If they played it in November it would definitely sell out fast, as it's a sporting event dead zone over here after the Melbourne Cup before Test Cricket starts. The time zones would just be a reverse of what the NRL did in Las Vegas. Day game local time broadcast at night over there.
4:08 There are two problems with this 1. The date makes it coincide with the NRL Finals, it would be a problem if say South Sydney was hosting a finals games on that Saturday. 2. The Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961, which prevents games being broadcast in America between Mid September to Mid December from 6pm Friday to the end of Saturday if a TV Station is within 75 Miles of a High School Football Game or a College Football Game which during both days is basically the entire US.
Fly the teams to Hawaii early in the week, then into Sydney a couple days later. Cuts it down to two shorter flights. Definitely would make it easier on the way in, but definitely would recommend a bye week following the game..
The NFL have an overseas marketing plan where some teams get greater rights to broadcasts and merch sales and especially advertising based on location, and the Rams are zoned to Aus and NZ, so they'd almost certainly play. Time wise I'd imagine they'd give Aus a 12:00 or 12:30 Sydney time kickoff, which is just about as early as the pros kick off in the US and play a Sunday Night double header like they enjoy doing in the early weeks
MCG . Is smart , cause 100k people there , would be unbelievable to see played there , or even Adelaide with the way the spectators noise echoes & makes it feel like 100k .
3:18 15 usc 1293 makes it illegal to play pro football in America on Friday or Saturday. High school and college football are actually legally insulated from encroaching NFL fixtures.
I'm an American living in Sydney. Id go and watch a game in a heartbeat. But I'm not sure how popular it would be outside of a one-off spectacle for the average Aussie.
Bring it on! My preference would be for the game to be at the Olympic Stadium in Sydney as it's a proper rectangular stadium but I know the NFL will probably have the game at the MCG as it has the largest capacity, and is "newer" than the Olympic Stadium in Sydney.
Think it would be better at SFS / Allianz.. pure rectangle stadium and still 45+K capacity. Agree West Coast teams. Say in September a 12noon kickoff on Sat in Sydney would be 7pm East coast and 10pm West coast on the Fri.. or alternatively Sun/ Sat.
Allianz would clash with tenants already there and the field would need more work, accor stadium field would work better with retractable seating and better availability, however I do see your point.
Agree. Sydney has the international cache the NFL is after. I think Suncorp would be a good option; it's a little bit bigger and great to watch from, but Brisbane doesn't have the same appeal as Sydney. "pure rectangle stadium and still 45+K capacity." People forget that Accor is a hybrid stadium, it does nothing well. It's one of the worst stadiums I've watched sport in The seating they bring in onto the field sits really low with crap views. And the standard seats feel like you are a mile from the action. On top of that, it's in a terrible location. The only stadium that would be worse should this event go ahead would be the MCG. "Fri" In the US, Friday is for high school sports, and Saturday is for college. NFL is on Thursday night, Sunday, or Monday night.
If they hold it at 12pm or 12:15pm they can hold it on a Saturday here and it be a friday night 8pm game on the east coast USA. Needs to be at Suncorp Brisbane, Accor Sydney, Allianz Sydney, MCG Melbourne or Marvel Melbourne to be an east coast Aus game. As much as I'd love AAMI Park, the capacity is too small
This wouldn’t be the first time we had an NFL game in Aus. I went to San Diego vs Denver at Stadium Australia in 1999. Was a pre-season game. Crowd was 74K. I’d prefer it at Allianz, but Accor (Stadium Australia) would sell out you’d think.
For the travel issue, make it a split first round Friday night us time would be the Australian game. Sunday lunch a Brazilian game. Monday night a Japanese game. Then the following week, the rest of the teams play as per usual and all,the teams who traveled have a week off. Come week 3 resume normal scheduling.
I have a feeling the NFL will push the Super Bowl back another week so it can't clash with Valentine's Day, and maybe piggyback off of the President's Day holiday in mid-Feb, so they'd definitely be bargained into an extra bye week to make that happen. France feels like the next logical step and I'd imagine Japan or even China would get games to test out crossing the international date line first
They intentionally try to keep two weeks between the super bowl and Daytona 500, as they are two of the three biggest single day events on US TV. Daytona is mid feb and can’t realistically be pushed back. NASCAR race every weekend for 40 ish weekends in the year
@@CappySeventyOne Is there a reason for that? But also, NASCAR is losing popularity faster than pretty much any sport I'm aware of so I doubt it'd be in the NFL's way that much in the future
Be interesting to see this go ahead through if the game is in September you clash with AFL and NRL Finals, It would have to be teams in the Pacific time zone of which there are 5 teams those being the LA Chargers, LA Rams, San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks and Las Vegas Raiders out of those 5 the Raiders and Seahawks are the most popular in Australia through I could see the 49ers being open to playing in Aus if it means one less early season home game
I've looked at who the LA Rams (who currently hold marketing rights in Australia) are scheduled to play at home against in 2026: Arizona Cardinals (maybe) Dallas Cowboys (might be too far) Kansas City Chiefs (won't happen if Mahomes, Kelce and Co. are still there - they'd be too big a draw to take outside the US) Los Angeles Chargers (no way known the NFL would have an all-LA game in AUS) New York Giants (definitely too far away) San Francisco 49ers (won't happen, as they're the Rams biggest rivals) Seattle Seahawks (maybe, especially if Michael Dickson is still with them) The last home opponent is TBA, but it will be a team from the NFC North division, for whom a trip to Aus would be about the same distance as Dallas, so that would rule them out. So my guess: The Rams hosting either the Seahawks or Cardinals at Accor.
Sucks the Rams have the marketing rights as no one gives a shit about the Rams in Aus most here are Seahawks, Raiders, Chiefs or Eagles Supporters New Zealand is also all Raiders
They will cost an arm and a leg, most likely be played in Sydney, my guess is one of the teams will be the Raiders as while we suck, they have a lot of support in both Australia and New Zealand
I honestly think the sport is one of the most boring “high octane” sports out there but it would be massive win for Melbourne or Sydney. Logic would say Sydney get the game but Melbourne has a knack for getting these big sporting events so if an Aus game goes ahead it will be really interesting to see where it goes. I think if an American sport is going to have success with the Australian general public in Aus it would be an NBA game being played here, but that would be almost impossible with the way they fixture it.
It would not be the 1st time that a North American League played a regular season in Australia which was an MLB series between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks at the SCG in 2014 which got about 38K in attendance
First of all, Americans are not obsessed with Australia and especially after the shit y’all pulled during the Olympics. yeah we just tolerate the Aussies, but I do look forward to the games in Australia
If the seahawks play a game in sydney i will sell my kidney to go but fuck the probowl amd there stupid flag football and skill based games i wont go to that
I think the games will be well attended by Aussie, especially if one of the teams has an Aussie punter playing on their side.
If they played it in November it would definitely sell out fast, as it's a sporting event dead zone over here after the Melbourne Cup before Test Cricket starts.
The time zones would just be a reverse of what the NRL did in Las Vegas. Day game local time broadcast at night over there.
I was about to write this 💯 agree with it
I feel like they'll end up having a multi year deal so we might see sydney, melbourne, perth/brisbane/adelaide with games.
What about Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, given the NFL academy on the Gold Coast….

Suncorp would probably be a good stadium to play at as there's a fair amount of NFL fans here in Brisbane
Probably not big enough
