A sequel's not gonna happen. Not when the previous entry is older than majority of prospective buyers. It has waaaaay too much story baggage for someone to just jump in and the original series is way too aged to just rerelease as remasters for the modern audience. They would need a full, from the ground up remake treatment. And with how freakishly expensive to make single player, story driven games became nowadays - it's a risky proposal to say the least. If that survey did make something move in regards to this franchise, it's 99% gonna be a remake of Blood Omen. But then again I'm not quite sure about the legal situation of that particular game as I remember it was contested between Silicon Knights and Crystal Dynamics back in the day. Which is probably why it never got a rerelease.
Legacy of Kain is one of my favorite franchises. I enjoyed hearing about the backstory behind Kain's legacy! However; I have a few constructive criticisms to help improve future videos. The biggest thing I noticed was that when you listed things, or if you had a long sentence, you spoke really fast and lost some annunciation so that some words meshed together and I had to go back to listen again to understand what you said. I would recommend speaking a little slower when recording. Other than that, I enjoyed the content!
If Embracer Group does anything with this series I think their first move should be a remastered collection of all the games simply titled “The Legacy of Kain”. From there, depending on the sales success of that remaster, try their hands at a full remake of one of the original games in order to learn how to properly develop for the series and understand the necessary tone to capture. If that miraculously succeeds, attempt to continue the story of this grand legacy. I’m thinking like a business in the way I assume things will go with the acquisition. They wanna make money obviously so they’ll wanna test the true potential of the series. Hopefully something new comes from this series but if it’s not reminiscent of what came before, I truly don’t want additional stories. I’ll be satisfied with a remastered port, at least with that the series can live on rather than be forgotten.
Dude this is amazing, thank you! Blood omen was one of the first games I as a kid got really into, luckily my parents back then didn’t know what I was playing. It is still to this day one of my favorite games ever, among Fable, Witcher and Stalker. The sound of a heart beating as you navigate through its menu, the screams of victims I devoured, the Vae Victis! Oh my god, this brings back so many memories.
personally i love Blood Omen 2, has the worst boss fights, but the most interesting character and world designs. I especially love the character designs. And the world itself feels lived in compared to the other games, where almost everywhere you go is just some ruins or castles overrun by monsters.

I was 9 years old when my father bought me a video game magazine called Level. It also contained a game on CD called Soul Reaver. Because I didn't have a PC at the time, every Saturday I would go to my father's office and play on his computer there. I was excited, scared, I remember my hands and feet getting cold and I would start shivering so much that my father would bring me a radiator to warm me up. All the emotions were caused by that game. At the same time, at home, I would translate from the magazine and the game, with a dictionary, passages, lines, explanations, everything related to that game, because English was a foreign language and I was just learning it at school. I would translate everything and write it on paper, I had a book as I wrote. My father loved to watch me play it, even more, he would help me, advise me, guide me, and even press various keys on the keyboard for certain commands during the game. Now, my dad is in a better place, but he definitely smiles when he sees me playing Soul Reaver 1/2 remastered edition.
the camera in defiance was horrible, Soul Reaver 2 was the best but needed boss fights , defiance had the best graphics , not been able to use alternative weapons in defiance annoyed me!

Etc. "Kane is the One" . Greatest vampire story ever told! Then when it comes to watching the movie Interview with the vampire, it's one of the best vampire movies out there!
the legacy of kain will always have a special place in my heart. to start with i should say ive only ever really sat down and played blood omen 2 for gamecube ( absolutely loved it) with that said i have vivid memories of my father playing both soul reavers and defiance. one thing other than the time spent watching my father play was that always captured and enthralled me was the world of nosgoth and how truly ahead of its time. it was in its themes and dialogue that appreciation has only grown over the years and i am able to connect to the medium in more in depth ways and really understanding the nuance with the series. the gothic theme and the Shakespearian dialogue/VA stands alone with very few subsequent games just don't even try to reach with some exceptions over the years. truly a shame the series had deteriorated into obscurity over the years. the new remaster announcement gives me hope we can get more from the series if it does well. but the games will be near and dear to me if not for its ability to stand on its own but to the time spent watching my father play. only thing that concerns me, that im sure im not alone in thinking that the current state of modern gaming will have its way with the beloved IP in ways that can cheapen and defile the series as a whole
Hey thanks for sharing your experience! My dad never played this series but I got the same experience when he played Dark Age of Camelot, an old mmo back in the day, and I'd sit and watch for hours learning about old Camelot lore and the like. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for this comment. I was actually trying to sort the audio for 45 minutes. For me it sounded pretty good, but I will work to make it better next time!
I'm glad that decades later so many people are still making RUclips videos about this game series. Next to Final Fantasy legacy of Kain was the series that kept me gaming into the PlayStation error and beyond period I wish that we could have given up some of these triple AAA games and gun at least one finale game for the series series.
I don't like how Square Enix wanted to make LoK more explicit in Dead Sun and Nosgoth, namely by adding the F-words and Women's bare pectorals. Yes, LoK was rated M, but it's mainly because of very dark themes, bloodshed and gore, while everything else is basically PG-rated. But can we REALLY make another Dark Fantasy game/story with similar contents shown in Legacy of Kain? I guess it wouldn't hurt to try.... :/
Yeh it was poorly done. I dunno why gothic dark themes turned into naked chicks, language and other low grade things lol. I think a game could be made, there is definitely a market, studios just focus on what's working now and want a piece of the pie instead of going on another path
@@GameStudioLore "Adding strong profanity and random sexual scenes makes everything better." Me: "Impressive, every word in that sentence is WRONG." BTW, I REALLY detest that sequel trilogy, equally as bad as DS. -_-
Don't want to compare, but just the cutscenes alone from Blood Omen Legacy of Kain would surpass in light-years Castelevania series from netflix. Legacy of kain is a true story, a story as tragedy as literature from high renaissance evoked feelings. Please ressurect Kain.
back then I was going to comment something about your "fall" stating, since I received a poll from Crystal Dynamics, very extensive (40 minutes), that showed they were interested in bringing the franchise back, and asked if you'd prefer a remaster, a sequel, a movie, etc. Time would prove me right (thankfuly!)
No game has been able to match the dialogue, delivery, and voice acting of Legacy of Kain. This series deserves a revival, but without Amy Hennig it wouldn't be worth it.
the answer is simple: they started working on dark prophecy, then the managers got upset because their greed was not satisfied . As a result many key people left and eventually the game was scrapped. Without a clear direction or a story they tried to do a reboot (Dead Sun) but without proper writers and so on it was not legacy of kain. Their alpha test went poorly and since moobas were all the rage the managers decided to keep just the multiplayer part. As always managers failed to udnerstand what made LOK great was the story. Without a story the moba flopped as the key audience for LOK franchise would have none of that.
I miaa these games so much. On Pc Skyrim has mods that lets you get the Spectral reaver blades, the Soul Reaver's normal blade, and a Raziel full armor set, and I run around The cold bleak land of Skyrim as Raziel hacking stuff apart
The most dramatic part of the Legacy of Kain story, is the story of the development itself. Great work, thank you! The series could be so much more, only if...
I love the moral dilemmas present in this game, if you impale or burn a vampire, and not consume their soul, they will never come back to life for the entirety of the game, whereas if you consume their soul for your own benefit, then they will resurrect eventually. The depth in this game is unbelievable.
I had such an incredible amount of fun in Nosgoth PVP and when it suddenly got shut down it left me completely flabbergasted. That game felt so smooth that literally every single character of both factions was fun to play.
I never knew it existed honesty. It looked pretty cool from some of the gameplay I watched. I wonder if they had pivoted it away from LoK if it would have survived
@@GameStudioLore Vampires could climb buildings assassin's creed style and looking to get the hunters separated and pick them off. The mechanics were insanely unique. Like the one vampire who could fly at all times ,and you had to be good at the flying mechanics where you could gain and lose velocity, and the faster you go the easier it would be to dive into the enemies, pick one hunter off and take them high into the air and drop them to their death. Hunters were also all very different with gadgets that could immobilize vampires and they had to work together to peel suppressing vampires off of the allies. It was honestly just very smooth and polished.
they did a survey about what people want in a new lok game when square enix sold the rights and i've seen an increase of new videos in my feed about how dead lok is when it actually has a spark of hope now.Its like everyone who wanted to make a video about lok being dead is using their last oportunity to release it :D. That Trinity is what immortalized the series not the actual gameplay. Which ironic since I've seen Lok fanboys trashing other games for their gameplay(including in this comment section) but LoK wasn't anything to write home in that department either.
I honestly think it was a good thing Dead Sun never came out the writing and delivery of said writing were generic and bland and the gameplay looked like a watered down soul reaver set in an open world and its not like soul reaver was some complex game which is why i have a problem with it being simplifyed so much also the quality of Nosgoth should've warned people of the qa for this series after defiance
Everything I read and listened to, had him described as an anti hero, even from old silicon Knight interviews. I can see the villain arch, but I was just describing it as they did. Thanks for watching!
Hey no problem. I understand. But usually anti-heroes still follow something along the lines of vigilantism. Kain is a selfish as hell guy hahaha atleast in blood omen in soul reaver he has seen the game he is caught in and starts the anti-hero path.
Turns out that the Hylden (and perhaps even the Ancient Vampires by extension) were originally not part of the narrative envisioned by Amy Hennig but by Blood Omen 2's team due to the lack of communication that they had to alter at the last minute hence why the series narrative got more progressively warped over time with the sequels.
Great video. I hope the original gets a remake. I feel like I’m in the minority but I always enjoyed the original BO the most. I remember watching that intro cut scene so many times.
blood omen 1 was great, decent active gameplay, decent storyline that was indepth, superb voice acting and dialogue. soul reaver and sequels were family friendly recycled versions of the original, with defiance basically going back to its roots in action and gameplay, but lacked spells or storyline... not to mention sooo much retcon. sad what happened
As much as I love what the series became overall.... I HATE that society seems to think Silicone Knights are in the wrong about the them vs Crystal Dynamics owning the LOK IP rights...
Happens a lot with games. Look at Devil May Cry, the team that created it weren't allowed to work on another entry, and didn't even know a sequel was being created right after it released. Just goes to show, if you've got a good idea, keep it to yourself so it doesn't get stolen and someone else in the company gets all the credit.

Everytime i see an legacy of kain related video i watch and like.
hahah thanks for watching!
I keep hearing the soothing voice of Kain narrating everything!
I still remeber playing sould reaver - I was kiddo back then - it was amazing world to sink in.
i ache so much for a LoK follow up.. shame that the Old god and Janos voice actors passed away already
One of the best series in gaming history and yet here we are 20 years since the last legacy of kain game...
Yeah sadly been stuck in gaming purgatory, where it might just stay...hope not
Legacy of Kain is one of my favorite franchises.
I appreciate it! Its mostly me just being nervous recording still. Literally in a room alone but still its hard haha. Thanks for watching!
The studios seem to have answered the series' central question; What if you toss a coin so many times that eventually it lands on it's edge?
At least it ended on a decent note, if not a cliffhanger.
As opposed to just half finished and in the ether forever.
Yeah, ending it with some sort of an "actual" ending left fans with something positive
Embracer group sent out a survey asking about Soul Reaver. Hopefully that leads to something new.
It could! They be testing the waters of the IPs they got
Oh my god, this brings back so many memories.
haha, sneaking in the adult games as kids =) Reminds me of doing that with GTA. and thank you!
This video is exactly why the original blood omen is the absolute greatest game ever for me, the sequels just never felt the same in a way
personally i love Blood Omen 2, has the worst boss fights, but the most interesting character and world designs. I especially love the character designs. And the world itself feels lived in compared to the other games, where almost everywhere you go is just some ruins or castles overrun by monsters.
Indeed, Now they need another one to tie in all the elements! One day... maybe
I loved Blood Omen 2 and played it way more than the others. Wasn't it a what if/alternate reality though?
I'm guessing the remaster announcement brought me to your video, but I'm glad it found me.
=) Thanks for watching!
An overlooked masterpiece 😢
Miss this franchise. The writing and lore was top notch. I replayed all of them over and over. I wish someone would pick it up and reboot it.
Man, I loved this series. I remember my cousin giving me a copy of Blood Omen on Playstation and loving it. I was pretty young so it kind of scared me a bit to play it at the time, which made it very interesting compared to anything else I had at the time.
Your cousin gave a kid Bloom Omen? lol. Thats wild
@@GameStudioLore Legacy of Kalmia: Bloom Omen
That's nothing, though. We played Thrill Kill as kids, among other things, and I was intimidated by Ozzy's 1992 album 'Dehumanizer' cover art - we were tender, but played the good ish.
Guess what? Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 are getting Remasters and are releasing in December of this year (2024). Hopefully, if these sell well, maybe they will consider reviving the franchise. Or at the very least, release Defiance and the other two Blood Omen games in Remaster versions. Fingers crossed 🤞
Youre a legend if you lived through the Legacy Of Kain era 🫡 a true golden age
Sure was - the ten years from 95 to 05 had some massive titles.
This is a good series. I’m glad Soul Reaver 1 & 2 are getting the remaster treatment.
daily remainder the same writer of this series was the writer of tlou1 who was basically forced to leave during TLOU2. thus giving us that terrible sequel.
Thank you for making this video. Top notch stuff man. You deserve way more views.
I appreciate that! Thank you!
Very detailed! Thanks for the memories!
Thanks for watching! You're welcome!
Sad to never see the story complete but I think it was a great ride while it lasted!
maybe uitll come back who knows
One of my favorite games of all time. I’m so glad I held onto this one
If they ever remake these games, i hope the gameplay is Darksiders style.
the camera in defiance was horrible, Soul Reaver 2 was the best but needed boss fights , defiance had the best graphics , not been able to use alternative weapons in defiance annoyed me!
Yeah it was an interesting choice to single out only 1 weapon for that. I guess they wanted to make the reaver the "iconic" weapon
this game will never die, so long as the community thrives.
Raziel is one of my fav characters I have ever played in a game! I would love a Legacy of Raziel game to come out!
Thatd be cool. I think Raziel would get a new game over Kain honestly if they did one
I like the story of kain far more than raziel
One of my favorite characters too & incredibly enough my son's voice sounds like SR1 Raziel.
@@GameStudioLoresadly it's Kain's story as a whole not Raziel, I love that rRaz plays an important part in the role but it's Kainbthat has to go through this whole ordeal and fix everything between lies , deciet, betrayal, life, death, love, traps, fights, souls, past, present, future, revenge, prophecy ....
As an huge LoK fan,it makes me soo happy when i hear news of the series revival and gives me hope. And after,i remember the quality of the revival/remakes of old game franchises that they release today, and gives me the cold shower of today's gaming practices. And without Amy Henning.....still great vid man, thumbs up 👍
content good - sound volume too low in comparison with other channels.
Thank you for this comment. I was actually trying to sort the audio for 45 minutes. For me it sounded pretty good, but I will work to make it better next time!
@@GameStudioLore i can help
Everyday I get my cardio in on the treadmill & watch a gaming documentary. This is definitely on the list, thank you!
Hey that's awesome! Thank you! I'm glad you liked it
I'm glad that decades later so many people are still making RUclips videos about this game series. Next to Final Fantasy legacy of Kain was the series that kept me gaming into the PlayStation error and beyond period I wish that we could have given up some of these triple AAA games and gun at least one finale game for the series series.
Yeah it's sad it didn't get it's big finale. Maybe it will one day 😭 thanks for watching!
Who coming back now that we’re getting a soul reaver remaster
@@GameStudioLore "Adding strong profanity and random sexual scenes makes everything better."
Me: "Impressive, every word in that sentence is WRONG."
BTW, I REALLY detest that sequel trilogy, equally as bad as DS. -_-
@@uncannydanny5682 time stamp when I said that
I’ve got Legacy of Kain deafince for Christmas was like 9 years old and the only thing I remember is the badass cutscene I’m the beginning
Those cutscenes from that series are so good
@@GameStudioLore yes like I remember the music scared me for being so loud lol but the music was so good way ahead of its time
I played Soul Reaver over 20 years ago and I still talk to ppl about it, such a amazing series. It has a special place in my heart!!
Indeed, Its wild how something can have such an impact in our lives, especially video games
Don't want to compare, but just the cutscenes alone from Blood Omen Legacy of Kain would surpass in light-years Castelevania series from netflix. Legacy of kain is a true story, a story as tragedy as literature from high renaissance evoked feelings. Please ressurect Kain.
A netflix show done well wouldbe kinda sick
just scrolling youtube, and find a vid essay on my favorite game series ever, great vid my dood
Ha awesome! Thank you!
back then I was going to comment something about your "fall" stating, since I received a poll from Crystal Dynamics, very extensive (40 minutes), that showed they were interested in bringing the franchise back, and asked if you'd prefer a remaster, a sequel, a movie, etc.
Time would prove me right (thankfuly!)
No game has been able to match the dialogue, delivery, and voice acting of Legacy of Kain. This series deserves a revival, but without Amy Hennig it wouldn't be worth it.
This is true. and sadly I'm not sure thattll happen =(
Great retrospective
Thank you so much!
the answer is simple: they started working on dark prophecy, then the managers got upset because their greed was not satisfied .
Loved these games back in the day. 80s and 90s were great. I miss going to arcades to battle people.
I miaa these games so much.
On Pc Skyrim has mods that lets you get the Spectral reaver blades, the Soul Reaver's normal blade, and a Raziel full armor set, and I run around The cold bleak land of Skyrim as Raziel hacking stuff apart
Hopefully soon we get an actual game
The most dramatic part of the Legacy of Kain story, is the story of the development itself. Great work, thank you! The series could be so much more, only if...
I love the moral dilemmas present in this game, if you impale or burn a vampire, and not consume their soul, they will never come back to life for the entirety of the game, whereas if you consume their soul for your own benefit, then they will resurrect eventually.
The depth in this game is unbelievable.
I love the juxtaposition of "killing innocents was necessary" as you're feeding with a full blood meter. Maybe it's not so necessary. lol
HA! I didn't think anyone would notice that lolol.
In my opinion they ended the series on a damn high note with most lose ends tied up. No more Sequel and spinoffs to mar the name!
Perhaps one day...
Defiance holds up strong to this day. 10/10 game
You mentioned everything but the Hylden in Blood Omen 2 being ripped from another project, Sirens I think it was called.
I must have missed that in my research >< Thank you!
Nice videos! Keep them coming!
thank you!!!
they did a survey about what people want in a new lok game when square enix sold the rights and i've seen an increase of new videos in my feed about how dead lok is when it actually has a spark of hope now.Its like everyone who wanted to make a video about lok being dead is using their last oportunity to release it :D.
The king may return.
That was accidental timing for me lol. I actually had no idea. But hopefully LoK sees a return in some form!
The writing, casting and performances by that cast were amazing in the LoK series. I dare say we won't see a series or even game quite like LoK.
def not. It was on a different level.
Great Vid...I love it
agreed!
Great video. Who could have imagined one year later we would get a remaster of the games?
DAMN ANOTHER BANGER !!!! cant believe this is already out when the tomb raider one just dropped
It like Pinhead from Hellraiser says: "ANGEL TO SOME, DEMON TO OTHERS"
The blood Omen is not an anti-hero. This is the same mistake done when viewing Elric of melniboné. Kain is a villain in blood Omen.
The developers are always the ones who suffer the most 😒
usually is =(
What the game scene shown at 23:57?
If i remember correctly its called Darkwatch
@@GameStudioLore You remember correctly
Turns out that the Hylden (and perhaps even the Ancient Vampires by extension) were originally not part of the narrative envisioned by Amy Hennig but by Blood Omen 2's team due to the lack of communication that they had to alter at the last minute hence why the series narrative got more progressively warped over time with the sequels.
People forget Raziel and Kain were also in that Tomb Raider co ok game. I never finished it or played it much myself though.
Great video. I hope the original gets a remake. I feel like I’m in the minority but I always enjoyed the original BO the most. I remember watching that intro cut scene so many times.
sameeeeeeeeeee
blood omen 1 was great, decent active gameplay, decent storyline that was indepth, superb voice acting and dialogue.
soul reaver and sequels were family friendly recycled versions of the original, with defiance basically going back to its roots in action and gameplay, but lacked spells or storyline... not to mention sooo much retcon.
sad what happened
Indeed! May we one day see the rise of Kain again!
THE BEST DIALOGUE/VOICE ACTING EVER CAPTURED....this is why we cant have nice things
I almost hope there's a remake of the franchise, but I don't trust modern companies to do it justice.

Soul Reaver is one of the most groundbreaking games ever. Semi open world without loading screens, Amazing soundtrack, even better voice acting and one of the coolest characters ever.
Cant wait for the remasters at the end of the year. Really hoping they sell well and in a complete remake with all the bells and whistles the story can be retold as it should have been.
I love this franchise so much it’s such a big part of my childhood I often think and talk about the legacy of kain so much potential it’s a shame
It really did. I still think it does. I know Amy Hennig is still working in game dev. Maybe she will get a call for a final game if the remasters sell well
Thank you for this.
If anythinf when people say Amy Hennig is Soul Reaver or Legacy of Kain. This kinda cements it.
dyack is the director of a spiritual successor to lok called dadhaus sonata but its been in development for so long and is bneing crowdfunded and honestly i would stay away, reeks of scam
