    Once he gets used to the devise, he won’t even notice he is wearing it. So happy for this little guy. I think every child deserves to have as normal and happy a life that one could have.

    I'm glad he's better. Doc I didn't like how u tugged his hand when he had his arm up by his head and how u spoke. It does help but it does not cure it

    I have an urge to move my ears and my head, which makes it look like I am half smiling and my hair is moving up. Is it tics?

    I wonder how this boy is doing now that it’s been 7 years. I saw this video and I was completely shocked. I have suffered with a dislocated jaw and tics since I was little! I am now 50! I’m desperate for this if it works.

      Unfortunately, we cannot comment on the boy due to HIPAA reasons, but I can provide information. The University of Osaka in Japan did the study which lead us to that point. We are by treating the TMJ issues other problems seem to dissipate.

    What am I missing here? Are you saying tics are related to TMJ (temporomandibular joint)?
    What is the underlying theory as to how this treatment works for tic disorder?

    • @SleepTMJTherapyVienna
      @SleepTMJTherapyVienna  3 года назад +3

      Thank you for reaching out. We have found that when we are treating the disc displacement in the jaw joints, movement disorders such as tics, muscle spasms and chronic pain start to reduce. What we have found is that when we decompress the jaw joints, it reduces inflammation, gives the articular discs more room to move, the joint function improves and the central nervous system relaxes. We are not treating movement disorders, we are treating temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD). Our patients that have TMD as well as a movement disorder report they have reduced involuntary movements once the TMJs are treated.

      This treatment is called TMD/TMJ Appliance Therapy. This is a service / treatment plan that our office offers our patients to help with a large range of symptoms. The appliance used in this video is a lower modified splint. Feel free to email us at office@sleepandtmjtherapy.com if there is anything we can help you with. Have a great day!

    I don’t know if this is tics, but around und two years ago I started to twitch my eye and head quite often and it was uncontrollable and happened lots, but it was like, minor(?) Btw I’m fifteen and I was like 13 at the time. It went away for about a year but recently, I think I noticed a week ago? I started to make weird sounds with my throat every now and then tha I could not control, my eye and head twitched again, not as much as it used to but it happened every now and then, and I would like, look in random directions for no reason although I wasn’t trying to. Is it normal for it to happen? My mom tells me I’m fine in my sleep although I clear my throat often, but it starts again once I wake up. Could you please reply and tell me what this possibly could be? Thank you!

      Y Kim, thank you for reaching out to us. We do consider what you have explained as tics. Tics are brief, sudden movements or sounds. Many people have tics however, we would not consider this a normal human function. Your body is reacting to an underlying problem and in turn, your brain is telling your body to react, or "tic". It can become quite frustrating and confusing not having full control over your body. Some people don't mind their tics however, if you are trying to find the underlying problem and hoping to reduce or get rid of the tics, we can certainly help. Please have your mother reach out to us and we can set up an appointment via the web (tele-consult) to speak with you both about what is going on. You can email us at office@sleepandtmjtherapy.com or call us at 703-821-1103. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

      Sleep & TMJ Therapy thank you so much! I personally am not very comfortable with consultations (not sure why exactly) but i appreciate the offer! Can rica be triggered through past experience or stress buildup? I have very mentally unstable conditions and episodes every now and then (I’m bipolar, although there are surely worse cases than mine, definitely) and those were triggered through what happened in elem and mid school which was this mental bullying from peers at school, in different forms and I’m not sure if this is from that? If you could just let me know if this could be the cause, that would be lovely! I personally do not care if I’m alone but I’m super self conscious in public, and disorders where I’m from are kind of looked down at or brushed off 😔

      @@_yukixxkim3296 You are most welcome. We are so sorry to hear about your past trauma. In our experience, we have seen that tics can be triggered by stress, weather, smells and much more. In our office we find that tics are a cause of slipped discs and/or cranial distortions. If the jaw joints and cranial bones are not aligned, nerves can be pinched in the jaw joint area which sends signals in your brain to tic. In our office when we focus on conservatively treating the slipped articular discs and cranial distortions, the tics start reducing and the whole body functions more properly. With that said, we do not believe tics can be caused by past emotional experiences. However, if you already have a underlying problem such as slipped discs in the jaw joints causing inflammation and pinched nerves, stress can cause you to tic more.

      Sleep & TMJ Therapy ah, thank you so much! I’m over most of what happened in my past trauma, but I had a slight hunch that it could have been the cause. Although I’m unsure of what happened in the one year of very muted tics only to rise again recently, I think it could be certain triggers? I’m definitely not a specialist so I’ll leave the conclusions up to you or just stop at here. Thank you so much for teaching me the causes, however!

      Good morning, thank you for reaching out! Although we do not diagnose Tourette's Syndrome, the movements you are experiencing are common with those dealing with TMD or movement disorders. It may bring you relief to have someone evaluate your symptoms and get to the root of the problem.
