Tanya Brown so when Celine Dion did the new version, she should be given a medal for courage and humility. Celine did not come close to the wonder of Cyndi’s Voice!
We all saw the clip. Cyndi was the first person to say it was her jewellery that was interfering with the sound and they all told her no, they made her redo her part over and over before saying yes it was her jewellery. So how was SHE a pain to work with?
She was the only one out of tone, she made it at the end, i think they werent so serious when they say she was a pain, i think they are joking, but people try to make it like it was a big deal
Yeah, people that pile on Cyndi need to re-visit the clips of that sequence of the song. The only artists that routinely nail their part every take (for that section of the song) are Kenny Loggins, Steve Perry and Michael Jackson.
@J T Akinola Huey wasn't supposed to be there to begin with! Prince was supposed to show up in his place but I have no idea what happened and somehow Huey took his place +he also said he was nervous af due to being in the same room with 2 of the people that really influenced him musically: Bob Dylan and Ray Charles! (Was a Ray Charles fanatic when he was younger).
I just love how polite she is. She aswers the question looking straight at the camera, as if she was looking in the eyes of the guy that made the question.
I saw the clip of Cyndi recording the song with other artists. Everyone in the studio think she is a pain and also a joke, but guess what, her voice overpowered everyone else, that's my first impression when I heard the song first time back in 80's. I am really honest because I am not a fan of hers but I have to say she absolutely killed it, her voice is all I can remember from this song.
I wasn’t “a fan of the girl,” either, but 2 months ago, I clicked on a report with Cyndi and started watching her clips. Since then, I have discovered another masterpiece every day. Everything sung was a miracle. She was a huge singer, with a fantastic individuality, and as she got older she became a more and more beautiful woman. She became a beautiful WOMAN at the age of 40-50!
Except for Steve Perry! He literally raised his hand to get everyone’s attention just to say how amazing Cyndi’s voice is and how it brought together the whole bridge
Cyndi's part on "We are the World" kept the song from being "one note". They absolutely needed her for the bridge. It's hard to see the bridge working if she hadn't added the "yeah, yeah, yeah" part.
Quincy Jones is a liar. A lot of the artists complained about the song. I remember Billy Joel saying something. Here it is: "Most of us who were there didn't like the song, but nobody would say so. I think Cyndi Lauper leaned over to me and said, 'It sounds like a Pepsi commercial.' And I didn't disagree."
Okay, but did any of them (aside from Cyndi's manager) tell Quincy they didn't like the song? I doubt he was lying, he probably didn't know there were others who didn't like it.
There's no way it never got to him. There's no way he was never told about the others' complaints years later when they admitted it in interviews. Just like how Cyndi knew about this one (Quincy's interview). Because word goes around.
I watched all the behind the scenes videos and she was a TOTAL sweetheart. Yes, her necklaces were a little problem, and she was 100% gracious we could not have been cooler.
Even in the takes where her jewelry is on, it's barely noticable. And that microphone *was* dying. You can really hear the destortion on the final take. Quincy Jones seems to have a habbit of talking bad about artist's he's worked with in the past.
Cyndi added a vibe to we are the world that none other could, she did it perfectly. I watched their gruelling a.m stunt and pulling it off was not an easy feat, for all of them....but yeah, Cyndi nailed her part. Perfectly.
She added so much to that song. I couldn't imagine it without her. The song was great for what it was. A song the whole world could sing. It was catchy and you'll never forget it.
Yes she added so much depth and style in this song, same for Dylan, Ray Charles, Springsteen. With only technically "clean" singers that Quincy loved, like Michael Jackson, Kenny Loggins, James Ingram it would have sounded like a random Coca Cola song.
There were two huge moments in the song: Cindy with her delightful energy and beautiful voice and the part when Bruce sings with Steve Wonder. They absolutely rocked!
Absolutely. I hope whoever thought of the awesome idea of putting Bruce and Stevie Wonder together for a duet got a nice raise. To me, Cyndi, Huey Lewis, Steve Perry, and Bruce Springsteen were the best parts of the song.
The whole session was recorded -- it's on RUclips. She wasn't being difficult. They were all making the best of an all night marathon session (right after an awards show) where they all were working it out on the fly. Sure the beads/jewelry was an issue but it was easily remedied.
I loved her part in the song. Once she nailed the part, she got into it that she wanted to keep going but caught herself. Overall, she was so sweet in genuine.
Got to meet her by chance at a DFW radio station in the early 2000's. I was there to fill in for a dating game contestant that backed out at the last minute. She was in the green room and was very down to earth & kind. Always spoken highly of her since then. Amazing how much one encounter can influence one's opinion of another person.

Huey Lewis was horrible if you watch the making of video. He couldn't sing his last note on pitch. He finally got it on the last take. MJ was looking at him with disdain. Cyndi's part is the highlight of the whole thing.
Cyndi is iconic and so is her voice. So amazingly unique. I did hear a rumor that she also didn't like the Good Enough song that I guess was altered to fit as the theme to Goonies. It's not my favorite track of hers but it's a fun song nonetheless and is iconic in its own right.
Love her NY accent lol. She seems very genuine & sweet. Also love that she bought Mariah Carey a song journal that ended up being where Mariah wrote the lyrics to her best-selling album Music Box 💜
John Denver had done more to save the world than any other artist at that point in history, but he wasn't invited to participate. He was invited to sing at Farm Aid, so hopefully that made him feel better, but that was a festival, not a song. He was sad about being left out of We Are the World.
I was 19 years old when that Music Video came out on MTv and it was broadcasted in other tv channels. It was a big event. It was successful because everybody watched it. I loved the song. All the singers who were popular at that time had a singing part in it. I loved Kenny Rogers. I had a man crush on that guy. But Cyndi’s part was my favorite. Everytime I heard her voice on that song I would get a lump in my throat. I would get emotional. Her voice had that aching sound. She did a great job.
While reading the comments, i recalled the video where Huey, Cyndy and Kim were singing or doing their part of the song, and other singers telling Cyndi that she was doing it great. If you listen carefully on this video herein, she´s saying she didn´t wanted to do it (Sound) better than Kim or to sing so high that her voice (Kim´s) sounded way too low. On the recording video if you noticed, they were like trying to take the song to the right level of interaction of the three, like having a conversation, that´s why they told Cyndi: look, on the last part you have to get in the middle, and that´s when she did the "'Yeah, yeah, yeah, YEAH!'" part, to me, one of the best part of the song among many others
She answered the questions so honestly but also with an understanding of other people's points of view. Quincy Jones likes to work with highly trained musicians and didn't appreciate that naturally talented people like Lauper and The Beatles had strengths and weaknesses.
Out of all the soloists in We are the World, Lauper absolutely got up and flat out crushed that solo. You can hear and feel her entire heart and soul. ❤️ ❤
They asked her to come up with her part and she did. It’s not like they had it written out for her already. They are lucky she is brilliant. As for the jewelry, there were so many open microphones, it could have been anybody. Watching the documentary, personally I didn’t even hear any clanking or disruption. She said she was sorry about the jewelry and removed it, “problem” solved. What about all the people holding lyric sheets to remember ONE LINE? Now count how many people in the room holding the papers, which are usually held on stands so they don’t make noise. Bob Dylan really had a hard time getting his part down, but he is a male and also “Bob Dylan”, so no problem there I guess. Women always get the short end of the stick. Way to go, Cyndi. Pay no attention, you are a professional all the way. All water under the bridge in 2021. And people are still starving. So many donations. Can’t say we didn’t try to make it a better world.
She explains it well years later in hindsight of the song’s complete success but let’s remember what she did DURING the moment. She initially told Quincy she wasn’t coming after the AMA’s because here boyfriend thought the song wasn’t very good. He had to convince her to still come. Then during the chorus recording she complained to those around her it sounded like a Pepsi commercial. Now you also need to remember she refused to sing girls just want to have fun when her manager brought her the song. Only after some convincing did she record it. So the moral of the story is that Cindi became successful not because of HER musical choices but the insistence of those around her. She had great talent, thank God she had those around her to guide her.
I'm glad she was herself. There are many in that room who were pain in the assess. Her uniqueness was needed for a song about all of us. She, Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles were awesome. Steve Perry made awesome look so easy too.
Went to Cindi's concert at the Hollywood Bowl a few years ago. First, she nailed all her classic songs perfectly. Second, singing barefoot, she got a bee sting on her foot midway into the show and just carried on. No attitude. No ego.Just a total delight and sweetheart on stage. What a talent.
They had to get no-less than Celine Dion for her part in the "We are the world for Haiti" version. Quincy Jones needed to get that out of Cyndi, but it was bordering on disrespectful though. Everybody was annoyed but recording takes time, you can't rush a good thing. Kudos Cyndy Lauper! You're my icon. Yours, Stevie, Bruce Sprinsteen and Ray Charles parts were the most passionate of all in that song.
We are the world was such an important music compistion in music history. To heal the world through music & bring most of the iconic singers together for worldly cause is so amazing & that energy needs to continue in 2024. It's also not horrible to admit that the song is just OK & i don't hate the song but i also don't blame people for dislking it lol
I have been a fan of Miss Lauper's ever since she first debuted in 83. I adore her even more now since i've seen The Greatest Night in Pop and this little snippet as well.
Some people make fun of her performance in "We are the world" and i think that is unfortunate, while she isn't exactly a technical singer who possess a strong pipe if you will, i think as an artist and performer she is more legit than most pop singers we have today, if we look at a perspective that Cyndi as a caucasian singer who has limitation compared to the most singers at that time (esp black singers with superior voice, pipe, technique etc) could join the ranks of that many superstars and legends, she's gotta have something unique to offer, the same can also be said for Bob Dylan or Huey Lewis
Cyndi seemed like the most difficult part to record but the result was perfect…and yes now Iconic as it was one of the most memorable part of the song. Can I just say that Cydi seems to really age gracefully?

Cyndi is iconic and so is her voice. So amazingly unique. I did hear a rumor that she also didn't like the Good Enough song that I guess was altered to fit as the theme to Goonies. It's not my favorite track of hers but it's a fun song nonetheless and is iconic in its own right.
Love her NY accent lol. She seems very genuine & sweet. Also love that she bought Mariah Carey a song journal that ended up being where Mariah wrote the lyrics to her best-selling album Music Box 💜
Cindy was so cute in the filming of the video! I agree, Cindy's solo was my favorite!
God bless you! I watched the documentary and you were one of the few people that did not have an ego problem! You were great!
In a room filled with legends, Cyndi and Bruce stole the show.
I love her. She's beautiful ❤️
Cyndi is still so pretty! 😍
She looks absolutely amazing.
Im 43 but I wouldnt say no to date her.
She is so cute.
A legend giving praise to the uber legendary Merry Clayton. A titan of a vocalist. Cyndi a true original with soul humility and authenticity
The fact that she addressed the Richard Pryor question first shows what genuine and kind person she is in real life.
Seemed odd they even asked her the Pryor question...
Gotta love old Rod, thought he was reaching over to put his hand on her shoulder in support, but nah, it was that martini glass
Cyndi Lauper rocks! She killed her solo in We Are the World
If it wasn't for Cyndi Lauper's part, nobody would even remember "We Are The World" today!
This is how Christina Aguilera will look when she turns 60.
if she removes her face fillers though
@@graysang5386 You don't remove fillers, they dissolve with time.
Valerie Cherish you can dissolve fillers also. With a thing Called hyalase
@@Jespher1 True.
Aguilera is a goregous girl, however if she was fat and on a messy styling, she kinda look like her which is not bad as well.
CYNDI is untouchable!
Like or not, her performance in that song was exceptional. I can't imagine the song without Cyndi
That bridge with Cyndi, Kim and Huey is the song highlight.
Saw Lionel Richie sing We Are the World live and it was awesome.
Cyndi has an incredible range. Her voice is awesome.
Out of all the soloists in We are the World, Lauper absolutely got up and flat out crushed that solo. You can hear and feel her entire heart and soul. ❤️ ❤
She didn't and thats ok.
did u not hear stevie ray and mike 😕
Cyndi Lauper has a very strong, beautiful, unique voice & her part on that song is MONUMENTALLY AWESOME!!!👏🏽
Cindy is lovely and was very diplomatic .
I'm glad she was herself. There are many in that room who were pain in the assess. Her uniqueness was needed for a song about all of us. She, Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles were awesome. Steve Perry made awesome look so easy too.
steve perry always made awesome look so easy!
She looks SOOO GOOOD!
Cindy always has an insightful intelligent thought process. What a classy compassionate STAR
She's right in that Feed the World was a better song.
Do they Know it's Christmas? (1984). That's a much better song.
Ente de ficción no
Yes.
What feed the world? Mayne you mean do they know its christmas?
It's HEED not FEED lol.
these are my 2 favorite singers, quite insane to see them side by side 🤩
Uma artista completa incansável um ícone da música mundial Cyndi Lauper 😍😎.
I just loved that solo
We always wait for that part of the song!
I love Cyndi’s talking voice. She sounds so cute and innocent. Makes me want to give her a big hug.
1:39 Loving her New York accent!
Hey, Andy, Cyndi's talking. Shhhhh.
Cindy Lauper is a down to earth gal....imo
"Im here! Look i'll take a drink. See?" 😂 Rod
Cyndi seemed like the most difficult part to record but the result was perfect…and yes now Iconic as it was one of the most memorable part of the song. Can I just say that Cydi seems to really age gracefully?
