Robert Funke I didn’t know that - I know Keith Richards is a huge fan - I’m a king bee - buzzing round your hive - we can make honey baby - just let me come inside - love this song thanks man
....if you get a chance and what's no better than the tube for Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush live with King Bee. You will be buzzing around that hive for a spell.
This is nearly as good as his classics; the razor-sharp harp cuts so much cleaner and finer than the absurd, silly modern posers who think playing five notes a second makes you a "bluesman." And, of course, live, he's playing both guitar and harp. Even the fade-off after 3:58 has precise little gems of richness.
Or Sonny Terry, or Sonny Boy #1 I don't get it either. Swamp blues and harp are foundational to Blues. This guy is one of those building blocks. No question he should be in house with ALL these guys. Hippy Song is pure gold...love it. Hypocrisy he knows his stuff on and off the harp.
I pray to God to give you a lot of beautiful days and you know God loves us so much,So where are you originally from? I am David originally from Spain Granada but living in Texas and you?

+djwaxthegroove & davidratcliffe1 - The story I heard, which is also in Wikipedia's bio of Keith, states that Andrew Loog Oldham, their manager in the early days, thot dropping the 's' from his last name would make it look more "pop." That's the extent of that 'sin.'
Back when Slim Harpo recorded this song and when Orlaons recorded South Street, "hippy" had a different meaning than what it came to mean in late 1960s. ☺
CM H ~> Slim Harpo died in January 1970 at age 46. Although a recording of this song may've been issued possibly after his death I've been unable to find any info on when the song was actually 1st written or copyrighted. That 1970 album may've been a collection of Slim Harpo songs from years earlier but to avoid further argument I'll concede at this time. ☺

Slim Harpo was truly underrated. He was a musical genius.
what is exactly a musical genius

All kneel and give homage to the true fathers of rock and roll.

We are living, in 2024, with the results of hippies. Terd disturbers.
This is the stuff we need! Absolutely love this song.
The songs great and everything but can we give a shout out for this cool photo? Slick hair, styling suit, and rocking the horn rims. Slim Harpo y'all!
Heard this just at the right time in 1966. Just when I was going through that. Slim was in his late thirties. Very hip Slim. Right on.
This is a damn fine song! Well done! True lyrics! In a word - SOLID !!
*sing it Slim!!!! Now THAT"S a righteous blues song & about hippies makes it ALL the more primo!
*Pink Floyd's founder Syd Barrett* Made on his first band performance a Slim Harpo cover from another song called "I'm the King bee."

This was after the Stones debut. I don't know when this is from but hippie counterculture emerged after the formation of the Rolling Stones.

If you like this song check out his earlier stuff such as Hip Shake or Scratch My Back. You don't get the full Slim Harpo sound on this one.
paul harris Furthermore, listen to Got Love if you Want It and I'm a King Bee. Those songs represent the original Slim Harpo sound.
I agree this is his pop song to me - I uploaded it because it was the only song missing on RUclips at the time and the lyrics are great 👍
totally amazing, rocked my world tonight folks i love this man to bits if i could marry him i would
Truly a harmonica master, even though not mentioned in the company of Little Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson, Big Walter or other heavyweights.
I would add the great Alan "the blind owl " Wilson. Top 3 harmonica players in my books. Truly genius!
young stevie wonder!

I don't get it either. Love this guy and Jimmy Reed....the real deal No Question with his own swamp style.
Right, this is as close to Jimmy Reed as Slim ever got.. love it !! 😍
great tone....Slim tone is the tops.
And now we have rhymers who scream unitelligible words to a mindless crowd of grey boys and girtls in the audience.
Awesome!
This guy had a fabulous sound both harmonica and guitar. Too bad he died so early. He would have had many more hits.
Love Slim Harpo
Being Slim Harpo makes you bad, love him !

That album was not a compilation- it was being recorded when he died. It was recorded in 1969 and 1970. You can look it up- Slim Harpo Knew the Blues.
Michael E ~> Still we don't know when that song, although recorded for a 1969-1970 album, eas originally written. ☺
