  • Does your child have a nervous habit like eye blinking, shoulder shrugging or a verbal tic? These common behaviors often are passing phases, but what if you notice the behavior lasting or getting worse? Akron Children's Hospital recently has been recognized as a 'center for excellence' by the Tourette Association of America largely due to the work of Dr. Katrina Lindsay.
Dr Lindsay helps children and families dealing with tics and Tourette Snydrome and she brought one of her patients, an inspiring young lady, to the Fox 8 studio to share her story.

That was for like a year or so, now I’m dealing more with head twitches, face movements and hand twitches. It doesn’t happen all the time, just randomly happens.

It sounds like you 100% have it. and that isn't a bad thing. it's just another little obstacle, but you can't be sure until you get it clarified. get it checked out by your doctor. You dont want to keep sitting on it for so long and not knowing. I'm glad I didn't. i got a diagnosis and learnt to accept it, whereas if i kept thinking on it, it may have been problematic for me and anything i would do in the future

@@historyhunter5215 thanks for this. We were watching a doc last night about a free solo climber. I noticed his grunting and arm tic go through the roof every time it became tense. It was an exciting doc, nerve wracking & his vocal grunts were non stop.
      Validated
      Many thanks!

She will probably be a great engineer! Us oddballs tend to be the smart ones. We have to be. Survival of the fittest still reigns true in a protected environment. By protective, I mean laws in place. This allows for growth, and it will hopefully be recognized some day. I have two special needs kids, and they are both smart and I teach them and show them so much. At school they are pushed into the next grade "undeserving" really, but they are just different and learn different. I thought our son how to play Monopoly at 6. I faired ok with the cookie cutter mold. Bs degree in business yet working fast food as a manager for so long, but now I've restarted at the bottom as a recruiter. Find what works for you! Learning is great. Make sure it is someone you can learn from or else you're wasting your time. Love life and people. Enjoy what you see. I've learned a lot I my last 35 years. Just want to pass on some positivity!

My goodness. I think the mom needs some therapy of her own and would benefit from reading communication books. The words she chooses are either outright or passively demeaning. No wonder her child is stressed.
She is somewhat egotistical as well.
Also... idk it doesn’t seem to give an example on how to mindfully and compassionately understand tics if you meet a stranger with them.
    Bizarre interview.
The mom’s body language is so uptight. It doesn’t mention how stresses at home are the cause of some tics. It doesn’t talk about medications that have sometimes helped tic disorder. There is no mention of yoga, meditation, or mindfulness. I’m so confused.

Also if the tables were turned and a white person told 3 black people they look like they could've came from the same family on live TV it would be an absolute outrage.

The presenter does not know how to listen to people. He is hasty . He cuts people's speech before they can finish their sentences.
