Are We Living In The End Times?

  • Don't miss this very special release! It's an intimate conversation between pastors Douglas Wilson and Jeff Durbin. Doug and Jeff talk about the Bible's description of end times and the end of the world.
Does the Bible teach that Christ's church will win the nations through the work of Christ and the preaching of the Gospel? Will the church be defeated in history before Christ returns? What does the Bible teach about the end times? Is the popular modern view of the secret rapture, 7 years of tribulation, and a defeated church fit the Biblical view of the end?

Love when he said, If my salvation, if my justification was down to my works, I’d be dammed for my good days. This is so true for all of us, truly humble. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:”

We open up the Word and the gospel is proclaimed. Our desire is that our work environment changes for the good. Pray for this group and that the unbelievers come to the saving knowledge of Christ Jesus.

Glenn Coleman I come from a dispensational background myself. I studied eschatology quite a bit, and this just makes more sense. But it’s OK to be a bit agnostic about it first. I think that’s most peoples problem, they won’t admit that they do not know what they are talking about, that they are just parroting what they have been indoctrinated with. God bless

@@genesiskeglar6372 Post mil makes no sense whatso ever. History gives it the lie and so does the Bible. Doug Wilson’s Postmillenialism (we the church are making everything better and better until we save the entire world) doesn’t match history and he knows it. The world is going to Hell in a handbasket around him spiritually and still he is Pollyanna. He tries to save his pet theory by swallowing up the past 100 years of disaster in “you have to look at 500 year intervals” but that doesn’t work either. We will look at that in a minute but first how do we measure growth of the “kingdom”? Is the Kingdom the gospel, The Church and if so which church, Christendom, technology, Standard of living or a set of ideas. He doesn’t seem to know and this is important. You cannot measure improvement if you won’t say what you are measuring.
Okay, let’s look at Doug’s Four 500 year time eras since 30 AD. The first 500 years takes us historically to the fall of Rome (western Roman Empire). In the early part of this 500 years the Good News about Jesus is definitely spread rapidly from Judea throughout Europe, Asia and Northern Africa. The Western Hemisphere and Oceania is still largely untouched. Seems like progress BUT halfway through much of the visible Church joins hands with the polytheistic and oppressive Roman Empire and becomes the state religion. Is this a step forward or backwards. Well certainly wider spread of unpersecuted churches but a definite nosedive in the purity of the message which will lead to near total spiritual blindness for 1200 years. Not so good.
Second 500 years is the age Of Islam and the Mongols. This is a big step backwards for the Kingdom from almost any conceivable measure. From a visible church standpoint, most of Asia is lost to Christianity. North Africa goes under. So do parts of Spain and Eastern Europe. Spiritually this is a very Dark time. We used to call it the Dark Ages. In Christendom (largely Europe), education declines, technology declines, missionary efforts are almost non-existent, the Church has become a secular empire ruled from the Vatican. Not a slow growth of the mustard seed.
Third Era - The Crusades and the Renaissance. Well Technology is back on track but this is due to the Crusades stealing back Greco-Roman tech from Islam. Unfortunately they also stole Islam’s evangelism plan - spreading the faith by the sword. Not a good trade from a spiritual standpoint. The Roman church gets more and more secular and oppressive. It actually fields armies and wages war. Spiritually “the kingdom” is a cesspool which brings about the 4th era we are in.
Circa 1500 brings us to two men and new movements they represent - Luther and Chris Columbus. The Reformation and European Exploration. The Cesspool of Rome finally stinks so bad that God raises up men like Luther, Huss, Wycliffe, and Tyndale determined to restore the Church and put the Bible and its message back in everybody’s hands. In the search for wealth and power, European exploration finally accidentally opens up The Western Hemisphere, sub-Sharan Africa, and Oceania to missionary efforts and the Great Commision of Mat 27:19-20 is finally fulfilled. The Gospel has made it to the ends of the earth. Unfortunately, much of the effort is by the Catholic Church still using the Islamic method of the sword and conquest - see South and Central America. Two brutal Protestants - Calvin and Knox - also adopt this methodology in a postmillennial spirit of saving the world whether it wants to be saved or not. This era, while a slight improvement on the last two, maybe, is not all progress. It is largely 500 years of literal civil war inside Christendom. The Church is fractured into a thousand warring denominations. It is the Spanish Inquisition. The Hugonaught War in France. The Hundred Years War. The War in Ireland. Napoleon, and the list goes on. The last hundred years of this period has been a bloodbath wiping out any spiritual gains of the prior 400. The Kaiser, Wilson, Churchhill, Stalin, Hitler and Roosevelt vie to see who can kill the most Christians and other humans. Morality and Church attendance has taken an ever-steepening nosedive. Tech is up but that just steepens the plunge. Communism murders millions between wars and so does abortion in “Christian” countries. We no longer know how many genders there are and we have returned to embracing Greco - Roman polytheism and homosexuality. How is this an improvement? Enjoy the internet and air travel. That is about all we got in net.
And not a word aout dispensationalism which is also laughably wrong.

There are several accounts where the apostles thought it was the end of the world when they were caught in storms on the Sea of Galilee. It wasn't :)
I imagine if we could see the mustard tree of the Kingdom actually growing, we would see times when the enemy is throwing all it can at it, and while it might "suffer" for a time, potentially loose a "weak branch" or two, the tree prevails and is the stronger for it. At other times, the season is perfect for unhindered, exponential growth. I imagine the enemy even tries to build walls around the tree to contain it. But you know trees - those roots get into everything and eventually the enemy's walls fall because the tree has either cracked the foundations, or, the tree has fought to grow so much that it just pushes those suckers over.
It took 500 years or so for the promise of Messiah in Amos to be fulfilled. The fight against abortion (et al) is winnable, I truly believe that, but if it takes another 50 or 100 or even 200 years to purge it from history, if that's the plan, so be it. So often we judge God by our own limited life spans. It's nothing for God to say "eh, it's going to take a few generations to deal with this one, but it's cool - I've got this, and by the way, I win ;)".

What is good will be considered bad and what is bad will be called good.
During the rapture (I was taught) that the rapture will be the worst time to be alive and a Christian because there will be more and more worse than how it is now. And my youth pastor said no one is for sure for sure when Jesus is coming back or if it is the end times now it is really honestly up to God to know. Carla, you are cofusing the rapture and the Great Tribulation. What you are talking about is the Great Tribulation which Jesus talks about in Mat 24:15-28 which is the worst time in human existence. The Rapture is the Return of Jesus to gather up the Church both dead and living and set things right on earth. In verses 29-31 Jesus says this takes place IMMEDIATELY AFTER the Tribulation, not before or thousands of years after. The Left Behind Books says the Rapture comes first, Doug Wilson say the Great Tribulation, the worst time in human history, already happened in 70 AD when the Romans destroyed Herod's Temple in Jerusalem in 70 AD. He says after that things have just kept getting better and better and that eventually the Church will save the whole world before Jesus returns. This isjust plain wrong. The last hundred years alone of history was way worse than 70 AD. Jesus never said the whole world would be saved. Instead he said few would find the path to salvation. Doug is wrong. I hope that helps.

@@alexnicholson3915 Sure. This will be brief and miss a lot but you will get the gist. Durbin and Wilson teach what is called POST Millennialism. This simply means that Jesus will not return until after the millennium, a 1 thousand year period of Godly rule on Earth - by (wait for it) Jesus the Messiah. This Post Mil belief is thus idiotic and unscriptural - an oxymoron. The only explicit reference to this period being a “millennium”, meaning lasts 1000 years, is in Rev 20:1-10 which oddly enough comes right after Rev 19 which describes the bodily return of Jesus, the Word of God, to Earth at the Battle of Armageddon. So Rev 19 has Jesus returning before the Millennium and Rev 20 has Jesus ruling ON EARTH during the 1000 year “millennium”, so Jesus does NOT only return AFTER the Millenium. You have to be brain dead not to see Post Mil is wrong. Once you realize that there is no saving this oxymoron.
Dougie the OX and Jeff the Moron say they got this teaching from Catholic scholar Augustine the Hippo (Alright of Hippo). This also where Calvinism supposedly came from which tells you something about that oxymoron.
They base this idea mostly on wishful thinking. They say that the millennium started in 70AD with the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem, an event not recorded in the Bible even though Joh wrote Revelation 20 years later. From that point on we have according to Ox and Moron and the Hippo been living in the 1000 year reign of the Messiah with the Church running the world and everything getting better and better until it is fit for Jesus to come back. EXCEPT, of course, that 1) the church does NOT run even most of the world 2) Things are definitely not getting better and better 3) so far their “millennium” has lasted over 1950 years which is a bit over 1000. I would give Augie the Hippo a partial pass on the insanity of those mistakes because he died in 430 AD and 1) The church WAS kinda running most of HIS Roman world by then 2) His world WAS getting better for Christians - No one being eaten by lions. And 3) The 1000 years still had 600 to go. Jeff and Doug are hard put to find a braincell between them, however.
Nothing of spiritual importance happened in 70 AD. 1) Jesus does not return. We are still waiting. Even Doug and Jeff are still waiting. 2) The Temple had been dead and useless for 40 years by this time. The end of Temple and Torah was in 30 AD at the crucifixion when the Temple veil split. Mat 27:51 According to the Talmud, even the day of Atonement offering was rejected 40 straight times after that. 3) The New Testament Age began with the Death and resurrection in 30AD Not the Temple destruction in 70AD.
I cannot tell you what most Christians think but I can tell you what Jesus and the Bible say about the endtimes. The most compact passage is what Jesus has to say in Matthew 24. Here Jesus says his return will not only be Pre Millennial (before he starts ruling Earth directly) but Post Tribulational (immediately after the worst time in human history). 70 Ad was a bad year to be Jewish but it was not the worst time of even Jewish History much less world history. WWII beats it all hollow and worse is to come.
In Mat 24 Jesus answers 3 not 1 question and this is where the Ox, the Moron and The Hippo get confused. Mat 24:3 after Jesus says the Temple would be destroyed his disciples ask 1) When is this destruction going to happen?, 2) when are you coming back?. And 3) When is the end of the world (Ox wants to go all dispensational and says Aeon means AGE as in Torah age, but the word can mean age or world and most scholars for 2000 years but say it means world here.
Answer to #1: In this generation and 70 Ad was just barely. (V 34)
#2 was Answered as a) “immediately after the great Tribulation, the worst time in human history (V.29-31) Clearly NOT 70 AD and b) You will not know when I return (v. 42-46)
#3 was answered similarly No one knows (V 36)
      Does that help?

For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭55:8-9‬ ‭ASV‬‬
These men are talking about salvation of the world EXACTLY HOW WE AS HUMANS WOULD HAVE IT. That WE are the hero’s for being such great servants and disciples that others salvation is our doing and not by his grace that brings us to God through belief in Christ. Seriously this way of thinking of salvation is very easy to understand bc now it makes us feel a narcissistic heroism for people who come to know the world and we can boast that look at how many souls I saved through MY good works not by grace. The fact that these men think they can fully wrap their heads around God’s ways and rationalize everything in their human brains is so concerning. I pray that God will open your eyes to the deceiving of your hearts and false teaching. That by grace you would be humbled and stop seeking fame or glory by bragging of the children you’ve saved or being the true receiver of Biblical understanding. Again I pray that I’d be forgiven for slandering these men if my words aren’t true but it doesn’t feel like what they talk about is pointing to Jesus as the savior rather he was just a player and now we are just as significant.

The devil knows that day is closer now than ever before and he isn't going to go down without a fight. Here is the beauty in all this; Just like the serpent thought he was a step ahead of God in the garden when he deceived Adam and Eve, yet he was really deceiving himself because God knew it before the creation , so it will be on the great and dreadful day of the Lord. Satan will bring his deceived nations against the apple of God's eye and the end of this corrupt age will come in an instant, at the voice of the Archangel and the sound of the last Trump.

@@kylec8950 No he may be a bit direct but he is right.

@@philipmurray9796 Perhaps not, but having read Flavius Josephus' account of that war , I dare say that I have as good or better an idea as you do. What I do know is that even by the most exaggerated accounts, it was nowhere near the worst event in history, even if we are just considering the Jewish point of view. The Temple had been destroyed before and had been useless anyway since the veil of the Holy of Holies tore at Jesus' death. At worst maybe 1 million Jews died in 70 AD but 6 million died in WWII death camps alone. Nothing happened to most of the world in 70 AD. Only Judea was affected. WWI and WWII affected most of the world and killed way more. US bombings of Japan alone were worse than 70 AD, much more so the rest of the deaths in that war. 70 Ad was certainly a bad year to be Jewish, but from the rejection of their Messiah circa 30 AD to 1948 AD there was seldom a good year to be a Jew. That is one really bad run of poor luck.
None of that answers my original point, however. Mat 24:29-31 is quite clear. Jesus says: "Immediately after the tribulation of those days" that he will return and gather "his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to another." That absolutely did NOT happen yet. Thus 70 AD was NOT the great Tribulation of Mat 24:21. Final answer.

After that, it does not really matter if JM's misunderstanding of the "flow" of Revelation would be interrupted by Jesus' understanding of the order of his return, Jesus is right and prevails. Besides Revelations "flow" is interrupted several times by the nature of the structure of the book which is a 3 fold repetition of the events of the end of time in spiral form - The 7th seal contains the seventh trumpets which expands on the Day of the Lord. The 7th trumpet IS the 7 bowls of wrath which even further expands on the Day of the Lord's wrath. It is NOT a straight thru narrative.

“As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?" And Jesus answered them, "See that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and they will lead many astray. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are but the beginning of the birth pains. "Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake. And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. "So when you see the abomination of desolation spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let the one who is on the housetop not go down to take what is in his house, and let the one who is in the field not turn back to take his cloak. And alas for women who are pregnant and for those who are nursing infants in those days! Pray that your flight may not be in winter or on a Sabbath. For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be. And if those days had not been cut short, no human being would be saved. But for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short. Then if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or 'There he is!' do not believe it. For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you beforehand. So, if they say to you, 'Look, he is in the wilderness,' do not go out. If they say, 'Look, he is in the inner rooms,' do not believe it. For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather. "Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.”

Solomon Mike .....whats the confusion about? Jesus returns pre-mill. Read His Parable........ "The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear."

Solomon Mike ......you should read and BELIEVE your Bible, not a system created by men. The scripture i pointed you to is from the Lord Himself. He says when He returns, the people will be seperated, some will be burned up and the others will go into the kingdom of His Father. Thats about as simple as one can make it.
Also Revelation19 tells of Jesus return to earth and destroys the Beast and false prophet. The next chapter it says Satan is bound for a 1000 yrs and the tribulation saints are made alive again to reign with Christ for a 1000yrs!! The rest are not alive again until AFTER the 1000yrs are done.
"And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection."
      Revelation 20:4‭-‬5 KJV
Christ returns before the millennium based on scripture. Pre-mill. I hope i dont sound antagonist, i really just want to shine some light if i can. We are called to help each other when we can. Even if you dont accept it, just remember men create systems all the time to try to figure God out, but God can NOT be put into a "box/system". HES GOD!!!!

We have been in the End Times since the day Jesus went back up to Heaven after promising His disciples that He would one day return. The Bible also tells us that to God, one day is to a thousand years as a thousand years is to one day and that not even the Son knows the moment of His return. I've no doubt that Christ and His army are sharpening their swords and readying their weapons of war and it's highly plausible that in our lifetime, the end will come but that is not to say anything is for certain as their have been times before that have been darker than anything we have witnessed in modern church history. The church has this attitude of: "It's all ending anyways so let's just prepare for it and prognosticate about it. Besides, we've done all we can." And it is that very belief that is going to make us unprepared for Christ's return. What would we do if God came down to earth and said "I'm not making my move in your lifetime. Keep preaching."? Would we even know at this point how to move forward with that? The end is coming but we've no clue when nor do we have any evidence to suggest it is either near or far. We need to make sure that we don't get so caught up watching the planes fly off that we end up missing our own flights. I loved this video a lot, @apologiastudios. Thank you for all that you guys do in the advancement of the gospel and bolstering the church! God bless you guys!

I appreciate your lightheartedness. It's very popular to think the world will end. Look at all the YT false prophets. It's a shame and blasphemy to Christ's name and the Bible. For just under 200 years now America has been "drunk on the millennium" as one historian put it.
Since you love the Bible enough to study for 40 years consider that the Bible must have had meaning to it's original audience. "I, John, your brother and partner in the tribulation" must mean something to the seven churches that "are" (were) in Asia. Real places, real people.
All of this new world order, one world currency, Illuminati garbage is not fitting for Christians. Yes, it's ahistorical, Christians were not only not-loony, they invented The West. And yes, some of these modern teachings are non-Biblical or even un-Biblical.

For those who believe Christ “returned” in 70 AD, remember Matthew chapter 25 follows chapter 24. There are no chapter divisions. Read Matthew 25:31-46 and tell me if these details happened in 70 AD.
    No way.
Also those who say the “end of the age” was the end of the Jewish system (temple, priest, covenant, etc.) … read Matthew 13:36-42 where Jesus explains the parable and uses the phrase “end of the age”. Have these events Jesus spoke of happened yet? No way. Did they happen in 70 AD? No.

      @ Ken 10001000
Hebrews 9:28 tells us exactly when and what the second coming is as I stated above
replying to John Doe. 70 A.D. was the fulfillment of Jesus prophecy in His Olivet Discourse.
The "second coming" is something else entirely.
End of what age? the age THEY, Jesus and the Apostles were living in when this was written,
the Old Covenant age. When this was written the world was pregnant with the New Covenant,
experiencing its birth pangs. The Old Covenant sacrifice system was destroyed in 70 A.D. in a
Jewish civil war started when the abomination that causes desolation was placed upon the
altar in the temple. That was the bust of Caesar who demanded that Caesar be worshiped in the
temple and the temple Jews agreed and the zealot Jews revolted and then came Titus who destroyed
Jerusalem. It's all recorded in the works of Josephus.

Ken, your referring to Full or Hyper preterism, which is false. But Partial preterism is the most accurate and logical interpretation of Revelation. Revelation was written before the Tribulation of those days around 66A.D and distributed to the 7 churches to warn them of the coming Judgement and the man of sin who's name equalled 600, 60 and 6. His name in Hebrew germatia adding the vowels of letters was Kaiser Nero, Emperor Nero, who's nickname was "The Beast" .

    • @2drsdan
      @2drsdan 6 лет назад

Again, The second coming is a timeless event experienced at every believer's coming to Christ or, is the reality He comes to save us? In any event Hebrews 9:28 tells us that Jesus came the first
time to deal with sin (on the cross) and comes the SECOND (coming) time to bring salvation to those who are
seeking Him. I've had people argue that this couldn't be true because the Bible only says it once.
I don't even have words to respond to that statement, it's so lacking.
The entire 9th chapter is so chock full of the subject and culminating in the last sentence, what more
      proof does one need?
The end times false doctrine is surely a principality whose fruit is evident all around us.

    • @Ken10001000
      @Ken10001000 5 лет назад

A few responses to my comment/question seem to be leaning on preterism. Can someone who holds to preterism tell me from the scripture I mentioned above (Matthew 13 and 25) if THOSE events happened in Jesus supposed return in 70 AD? How could they? I find that preterists love to mention Josephus as some grand "back-up". But that is a appealing to a non-believer historian. Why not simply and directly take the verses I mentioned before, and hold fast to them over some other view? They are truth ... about this age and the age to come. In Matthew 13 Jesus mentions what happens at the end of the age/world. Read it. In Matthew 25 Jesus tells us that all nations will be gathered together, and the sheep will be separated from the goats, and folks will be sent into everlasting punishment and others enter into life eternal. This did not happen in 70 AD.

    • @2drsdan
      @2drsdan 5 лет назад

Then Jesus is a liar and Christianity is a lie. Because these things MUST SOON TAKE PLACE.
THIS generation (those standing listening to Him speak) will not pass away until all of these things take place. 70AD is A coming in judgment. The sign of a REAL prophet is that what he prophesies happens.
If we are still waiting then Jesus is a liar because that generation has past and died.
THE "second coming" is defined in Hebrews 9:28 and it is the TIMELESS event of salvation that will
continue until the end of the earth as described in the "Gloria Patri" Ephesians 3:21.
      World without end.
