  • Well at least I technically got this out more than 24 hours before the next one premieres. My work schedule will be less crazy next week so I should be able to get a video out by Thursday. Or I might do an initial reactions video Monday and then a longer review later in the week. I honestly never know what I'll do. But I will do something.

I think you're right about Helen's prophecies. She tried to act on them but all she understood to say was to tell people she was afraid of rats. If anything her saying that actually helped Blood and Cheese. It made sense that there were rat catchers in the Queen's quarters just after she'd said she was afraid of rats.

Really enjoying your Dragon Show videos! Your insight about the stitching of the embroidery was illuminating and I can't unsee its shoddiness now. Think I had similar impressions of everything you mentioned, wild to see. Prophecies never helping anyone and Helaena's dissociation were highlights for me. Some crap I thought about Daemon in reaction to the show and your video:
For George R.R. Martin saying Daemon was his favorite Targaryen, with the duality of equal parts light and dark, I feel like the show has unfortunately shown him only as a Dumbass Who Sucks And Is Mean. (Matt Smith doing a great job of course) There are instances of Daemon being personally kind or gentle with his family but that is pretty insufficient to balance the scales. This depiction makes me think about how the worst people in history have had personal relations they valued, and that's not a unique or selfless thing. It's pretty universal to want love or whatever so I perceive Daemon to be consistently selfish in every aspect we see.

Yeah I really don't understand people who think he's a cool badass or a family man. He's a great character and I really enjoy him, but he's just an awful person, not much grey.

Lovely review, I appreciate your analysis of the show! As an Aemond but not Daemon fan, it's the grooming for me. Also, like you mentioned, Aemond's just way more relatable when you can see how his childhood influences his personality.
14:45 - There's a small repeat shot, the library line about Aegon not knowing his kids.

I like that you point out that Rhaenyra’s actions set in motion the whole debacle. Like Aemond, she was not the one to directly call for the murder of Jaehaerys, but she did give Daemon the opportunity to do what he did. It sucks to say but in a way she is responsible for it, not only because she gave Daemon the opportunity, but because as the Queen, she is responsible for the actions of her side.

Daemon's bargain basement assassins were super disappointing 😞There were better ways to get at Aemond if he really wanted to. I love that you are able to see the actions of the characters in the context of the story and its world, so many fans just can't help injecting their own sensibilities. I surely catch myself doing that reflexively, so it's understandable.

Doesn't Aemond marry Alys or something? He promised to marry a barethon daughter to secure that alliance for his brother. My guess is they're setting it up for him to Rob Stark it. Everyone is so focused on his loyalty to commit violence. They aren't even thinking of the more subtle ways his "impulses" can betray the greens.

Really great analysis n breakdown of the episode. I’m more of a green supporter in the show n black in the books.
Y do u find Alicent a hypocrite? N honestly I never understood that hate for criston cole since his anger to rhaenyra seems justified. Could u please explain y u dislike him.
Looking forward to ur future videos btw

    • @QuinnFirstOfHerName

Alicent is a hypocrite because she acts righteous while doing terrible things. I don't think she's as much of a hypocrite as people make out, but she wears a seven pointed star necklace while paying off her son's rape victim and forcing her to drink moon tea. She has human and understandable reasons for the things she does, she's my favorite character on the show, but she's a whole mess of contradictions.
Liking or disliking a character is subjective, I don't particularly dislike Cole, but I don't like him either. Most of the characters on this show are terrible people, I think people dislike him for similar reasons why they dislike Alicent, because he is self righteous. It's understandable for him to dislike Rhaenyra and not want to be her sworn shield anymore, but fully turning on her and wanting to destroy her isn't justified. His characterization of her as a manipulative spider is fully projection, Rhaenyra isn't any more manipulative than any other character on this show. I think it rubs a lot of people the wrong way because it's so reminiscent of the way women are characterized by misogynists today.

@@QuinnFirstOfHerName thank u for giving me an actual reason y alicent is a hypocrite. Its very hard people who can actually give me legtimate reasons y alicent is a hypocrite.
The thing with cole i find it fully justified to turn against rhaenyra and to be against her because the fact is she used him for her own pleasure who didnt care about the consequence that she herself put him in.
Furthermore she betrayed his trust after knowing him and giving him a title to make him something. With Alicent he see a someone who literally saved his life who cares for him and in doing so any threat to alicent or her kids must be destroyed.
N since rhaenyra gaslight the entire kingdom n made obvious bastards it jeopardizes alicent kids even more. To me Criston hate is justified to rhaenyra because the consequences of rhaenyra actions never fall on rhaenyra but on everyone else.

@@jjosifovic I'm genuinely confused that people think cole has aligned himself with the green simply because of his scorn for sth rhaenyra did decades ago. like yeah her rejection was probably the instigating event and a part of why he did it, but the show went to great length to demonstrate that cole developed a true bond with alicent and her kids beyond just their shared hatred of rhaenyra in their 10+ years together. he's probably aemond's only friend. when aegon ran away from home, he was putting up quite a fight until cole stepped in and aegon just... gave up. and helaena, when meleys attacked them at the coronation, she was hiding behind cole and grabbing onto his arm. this is helaena, who is portrayed as a bit on the spectrum and avoiding even physical touch from her mother. it should tell ppl how much the kids see cole as a father figure.

@@jjosifovic judging from episode 2 today I'm not sure which relationship is worst :))) 2 sinners trauma bonding in their performative morality or an incestuous marriage between a complete bloodthirst of a mad dog and the one holding the leash is an entitled, politically inept princess. they're equally sad and toxic.
