No issue with new Highmark not having a roof. The main reason those intense snow games get postponed is due to the hazardous travel conditions, not the playing surface. Putting a dome up wouldn't change anything.

I'm glad they added a little shield up there so less wind can come into the bowl and just go over it. And a great additions of those heaters as well. Still have the home field advantage of the open arena while the fans can be more comfortable lol even if only a little bit more.

the reason why the teams get public funding is because the teams aren’t the only ones benefiting from the stadiums. A new state of the art stadium brings in tons of money for the cities and boost the local economy in a big way. not to mention a fancy new stadium pretty much guarantees the city will host a super bowl, which is the holy grail of tourism in america. Owners should definitely be picking up most of the tab, but i see no reason why the cities can’t pitch in a little since they’re gonna be reaping the benefits.

The huge difference between Cleveland desperate to replace their stadium and Pittsburgh being happy to keep their old stadium is that Pittsburgh isn't on a Great Lake...the lake effect snow and wind conditions is something Pittsburgh doesnt have to deal with. The annoyance of normal midwest winter conditions is clicked up a thousand percent along the lakefront of Lake Erie (or Michigan)... i was raised in Canton, Ohio, where we got the lower part of the lake effect blizzards...a dozen miles south of us got a foot of snow, Akron/Canton got 2-4 feet, Cleveland got 5-8 feet along the lake. It's a real thing and compounds teams like Buffalo, Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, and Green Bay...with the teams on the east end of the lakes much worse off than those on the west side of the Lakes. But the Lakes create their own issues no other teams have to deal with. It can take hours to get the snowfall that elsewhere takes days to achieve in the midwest/mideast.

That Jets stadium was voted on by the NFL owners to host Super Bowl XLIV (which ended up being the one the Saints won). The vote was of course conditional that they build that stadium. After a couple of years and nothing started, they NFL threw in the towel and relocated the game. Instead of a revote, the owners to just give it the second place finsher. And that's how Miami got to host just three years after the previous host. In fact, giving them XLIV may have happened before XLI was played. As we all know, the NFL ended up voting to give NY Super Bowl XLVIII. Despite it being outside in cold weather. I guess the NFL was really disappointed in not having a NY Super Bowl that they removed the indoor requirement at least that one time.

The obvious reason for all of this is finally becoming transparent. Special events! Nissan Stadium, Browns Stadium, Arrowhead, the dome in St. Louis (and more) were totally fine; or could have been renovated for $300m or less. However, the old model for stadiums became obsolete once So-Fi was built. The new model is week-long special events and that requires a dome, plus development around the stadium.

The Jets and Giants are 50/50 owners in MetLife stadium. Both teams have the same ability to opt out, but if one team chooses to opt out, it locks the other team into remaining in the stadium for the rest of the lease. As others have mentioned, the site the Jets contemplated in the 2000's had no space for parking/tailgating, and has been partially developed and turned into Hudson Yards. There isn't the space there for a modern football stadium anymore, much less what was originally envisioned 20 years ago. And I have no clue where else they could go.

Well maybe the Jets and Giants could move out on Long Island, or north of the city -- at least that way they'd once again be New YORK teams (instead of New JERSEY teams). Nowadays, considering how much money you gotta spend to attend a sporting event, my primary concern is BEING COMFORTABLE!!

"Your not going to leave the stadium after just 20 years"
Yet how many of these stadiums are only about 30 years old. Especially those built in the 90s which are among the more decrepit like Carolina and Jacksonville and other florida stadiums.
Despite how old constructions last longer due to lacking modern advents, Seems that the life expectancy of a stadium is about 30 years.
As for cold weather I think more northern teams should opt for overhangs over domes. You only really need to protect the stands from snow accumulation. The field can easily be cleaned with machines, but the stands are far more delicate and require more man power. Worrying about "hosting other events" should not be the concern. Cause not every city justifies having a superbowl hosting arena cause those "other events" dont come with as much frequency or size to justify an oversized domed stadium project.

Not only does that give you the option to leave it open for the cities that like the elements, but it also eliminates having to postpone or cancel games due to lighting in the area and also gives them the ability to host a super bowl. As a fan of Washington, to add to the current situation. They might be changing their name again. But may have found a location. They plan on building at the RFK sight. The wizards and capitals are moving to VA and congress gave RFK rights to DC. So that seems to be the likely situation for Washington. It’s a lot of real estate, so they have room to build a huge complex.

The new titans stadium on the outside looks like a top golf.
Steelers won't get a new stadium, there is nothing wrong with their current one. they aren't trying to get a Superbowl or anything like that. It'll probably end up getting a mild renovation within the next 5 or 10 years.
I honestly don't see anything wrong with Cleveland's stadium either. They just had a pretty big renovation done to it 8 years ago and now they want a new stadium for what reason, to host 1 Superbowl? Seems like a complete waste of tax payers money.

Idk how I feel about that KC rendering. Looked kinda weird. Their already going to start renovations on arrowhead starting this year, 2024-2026 for the World Cup. With royals getting a new stadium there is a chance the chiefs get a sliding/retractable roof on like rails. That’s what the very first idea was for arrowhead way back before it was built. Arrowhead is the third oldest stadium in the NFL and it has never hosted a Super Bowl. The only way I see them hosting one is to have a retractable roof.

Quick thing about the Bills and "It seems like one game a year is being postponed"... there are no hotels within walking distance of the site, so a roof would do _nothing_ to fix that. They would _prefer_ people in the stands but let's be honest, 2020 proved they don't need them completely... but still, seriously, you need at least both teams, the officials and at least one cameraman to make it to the stadium. So that's not a factor, and they had to figure out if there's anything that would be worth a roof otherwise. Not enough hotels for a Super Bowl, it's warm enough in April for WrestleMania (and you _know_ they're never getting anything bigger than a SummerSlam anyway), what else is there? And they're building the stadium as its own windbreak anyway, which, truth be told, was the most brutal part of that game in December I was at.

"It does seem like a Bills game is being postponed at least once a year" This is a statement that obviously you do zero research on. Since 2000 only 3 games have been affected by weather in Buffalo. 2014 their game against the Jets was moved to Detroit. In 2022 they played the Browns and the game was again moved to Detroit (they actually played the Lions in Detroit 4 days later on Thanksgiving). This year was the only game actually postponed when they played the Steelers in the Wild Card Round. Do winter storms happen? Of course they do. But playing in the snow and other elements should be apart of the game.
