Confused about your point about joirnalists from london, as manchesyer is a major ciry with bbc and ITV at salford quays, channel 4 in leeds, the north is massive hub for media talent. Train from London is 2Hr, 30 mins from Euston to Picadilly
In regards to if they thought about announcing sq42 at the gala they would have seriously made a mistake, the gala needs to be about paying for access to celebrities, developers and having a good conversation in an intimate setting in my eyes. Similar to how people have to pay to meet people at comic con.
I was thinking the same I would say its as big a Media City as London and if it wasnt they would just fly London to Manchester
i think the idea was supposed to be something for the concierge players to be in a small event and get to talk one on one with eachother and maybe some from cig. I think they didnt sell enough tickets for the event. But they might run a gala event at another date or have the talks they planned to have during t he gala during the main event.

They had t sold the gala tickets yet, and CitCon itself is almost at capacity for the conference centre which earlier I. The week CIG had declared there were around 100 available tickets before capacity was reached.

I'm not sure what insider info that people have but the idea that they'd get big name actors to a gala event still seemed fanciful to me. An appearance on stage 'maybe' but anything else is asking a lot.

I was thinking much the same: Most or all of the Sq. 404 celebrity actors refused to come or initially agreed, then pulled out. Or, CIG changed _their_ mind when they got the bill from the celebs.

I think that there is a LOT of speculation about the gala, the assumed release of Sq 42, celebrities, etc. Like 2 or 3 levels of speculation upon speculation. That level of hopium is dangerous for your mental well being
Well the thing is why else would they have a gala. Galas are not a typical videogame event thing. Its more of a traditional celebrity event thing and if it is about that and we know that Chris is well connected to celebs then it would make sense to invite celebrities who worked in SQ42 there and if they are going to hold a gala for SQ42 then what else would they talk about aside from the release date. I doubt that it would be a Star Citizen event since even though the release of 4.0 is a big thing I just dont think its big enough to warrant a gala.

Sure speculation but given I am fairly certain Sandi had started planning for a Manchester Gala 6 months ago, when I’d inquired about plans for 2024 was told there will be a small gathering in Manchester. Sure I built the hype based on the text announcement and other snippets of information, but I don’t think it was/is overly excessive.

Hmmm.... Yeah not sure the Gala is that important, as the SQ42 release date would surely be on announced on the first main day for all the backers to enjoy ?
I believe the gala was envisaged as a small gathering of likely 100 backers, since that is a figure that allows you to effectively mingle with all attendees. I am certain that the idea was first put forward during g the earliest planning for 2024 CitCon, and as a celebration. Now who the plan ed special guest were- was pure speculation on my part, as was whether it was effectively a launch party. But I digress, I do t know the reasons it was cancelled, several come to mind. Rather than wail that the ‘sky is falling’, something I did consider with regard to S42’s release- which the gala seemed indicate was imminent, we decided to look at the positive reasons why we could see the cancellation of the gala as a good thing. Sorry I’m rambling, so I’ll stop.
All I want, is to see Algared up in that stage, he is a legendary backer at this point 😆 it must happen 😆

Theres a huge presumption that the release would be at the gala rather than at the main event - hard to see why they would have done that anyway. As one of the people travelling to Citizencon for the first time its a definite disappointment that the gala is cancelled AFTER they've sold almost every ticket. As much as I'm a fan of player run events they're a big step down from an official event with plenty of game devs to talk to.
The very concept of a gala was surreal to me. Not like women played this game, are all concierges supposed to hire workers to make them company?

Not unplayable but the playability did drastically decline with 3.23. I crash more than ever, ship storage slashed and what is remaining is glitched, containers do not work. Master modes destroyed navigation, the new map is pretty but rarely works and when it does work the results are inconsistent. But it's alpha and that's what alpha is for, trying new things, breaking the game, then fixing it and hopefully coming out ahead.
