Great ideas, however, I do suggest u get most availale materials from homedepot, you already get more than enough good tools to built up a cabinet as a pro, you only need to pick up very little from ikea so you could cut you cost at least 50% off.
Absolutely FABULOUS. By far my favorite closet. You have great taste. I hope to buy a home this summer. Your closet will be my inspiration. Thanks for taking the time to film and share your ideas.
By far one of my favorite makeover, u guys did an amazing job 👏 👏 love the fabric idea, which makes it look more elegant. I would have covered the backing with fabric, but im sure someone commented. But truly beautiful 😍 tyfs u might have inspired me to do mine after home is built ❤❤ winter project 😂
Absolutely love the fabric idea! I have waited over 2 years for the items I wanted to be restocked. Finally ordered it and I am stealing the fabric idea!
I like the idea of customizing the back of the boxes for decor. I think I would have still used the proposed backing and wrapped it for a much more stable finish.
Yep agree, something we noticed once we added the fabric was the lack of lateral support! We knew it was going to be screwed together so we didn't but in hindsight could have just added the backing for a little more support! Thanks!
Thank you so much. Thats our little cutie Bougie haha The lights are from Amazon. Company called Govee, really like their product. It was the 16.4foot lengths we purchased x2. GL with yours!
You did a great job, and the video was helpful, but I just installed a Pax system on one small wall of my closet that cost me $800. I think the “$1000 budget” in the picture for the video was a bit misleading since there is no way you did this all for that much. I would guess its more around the $2,000 range?
Thank you! Yes you are correct :) I was going to blur out the budget costs but couldn't find a way to do it on canva. The bill at Ikea for us was around $2,200 CDN ($1600 USD) (This was also close to 2 years ago). However this included the wooden shelves that we eventually replaced with glass (more money). The cost also doesn't include things like; Handles, crown molding, baseboards, LED lights, the fabric backing, mirrors, chandelier (we reused) or all the trim work. Hope yours turned out awesome!
Thank you! Good question. This was harder to do since we swapped fabric in for the hard backing. It was different per side, However each side, once I secured the 4 cabinets together was pretty solid and don't think would tip on its own. However, both bases were glued to the 2x4 frames which were secured to the walls on the floor. The left side had a bulk head so I had glued and wedged a spare 1x5 piece of wood between the top of the cabinet and the bulk head. This ensured there was no way it could tip. I also added side spacers to stop the cabinet from swaying from side to side. This was also secured to the wall. The right side had no bulk head but I screwed and glued wood on top of the cabinet and secured it to the wall direct to the studs. Also added spacers to each side the cabinets to stop the side to side motion. You might be able to see some of that when I release the LED video I am working on. Thanks!
Amazing to hear! You love to see yours when done! The face trim was just me walking around home depot and lowes with a tape measure trying to find something slightly less wide than the 2 cabinet ends put together and rounded on the edges. very simple trim and tucked right under our crown. GL!
When you were placing the cabinets on the base frame did you do anything to secure one cabinet to the adjacent one? Are they just set next to each other, or are they secured to each other?
How did you secure the wood blocks you put in the side edge gaps between the closet frame and wall before adding the trim? Did you use nails through the closet frame into the wood blocks? Or secure the wood blocks to the wall some other way?
Hi, Mostly pressure and a little glue. Just needed to stop the back and forth movement, and really could have gotten away without any if it wasn't for the trim i was adding. Tried to avoid screwing the visible side of the cabinet. GL!
Yes sir. I cut that portion out of the video as it was too long to make the original video, I will post another video with how I installed them.. but spoiler alert: they were the Govee white LED, 16.4ft dimmable 6500k Day light off Amazon. Had to buy 2 and soldered the 2 sections/halfs together. GL!
Given your carpentry skills and shop setup, I am curious about how the price of the IKEA system compares to what you could build yourself. I have a similar IKEA closet and once you add in all of the goodies it’s hardly a bargain. Then again - I didn’t get an estimate for a custom closet company to build a closet system for me. What are your thoughts?
Yes definitely doable, just would have taken me twice as long. Ikea just had finished drawings, shelves, rods, inserts etc. We just wanted something in faster but definitely doable from scratch. There are a lot of jigs now that can do the same thing if you have the time and patience to do it... maybe next closet we will try from scratch ;)
It was around 22-3/4" ish but I would recommend you build out one of your cabinets and test fit before securing the base and make adjustments before gluing and screwing. GL!
For real did you not put the original backing ti the cabinets and left it just with this canvas? I don't see any other diagonals either - this has to be the flimsiest closet ever made :O
Yea I think the fabric might be more sturdy then the original backing from ikea lol. Once they were screwed together it was solid. I didn't show it in the video but was also glued and screwed to the side and back walls from top. Can see some of it in the LED video. Thanks
Hiya, we used the flappy backing to get the fabric measurements. Standard fabric roll for us was 58" from our local fabric shop, just measured the height on the cabinet and added a couple inches for good measure and off cuts. we bought WAY more than we needed but can use them on pillows or something lol GL!
hi , i want to do it but would need some help . Its a good DIY . Would you suggest doing this at a home and you think pax would last for a long time ? How can i reach you for more questions ?
Hi, You can always send me an email and I can answer any questions you may have, I would say at minimum you need to own / be comfortable with a drill, miter saw & nail gun! You can do it!
Quick update: The only part of the closet I own is where I left my utility knife, she has the rest 😂.
what are the dimensions of the closet?
Don’t think anyone is surprised 😂
Probably not 😂 I also want to say that you have some serious skills ! 👍🏼
Great ideas, however, I do suggest u get most availale materials from homedepot, you already get more than enough good tools to built up a cabinet as a pro, you only need to pick up very little from ikea so you could cut you cost at least 50% off.
@@ghj1986 Just need some confidence ha ha. One day I will get there!
I love the back of the cabinets!! I've seen them lines with wallpaper and contact paper, but never fabric. An awesome idea!
Beautifully done! Congratulations, it is professionally finished.
Thank you ☺
Well one, it looks amazing. I’m glad the supervisor approved 👍🏻😉
Thanks for sharing the video, it looks beautiful! ...I'd probably put the led strips in a diffused channel though.

BTW gorgeous closet! Thank you for sharing this project!
Amazing job! Wonderful.
Thank you!
Wow stunning❤
Thank you! 😊
Very good video, best part you gave the code numbers of the items so it’s easy to note down rather than searching in ikea and get exhausted.
Thanks I tried to find the originals but only had those! Glad it helped!
Wow. This is Amazing! 👏
Thank you!
Ummmm the dog stole the show but this is by far my favorite closet! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!
Now, the LED lights! Where did you buy them? Thanks
Thank you so much.

Great job, very inspirational

Nice job. 😎
Fantastic job! Does the closet make you want to get dressed up and GO somewhere?
Where did you purchase the mirror? Great make over ❤❤
Lovely!! What are your closet dimensions and your pax dimensions?
Thank you! Room is 11.5' x 7' wide. The large ones on the outside are 100cm, the smaller ones on the inside are 75cm.
Wow! Fantastic!
Thank you!
Beautiful
Very nice. I would put in a more ornate mirror than the basic one installed.
Will let my decorating manager know ha ha.
Ty :)
You’ll did a great job! How did you install the lighting?
Thank you! I have another video on the channel about it =]
It’s gorgeous. I absolutely love what you did or is it she did?
Thank you so much! She designed it all 🙂. I just got to play with my tools.🙃

Thanks! The small ones Ikea sells, the larger ones (1cm) from Amazon!
GL!
Great job!
Can you tell me where you got your trim?
Thank you!
The crown and the baseboard was Lowes, everything else was Home Depot.
Gorgeous ❤
Thank you! 😊
What type and size face trim did you use? Thanks for this video. We are working on ours now since being inspired by yours.

Hello, what are the dimensions of the room?
Specifically the width? Looks amazing, thank you.
Thank you!
The closet is 11.5' x 7'
Really gorgeous what’s the height of the closet?
Ty! 8 foot 3 inches to the top of the crown, the room itself has 9 foot ceilings.
like it ..very nice ..
Where did you purchase the crown?
Lowes!
When you were placing the cabinets on the base frame did you do anything to secure one cabinet to the adjacent one? Are they just set next to each other, or are they secured to each other?
I made another video of securing them to each other with Chicago bolts. Yes they are secured to one another and also up to to the wall.
Amazing Job, What is the length and width of your closet?
Thank you!
The closet is 11.5 x 7'
9' ceilings
I, love your closet. What’s the height?
@@debraglenn3611 The finished heigh for out closet with the elevated baseboard and crown was 99" (8 foot 3 inches). Thank you for the kind words!

Did you not put doors on? Those lights would look great behind the glass doors.
Doors would be awesome! but the space is too narrow for doors, maybe next house !

Could you provide a link to the chandlier you got for the closet ?
Hi, It was actually upcycled and refinished, wasnt purchased new!
What size did you make the base for it to be flush.
It was around 22-3/4" ish but I would recommend you build out one of your cabinets and test fit before securing the base and make adjustments before gluing and screwing. GL!

I had that fluffy thing on my mic, maybe that didn't help! Will remove it next time!
It is most likely from the volume, the fluffy thing usually works. Who knows? LOL@@xacresestate
