    The one major downside to Files, is how slow it is compared to File Explorer.

    The problem for me with Files, is that it feels sluggish, unlike File Explorer which is fast

      True, its slower

      Yeah it's sluggish and I'm also not a fan of how bulky everything is. Not the best for smaller laptops.

      Hi MY, if you want something fast, very fast read my comments about DIRECTORY OPUS v12.29 above. Had it a year and i am absolutely gobsmacked at what it can do, I wanted something much much faster than explorer, fully customizable as i view all files as thumbnails, graphics, pdfs alot, slides, no matter what type, and i got so sick and tired of waiting for explorer to refresh, so i spent hrs looking around. After using DOPUS, for short, i would never go back to explorer, i didnt even know that these were around. all the best MYahoo

    It is rubbisch, believe me. Cloud folders and files are only partly shown, no all folders view, have to open so many tabs it is insane. Waste of money. Windows Explorer is bad but Files is worse. Sorry but that the truth.

    I'd wait for a v3 of this program. It looks nice, and you'll be tempted to use it, but you'll start noticing a few problems that make it annoyingly difficult to justify keeping it as your default Explorer alternative. First, it's slow to load up, and slow to navigate. Not terribly, but you'll feel it. Second, it does weird things at random. It forgets window positions, randomly ghost-renames files while you're deleting other files, and it has no List sort, which is really irritating. I love the interface and visual style, but it needs a few patches and fixes before I can use it as my daily explorer.

    You should have told the downside for this file explorer. For example one of the downsides is that you can not expand the folders on the left panel. The second downside is that you can not eject or access the format menu of any usb drive connected to your PC.

      This why after installing it, when I realized this , I uninstalled it. The feature of expanding folders is a must on a file manager.

    Do you know if it the tabs are saved when you close your folder? Also, can you save the setup of your folder, so you can back it up, or bring it to another computer? Thx!!

    IMO 'One Commander' is a better alternative to File Exploer.

    • @vladimirkraus1438
      @vladimirkraus1438 2 года назад

      One Commander looks very cool and is definitely better than Files. I would have a few objections however: 1) it feels slow and is memory hungry 2) it is still just an "Explorer" style of work, despite the fact that it has two panes etc. So it is still the old copy and paste... 3) many important features are still missing, e.g. you cannot browse archives.
      If you liked One Commander, check HiFile file manager. You may like it too...

      @@louis.jacobs Hi Louis, i completely agree, I didnt even know other explorer types existed, i was so sick/tired of the slowness, lack of features of explorer i started looking around, and after 1yr+ using DOPUS, v12.29 now, I would never go back to explorer, I am gobsmacked at what dopus can do, i'll never use all the power and infinite features but everything is customizable, and the speed of it, as i view every file as a thumbnail, image, pdfs, slides, and across 5 drives, dopus is awesome, fast and I have been extremely impressed ever since. I tried many types, and always came back to dopus and so I got it, so glad i did one of my best apps without a doubt because it just does so much more and very stable, support, add ins, etc etc and i use it as a complete replacement for explorer in W11. All the best cheers kev

    Thank YOU. Microsoft is cutting out all third party software. Stardock and everyone else who is making money off their OS is in trouble -- even their Defender is much better now, when you know what you're doing...

    I hate artificially created voices. Why can't real people talk you through? None of these file managers allow you to arrange the order of files in a folder to your own liking.

    After yrs of frustration, extreme slowness, limited flexibility, lack of features with Windows 7/8/10/11 File Explorer I finally researched better products. After lots of hrs I got Directory Opus v12.29, DOPUS for short from GPSoft. WOW, I don't know where to start, Dopus, can do everything you can think of & so much I never thought of. It does FTP, MD5, SHA-1 CheckSums, Coding Scripts, The Drives Folder Tree on the left handside is totally customized, colours, fonts, bold, italic etc, what and how they open, what order, you can add tree map lines too make it easier to follow. The main window with yr files, is the same thing, fully customizable, it has multiple view types, vertical, horizontal preview windows, double or triple row/column views, you can view any file type in Dopus you can think of, text, image thumbnails which I use, videos, slides, codes, hidden. you can change the view size of all the file folders, icons, thumbnails with a slider, or click a size, 32px > 300px+. I do all winzip/unzipping straight from dopus. I use mainly thumbnail views for all my files, so I can see all my pdf's, graphics files without having to open apps, and W10/11 was just so slow waiting for the thumbnail views refresh, Dopus, is now instant, on any of my 5 drives. Say you need to go thru and change a word, or make 500 files ascending or descending, but you want to add the word "Cat" to end/start of file name, no problems, open edit, add in or type the word, number, txt you want added /removed, to the file text, hit enter Dopus does it right there in seconds. Create as many "Lister" types as you want and save them. they are yr explorer window views. Add Tabs across the top of yr windows, or 2,3,4,5 rows and 25 tabs etc you can do it. Office file apps add, back/restore, I have had it for a year and would never go back to explorer. By the way it has full very skilled support and add ins you can get, I will never use the full power but this 1 app has solved all my problems and more, very stable, fast, updated versions incuded is very customizable, I was and am just so thankful and impressed. I dont sell it, i just wanted to let you know that there are alternatives, last thing, I use it as a Full Explorer alterantive in my W11, but you can customize it how you want. anyway merry christmas cheers kev
