I think there's a good chance he plays a bigger role. If you noticed at the end of the game he noticed the whispers while Tseng did not. So he knows something's up.
Using the Punisher counter either by changing stances (this stance change period counts as a counter) or by holding guard in Punisher stance as Darkstar uses Whirlwhip or Corkscrew will cause a special animation to happen and immediately put Darkstar in pressured + down for the count for an easy stagger. Be aware though that Rufus will try and hinder you during this time. When you fight Rufus solo, using the Assess materia tells you using a “certain move” will instantly stagger him if executed while he’s reloading. This move is actually Braver! Guard or dodge a gun attack then immediately run up and Braver as fast as you can to instantly stagger him! The timing and range can be tricky and tight, but it’s definitely worth it.
Thank you so much, I actually came to this video specifically for this, because I saw it, and thought braver, but honestly didn't want to waste an atb meter lmao
This tip is helping me out on my hard mode run... I didn't know you could use punisher's counter from guarding, I thought you had to time it from operator into punisher to get the counter

Is nobody going to talk about that smirk and little smug laugh Cloud did at 2:36? It caught me off guard when I played the game cuz I didn’t expect that
God. The best part of this entire game is Cloud and Barrett going from tense and superficial allies to full-scale bromance and respect at the end. XIII and Barrett's relationship makes it even better.
I honestly love that you can't even come close to him without getting attacked immediately. I probably used every single swear in my vocabulary while playing, but it was a lot of fun too.
Anyone else get the vibe Rufus is more interested in testing himself here over actually killing Cloud? When the battle starts Clouds like "Let's get this over with" and Rufus responds "Don't say that" with a vibe that feels like he wants to draw this out. Between that and the later comments it makes me suspect he's more into enjoying the fight(which i can totally appreciate).
I've always thought about why the whispers don't intervene with the deaths of unimportant characters. Like presumably the helicopter crew doesn't die in the original, yet they die here. What gives?
Let's talk about the upper body strength and lack of fear Rufus must have...to so smoothly one arm a rushing helicopter and maintain form with such satisfied contentment...while dangling seventy stories above a city. He'd rather grip his shotty than use that other hand for support. If that's not a badass, I don't know what is.
lmao all I could think about watching it was Reno and Rude panicking inside because he’s making their bodyguard job so hard. Tseng later like, “sir I... must insist you use standard boarding procedure next time”

I feel like Rufus's remake design took some cues from Dauragon C Mikado from the Bouncer, who himself was basically and expy of '97 Rufus. Coincidence? I think not!

Don't remind me of that song! The PTSD! 🤣
That song gets stuck in your head.
Man was it satifying when I used Braver and finished Rufus in 1 combo. I almost tried every ability and he kept parrying me until I figured it out!
oh man, sucks that i didn't have assess on cloud at the time. literally went with thunder then pulling off 3 autos. it was slow and painful but it got the job done

Don't disrespect Rufus like that.

Can we just take a moment and feel bad for the helicopter crew that got shot down?
There wasn't even an awning in that direction. They fell seventy stories.
The helicopter fell perhaps they jumped, they have plenty of time from those seventy stories.

Cloud Strife VS. The spare change in Rufus' pocket
Wow... Rufus gains some cool points for that escape.
@@charismapher his gun actually fell when Cloud hit it, so his other hand is completely empty xD

Honestly? I think this fight is even better than the original. Rufus started as a whiny kid that suddenly inherits the whole of Shinra and spends the game chasing after Sephiroth, but here he seems to have more of his own character and agenda. It reminds me a bit of that FF15 guy with the white trenchoat, too.
Yeah, I definitely think Square are going to flesh out Rufus' story a lot more in the next parts. It will be interesting to see where they go with ShinRa's story this time around, since the Turks and Rufus' final moments in the og FF7 are pretty anticlimactic.

@@nghtspawn651 Well Ravus had good reasons Rufus on the other hand not so much.
