I love how Rufus seems smug and in control, but he says concessions that makes you perfectly aware that he knows how dangerous Cloud is.

Stop is the best spell in the game. It also freezes the stagger gauge giving you an increased time for increased damage.
Toveri Juri My comment was stating that Stop never worked on bosses in Final Fantasy games until now. That’s why none of us used it at first and why we are all shocked. It is by far the most useful spell in this game.
I was looking for this fight and bam. A fresh new video AND it's done without taking damage.

@@teamhebi13 To me the dog part was easy, just had to separated them from each other, its that melee/gun counter he does that kept making the battle long that uses after darkstar stops helping him.

Rufus has the craziest shotgun I've ever seen. he can use at as springboard and fire bullets along with lasers, no wonder he was so confident on even participating in fighting. dude even has some nice dodge skills, I wonder who taught him how to fight.
Maybe he trained with 1st Soldiers ? This is an interesting question.
Actually, in the original game the "dog" with him is his master, not his pet...

The thing is, the only way to beat him is to use exploits like limits or abilities. you can't just fight normally otherwise he'll counter your every attack.

gamerprince1999 how are those exploits? Those are literally regular game mechanics that are supposed to be used as often as possible, unless you think mashing Square is the only viable/acceptable way to win
@@bdpchamp My issue is that mashing square is part of the battle system (in order to increase ATB) and doing it is pointless in this battle because he'll almost always counter you. otherwise, you're just slowly waiting for your ATB to fill up to use an ability that will actually allow you to damage him without being punished for it.
Dodge rolling away from Rufus's gun parry is too awesome.
Expectations for fighting Rufus is this video while in reality, he whops our asses easily

First Strike, Time, Binding, and ATB boost helps a lot. Spam triple slash all the way to the third phase. Make him sleep in the third phase, 1 braver and he's out.

THE GAMER EYES:
In the second stage, you can put rufus to sleep with binding materia as soon as the fight starts
Then just run around to get one more atb bar
Use braver on him and that will instantly stagger him
If you can't defeat him while he's staggered, repeat the entire procedure
Edit: you can only attack him when it says RELOADING in red characters on rufus. To get close to him when it says RELOADING, use the disorder ability, cloud will teleport to rufus and attack him
To build atb during this fight, block his GUN AKIMOBO attack when he shoots bullets at you, that's the only attack you can block.
As for darkstar, you can parry his corkscrew attack and that will instantly presure him

This video makes the second cutscene way funnier in my opinion. Rufus comes in all confident with Darkstar, and both of them proceed to get their asses handed to them without even landing a single hit, and then when Cloud asks if Rufus “has his number” his response is a flat no. At least they’re on the same page lmao

In fact this is done first by a Chinese player and he uploaded a video 2 weeks ago, also very clean. That proves how this can be done properly by the pro gamers and how much regular ppl suck at this game

I was dreading this fight when I first played it through on hard mode than it ended up being the easiest fight in the game for me! I don't know if the game glitched out or what but all i did was use the "triple slash" ability and it just kept jumping between him and the dog with neither being able to hit me and the bar refilling almost immediately after the attack was done, after about 4 or 5 triple slashes the dog was out and then i just kept on doing it as it seemed unblockable to him and interrupted his guns! Again i'm not sure if it was a glitch or something as i've heard no one else mention it but just stick with triple slash and its possible to do this fight easily without taking damage!

Everytime I see cloud in a situation where he is hanging on a ledge all I think is " if you drop the buster sword and just got pick it up later u would be like 50 pounds lighter" but I will give the benefit of the doubt that that beam did look slippery

Now I know you said "Want" and I get that but these moments I gave as examples and the moment in question all fall in the category of necessity

I had such a bad time against this guy, if i attacked Rufus he used his counter, and if i attacked the dog then Rufus jumped on my ass. It was such a tough fight for me, didn't even realise stop worked against this guy.

this is how it looks like when everything executed perfectly.
this is not how most of us experienced it when we first play the game.
this flight happens right after 3 other boss fights (or 4?) which you are likely don't have any MP left when you face Rufus
Theres litterly a bench right before rufus that restores everything
@@ShirouBrando not in hard mode. Bench doesn't restore MP and you cannot used items. Only time you MP got replenished is at the beginning of each chapter, so about 18 times.

oh god, It took me awhile to beat him in Hard mode, i counted every 6th shot wich Rufus reloads, thus making him vulnerable, but this waas God Tier

On my first playthrough I couldn't even beat this bastard on normal yet here is someone beating him on hard without taking damage. You z god and I just suck. I pussed out and switched to easy for this fight just so I could get to the ending for the chapter select.
Rufus! *air guitar* George Carlin is the summon for the boss. Real question though, have bosses had summons in the franchise? 10 doesn't count, since it was all about them.

I'm curious the materia on the "side" characters you use to get around the trash AI.
At 3:17, the Japanese original says 'this looks way too awkward, since you're a hero after all'. A better wording would be 'hanging there looks too awkward for a hero like you' as I'd imagine, but after all English is not my native tongue as I'm Asian. Still, SE's localization for this particular line stays somewhat faithful to the original script in Japanese, unlike many other lines which don't at all (I could cringe through the entire game looking at the English subs while listening to the Japanese VO =_=).

I'm trying to pinpoint Rufus' face cause for some reason his face looks familiar..then it dawn on me that he looks like young Edward Furlong. Only blond. The original game was made in the 90s, and Edward was a hearthrob back then, maybe Tetsuya got his vision from there. Rufus looks exactly like a 90s boyband hearthrob..I'm a 90s kid so I'm not complaining..lol
I keep reading that twin stinger is the best weapon for cloud if you want him to be balanced but buster sword has better final stats in every department than twin stinger so not sure why ppl think that
twin stinger does better on the elemental weakness, both physical and magical, which makes it more annoying that every fight u have to adjust the materia for the weakness of that boss
