    go ahead and make more content please. TONS of things that we could dream up to program on this radio. lots of new surface guys have a huge amount to learn about edgetx. basic car things like setting sub-trim, maybe a 3 hour video on how to bind elrs, lol. mechanic adjustments to the radio, programming fun things with the extra button modules etc.

    You said something about timers. They're fantastic for fuel powered vehicles, especially boats where retrieveing an "out of fuel" boat is kind of a pain.

    Awesome on the "arm switch". Everytime I grab a ground RC thing, or even PWM fixed wings, I rant about them not having an "arm switch" to prevent accidental throttling.

    3:02 - Timers are used for more than just battery voltage. You might want to practice for a specific amount of time that correlates to the length of a normal race. You might want to check the temperature after a known time to see if gearing needs to change. You might want to use it as a rudimentary lap timing system. You might want to use it in the middle of the race so you know how much time is left in case you need to make a last ditch attempt to pass. You might not even have a battery, some vehicles are powered by fuel.

    I started a GitHub project to build an elrs surface radio last year. I have a couple 1:32 scale rc cars with cameras that have terrible range on the typical radio links. I used a pwm firmware for the rx, and am Arduino for the brains of the radio, along with a elrs jr module. It works great, when it pairs, bit out has trouble pairing and I'm not sure why. Regardless, the moment I got a notice that radio Master was putting out a surface radio I immediately put in a preorder.

Knowing what you know about the FPV side of EdgeTX, I really can't wait to see what you come up with. I'm gunning for the 4in1 myself, already have the ELRS Nano from my Jumper. Thanks for all the learning! Cheers! PS, Thanks for these amazing tid bits already. Saving this one for later...

    With cars you can just run the car until the car stops. Car esc‘s have a cutoff function (I know there are a very very few exceptions but not enough to be relevant).
    Timers are very very useful when practicing for racing and training for racing.
    I moved from fpv drones to racing rc cars a while ago (just couldn’t deal with people who yell at you for flying in the middle of nowhere anymore). Seeing you do a review like this was a very welcome sight

    Just came across your channel while looking for info on my Radiomaster MT12 4n1. Awesome job explaining the features and functions of the MT12. I ordered the ranger nano elrs module to have all protocols on one controller. I've never owned a Radiomaster edge tx elrs controller but I'm very excited to learn all about it. I've learned so much watching your videos on repeat while diving into the transmitter settings. I've quickly caught on how to create logical switches and special functions but I can't figure out how to add a cruise control on a dial. Using p1 or p2 as throttle cruise control would be awesome. Any ideas on how this can be done? Awesome videos new subscriber here 👊👊👍👍

    Great video as usual. Here are a couple of notes from a long-time surface guy who just switched over to the MT12.
    The Start/Stop timer is really for lap timing for the guys who are racing on a track. It's a pretty useful feature if you are practicing without a race timer system. The one issue is you really should have a way to reset the timer easily, too. That can easily be done by programming one of the other switches as a lap timer reset, but it would have been nice if that could have been set up by default.
    I've been using battery telemetry on my surface radios for years though FlySky Rx's. I just posted a short showing how I set up my low battery warning using my existing FlySky Rx telemetry. In cars, we usually set up our Low-Voltage cut-off at ~3.2 V/cell since we don't have to worry about our cars/trucks falling out of the sky when our batteries die. I set up my Low voltage warning at ~3.3V/cell to give me enough time to drive back to my "pit" area without worrying about having to do the walk-of-shame to go retrieve my rig.

    ordered it after you mentioning it for first time! was looking for one with ELRS for long time, as I've moded a ~20 years old RC car of a friend to ELRS and ESC and was controlling it with my old Taranis X9D plus with ELRS module.. but was missing the "intuitive" feel of common RC-car controller in my hand!
    thanks for covering the ground vehicles, I was missing such stuff, as I originally came from cars/boats and later on started with drones.

    Josh do you ever dable in LUA stuff? We could surely use a lua for anti lock braking and traction control (opposite to anti lock )
    You would need to control length of brake on travel and duration of that traveled length and it needs to have ajustble start points as well as a curve to control its intensity. This works stellar for 2wd stuff to control lockup in corners and such as well as 4wd nitro for cornering to increase your speed entering corners by having steering while braking hard.

    • @dr0n3droid
      @dr0n3droid Год назад +2

      Short answer is yes, you can do anything you've ever thought of doing with a radio. EdgeTx has a fairly steep learning curve, but the possibilities are endless.
      Press MDL, scroll to the model you want, select it. Only do that though if you have a custom throttle rate/expo that is model specific. A touchy throttle on one car for example.
      If your models are basically the same throttle/steer, bind them to the same model. If you power them at once, they'll both go. Probably don't do that in the race.

    • @slappomatthew
      @slappomatthew Год назад +2

      you can select different models with the model button. most of the settings are per model, although If you want them to be similar you can clone one model and edit it as needed for the next model so your programming is copied over. in the drone world (largely what this software was made for) you do a lot of setup for each model in the flight controller so you can have all your drones bound to one model setup and they are just all always active IE if you powered 2 drones at the same time the Tx would control both. this is less relevant in the surface world as you have different EPA and Trims for each model. but other than that most of the settings would be the same. so setup your first car ( model 1) and then when you goto setup model 2 you can copy it, name it model 2, setup your trims and bind and you are good to go.

    Im late to this... i know... the timer is important when practicing rc electric racing... in 1/10 offroad runs are usually between 5 and 7 mins. It is useful to have a timer to stop practice runs at the right time to check temps etc. Over gearing could work out for 6 mins although running hot but might catch fire at 9 mins...

    @NorgeSquad Год назад +1

    Only good reason for timers that I see is when you Race Nitro buggys and the timer let you know when to pit stop

      Also practicing so you can get the optimum mah for racing. Plus stopping at a certain voltage preserves the battery the best.

    I just want a radio that doesn't have brown outs !!!!!!! I've got two very expensive pile of parts that were two RC cars. Both did a full throttle rip across the parking lot head-on into a concrete curb

    If u want rc car guys say it's a stock slash, jump it and then convert it to a drag slash on elrs or jam a flight controller and beta flight. Car guys love the legacy protocols 😅😅😅😅

      maybe the max model will be color touch screen? this is afterall their first surface radio and its insanely good value. maybe the next model will be balls to the wall pimped out with color TS and billet everything.

    Only reason I won’t pick this up yet is because it doesn’t have three-way switches near the steering.

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  10 месяцев назад

      I'm not sure I understand the outcome that you're asking for? All receiver protocols will control multiple receivers if powered up at the same time. The answer is, don't plug jn 2 different cars at the same time of they are bound to the same controller.

    • @BigWillieFPV
      @BigWillieFPV 10 месяцев назад

      @@JoshuaBardwell yeah understand same as ghost, I thought maybe I hadn’t bound properly, in the setup I choose one car bound to receiver 01 and the other to 02 and thought they’d had some sort of model match, thanks for clearing that up. First time using elrs

    When those radios appeared before Haloween I was intruiged but as more as I watch reviews about it I have to say that I will probably never use one of those. For RC crawling its way to complicated .

      No its not, i literally got this for my furitek cayman pro with 4 wheel steering. I can set it to turn all 4 wheels with one switch that's linked to the steering, or flip another switch to turn it off and just use front steering or flip another switch to manually control the rear steering with the pot.
      There's no such thing as complicated if you wanna learn and try.
