Rufus in the original FF7: 0:37, some polygons that suggest he was wearing a REALLY expensive and well fitted suit Rufus in FF7R: BELTS, ALL THE BELTS YOU WANT MY FRIEND
I love Rufus because he is introduced seconds after Sephiroth steals the show, and every moment of screen time he has is spent DESPERATELY trying to convince Cloud that "no really, I'm your antagonist now, pay attention to me!" and fucking nobody is buying it. He also knows and refers to Cloud by name, which when you think about it is a rarity among villains.
Imo he would have really benefited from having a second fight. It would have just made him a lot more memorable. I was really surprised when he didn’t in the last midgar section.
From selfish greedy villain to Cunning Intelligent working in the shadows hero Rufus had probably one of my favorite Development arcs I’ve ever seen in a game
Ah yes, President Rufus "I somehow survived getting blasted straight in the face by a gigantic ancient kaiju superweapon that destroyed my entire skyscraper, of which I was standing in the top floor of, silently accepting what seemed to have been my inevitable demise without any major injury whatsoever because Tetsuya Nomura wanted to bring me back for Advent Children and look cool standing up from my wheel chair after pretending to have been crippled for half the movie", Shinra. What a beautiful character!
While I was kind of disappointed that Rufus was left much more mysterious character in FF7RM compared to the original FF7 when they cut his exposition, I was surprised how badass he was made for a compensation. Maybe I forgot Nomura was "show, not tell" kinda guy, he makes awesome-looking nonsense.
That opening quote basically applies to most tales of game villains, Yggdrasil, richter, van, duke, gaius, helldolf, artorius, ect like only Lambda is the exception from the games I’ve played
Axel Jules Etienne Yep Graces/f, I mean unlike most tales of villains who actually want to do something good through really screwed up means, Lambda, just wanted to blow up the planet that way no one could hurt him anymore since he’s basically the equivalent of a super-powered abused child
_ scüp, He was in no way an actual good hero, like no other villains made people kill themselves he literally wanted to take away free will from people and for everything to follow pure logic and reason, There is literally a part with an old man under the influence of inominot who tries to kill himself because he is old and taking up resources (logic/reason), He was in no way being controlled it was a equal partnership
As someone who grew up with and loving FF7 Rufus was such a cool character that stayed important in the compilations. Your video so expertly captures a lot of what I noticed and love about him and his character progression. Thank you for compiling and articulating my feelings over the year, I'm glad I subbed to you on YT.
I feel like Rufus is going to have a major part in the remakes, given the visual paralleling they did with him and Cloud after the Edge of Creation scene. Just says to me that he's being shown to be Very Important. Also, he saw the whispers. I mean, who knows what that actually implies, but its definitely significant.
Gotterdammerung makes it easier too. Basically takes out Darkstar and it builds up the limit gauge continuously. Equip lightning materia in an Armour slot with elemental and boom immune to their lightning attacks. Doesn't make it easy but makes it easier lol
Rufus' name could also, well be referencing his ideology of ruling the world through fear and might, in other words it would make him a "Ruthless Shinra"
Really great video as always. I've been a big fan of your channel for awhile and have loved when you brought your style and detail to things such as Castlevania, SMT/Persona, and Metal Gear. And as FF7 is one of my favorite RPGs this is a great intro to you moving into more of the series. Great as always
Meti i absolutely love how you talk of characters that need more discussion! (Another example , your video in Kazuhira Miller) thank You so much ♥️ love the video!
The Rufus/Hell Hound boss fight was dope AF in the remake. I hope we see a lot more of him in the remake than what was in the OG. They also need to bring back Genesis and have him beef with Sephiroth….Zack is back now so maybe angeal and Cissnei….Cissnei straight up disappeared
I like that in the end Shinra, led by Rufus, still act quickly to take down Weapon. I felt in real life there would be much more discussion, red tape, glory hogging and misinformation, which stops us from solving big, slow problems that are visisble on the horizon (CLIMATE CHAAAANGE) And he took on the whole damn party with a shotgun and a dog, kind of epic
I understand you're all concerned, but geological lag time would stop any immediate actions for 50 years. With that, volcanos produce much more pollution than we do in any sort of comparison. Time moves on and the one degree celcius wont do too much in the grand scheme of things.
I’ve had a crush on Rufus since I first saw him in AC at the age of 14. He was just so mysterious and something about him drew me in. I think Square Enix made him this hot on purpose. God...🤤
I find it so poetic that he took the "L" just to save himself. It's everything that he is against, the memory of his begrudging father stung him, as he was for the first time willing himself to shallow his pride for the sake of survival, like the people he mocks below him.
Didn't know about the novel part of the tale of Rufus "No! I am your Virgil" Shinra. Good shit, still hype for FF7RemakePart2 (it's gonna be a mouthful when it's all out isn't it xD)
Man this is honestly making me sad that I never played FF7 when I was growing up, I never had any Sony consoles and emulation had only gotten as far as snes/gba so I only played up to FF6, before the FF7 remake came out I even thought the game took place entirely within midgard because I just had never seen anything else from it. Hearing so many cool things about it now makes me wish I'd somehowplayed it back then.
Well time to ask once again on a video game character analysis video, Please try and look into Astral Chain. It be interesting to see you try and understand things from that game.
Since he had such a problematic with his father, his pet might have been his only friend growing up. i like to think that after ff7 and shinras downfall, tseng, rude, reno and elena became his friends, helping him when he became ill with geostigma.
Would you consider doing a Video on Genesis as he's a charicter I feel gets way too much hate and also one of my personal favorite villians as he's a failed version of what Sepiroth is constantly chaseing his idol and friend's shadow in one form or another be it trying to out perform him as a solder or get his hands on some S-cells to stop his degradation.
He gets the hate because he's too pretencious and basically Gackt's self-insert character in a "FF7" fanfiction Tho I LOVE Crisis Core because it greatly expands the lore and the characters, but removing him from the game would've taken away the worst parts of the plot And yeah I get it why people love him, but all I see is Gackt's own Marie-Sue character so he can bash his ego some more, but that's just how I see it
I wish they kept his red hair (even if it wasn't intentional) Too many expressionless blondes in this franchise already, not that its a totally bad thing though
If your content ever dries up, I highly recommend touching on black clover and making some content on that anime/manga. It’s really good and I’d love to see you do videos on it.
I know you may never read this, but could you please watch Wakfu? It's a french animation, and it's on netflix. I wish you could review it as it contains one of the best villains in western animation: Nox the Clockmaker. If you read this comment, plz pin me

Rufus was a monster in the remake, he was one of the only bosses I genuinely struggled with for a bit
He made me love the counter stance and materia though
Such a cool fight
Dude I died the most against him, but the whole time I was simping
@@springdeerling7866The man was stylish, I cant blame you
Same.
Rufus Shinra aka the guy that can turn a quarter into a lethal weapon.
I love Rufus, the guy really has such a big arc that people ignore
One of my favorite ff antagonists. Up there with Kefka, Kuja, and Ardyn
Imo he would have really benefited from having a second fight. It would have just made him a lot more memorable. I was really surprised when he didn’t in the last midgar section.
I would have loved to fight him 2/3 more times or even team home and fight as Rufus or the Turks but meh….
Rufus had Jevova in his lap half of Advent Children. I have never envied an alien head so much in my life.
From selfish greedy villain to Cunning Intelligent working in the shadows hero Rufus had probably one of my favorite Development arcs I’ve ever seen in a game

What a beautiful character!
RETCON 100
Nanomac- I mean... JENOVA cells, son!
Rufus is too cool to die
Wut?
Advent children is not canon
Hehe. Rufus survived by taking an L.
@Axton Jaxtyn definitely, been watching on Kaldrostream for since december myself :)
The coin attack was such a sick addition.
I forgot about it legitimately for most of the fight. then I remebered the motorcycle boss fight
Isn't he all tell in kingdom hearts tho?

"You are wrong, I am no son of a bitch, I am the heir to a bastard!" Rufus Shinra in ff7a
I already loved rufus, but I didn't know that there was so much behind his character! He definitely is my favourite on ff7. This was a GREAT video.
Cloud: ur gonna fight me?... *a super soldier* 🤨
Rufus: *screw u i have god and money on my side*
Ironman vs Captain America
screw the rules i have money -rufus shinra
Rufus is the unsung hero of FF7 and no one can claim otherwise.
That opening quote basically applies to most tales of game villains, Yggdrasil, richter, van, duke, gaius,

FGO has nothing on the Tales! XD

Based on Meti's video, Rufus Shinra is an onion... cause of all those layers.
soooo, he is an ogre?
or an ogre
*died from laughing on the floor*
This whole video is why Rufus is one of the definitive GOATs of FFVII
Rufus is the most big brained character in FF7
I feel like Rufus is going to have a major part in the remakes, given the visual paralleling they did with him and Cloud after the Edge of Creation scene. Just says to me that he's being shown to be Very Important. Also, he saw the whispers. I mean, who knows what that actually implies, but its definitely significant.
that means he is not going to be blown up in the building
that means he is not going to be blown up in the building
Rufus on hard difficulty in the Remake is a force to be reckond with.... if you don't have mp.
Gotterdammerung makes it easier too. Basically takes out Darkstar and it builds up the limit gauge continuously. Equip lightning materia in an Armour slot with elemental and boom immune to their lightning attacks. Doesn't make it easy but makes it easier lol
unexpected like a mixtape
Cloud and the Avalanche Gang would never have been able to defeat Sephiroth without Rufus and the Turks.
Rufus: I won’t rule through money like my father
Me: oh, that’s good
Rufus: I’ll rule through fear
Me: oh…
22:07 Rufus: *scout voice* "I'm runnin' circles around ya!"
Rufus was the best boss fight in the remake imo, was looking forward to it so much and it delivered.
President Shinra: Hold that L my boy.
Great video
I'm so happy you're doing Final Fantasy 7 stuff, it's been my childhood and the games/movies mean so much to me!
Rufus' name could also, well be referencing his ideology of ruling the world through fear and might, in other words it would make him a "Ruthless Shinra"
Enjoyed the video, love Rufus. Hope to see FF8 content.

Glad to learn that you are expanding the themes for your videos. Keep up the good work.
Your quality and consistency continue to amaze me!
In the remake the battle and how they portrayed both characters fight styles reminded me a bit of Dante and Vergil.
Rufus sounds like a cute way of saying ruthless.
08:07 love Yakuza nod ;)
especially knowing how remake was similiar to Yakuza series with side stories xD
This greatly increases the odds that President Shinra is Cloud's father.
Wut
Epistemix so Rufus is vergil
This is one of my favorite videos on your channel. Please make a video on Sephiroth!
I’m expecting a Seifer vid since you’re into FF8
Oh yes this
Really wasn't expecting a FF7 vid on this channel. Not really complaining just unexpected.
Wait, hojo really wanted to make aerith and red XIII breed in the canon? I thought it was just a joke in the abridged
yup... Hojo really have some weird fetishes
Yeah that actually happened.
Nope. Wanted some beastiality action.

An unexpected surprise for sure, but a welcome one.
9:05 Ah the tactical Recoil Boost that MONTY RWBY made do awesome. In a Videogame it would be great to escape danger as well!
2:55 a Dio Twist in Final Fantasy?? Color me a surprised chocolate! XD

Splendid review! You revealed information I did not know. Very well. ✨️💕✨️
This was really good!
President Shinra's baby boy: Vice President Rufus "ain't nepotism-a-bitch" Shinra.
I’ve had a crush on Rufus since I first saw him in AC at the age of 14. He was just so mysterious and something about him drew me in. I think Square Enix made him this hot on purpose. God...🤤
Would love to see another final fantasy character video about Gabranth from XII.
Yoo I actually lol'd when i saw the Yakuza text over Rufus.
I find it so poetic that he took the "L" just to save himself. It's everything that he is against, the memory of his begrudging father stung him, as he was for the first time willing himself to shallow his pride for the sake of survival, like the people he mocks below him.

Has anyone noticed how much looks wise Rufus Shinra is to Yoshikage Kira?
He may have been a bit of a violent upstart, however I must say I respect his character more than his father.
