Rufus Shinra is a very interesting character. Not only did he appear as an antagonist within the original version of Final Fantasy 7, but he also appeared in Before Crisis and Advent Children in equally important, but supporting roles.
Throughout this Origins video, we will explore how Rufus attempted to usurp his father to become the President of Shinra and what happened after the Shinra Headquarters was destroyed by Diamond Weapon.

Rufus is so human like. What a great villain. He's not evil. He just has priorities antagonistic to the protagonist.

@@callmeshaggy5166I swear old game characters always have some random ass outlier like from the rest of their portrayal I’m sure he somewhat meant what he said there but he probably meant it in a very literal like ruling through fear mainly will be effective rather than being some villainous tyrant. But maybe he was just originally a bad person and grew past it.
Rufus was always very memorable to me, despite not being in the game a whole lot. Whenever he was onscreen, he made a big impact
One of my favorite under rated characters. Machina abridged 5 seasons retelling of FFVII is a must watch for any fan too.

So Rufus has been one of my favorite characters in this game. I knew he had an older brother (any Crisis Core player would know) but I never knew he had a younger one. I've researched the game and its lore extensively since 2006 so finding out a little tidbit like that makes my knowledge that more complete.
Still waiting on a video on the fon Ronsenburgs. But I'll also take Kain Highwind.
He has more half siblings. In the novel about his younger brother he said that there were already people comming to him. So he has at least 2 more half siblings but in the book it also sounded like he has up to... 6 or 7 siblings 😅
And I just finished FF7 again (original one, not remastered), such a fine little game.

That transition effect at 14:30 is so incredibly crisp and clean…
In Remake, Rufus' supposed ruthlessness was overshadowed by an apparent desire to screw and kill Cloud...and it might not have been in that order 😂. In replaying that fight for my hard mode run though, I see that Cloud was actually the instigator of a lot of the flirty lines like saying "Got my number?" and I'm left wondering if he even knew what he was doing. Ha, I love the idea of Cloud being an accidental tease 😁

@@TheKmacback1 there’s a fan theory that President Shinra is Cloud’s father. Since he had a manor in Nibelheim, Cloud’s father is never mentioned, and he and his mother are treated like outcasts.
At this point, everyone who has the same blonde shade as Rufus and his known brothers is consider a sibling to me. His dad was a horn dog.

the new novel that was written by Nojima says cloud father was a traveler and disappeared when he was on the other side of mountain when cloud was of walking age. they found his belongings but not him.
Rufus is a lot more interesting than I thought. Quite an interesting character. FFVII is truly the dark side as a team, more than any other FF

Oh wow, I just watched the FF7 Advent Children movie and played Dirge of Cerberus, so I had no idea Rufus started out as more of a bad guy, his character development really is interesting, I personally believe he turned over a new leaf, the Turks seem to sincerely care a great deal about him and I don't think Reno and Rude would, if he hadn't changed for the better.

Fun observations but not sure if on here as I watch.... Rufus's remake outfit has a wild west style gunslinger saddle belt, and a couple of moves taken or inspired from old high-budget cowboy films such as those by Clint Eastwood and Chuck Norris (gun slinging/counters).

On an unrelated note, kinda, what do you thing of Japanese video game music being played during the opening ceremonies of the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games? It has been trending on Twitter. I figured that Japan would pull something like this, with it being one of the world capitals of video games which has so done so much to pioneer video games and make them what they are today. Selections from Square Enix, Capcom, Sega, Bandai Namco, Konami, etc., titles were used. Square Enix were well represented with Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts, NieR, SaGa, Chrono Trigger...
To hear the Final Fantasy Main Theme by Nobuo Uematsu on the world stage ... what could be more exciting and exhilarating for a Final Fantasy fan?

Sorry for the newb questions… Are all the screenshots from Before Crisis? I thought it wasn’t written in English. Also, when did the stuff happen between 7 and AC with the kidnapping? In a book/graphic novel?
There are fan translations of Before Crisis. The events between 7 and AC are a series of novellas called _On the Way to a Smile_ and can be found online for free, or as unofficial audiobooks on YT.
You should do fran from XII since she's the only non fully human character you get to control in the game
Rufus sorta reminds me of Prince Lotor from Voltron who also wanted his father dead and take his place.
Always loved Rufus as a character. I liked to believe the Turks were totally loyal to him because underneath the persona of an entitled son of a despot, he was trying to be different than his father. He tried to change things to an extent in Before Crisis. He helped to rebuild after the events of ff7. Pretty complex character if you read into it. Always thought he was interesting 😊
Rufus is a really interesting character, I can't wait to see how they develop him in the remake.

Wait a second. They made interesting antagonists all vying for their own slice of glory? OMG. You put into literl terms what I've never noticed about why I liked the Turks or the bad guys in ff7 so much. You kinda loved to hate them. And they all stood out. Well written script.
After beating Dissidia 012 for the first time I'm binging through this series to learn more about the characters in it. If this series has any chance of continuing someday, it might be neat to see a summary of Garland with how much his story has expanded between the likes of his role in Dissidia and Stranger of Paradise.

FF UNION., i´m replaying FF 7 on my ps1 right now, and Sephirot didn´t knew who Jenova really was., when he found about Jenova in the shinra mansion he thought Jenova was an Ancient, a Cetra,. but she wasn´t a Cetra, she was a monster-alien-witch from space that represents chaos in this game basically., but Sephirot, since Profesor Gast said to him that Jenova was a woman and was his mother and died, sephirot thought his mother was a normal human woman., then he finds out about Jenova but he thinks that she was a Cetra, an Ancient., he gets angry and wants to get Jenova´s corpse but he doesn´t seem to understand who Jenova is really., so., i think that Jenova took over Sephirot, the evil Sephirot is a mix between sephirot and Jenova., is the ultimate incestual and unholy almost like luciferian creature, an unholy angel, the opposite of Aeris which is a real Cetra, i think, VINCENT is the father of Sephirot and Gast and Hojo are kinda the scientific fathers of sephirot, Lucrecia is his mother but Jenova is his unholy mother since he was injected with jenova cells and mako since he was a child, he is a mix between jenova and mako and human
It confirmed Hojo is sephiroth biological father and lucrecia is his mother he was inject led with the cells as a fetus while still being in the womb

Who are the remnants of sephiroth, like where did come from and how are they related to sephiroth
They are physical manifestation of Sephiroth's consciousness in the life stream. Due to J-cell, Sephiroth can never dissolve in the life stream so he just lingers there. Because his own memories are fragmented, he uses other people's memory of him to create the three remnants and unleashes them to Gaia. Their purpose is to find J-cell for reunion and thus completing physical resurrection of Sephiroth.

I have never heard of that ship but I support them all, lol. And I love that description of Rufus. Read a story that had him being with Genesis in a turbulent relationship fueled by Rufus' coke addiction. That wasn't the whole story (it was a SephxCloud story with other relationships), but I loved how real and viceral their relationship was (also, Genesis' love of literature and Loveless plays well into Rufus if he enjoyed Oscar Wilde, lol!). It was a sassy Cloud that read Rufus the riot act to get his shit together and stop hurting Genesis, who was initially only meant to be his body guard.
I'm trying to think if Gen was an insufferable asshole as usual in that story but can't remember. The story is called Blonde Ambition, by SephCountTheWays if curious and while I know it's on FF.net, not sure if it's on AO3 (also, the story has been going on for forever and sadly now is updated only once a year or so, but the chapters are very, very long for the wait).

Imagine the remake of part 2 and part 3 Final fantasy 7, Cloud, his friends and Sephiroth going to kick Shinra hard.
Until Midgar belong to them a better future.
I still sorta feel Rufus should have stayed dead in FF7, as largely his own arrogance was his undoing.
Even though he was SUPPOSEDLY killed in a double-KO during the face-off against Diamond Weapon, Rufus did unwittingly provide some much-needed help to the protagonists and by extension, the people of the planet by not only destroying Diamond Weapon in one shot, but in that same shot, he also destroyed Sephiroth's barrier over the crater.
His later reappearances felt more like fanservice to those who liked him as he felt like he had less and less purpose as the sequels went on... honestly anyone else could have had Jenova's head in Advent Children and the plot wouldn't have been too drastically affected

The things Square-Enix missed in this FF 7 Remake are a) They missed the chance to make Midgar more cyberpunk., if you play the original game, yes some people has regular clothes., like suits and such but others look like in a cyberpunk world., and i´m talking about the NPCs, especially the people in the slums they missed the chance to make them look more poor or something, Midgar should looke like Akira, Blade Runner and ALITA they missed the chance, even Crisis Core made it better in that regard., there were too few situations and locations both in midgar and the slumbs that looked like cyberpunk and poor., b) They missed the opportunity of introducing DETECTIVE JOE !!, it would have been amazing if there was a side quest involving Detective Joe., although i think Detective Joe ended up divinding itself between Barret and Cid, i think he looked like Cid but acted like Barret., still was a missed opportunity., c) They missed the opportunity of using WANTED posters for Yuffie, in the original concept of FF 7 the Turtles paradise flyers were WANTED posters and Yuffie looked different in each poster, you when you find her she looked like the last poster you found of her., a missed opportunity., d) The FAKE Red 13s.... in the original concept there were 2 clones of Red 13, Cobalt and Indigo., which looked like him but like cyborg versions of Nanaki, and were bosses, they missed the opportunity of introducing them as an eastern egg, e) Crazy Soldier Drop outs., in the original concept you could find in the world ex-soldier members that went crazy cause the experiments with mako, some sort of mako-yunkies, an example was the "guy inside the pipe" in sector 6 slums,.... those are stuff i think they missed so till the next remake i think lol

after watching a 3 hour youtube video about FF7. I gotta say, it has one of the worst stories. After watching the FF7 and FF8 videos, here, I came to the conclusion both games stories sucked. They were some of the first 2 rpg games I played. Even back when they first came out, I loved them and wondered why there wasn't more JRPG here. Now, I don't think I will ever play another one. And whatever it is they are calling Final fantasy now, is not final fantasy, if you don't have all the summons, its just a JRPG with a final fantasy skin on.
But watching the story play out in 3 hours as opposed to 3 weeks, 3 months or more... the story seemed to go from good to bad, to horrible and ugly. I had gotten almost all the way to the end in FF7 and had no idea I was wrong about the story. Same with 8. I thought Cloud was a former SOLDIER, turns out their story telling was not good, specially when we just button mash so we can hurry through to the next scene. It dragged on so long that people with short attention basically had their own stories on what was happening in FF7, again, same thing with FF8, took me till just yesterday to find out who Squalls parents were and what the point of both games were. They changed too much every time you thought you knew what was going on, and not in a good way. Sucks, I wanted to play the remake of ff7 but if the story is that bad, I have no interests in finding out squall is some nobody who pretended he was some one else that was cooler and more connected to the characters....so stupid
I really cant stand the compilation of Ff7. In my head canon the original Ff7 stand for itself. As a concluded Story. And rufus is dead. As it was imagined in the original Story. His character alterations doesnt even match with the original Vision.
