Because Rhaena not only cannot fight, she also would be in danger to do anything a she does not have dragon protector. Rhaenyra showed how much she trusts Rhaena senting her as guardian to Aegon and Viserys - and Rhaena threw it all away! If anything questions hould be: how Baela and Rhaena treat their stepmother? Baela is dutiful, selfless,loyal and determined to fight for Rhaenyra and Jacaerys, while Rhaena is angry brat who thinks mostly about herself not about her mother or brothers. Rhaena is teenager, she can be moody, but this is war and she had many weeks to get know with situation. She left two hepless toddlers and went for quest on dragon. How could you keep accusing Rhaenyra of being bad stepmother when she was nothing but kindand compassionate to her stepdaughter is beyond me 😳 Rhaena abandoned her own brothers for selfish quest. SPOILERS FROM BOOK Even if Jace being 'insecure' make sense, that is not whom he was in book! People not always are 'what makes sense". People not always resnet their stepmothers or stepchildren, people not always fell into hysteria seeing death of closed ones and people not always saw only ndownsides. Book Jacaerys example of person who managed to ovecome his insecurity and turned it to something his saw as advantage! It also shows that - wheter Jace in book was Harwin's or Laenor's - he became compassionate towards bastards, even if in book he actually could be legitimate. Jace was inspiring role model, clearly mature at his age. Even his decision on trusting Dragonseed was risky, it was only logical choice to make, and personally I think, as Jacaerys was effective politician, I am of opinion he would be able to guide his mother or appease people in way Riots never happen, if he was in King's Landing. Myabe Hugh and Ulf would never sided with Greens, as Jacaerys was charismatic and charming, and it was he who recruited them - Jacaerys was much better leader than Rhaeyra and I have no doubt that many Rhaenyra's supporters actually supported her because of him

Change of Jace's character is not 'good' - it is absolutely HORRIBLE. Yes, book Jace maybe was naive that he can fully trusts lowborn on dragons, but that was what he was. Book Jacaerys was open-minded and - most important - he was confident and unapologetic about his look 🧑🏻. His thought process was basically: "Maybe I am bastard, maybe I am not - and so what? I will show you strength of actual bastards and you all will be sorry you ever underestimated both me and them!!! Dragons are gods and do not care, why do you people care?!" 🐲🐲🖤🖤🖤🖤. It is not good they changed this and made him elitist he was not, because they basically distroyed only male character who was example of healthy masculinity by taking away his agency and giving him Rhaenyra's flaws. I am wholeheartedly on Rhaenyra's side in Dance, but she was reported to be distrustful towards Dragonseeds and not treta them well, while Jacaerys endorsed their support.

Aemond is actually ruling pretty good he is getting rid of dead weight like his mother, aegon guards, preparing to lift the siege and is trying to trap daemon between two armies of lannisters and cole forces. Daemon continues to take L n idk how u see him as the GOAT. Rhaenyra in order to get the throne must make the most devastating sacrifice to the system itself. If all dragons can be claimed by anybody than the illusion of the Targaryen power and dynasty goes away n that itself destroys the monarchy to which rhaenyra and jace have their only power from. Every says rhaneyra is a good mother but she set her kids up for failure the minute they were born and now she s giving her son more competition for his claim to rule. The class system of the entire society of westeros will be gone thanks to rt actions that could future destroy the realm more than the civil war that is happening now. I get why Rhaenyra is doing what she is doing but the long game is in play n like usual Rt is not thinking about how this shakes the entirety of house targaryen. A great episode.

5:05 I just wanna sorta reference that the Targaryen supremacy arguement is sorta a fan based theory. GRRM has been pretty explicit in his lore and even in interviews that yea you do need Dragonlord blood to claim a Dragon. Also, I'm not sure why being on Driftmark would make you less likely to be a dragonseed? Considering Targs and Velaryons have intermarried often. We don't have an exact idea of who Corlys mother was or even who most of the maternal line leading up from Coryls are. There is a pretty significant chance once of those women could have been Targaryen. Also Nettles, was also from Driftmark too. And at least lore wise, every single Dragonseed has been stated to have Targ ancestry. In the books Alyn and Addam are thought to be Leanor's kids. I'm not sure why in show they changed that. But to back up the idea that Dragonlord blood is needed, this is what GRRM says when asked about Targ Incest; Ashaya: Let’s ask about a couple questions about Valyrians that I have here… did Valyrians from non dragon riding families practice incest as well? And did Valyrians other than Targaryens have dragon dreams, if you can answer either of those? George:" No, I don’t think they particularly would. I haven’t really thought about that. I reserve my right to change my mind, but no, I don’t think. There was a specific reason for the incest which was to uh, you know, I mean, obviously they don’t have… these are medieval people and ancient people." That certain Blood madges tied their bloodlines to Dragons thus = Dragonlords. He makes it pretty clear that, Dragonlords noticed that no one else could claim a dragon outside of them. Not even the average Valyrian thus them having no reason to practice Incest. Incest isn't really a Valyrian tradition, it's a Dragonlord Tradition. It would pretty much destroy all the logic and lore if actually anyone could claim a Dragon. Because, why else would Targs get Dragondreams, or inherit specific Dragon related magic abilities such as Dany who was fire proof? It doesn't make sense for the Targs to pushing that kind of propaganda... because if it were the case, why were they allowed to rule after the Dance? If the histories recorded that the Dragonseeds had no Targ ancestry, why wouldn't non targs attempt and succeed at claiming a dragon? And why would the realm then allow Targaryens to continue to claim ownership over the throne when their entire claim has been proved a lie? It's sort of like the whole Targaryen madness thing, in reality most Targs didn't go mad. And the ones that were bad or fucked up, usually had a trauma related incident that sparked it. Also... I might add that there are plenty of other Houses who had mad people. There is legitmately no evidence lore wise or from GRRM to suggest the Targs are lying that yes, you do need Dragonlord blood. It's only fans who claim it's Targaryen exceptionalism. But I think it's pretty clear from George that the connection between Targs and Dragons is quite literally blood related. The tapestries they have depict Targs having sex with Dragons. It's a literal idea, and it's likely to do with Blood magic. That doesn't mean Dragons don't have agency over who they let claim not nor does it mean every Targaryen will claim a dragon. But it does mean - that if it were all propaganda, why hasn't it been proven false yet? And what makes the Targs inherent abilities from Dragons, or the reason for the incest? As far as we know, no one rode dragons pre Dragonlords. And as George said, why else would they practice Incest so extensively if it weren't for a very real idea that as GRRM stated "no one else can do this but us."

When Rhaenyra slaps Lord Celtigar in the face.... was friggin chef's kiss... Lol I wouldn't normally endorse a ruler enacting violence on an "advisor" in a fit of rage, but the line "It is my fault, I think, that you've forgotten to fear me" just really kind of said it all. Yes she's been uncertain and reluctant to shed blood or go to full-blown war, but her counselors have been questioning and undermining her authority and capabilities at every chance. I think this moment was the turning point in the series, where we'll begin to see a more ruthless Rhaenyra, who asserts herself as a ruling Queen, and won't take bullshit from people anymore (for better or worse). Im excited to see where they take it, especially since we see her riding off by herself like a Boss when finds out Seasmoke has a new rider!

I ❤ the way you analyse the characters psychology and arc (even if your bro gay love theory comes from nothing). Can't wait for our patience to be rewarded by the birth of a "new Daemon". I think ser Alfred Broome complaining about Rhaenyra will show us a Daemon ready to defend his wife-Queen (the same way he couldn't stand Corlys to criticize his brother).

I would pair a Chateauneuf du pape with Meleys. They have a peppery finish that I believe would pair rather nicely with fire-made-flesh.

As for Baela, she would NOT be rightful heir if Rhaenys becom Queen. In show Laenor was older than Laena - making Jacaerys rightful heir from each family side. In book Rhaenys was to be Queen because she has no brothers, but her own daughter would still be behind Laenor - so unless Rhaenys changed the law, Baela would still not inherit, as Laenor's children would be before her.

Team Green, this was good filler episode that FINALLY develop the children of daemon and rhaenyra more. I still don’t understand y Alicent thinks she should be in charge during war times when all she wanted has been no violence and restraint. Team Black keeps taking L... they not won a single battle won, lost two dragons, vale doesn’t want to send their armies so far because rhaenyra gave them two baby dragons as a defense lol, daemon the great war general cannot muster an army because he thought by doing the same thing that he did in blood and cheese that got him kicked out of rhaenyra council was somehow a good idea to gain loyalty of an rmy……..without corlys blockade the blacks have nothing going for them so far. Looking forward to ur next deep dive for episode 6.

with the emphasis made about finding the dragonseeds, do you think they’ll include nettles in this season? i know consensus was they were omitting her from the show but as far as i know that was fan speculation.

Despite disagreements with some of your points, I must admit you made very good argument about people being shocked rather than happy about Meleys. It is very logical that they saw dragons - and their riders - as closer to gods, so Rhaeny's act was for them thing they couldn't really judge from their perspective.

As for Mysaria - I do not think her not being in Council is dure to her gender or lack of dragon, after all Rhaena was invited to council before sgoing to Vale. Mysaria is commoner - that why she has no place on council. It is not about gender or dragons, it's about class.

I have zero idea what you want from Rhaenyra's way with Rhaena. She was talking calmly and with compassione. What do you want from her? Better, tell me how YOU would talk to Rhaena. Because Rhaenyra did everything as she should. She explained Rhaena how thing stand, that boys are not sfae and someone has to go and watch over them. It's Rhaena who acted as spoiled brat, as if it was her stepmother faults that no dragons want Rhaena and her egg refused to hatch. It's no Rhaenyra fault and she was not mean about this. She explained to Rhaena how things stand and was honest with girl: 'I cannot promise to make you happy'. Rhaenyra knows it will be hard for Rhaena but it is hard also for the Queen herself - shedid not want to to send her boys away. Yet Rhaena comletely ignored her stepmother's suffering and focused on her own frustration. Rhaena is allow to have frustrations, but there is time and place for it - she is not 5, she is 14. Rhaenyra showed big trust to Rhaena by entrusting her with her sons, she showe how much she values her stepdaughter. If Rhaena decides to be whinny teenager about it, that is her own problem. NONE hates her - if anything SHE hates herself and thinks she is not much worthy, whereas Rhaenyra clearly thinks otherwise by making her guardian of her children..

Jacaerys find his mother's allies wherevere he goes - it's clear people do not care about his parentage. Fact that most Houses will support Rhaenyra shows it was never about bloodline. Aegon the Uncronwned was rightfil heir on every legal technicality, yet he lost power - truth is nobles cannot take away heir's rights to te crown. It's family matter, not nobles. Aegon Uncrowned was supplanted by Maegor, and Jace was supplanted by Aegon and the Greens. Yet if you would ask the Realm, they clearly chose Rhaenyra - and thus Jacaerys - as their rightful rulers. None can prove bloodline in this world. People goes with names.

Team Green is absolutely Team Misogyny. It does not mean that Team Black is Team Feminist, I agree, and Rhaenyra is not feminist in modern meaning of ths term (though her potential sucess might result in gradual strenghthing of women position in Westeros). Alicent in show might be driven by her own motives, but - in show at least - Team Green already planned to usurp Rhaneyra, solely because of Rhaenyra's gender. Erase Alicent out of picture and nothing changes - Greens are would still usrp rigthful Queen. Their Team IS Team Misogyny. On other side, Rhaenyra's people not always believes in her ways because she is woman, but they are still willing to accept her as their ruler despite her gender.

I’m not sure where you get this idea that Aemond & the brothel madame had any kind of meaningful relationship. She was his rapist. She was his sexual assaulter. There’s no love between them. He even explicitly says this when he stands up and says “one whore is as good as another”. He went to the brothel madame so that he could be vulnerable because the only time in his entire life where he was forced to be vulnerable was with her. It makes sense. He never wants his family to perceive him as weak and for Aemond, showing remorse or guilt or anything other than what he’s always been is a sign of weakness. I mean shit, we don’t even know if they necessarily fucked. There are tons of men who will literally pay prostitutes to just sit with them and let them vent. Also, Aemond doesn’t want to bang his mom lmao. After Storm’s End, he becomes deprived of her love & affection bc she’s furious with him, which is something he’s not used to. He’s never had to do MORE for his other’s love. He’s always been the favored son, and suddenly falling out of that favor has done a number on him.

I hate how they reduce mommy issues to weird kinks. I don't understand why the heck Aemond suddenly returned to that creepy ass brothel lady after whole 5 years of not seeing her. In 01 x09 he saw her for the first time since he was 13 and he was clearly shaken about it. But , for some unfathomable reason, they are now making her Aemond's secret girlfriend. I also wish Alicent didn't look like her daughter's younger sister. Rhaenys is allowed to look her age, but the showrunners are desperate to make her a sexy, desirable young woman and bend over backwards to make the audience forget she's a gradmother.

I agree with most of this but Aemond becoming regent would have happened even if Jaehaerys was alive bc regent means he is the ruler until Aegon is better or, if Aegon doesn’t make it, until Jaehaerys is 18.

I too loved the scene with Daemon and his “mom” for a multitude of reasons. For one, that is not how Alyssa would have looked, and this just adds to that idea that Daemon didn’t get to know his mom, so of course he imagined her in the most Targaryen-esque way. In fact, Alyssa didn’t really fit the Targaryen look, with her golden hair and heterochromia. It actually made me sympathize with Daemon in a way I never really have before. This man, however horrible, is chasing the experience he felt he never got, and I believe that is why he holds so tightly to his Targaryen superiority ideals, as a way to connect with the people he never got to know.

I never liked the idea of the prophesy because the whole point of the dance was that both sides of the war were shitty people who wanted the power and greed for the throne. The fact that the prophesy is given to rhaenyra just to make her the chosen one and she is fighting for the greater good. Team Green but R.I.P. my favorite live action female Targaryen Rhaenys The Queen Who Never Was......Even though that moment in episode 9 made her more evil than most of the green characters.
