    Locking one diff as opposed to both at the same time is usually used to get around tight obstacles. Locking the front around turns will pivot around and hold a tighter turn where as the back locked tends to push and create a wider turn. Having the front only locked going up steep inclines can also keep the vehicle planted where as the rear locked can cause it to flip over backward.

      @RCOverKill 10 месяцев назад +2

      I think you have that backwards when you lock the front diffs the wheels turn at exactly the same speed making it hard to turn, locking the back diffs have the same effect to a lessor degree. I pulled this from Google, Fully locked differentials are never used in front-wheel drive vehicles due to the negative effects on handling. They will suffer from severe understeer on early to mid-corner turn in. Torque steer can also be a problem, even on low throttle inputs.

    • @dstigs148
      @dstigs148 10 месяцев назад +2

      @@RCOverKill You are correct, when applying locked differentials to on road which you should not do anyways. However there are always exceptions to every rule. Google is not always correct. What you are refering to is on road normal driving situations. In that situation you should not have any differential locked, front or rear, except maybe the exception of snow and ice. The situation I described is not a typical daily driving situation. It is and off road or crawling situation.

    Unlocking the steering axle will help tighten turns. A lot of buggies w/4wheel steer use all types of combinations to cut in or out power to each of the 4tires independently

    Locking the front diff and not locking the rear diff allows for better turning in most situations. The front end is "pulled" around by both front tires, and having the rear unlocked helps this a lot. Locking just the rear diff and not locking the front diff would make the truck "push" through turns and not handle as well, but it could make it "drift" better on slick surfaces. The settings make sense for what the truck was intended for.

  • @gammagonad1657

    Again thanks for being one step ahead of me 👍🏻 Personally I want the ability to lock each differential independently, as some situations require to unlock the rear and basically drag it in sticky situations, where you need to only be pulling from the front. Usually in technical crawling problems. Hard for me to explain, you would just have to watch some “TRX4 technical rock crawling” videos to really understand. This definitely gets me 85% there though. Will maybe use SC or SB for the low and high, and the two position switches for my lockers, which will actually give the truck an ability that it doesn’t have from the factory. The ability to lock only the rear. I sooo dig this transmitter. It’s the main reason I have over 2Gs in RC cars now, when I haven’t owned one in 25 years(tons of quads though)

    Thanks for the video...used it as a base and tweaked it a little. I used the two add on switches for the front and rear diff locks. That way you can have all combinations. I then took SD, which is the 3 position switch under the wheel and changed it to be a 2 position switch. I was able to use it as the two speed selector switch. This setup works awesome!!!

    The land enthusiasts are very different than your air enthusiasts. There’s a lot of RCs abuse, trash talking, and egos in the land community. You’ll see. Lol. But thanks for these land videos with this radio. I’m just getting used to the programability of the Dumbo DDF-350 and then heard about this Radiomaster. I ordered the 4in1 and the Ranger module separately because I bought it more so for the multi model storing. I have a lot of Dumbo receivers and it’s great that this radio binds with them. I’m also about to setup my first fpv vehicle as soon as all the equipment delivers. I subbed!

      That's what I do, Bardwell is behind the times with his setup because I've been driving FPV for years now and using the phone to change setup is so much easier to do than messing with the Radio master he has and I forget how many models in memory the Traxxas radio has with the link but it is a lot and the Traxxas radio has built in battery and radio link telemetry

      The BT module is way too expensive and firmware updates take ages. Also I'm not a fan of needing my phone to access the car's programming or accessing telemetry. The Traxxas radios aren't bad, don't get me wrong, but only if you take it as it is. If Traxxas doesn't provides a certain feature you're out of luck.

    Missed opportunity to show how to program in cruise control (locking throttle with a button, but also using brake to cancel, and the knob to fine tune cruise speed, and ALSO the trigger to momentarily increase cruise speed). It took me a while but I got to use global variables, a bunch of different logical switches and special functions, the “add after” mixer functions, I learned so much. I’m a nerd like JB so for me it was just fun to think about how I would use the available functions to solve a complex problem.

    Tires turn it different speeds on an axle as you go around a corner. When you lock the diff, it makes both tires spin exactly the same speed, even when going around a corner which can make you hop and not turn as tightly. Same goes for the back, your outer tire on a turn is always spinning faster than your turning tire

  • @713Ace529
    @713Ace529 10 месяцев назад

    Sdtig148 explained it correctly. Just imagine when a race car takes off the front nose lifts up so is you lock the front diff only on your rc then the back wheel won’t pull the front nose more away from what the front tires are trying to grab friction from. You be pulling yourself up not pushing. Great Vid Joshua. Hope you open a whole new viewers. This is something new the ground rc is looking into. 👍

    Few things holding me back from putting any of my traxxas vehicles on the TM12 missing from this video, I’ll definitely be putting my other cars on the TM12.
    1. Do you lose TSM (stability management) the multifunction knob next to the steering knob?
    2. I’m guessing you’ll lose the ability to update your esc and change the settings with no traxxas Bluetooth link? Not the end of the world tho
    3. Is there a way to get the speed motor temp telemetry working without the traxxas Bluetooth link?
    Also you need to recalibrate the esc using a new TX you may lose resolution on throttle/steering, important step should be mentioned (hey whys my car so slow now 😂)
    Great vid for swapping your car over to the TM12, not sure it’s worth losing traxxas system just yet, TSM would be great to get that working and would almost be enough for me, motor temp and speed be great but I bet most don’t use the BT link anyway, can always update esc before you swap over.

    Just an observation. The model template you are using is still using the default and incorrect channel order of Throttle on Ch1 and Steering on Ch2 (10:00 in this video) but when moving the plugs across to the new ELRS RX you state that you follow the Traxxas order which puts Steering in Ch1 and Throttle in Ch2. There is no way that will work and is bound to cause confusion for those new to EdgeTX and this radio. This has the potential to get even more confusing when more complicated mixes are developed as some users (like me) will have amended the channel order at the outset and some won't. Other content creators will add to the confusion as some will have the correct channel order and others won't. Perhaps we need a caveat at the start of each video stating the channel order used?

    I just purchased the Radiomaster MT12 surface radio. I’m trying to create a “launch control” function (for drag racing). I need to be able to adjust throttle percentage and the time it takes to clear that range, i.e. 0-30% throttle in .5 second.
    I would like to be able to create multiple stages like this, i.e. 0-30% in .5sec, 30-45% in .2sec, etc. I would like to have multiple stages (at least 8 possibly more).
    I would like to be able to toggle the stages off and on the fly i.e 2 stage launch or 8 stage launch or any option in between.
    I would also be looking to adjust the throttle percentage and stage time on the fly i.e. 0-30% in .5sec to 0-35% in .45sec on the fly.
    For ease of use I would like the maximum level of the previous stage to control the minimum level of the next stage, i.e. a 5% increase in stage 1 from 0-30% to 0-35% would make the minimum of stage 2 go from 30-45% to 35-45%.
    I got this radio because I love to tinker. I’m totally new to edgeTX but I’m excited to figure out how to utilize the software. I am not looking for someone to do all the hard work for me, just point me in the right direction.
    This would be like the seed control function in the Futaba 7PXR
    TIA

      I came to the comments to say the very same thing. The micro servos for diff lock and 2-speed can easily burn out if proper endpoints aren't set. While it might LOOK like they are set correctly, endpoints still need to be adjusted to verify that everything is adjusted correctly.
      Also, centering the steering servo needs to be done as well as setting steering endpoints. You can destroy the CVDs and or burn out the servo if the endpoints are set too far out.

    Hey Joshua👋🏻 Im looking forward to get the Getfpv DIY Kit freestyle Drone Kit from you for my birthday and i wanted to buy the NewBee Toolkit. Should i get a “better” Soldering iron or something like that or do i have everything i need in that Kit? And do NewBee Drone and GetFPV ship to Europe?

      Honestly, the soldering iron in the NBD toolkit is ok. I think you can get done what you need to get done. As for shipping, you will have to ask the individual company what their policy is.

    Great RM have made a surface radio, there’s two choices elrs or the 4in1 which one do you choose? I run ghost in my air crafts and obviously if your going to fpv your car which not many will do is there really an advantage going elrs or would the 4in 1 be better seen as it binds to a lot of rtr cars available? Pros n cons?

    • @funeralatpizzahut
      @funeralatpizzahut 10 месяцев назад +1

      With the 4 in 1 You would be stuck with whatever channels are on the existing receivers so you wouldn’t be able to take advantage of all the extra switches and capabilities of Edge TX. IMO the elrs version is the one to get because of the extra channels

    joshua i have a traxxas 6533 rx in my high trail blazer. can i leave the rx the same and bind to my 4 in 1 module? that way i could still keep the traxxas pro light kit that plugs into the traxxas rx. i understand the diffs and hi and low gears but the light kit has a different harness that the 6533 rx accepts. i dont mind changing rxs as along as i can get lights to work also

    Hey I have a question related to ELRS, would it be possible to turn a old transmitter into a sort of relay for boosting RSSI when flying/driving long distances or deep penetration in a building for filming purposes? I have seen something similar done for the Red Bull video but it wasn't really covered how they did it.

    hey joshua. great videos. i am thinking of buying the mt12 but dont know which version. i have about 4 different vehicles now and want to get them on 1 radio qnd they have different rxs. i also want to use the eslr rxs for future vehicles. i was thinking of getting the 4 in 1 radio and adding the external elsr module. that would give me the best of both worlds i think.what are your thoughts?

    • @JoshuaBardwell

      Yes it would, but you would want to verify before you bought the 4-in-1 that the 4-in-1 can bind to your receivers.

    No concerns about the weirdo Channel 5 thing that ELRS does? I moved my second diff to Channel 6 and then in the ELRS settings had the receiver output channel 6 on pin 5. That way I could leave channel 5 high, which supposedly brings the ELRS module to full features?

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  10 месяцев назад +1

      Frankly, unless you are using dynamic power, that option shouldn't matter too much for surface vehicles. So just set output power static and be done. But the workaround you described is the correct one.

      Since the software was written for aircraft including drones, I understand the protocol labeled Traxxas is for the Traxxas drone radios. I have heard that the "43" protocol will work with Traxxas surface receivers. Traxxas states there is no limit tot he number of models a TQi transmitter can bind. My goal is to use my MT12 to bind to Traxxas, Futaba, and Radiomaster receivers.@@swissfreek
