Love a green truck, very nice truck. I'd throw a little something in it myself. Once you get used to having some volume lol it's hard to ride without it. Had my green 95Z since it was new. Not stock. 4 15's lol I remember those days gold letter kicker 15's on a zed colossus. Looking very forward to seeing this build happen 👍🤞
Love the truck Joe I got Baltic birch from home Depot several several months back two sheets I used one up on my last box and I'm getting ready to use my last piece up on a new box and you are absolutely correct man very fine wood with no gaps in it My two sheets had absolutely no gaps
@stereomojo what I have is 4x8 and has 6 layers. Birch. Not 100% it's Baltic. They also had some sheets of red oak around the same price. How do you think it would do?
@ yeah, that sounds like regular Birch. Which is still nice, but Baltic birch is like 11 or 13 layers. It’s even nicer. That’s the stuff that comes from Russia in a 5’ by 5’ sheet. I’ll send you a close up pic on messenger of what 3/4” Baltic birch looks like. We’re using regular birch for this new build.
Personally, I wouldn't aim the port at the hatch. You're just going to beat it up. I'd extend the box all the way to the rear and have the port firing up. You'll be able to reduce the height slightly.
The reason your existing box is flexing is just due to no cross bracing. The side panels probably don't flex much, but the other four will. Some simple dowel rods glued into place makes a noticeable difference.
I'm surprised your going to double wall the other 5 sides. That adds a ton of extra weight for a minimal amount of stiffness. My next box is going to be similar in size and shape as your two fifteen box. Five of the sides will be single wall and I'll probably add two braces vertically and two going front to rear. I think that'd be enough to get rid of the majority of flex. It's all up to you guys, though. Do whatever you think is best. 👍
@@JasonWW2000 thanks Jason! Yeah, it’ll be overkill for sure. I do agree that a little bit of bracing goes a long way. We’ve wanted to brace his current box, but there was never a good way to brace the acrylic.
They sure don't build GMC's/Chevrolet's like that anymore. I still have the pleasure of working on them periodically, but 99% of what I am working on are 2007 and newer. 2 guesses why, but you'll probably only need 1. Last GM product I owned was a 1990 V1500 Suburban, sadly we probably won't see many of them ever again. Very beautiful truck, great to see one in that condition. The one's I see are dedicated construction site "job" trucks, beaten to death, resurrected, and beaten to death again. Not to say anything bad about the enclosure design, but I hope Skylar realizes what that 6"x45" port is going to do to the internals of that rear hatch being so close. Better plan now for an emergency hatch opening device for when the door lock actuator/lock rod retaining clips go "Boom" along with the bass note. May as well design in a "delete" kit for the overhead console and headliner lighting as well. What are the plans for powering the 4 subs? Amplification, power sources, wiring, etc...Probably already been mentioned in previous videos, but what does the front stage consist of? Sounds like it'll be a blast to build, have fun guys!
@@DustmanDiagnostics thanks Dustin! Yeah, we’re going to handle the structural stuff as it pops up. We will be doing some sound deadening though. We’re going to double what he has now. 2 more Sundown Xv3 15s, 1 more JP53, more batteries (lithium).
@@DustmanDiagnostics his front stage is a JP84 and JL Audio c2 6.5s in each of the 4 doors. The doors will get updated at some point too, so it can keep up with the extra bass on the way. They sound really good now, but they’re get drowned out with the extra 15s.
@@stereomojo Just throwing it out there, sometimes the "little" details get lost in the excitement and turn into big problems later. Like how to remove the interior hatch trim panel when you can't open it. Having a contingency plan always helps.🦾
Good Day Mr. Welsh! My older brother has a 96 Chevy truck flare side (correct me if wrong) with a 4.3 V6 and custom exhaust. Sounds like a V8. He has a system in his all pioneer (2 12s).
Will the 6in x 45in port have enough room to load off the rear of the SUV? How much space will it have between the rear and the enclosure? Which box design software did you use? FYI threadad rods with caps and lock washers do well for bracing.
@@OriginalWis good catch! No, it’s not ideal. It’s looking like it’ll only have something like 4-5 inches. We might end up sitting the rear seats up so we can push the box forward when it’s time to get serious. Then slide it back when he has passengers. We’ll figure it out though. No, he didn’t use any software. He just knows the general rules to go by with volume, port area, port length.
@ thanks! He’s good at it. We’re also going to be able to dial it in with the IMSG before we make the Final Cut, then glue it and screw it in place. We’ll show it on the channel when we get to that point.

A better question is whether you would be willing to run one in your vehicle or not? lol If so I will purchase one. Thank you for testing the low end stuff, because bass is bass.
@@RecordnRtist hey, thanks for the nice words! I don’t try to be fancy, just normal, and sometimes that means a little goofy. lol. Yes, the Welsh Audio amps are legit! I have lots of happy customers that have been using them this year. I would, and will use one in my own vehicles.

@stereomojo I have a kreg rip-cut and it's good but it will still allow the saw to walk if your not paying attention.
