Thanks a ton. I have learned a lot thanks to your videos on the RM MT12. I was hoping you would show how to add an on/off switch using to bottom two add-on toggle switches. For such things as lights, speakers or a fan for the motor on rc cars. Kind of so you could shut them down to save battery life at certain times. Thanks so much if you can do this video or whether you can't. Your help so far has been invaluable.
I can try to make something like this, but if you wanted the answer today this is what you do: RUclips How to set up switch on EdgeTX. And you’ll see videos for the wrong radio, but they will have identical menus to the MT12. You just have to set up the switch you want to be the right channel in the *Mixer tab 🤙

You’re very good at tutorials for the MT12. Can you do a video on using the 3 position switch to modify the throttle output or maybe “modes”? Position 1 crawl. Position 2 med speed. Position 3. How to modify the end points for each switch position?

Hey Chadd. You mentioned headtracker/handtracker in the video. I have my mt12 set up with both. It was suprisingly easy. I connected it to the side dsc port and pointed channel 3 and 4 to Tr1 and Tr2 in edgetx. A better way would have been to connect to the aux/sbus port and pick sbus trainer in edgetx. But the option is not there under serial in the hardware page. My taranis and tx16s both have that option in the hardware page. Maybe in the next update of edgetx for this radio will have it.
@@Jarcademis The features on the MT12 are 10/10. But I like the interface on the RC8X more; it's a nicer system to make changes to a car on, ya know.. But MT12 does all the same stuff plus a lot more, it's just more complicated to use (which is why I made a 20+ minute video for it's review lol). I'd pick the MT12 personally (today), yup🤙

For sure! There are a lot of people that prefer “Air Remotes” like the Boxer even on RC Cars. I had a tough time getting the brakes to activate correctly when I used my Taranis back in the day, but I’m sure there is a video that explains how to set it up correctly 🤙
I have the RM Boxer that i use for my quads and a RM Pocket and i use both radios for my rc fpv cars. It didn't make sense for me to buy another radio, bad enough i have all the radios from all my rc cars. The boxer and pocket work as well as this radio would. On the quad radios, i have the steering on left gimbal and my throttle and brake is my right gimbal since it has the spring tention.

@@SmartContractHaxor Yes, i purchased a Radiomaster ELRS ER5C PWN receiver and i setup the left gimbal for steering and the right gimbal for throttle and brakes. Joshua Bardwell also just release a video on setting up the Radiomaster MT12 and i just follow his steps for the throttle trims and steering trims, the only difference is i used switches for both trims. This may be a little off topic from the video but what antenna do you recommend for a vtx. I'm running a fpv car analog with a foxeer reaper extreme vtx 2.5w(this vtx has one antenna port). I saw your other videos and saw on your car you use the Lumenier Double AXII 2 but those videos are a couple years old so I'm wondering if this is still one of the best options for long range. 16:00 my MT12 just arrived - it has no HELI tab at all. :) Firmware is (812f4e91) of 2023/10/28 next thing I'll try is to add that joystick to the camera pan, so it is no longer limited to steering input only…

Yes to both!! I linked a video from Joshua Bardwell in the description that goes over trims and he actually shows how to program to a switch better than I do. For learning the mixing on the radio I have a good trick: just search for “EdgeTX mixing tutorial”. There are dozens of radios that use the same operating system as the MT12 so it’s easy to get that info. I’ll try to make some more videos on things like this too!
Damn man that thing is complicated. It seems really familiar to the Boxer radio you recommended but for cars. Unless I'm missing something.. if I wanted to try it out I guess I can just module my crossfire to it, I'd just have to redo all the settings for each car. I was thinking about trying that with the boxer just to see if I could pull off driving with sticks but this looks way more reasonable. I really want that thing but I also don't understand it enough yet. 16 channel ground control though.. that's literally what I was asking for and they delivered.
you are correct, the boxer and the MT12 (and MANY others) run the EDGE-TX operating system. only small changes between them; like switch names and channel names :)
Hi, great review. Do you know how to take advantage of the trainer feature of the radio? I am trying to get my son into rc drifting and having this feature is great to have. Do we need to have two MT12s, or can the slave radio be another brand as long as it has a DSC port? I do have a Radiolink RC4GSv3 that I was hoping to use. Thanks.
A different brand with a DSC will totally work. The easiest way to learn how to set up the trainer function for the MT12 would be to search RUclips for “set up trainer function EdgeTX”. There will be plenty of videos showing different radios, but the menu will be identical and you can copy the set exactly 🤙
Hello! You can get to the subtrims by adjusting the values on page 7 of the model menu section. Just press MDL and then page > 6 times. Hope this info helps! 🤙
There are dozens of different receivers for ELRS because any company is allowed to make them. I know the RadioMaster ER8 and a few others say 4.5-8.4v right on the side though 🤙
hey chad i just recently bought the radiomaster mt12 elrs and i havent used it yet i only opened it and touched it and held it i am hesitant on if i should pull the trigger and keep it and start setting it up on my 6s kraton exb v2 newest all aluminum version but have some questions. ive considered the flysky noble or fs-gt5 or even other top brands like futaba or radio link. i have some very specific questions and would love to ask you is there a way we can communicate quickly and reliably?
@@quazarraynor1362 If you’re sure it’s a ER5C it should be ELRS. You should notice that the blink is different if you unplugged 3 times and then left it plugged in on the 4th plug in. It will flash a more rapid blink 👍
Yes! I put a link in the description for a Joshua Bardwell video that shows how to do this. He’s been making a lot of good content on the MT12 as well 🤙 Basically, you just go to mixes, choose a channel and edit it, go to source and select it (so it’s blinking) and then click the switch (trim, dial, etc) you want and you’re good!
Yup, you’ll need to bind additional receivers, always. Just follow the ‘power on, off, on, off, on, off, ON and leave its method until you’re more comfortable with ELRS and flashing firmware. It seems hard at first but that’s because everyone wants to show the hundreds of features ELRS has in their videos, instead of making it easy lol 🤙
I did update the ELRS fw to the latest, but I left EdgeTX to what came stock. Having more games is something can be changed without firmware (it’s just adding the game on the SD card) and the menu items that you don’t have were likely hidden by RadioMaster. I actually hid a bunch of them too later in the video (it’s an option in the system settings). Hope this helps!
@@flyingclint589 The cool thing about this radio is that it uses EdgeTX. So you can look up updating edgeTX and almost any video, of any radio that pops up, will work. The RadioMaster Boxer will be similar enough to follow along. Just use the correct “MT12 FW” and not the boxer fw (obviously lol). There will be a portion that goes over games, etc. 🤙
Yup! It can be paired with Crossfire nano modules super easily (no custom cable needed). It has ELRS built in so you wouldn’t need a Crossfire module, but it’s cool to have the option! The RC4GS with a Crossfire module is still a great option 👍

I was playing with mine and found the receiver kept shutting down with two car sized servo’s attached. Nothing silly, a 25kg and a 6kg. It did this with three new receivers but it worked fine with just one servo. Any ideas if it’s current capacity of the receivers thing ?
Oh man, you may be running into this super frustrating issue where the voltage sag (from the load of having two servos) is enough to brown out the processor. I thought the issue was resolved on the latest receivers though. Can you tell me more about the issue? I’m not super familiar with the metric you used for those servos. I’m used to seeing like “9gram servo” for smaller rigs or planes, so “25kg servo” seems absolutely massive lol. If I knew more about your setup there’s a good chance I can help 🤙
@@ChaddRainsFPV 25kg is something like 300oz/in. Ball park steering servo for most 1/8-1/7 surface vehicles. I am into speedrunning. Land speed record racing. So I set two servos up on a receiver on a tray with a life 2s pack at 6.4v for range testing. Moving both servo’s voltage dropped to around 6.1v on the telemetry and it browned out. Pull the power and plug it back in and it worked again. Elrs is exciting as we are currently strapping on wifi boosters between 2~8w ( won’t get away with that for ever ) and latency @2000ft is so bad you can easily shoot it off the road trying to turn it around. Current fastest speed achieved with a wheel driven electric rc car is around 222mph and they are weighing over 20lb and costing around $4k to build. So having 100% trust in the Radio is important. One problem with this video is at the 11:11 mark, you were talking about swapping CH1 and CH2 then out of nowhere you switch to CH3 for the demo completely ignoring the CH 1 to 2 swap. Sort of a disconnect there IMO.
Fair. I’ll try to catch details like that. The same process for changing ch3 can be used on other channels; just go to source and edit it, then move the wheel, throttle or switch you want that channel to be 🤙
@@adamhudson6812 If it really is the 4-in-1 then the ELRS Menu in tools will not work. They may have accidentally sent the ELRS receiver; as that will not work with the 4-in-1 either. You should be able use any FlySky, FrSky or Spektrum receiver, though.
If they want to keep selling it for that price, there's no way they can produce it in the USA or any other western industrial country. Even the expensive ones are probably all made in China.
Before you try to make an instructional video, learn how to use the radio!!!! You are completely out cycling in several parts. The JR connector on the side of the radio is NOT the "Servo Tester" and you will likely burn the radio if you try to use that output as that. The input menu has nothing at all to do with the channel order, it doesn't matter in which order the different names appear, they are just "names" for your knobs, buttons or steering wheel!

I'm interested in learning how you can add a head tracker for a gimble mounted camera for FPV. Is that something you plan on doing?

Hi, Chadd could show us how to bind mt12 to 5ch er5c. Er3ci binds with no problem but for some reason the 5 channel ones doesn’t want to bind.

One problem with this video is at the 11:11 mark, you were talking about swapping CH1 and CH2 then out of nowhere you switch to CH3 for the demo completely ignoring the CH 1 to 2 swap. Sort of a disconnect there IMO.
Fair. I’ll try to catch details like that. The same process for changing ch3 can be used on other channels; just go to source and edit it, then move the wheel, throttle or switch you want that channel to be 🤙
I can’t even get into the erls menu. Just freezes up and locks the remote.
You’re sure you have the ELRS version? Is this on the original fw still?
@@ChaddRainsFPV I think it’s the 4 in 1 but came with ELRS receiver as well. The other receiver will not power on at all.
@@adamhudson6812 If it really is the 4-in-1 then the ELRS Menu in tools will not work. They may have accidentally sent the ELRS receiver; as that will not work with the 4-in-1 either.
You should be able use any FlySky, FrSky or Spektrum receiver, though.

It’s a radio made in China (like most), but the development of EdgeTX and ELRS are done all over the world. It’s a true RC Community with this one 🤙
If they want to keep selling it for that price, there's no way they can produce it in the USA or any other western industrial country. Even the expensive ones are probably all made in China.

You are completely out cycling in several parts.
The JR connector on the side of the radio is NOT the "Servo Tester" and you will likely burn the radio if you try to use that output as that.
The input menu has nothing at all to do with the channel order, it doesn't matter in which order the different names appear, they are just "names" for your knobs, buttons or steering wheel!
