DS one, is that, just like the Director's Cut, it has an easy mode you can access via code; Just push the right button on the d-pad when selecting a game mode until the text turns green!
    Oh and also, I don't know if this counts, but if you play the DS version on an emulator you can actually configure it so that it uses your PC's video card, making the graphics look even better than the original PC version!
    Again, this was a fantastic video. Thank you so much for making it!

      @lotus-prince  6 лет назад

      Oh, this took a very long time to edit. Fortunately, I think it was worth it. :) Also, I had no idea that the DS version had an easy mode - thanks for the information! I was aware of being able to tweak it with the PC's card - that's fantastic. :)
