No one could sing her part in We are the world. It is simply the best part of the song. However, I agree that Madonna should have also been a part of it.
Lionel Richie who helped put the thing together has already said they all regret not asking Madonna. That was the one biggest regret. Madonna wasn’t quite at super stardom yet. No one suspected she’d last. So they’re all basically kicking themselves. I don’t know that Lionel Richie said Madonna instead of Cyndi Lauper. He just said they regret not asking Madonna and that it was a big mistake and they hope she can forgive them.
Everyone should be on this song, they were all in LA. Those stars simply felt that she’s not good enough for them, Madonna felt really bad about it, it was just rude to exclude her. It’s irony how Madonna proved them wrong & got in the end bigger career than most of them.
It was a quickly put together event. People make mistakes. Madonna just did her life. It wasn't worth "proving" anything. She had sold 15 million albums by the time the song was released.
Lionel did NOT say they should have chosen Madonna over Cyndi. He said they should have asked Madonna to do the song. Talk about twisting someone’s words. Honestly, though, what else is he supposed to say??? Madonna simply would not have had a solo part with that bunch of best-in-the-biz vocalists. She would be have relegated to the choir, which STILL had killer singers in it.
I understand what you’re saying, but as Madonna is the biggest selling female singer in the world to this day, I’d argue that her voice, however you characterize it in comparison to the best-in biz vocalists you mention, is also worthy of the same. Besides, did you sit through the entire sessions of Huey’s, Bob Dylan’s and Cyndi’s vocal takes? They’re all great artists in their own right, but there were some real duds in there.
"Great voices" and everyone out of tune, rehearsing the same 5 second segment 30 times because they couldn't do it right (Cyndi Lauper the worst of all), everyone's singing was totally horrible. Madonna could have participated perfectly. Stop complimenting everyone. Madonna is the only one who continues in her career, and with great success. RESPECT.
There’s literally nothing in this song thats Madonna voice wouldn’t comprehend, she literally sings many hardest songs in her career. You people are simply disrespectful or now nothing about Madonnas career.
Ok Madonna die-hards, I love me some Madonna too. Got all the albums. Great artist. she’s not a singer’s singer. There are many pop artists just like this and that’s ok. That was an elite bunch in the solo spots. Cyndi being one of them. Just because they all had to work on their parts (that they just got that night, btw) doesn’t make them “duds.” The final product turned out great.
Uhhh not at all! Watch Evita. The girl can sing and has always been able to sing that way. Cyndi's point is that they both should have been allowed to sing.
This is a one in a lifetime artist. She is so unique and talented. We won't see anyone like her in a while. Truly an Icon and love her constant message of being who you are without worrying about what others think of you! You do You! Love me some Cyn! She is FIRE!
I feel that when I was a kid a lot of pop singers weren't known for their amazing vocal talents but more for the individuality of their sound, there were amazing vocal talents of course, but I don't think the general public was as judgemental about singing technicalities as they are in this post American Idol world.

@@vision-gc4hy it was Jacko's Producer...but what did he know..he produced the same old thing for Jacko over and over.
Regardless, she's still not a good influence basically.
Why is there nonstop music playing in the background?
An icon being interviewed by some douche bag no one will ever remember
Cyndi is so beautiful in every way, she lives her best life and I admire her.
Well, Madonna is good enough for Annie Lennox nonetheless. And their voices sounds nice together.
I love Cyndi's vibe - just a big kid :) and I'm obsessed with her accent 😂 I feel like she should constantly be yelling at cars in New York :)
Did Andy have a stroke?! He can’t speak english anymore..
He high AF😂😂
I was wondering…never seen this show before and thought maybe speaking a weird version of English was part of his shtick 😂
Cohen is really hungover in this video 😂
Wow. She looks really good for her age. ❤
Cyndi praising Madonna all the time:🎉
Madonna: 😐
Madonna is a performer, she can't sing. She only sounds good in the studio. I assume they wanted raw good talent. And Cyndi can sing!
Madonna is not a very strong singer. She has/had very limited range.
Cyndi is aging well; unlike Madonna that is acting like a 16 year old with an identity crisis.
MADONNA HAS A GOOD VOICE. CINDY JUST SCREAMS LOUDER.
Uhhh not at all! Watch Evita. The girl can sing and has always been able to sing that way. Cyndi's point is that they both should have been allowed to sing.
I just had the honor of seeing Cyndi perform this evening at the Fox Theatre in Detroit Michigan. She was fantastic.
This is great!!!!! ❤
Gosh, why does Madonna have to seemingly steal somebody's spotlight even when she wasn't present? Cyndi did an unforgettable performance.
Madonna wasn’t asking the damn question 😂
@taintedlife2618 She doesn't need to ask the damn question, she's got everybody asking it for her.
@@richalderson6069 it's Madonna's world you're just a guest on it. GET USED IT. it's been almost half a century like that.
But can we talk about Cyndi and Paris in the same room?! Iconic!
Cindy look gorgeous
This is a one in a lifetime artist. She is so unique and talented. We won't see anyone like her in a while. Truly an Icon and love her constant message of being who you are without worrying about what others think of you! You do You! Love me some Cyn! She is FIRE!
It would have made the song and video much more iconic if Madonna was also a part of it
I feel that when I was a kid a lot of pop singers weren't known for their amazing vocal talents but more for the individuality of their sound, there were amazing vocal talents of course, but I don't think the general public was as judgemental about singing technicalities as they are in this post American Idol world.
Cyndi is sheer talent, Madonna is a celebrity.
Madonna has written songs more iconic than Cyndy's entire short lasting career
Why are u being rude. Both of these women support eachother lol
@@onedudethelegend just stated a fact
@@jjdonnabangbut writing songs doesn’t make you a talented vocalist. It makes
You a talented writer.
@@phillycheese90 being a vocalist doesn’t make u a musician. Madonna is a multi instrumentalist, a songwriter a music producer aside from being a dancer and performer. not to mention her vocals obliterates Cyndi’s, just watch her magnificent 91 Oscar performance. Cyndi sounds like a cat trapped inside a suitcase on fire
LOVE her - she’s incredible I grew up to her music. One of the coolest 71 year olds around ❤ hell, one of the coolest people whatever age!
I prefer Cyndi Lauper over Madonna. She’s more down-to-earth and sincere than Madonna, who is often vain and mean.
Agree, 100%!
