  • Many espresso machines have pressurized portafilter baskets, like Breville, Delonghi, Starbucks or Saeco. They can get clogged and not allow coffee to flow through. This video shows a way to clean the baskets using oven cleaner or drain cleaner. These cleaners use sodium hydroxide, a powerful cleaner, which will dissolve coffee residue. Be careful when using these cleaners which can burn skin and irritate lungs - wear rubber gloves, use outside if possible and use eye protection.

I followed you advice but since à I didn’t want to wait overnight I sprayed the filter with oven cleaner and put it right back to it’s place. Worked instantly. I rinsed it then filled the tank with vinegar and water and let the whole tank go trough. Worked perfectly.

Managed to clean mine with boiling the basket in a solution of fresh water, course salt and vinegar ( about 1/3rd vinegar and 2/3rds water) boil for 20 min and does the same job, without toxic chemicals

It’s easier to just tap out the pressed cap gently with a hammer or mallet upside down, the little cap pops out and you can just rinse it out and press it back in 👍🏻
