The shaker is just pure awesomeness!! I drive one and everyone notice it. But when you drive one everyday you don't really notice anymore the shaking motion but you should try it when you launch without TCS. When the tire try to grip and slip at this exact moment the shaking motion is like a beast trying to get out of your hood.
Jack1138 haha, it's funny because I was attempting to say boatload but my mouth is useless, so it ended up sounding like "buttload" the first time. Luckily, both words are accurate haha.
Nicely done Jason! It was great hanging out all week at SEMA and I appreciate the shoutout! My video of us in the Jeep will be posted later today. Hopefully we can meet up for another adventure soon!
I love the car reviews, but have you ever thought of doing used or older car reviews? I know a lot of the audience (myself included) aren't in the position to be purchasing a new car. I'd love to hear your thoughts on cars like c5 corvettes, e36's, s30's, and stuff like that.
Dan Giaimo did you not listen to his intro? he's a geek at heart. reviewing cars take a lot of time. he wants to focus on other aspects of the auto motive wolrd. Saab kyle has what you need though.
Engineering Explained Saw u in the CT video !! It's been a week, i think !! Anyway nice video man !! Expect more like this from you. And need more car shots !! Like in Subaruwrxfan. Also why u upload about SEMA this late??
You should've reviewed the MANUAL! It's not as quick in a straight line as that A8, but it's actually more fun to drive. Challenger SP/SRT/HC are That last Pure Modern American Muscle Car in production (Thank God it's still around) ..The GT, & SS are more Sports Cars now. Nothing wrong with either the Challenger/Camaro/Mustang. There is room in the market for all 3
H Mack Canadian Muscle car, yup they are assembled up there in Canada. Many parts are made in Mexico, and some also in Germany. Sad thing is the Honda civic is more of a domestic car than this, since most of it is made here in the States :(
the current challenger platform hard to keep up against another sports car in its class, but i understand the challenger means to be the 'true muscle car' than mustang and camaro
Hey man I really love your videos and totally love how you wrapped that mean Kat of yours the red stripes go absolutely perfect with the white it's funny because I can't stand white
man...i dont even kno your name. But since the 1st time i saw your videos i always thought to myself bout how polite nd conscious you are in your videos! Respects to you bro nd hats off to YOUR channel!!! cheers to the rest
I looked into that when I was car shopping. Heads and cam are only good for 50 hp. Kind of a waste because of the variable timing they use and computer system they are hard to tune. You can only go so big
I feel like you might have assumed it "drives like a boat" due to it's known weight without really testing it on the twisty mountain roads like you normally do. You might have been surprised. It doesn't have that nimble dive-in to corners like a sports car but it has a surprising amount of grip and very little body roll. I have a 2015 SRT with the 275 Pirelli summer tires and adjustable suspension which improves things over the Scat Pack, but it has less body roll than my 2005 Corvette and is almost as much fun in the twisties!
Just so you all know. In a pushrod motor when looking for high rpm strength is a million times more important than weight, especially when it comes to the pushrod and rocker arm.
Best Car Review Yet! But I might be a bit biased. Let me know when you want to come to Alabama and do a car review on driving a Rock Bouncer or a Built RZR. Ever driven anything with rear steer?
I like that you do less car review, because there's so much of them now, but no less talk about the engineering of them. And lot of car reviewer don,t even understand how cars really work. So I like your reviews, there are the best, but yeah, I like math! So more math! But I'm super nerdy too. My favourite channel on youtube is PBS space time, so yeah Math! lol.
Jason, Watching (some of) your videos makes me think you are a real fan of slick, clever engineering. There is nothing clever about this dinosaur. Inefficient engine, with handling like a bus. Call it what it is.
I really thought you were going to explain the shaker and how and if it actually is functional! Can you do a video on a shaker scat pack that does the engineering behind this?
hey Engineering explained! i'm a diesel mechanic student and i asked my teacher for an explenation on variable valve actuator but he said he wasn't sure himself do you think you could make a video about it? thanks!
I'm subscribed to busted knuckle. I like that he responds to almost all of his comments. I think it's awesome to see more than one of u guys in the same videos. been seeing that alot lately. keep the vids coming. the nerdy stuff is awesome also. love to learn the actual formula for things with cars.
+Ceazar Carr haha indeed we did not. We all love each other, but it's challenging to get all of our schedules to align, even when we're in the same city. But you'll see collabs across the channels!
Hey I have a question. Firstly, love your videos, very informational and enjoyable to watch. I am having an alignment problem on my 1991 miata. The alignment shop says that the best they can do it -0.3 camber on passenger side, and -1.3 on the driver. They are unable to get the camber symmetrical (-1.0 both sides) they said something is bent and I have replace my passenger lower control arm, with no success. At this point, I am chasing parts and wasting money. Any insight would be hugely appreciated. Thank you!
garabede1 have you tried the struts? Bent struts can cause strange camber issues like that. Not sure what your suspension setup looks like, but it would be worth looking in to. I've worked on a lot of different cars coming from a collision center and had to change the struts because the factory alignment either didn't allow for enough adjustment, or would adjust at all.
garabede1 If the car has more than 70,000 miles I would put new struts on it. Else you can get camber bolts and correct the alignment without changing the struts. before that I will ask the mechanic to pull the camber bolts out and clean it and the hole and put it back, there is a slight chance of that might fix your problem. Else try the camber bolts. since you don't have a significant amount of camber.
yep, 100% correct. I surprise the hell out of people at local autocross events. Put some good rubber on it, because dodge has no clue what tires to put on cars. Then go rock and roll with the best of them.
I know ee is too nice of a person to say it but I don't think k hr respects wrsfans opinion. the guy just repeats common known things about a car and calls it a review, nothing you really can't learn from a manual of the car. Jason actually brings value to his videos and does it well presented videos.
Hey jason, could you please do a video about which engine configuration would be ideal to achive 1000 hp or i'd better say on which engine would be the least amount of stress and therefore last the longest? For example would a twin turbo viper have less stress on the motor because it doesn't have to rev that high bc of it's displacement or would a twin turbo audi r8 have less stress on the motor bc it can rev higher and doesn't need to produce as much torque as the viper. This question concerns me for a long time i really hope you can answer it for me! Thanks for reading and have a nice day!😃👍🏼
Moritz M well once you start pushing up towards a 1000 HP. It's better to start building the bottom end as well as the heads. Most engines will handle that kind of power once you start swapping out to a lower compression with forged internals. Those Audi V10s can make a ton of power. There's plenty of 1500+ HP V10s out there.
Larger displacement engines will have significantly lower internal pressure to produce larger HP numbers, so if material selection is held constant, larger displacement engines will last longer. That said, it doesn't necessarily mean a small displacement high-boost engine can't last long, just requires clever engineering and proper material selection.
I'd expect torque to break something and high revs to wear something out over time. Go for the middle of both and remember that your transmission also has to support the torque you apply. OTOH remember that large durable diesel engines are much rougher as far as torque than a gas engine would be so it's definitely possible to build tough components, but they get heavy.
alexisthemexican yeah I'm just curious if a high revving medium displacement engine or a normal revving big displacement engine can take a longer beating... And I think that's the Viper because all the parts are moving slower than the ones in the r8. So there is less stress on the camshafts crankshaft pistonrings timingchains crankbearings and so on... But the combustion inside of the r8's v10 isn't required to be as powerful as in the viper's v10 bc the r8 revs higher. That being said the stress on the r8's pistons pistonrings rods and crankshaft isn't that bad either though? AAAHHHH I'm so confused which one would be more reliable doing long highway pulls... -_-
I put summer tires on my R/T and it handles far better than the new Mustangs and better than the 2015 Camaros. So not why they keep saying it handles poorly. It handles great for me with the good tires. It doesn't handle great with the all seasons but none of the sports cars handle great with those shitty summer tires.
Hello! Could you do a video over strut and coil spacers for a suspension lift? Many people are saying that they're bad, some say they're ok as long as they're not over 3 inches. I would love your input! Thank you
At some point would you please do a video on Hemholtz equations? I've been looking into them for intake tunning, but often times it's not explained very well in the various interweb forums.
The 8 speed is the better of the two transmissions. Closer gearing, super responsive shifts, great programming for the shifting when in sport mode. Sure three pedals may make you feel warm and fuzzy, but the guy with the paddles will be in the lead.
Draco Malformed Plenty of people have performance cars which are manual. People buy a 707 hp Challenger with Manual because they love the feel and still destroy the drag strip
Can someone please help me?! Whenever I try to do a a burnout it will smoke the tires for like 2 seconds then "service electronic throttle control" pops up on the dash and the car shuts down, how do I disable this from happening
Hi Engineering Explained, I have a quick question for you about the shaker air intake. I have a 2015 challenger RT Shaker and I've noticed that there's a hole at the bottom of the air box sucking hot engine bay air. I'm sure you saw it also because you must have opened the hood ;) Do you think it could be a good idea to block this hole to make sure that all the air is provided by the shaker intake and not from the engine bay. I have a feeling by seeing the intake temperature on my Uconnect performance page that it could make a difference. Thanks and keep the good work with your video, your awesome!
How about a video on instant center and various types of rear suspensions and how changing things like bar angles change the way the car drives. Or how about an advanced aero dynamics lecture with more math and less opinion
So then does this mean the Cervini Hood Shaker does nothing to increase Hp & Tq, being listed as 485hp still? They advertise a 15hp gain from their Cervini Hood Shaker. If true shouldn't this car be now listed as a 500hp car?
+EngineeringExplained How can I launch an Semi-Automatic vehicle if I'm in automatic or Manual mode? Will the car automatically take care of the clutch, the car only has a brake and a gas pedal...
So I've been looking to get a new car, and I've been wrapping my head around a scat pack, but I'm not sure if I will be able to fit in it? I'm 7ft tall by the way.
I wish the government would up safety regulations so the A-pillars on future cars will block 6-8 people from sight while crossing the road instead of only 3.
This is not an SRT. The shaker is only available on the R/T, making this a shaker scat pack R/T. The SRT 392 has larger front brakes, adaptive suspension, wider wheels, and better pirelli p zero tires. Big difference in handling between the two.
Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but I think it means that the top of the combustion chamber is hemispherical, which is good because, uh... It makes combustion more even by eliminating corners? maybe? I'm not really sure.
It used to mean that the cylinder had a hemispherical head but I don't think they do anymore so now it is more of a name for Dodge performance engines.
Diddly Mcgee to be honest I'm not sure. Perhaps for airflow in the engine bay. I'd assume the old school ones were for forcing air into the carb'd engine, where as these will have a separate air intake. So I'd say it's primary goal is cosmetic, so you watch watch the engine vroom vroom. I think it's cool! Unique at the very least.
Brake horsepower (BHP) is the measure of an engine's horsepower (HP) before the loss in power caused by the gearbox, alternator, differential, water pump, and other auxiliary components such as power steering pump, muffled exhaust system, etc. vs RWHP which is the most important HP of all!
The shaker is just pure awesomeness!! I drive one and everyone notice it. But when you drive one everyday you don't really notice anymore the shaking motion but you should try it when you launch without TCS. When the tire try to grip and slip at this exact moment the shaking motion is like a beast trying to get out of your hood.
are you 20 or 40?
i think both
Could might as well be 50s. We just don't know.
He is.
He just is.
he knows everything so he was born when big bang happened
this comment is so underrated
The Scat Pack has a 'butt load' of power!
Jack1138 haha, it's funny because I was attempting to say boatload but my mouth is useless, so it ended up sounding like "buttload" the first time. Luckily, both words are accurate haha.
i heard that too
why would someone even pick a name like this?
i hope the 'scat' didn't have that meaning in the 60s
Jack1138 lol
I hope everyone has a great Sunday!!
Stephen Cutler thanks man
Absolutely love the 392 Scat Pack! Getting myself one next spring
I own one of these in the manual. Same color same trim minus wheels. Absolutely love it.
Do you still have it?
Nicely done Jason! It was great hanging out all week at SEMA and I appreciate the shoutout! My video of us in the Jeep will be posted later today. Hopefully we can meet up for another adventure soon!
subaruwrxfan you're the man!! Excited for the Jeep SRT review (this time, we correctly call it the SRT haha). Cheers!
These things handle surprisingly well. Not really like a sports car, but for the weight not too bad.
One benefit of the challenger is that it doesn't have a I4 engine.
lego technic best part
I love the car reviews, but have you ever thought of doing used or older car reviews? I know a lot of the audience (myself included) aren't in the position to be purchasing a new car. I'd love to hear your thoughts on cars like c5 corvettes, e36's, s30's, and stuff like that.
A modified genesis coupe no one has done a good review yet
thatdudeinblue reviewed a modified BK1 genesis coupe
I would still love to know what he thinks, I learn so much from this channel
Dan Giaimo did you not listen to his intro? he's a geek at heart. reviewing cars take a lot of time. he wants to focus on other aspects of the auto motive wolrd. Saab kyle has what you need though.
Subaruwrxfan, Engineering Explained, and BustedKnuckle in the same car !! nice !! You should've called Car throttle too !! or Saabkyle !!
+Yathu prem they were around! You'll likely see me in SaabKyle video soon, and if not definitely in CT's video review of Rob Dahm's 4-rotor RX-7!!
Engineering Explained Saw u in the CT video !! It's been a week, i think !! Anyway nice video man !! Expect more like this from you. And need more car shots !! Like in Subaruwrxfan. Also why u upload about SEMA this late??

Engineering Explained, right on
H Mack Canadian Muscle car, yup they are assembled up there in Canada. Many parts are made in Mexico, and some also in Germany. Sad thing is the Honda civic is more of a domestic car than this, since most of it is made here in the States :(
Adam Griffin us Canadians get the civic built here too, although the new hatchback is built in England
H Mack Had an 09 Charger SRT8 miss that car. I just find it sad that American Car companies choose to not take care of thier own.
the current challenger platform hard to keep up against another sports car in its class, but i understand the challenger means to be the 'true muscle car' than mustang and camaro
Spot on review guys!
RP Productions hey!
Hey man I really love your videos and totally love how you wrapped that mean Kat of yours the red stripes go absolutely perfect with the white it's funny because I can't stand white

+J Reyes my name's Jason, I'm so glad you enjoy the channel, thanks for watching!!
how old does it have to be in order to be dated technology? the first dual overhead cam motor in a car was in 1929, so is that still new?
Big smiley faces right in the beginning when you nailed it. Nothing like horsepower.
I wonder. Do you really NEED the supercharger? As these cars get older, wouldn't it be a lot easier to work on the natural aspirated engine?
I looked into that when I was car shopping. Heads and cam are only good for 50 hp. Kind of a waste because of the variable timing they use and computer system they are hard to tune. You can only go so big
Better to go German. A 1k tube will get you upwards to 100 HP. Diehard Mopar head but man they are so big and not very tune friendly.
I feel like you might have assumed it "drives like a boat" due to it's known weight without really testing it on the twisty mountain roads like you normally do. You might have been surprised. +Mikey C I certainly did test it, just not much in the video. Lots of understeer when cornering hard; obviously can oversteer using your right foot.
Just so you all know. In a pushrod motor when looking for high rpm strength is a million times more important than weight, especially when it comes to the pushrod and rocker arm.
OMG ITS SUBARUWRXFAN. Love when you guys collab.
Best Car Review Yet! But I might be a bit biased. Let me know when you want to come to Alabama and do a car review on driving a Rock Bouncer or a Built RZR. Ever driven anything with rear steer?
+BustedKnuckleVideo awesome!! Used to drive forklifts, so I've experienced it before in something that weighs 10,000+ lbs and has no power haha.
Wow, almost 1 million! You are one of the fastest growing channels I have seen. Maybe second behind Casey! :)
Whatever he is...., a very successful one! :)
Love all of these car RUclips guys. You guys are definitely celebrities in the car world.
I love busted knuckle videos he is one of my favorite RUclipsrs of all time.

16/25 mpg. They defied science.
I really thought you were going to explain the shaker and how and if it actually is functional! Can you do a video on a shaker scat pack that does the engineering behind this?
I was actually looking at getting a Challenger next year, but the S2k seems soooo nice
Vin Diesel drives a Challenger, I mean.. That's all which should be said. I drive a 2010 Mustang GT but I'm looking to change that soon. Great Video.
Cool collaboration. Hope to see more from the trio.
hey Engineering explained! i'm a diesel mechanic student and i asked my teacher for an explenation on variable valve actuator but he said he wasn't sure himself do you think you could make a video about it? thanks!

almost cried when i saw Suburdaburax fan
the Challenger SRT hellcat or the 392 is The best muscle car for the money!!.....
Damn, you didn't do Blown Heads this time at SEMA!
+Ceazar Carr haha indeed we did not. We all love each other, but it's challenging to get all of our schedules to align, even when we're in the same city. But you'll see collabs across the channels!
P.S. Best video ever would be You + SubaruWrxFan + SaabKyle + ThatDudeInBlue + SmokingTire + RedlineReviews + EverydayDriver :D
Thank you!

Im glad you just sat in the car and talked about it. Definitely would not want to see the car actually be driven.
Driving through boulder?...... edit.... nevermind you call it out later on. And we aren't weird, most other people are boring! Another good video.
Jason, the Aventador has a 6.5L NA engine! Marginally bigger, but bigger.
ooh sodium filled valves! just like my 1991 Audi! But it had a carbon fiber driveshaft, maybe Dodge will figure that out in another 20 years.
your videos help me too much in my engg studies .. easy to understand.. nyc work bro
Did my man drive over the hoover dam like no big deal?
Wow! Always love fav RUclipsr's coming together :D
i want to know about a 7 cylinder engine
sisu diesel has one which is 7cylinders
Matt is the man.
I love his RUclips videos
my god!!!!! my 2 favourite car reviewers in 1 vid this is epic!!!!
i have a 2014 challenger rt. You dont have to fear the back roads. You have to know how to corner using throttle, brake and steering.
yep, 100% correct. I surprise the hell out of people at local autocross events. Put some good rubber on it, because dodge has no clue what tires to put on cars. Then go rock and roll with the best of them.

You say sodium filled exhaust valves like that's new technology. Rolls Royce used it in the Merlin engine in the 1930's. Still ingenious though!
Love that color!

I put summer tires on my R/T and it handles far better than the new Mustangs and better than the 2015 Camaros. So not why they keep saying it handles poorly. Hi Engineering Explained, I have a quick question for you about the shaker air intake. I have a 2015 challenger RT Shaker and I've noticed that there's a hole at the bottom of the air box sucking hot engine bay air. I'm sure you saw it also because you must have opened the hood ;) Do you think it could be a good idea to block this hole to make sure that all the air is provided by the shaker intake and not from the engine bay. will be purchasing this car very soon, test drove one and I gotta have this car
Great video! Keep up the good work!
You have the illest job in the game right now. I envy you.
I think the Challenger is the most luxurious of the "muscle" cars but the Camaro has the best standard options.
Peyton S. naw it's has to be cts v s are classed as luxury muscle cars
There is a Challenger and a Camaro in front of you. You have to do a 2,000 mile road trip. Which do you choose?
Kevin Smith My Challenger any day of the week. I tried a trip to Austin in my buddies 14 Camaro and honestly not all too comfy in my opinion.
So then does this mean the Cervini Hood Shaker does nothing to increase Hp & Tq, being listed as 485hp still?
They advertise a 15hp gain from their Cervini Hood Shaker.
If true shouldn't this car be now listed as a 500hp car?
Hey man why don't you and subaruwrxfan do a review together. That would b nice
they just did...
+EngineeringExplained How can I launch an Semi-Automatic vehicle if I'm in automatic or Manual mode? Will the car automatically take care of the clutch, the car only has a brake and a gas pedal...
If it has no clutch pedal or steering paddles, the car will automatically take care of the clutch, you just gotta give it gas
Don't forget about the classic GM LS7! 7 liters of America!
sodium filled exhaust valves, they were also in 60's Alfa Romeos, weren't they? Is this considered a new tech in America? :P
This should come standard with a big loping cam for a real show
you should have done the hellcat review
Just rode in one at the Seattle Auto Show!
Alan T - cool story. I like all of the descriptive details. 👍🏽
Cool story bro....🙄😐
Do the shaker add some power to that 485?
Is this the one with Noel miller
So I've been looking to get a new car, and I've been wrapping my head around a scat pack, but I'm not sure if I will be able to fit in it? I'm 7ft tall by the way.
Maybe you could look into the Grand Cherokee SRT. Or a convertible. :)
So this is the member berries of cars?
What a great collab
Ok, to be honest i don't know what hemi means, whats the difference from a regular engine?.
Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but I think it means that the top of the combustion chamber is hemispherical, which is good because, uh... It makes combustion more even by eliminating corners? maybe? I'm not really sure.
Mesder13 that's how I understand it. A quick Google search will answer your question though.
It used to mean that the cylinder had a hemispherical head but I don't think they do anymore so now it is more of a name for Dodge performance engines.

So the new 6.4l hemi has pushrods? No DOHC?
The world needs these archaic engines. Ford has gone DOHC, Chevy are now doing IRS, we need this old tech and the romantics that come with them.
5.7 and 6.4 have always been pushrod engines, so yes
Yes, much simpler, cheaper, easier to work on. LS motors are the same way
poopdawg27 I'm kinda surprised, so basically it has the same design as the LT in the camaro or an LS, amazing that a pushrod sounds that good.
Nothing wrong with a good pushrod engine :]
I'm so early, nothing like engineering church before real church :P
+zachary ponds haha right on!
I would argue this is the real church.
by all means
Cool but you need to show the interiors and stuff like the suspensions, as you always do ;)
why did you move from oregon?
hiiii broo how much fuel full in tank if any car
Shaker comes with the 5.7 or 6.4. The 392 shaker is not a SRT. It's a RT.
you guys came all the way to vegas and didn't even call me 😎
Sema weekend I guess.
How's the s2000??
You left the dalles? Hope you are still in the PNW.
is the shaker hood functional?
Diddly Mcgee yes it is
Diddly Mcgee to be honest I'm not sure. Perhaps for airflow in the engine bay. I'd assume the old school ones were for forcing air into the carb'd engine, where as these will have a separate air intake. So I'd say it's primary goal is cosmetic, so you watch watch the engine vroom vroom. I think it's cool! Unique at the very least.
just wondering, what does the "b" in "bhp" mean?
Brake horsepower (BHP) is the measure of an engine's horsepower (HP) before the loss in power caused by the gearbox, alternator, differential, water pump, and other auxiliary components such as power steering pump, muffled exhaust system, etc. vs RWHP which is the most important HP of all!
Shaker hood. That is awesome.
DOES IT HAVE LUDICROUS MODE??
