- Mark kermode reviews Let’s Be Cops. It's the ultimate buddy cop movie except for one thing: they're not cops. When two struggling pals dress as police officers for a costume party, they become neighborhood sensations. But when these newly-minted "heroes" get tangled in a real life web of mobsters and dirty detectives, they must put their fake badges on the line.
Please tell us what you think of the film -- or Mark’s review of the film below. We love to include your views on the show every Friday.

Fridays at 2pm on BBC 5 live.
Anyone else watch Always Sunny in Philidelphia? Isn't this film the episode when Dennis and Frank buy a cop car and Charlie becomes Serpico? EVERYONE'S A CROOKED COP
Tbf that was better. I remember agreeing to see this on the day I passed my driving test thinking it would be a great way to celebrate such a life milestone and I just sat in my cinema seat thinking "Oh god make this stop"
"Where is the cheque?"
Brilliant.
l wish Mark would tell us how he really feels about this film. Does he like it or not?
The last line of the review: "It's rubbish".
The funniest cop movie; Hot Fuzz, bar none.
You ain't seen Bad Boys 2?
No the first one's better but it's still fun
That is quality, but Naked Gun is up there.
Thank the heavens!! The good doctor is back!!! About bloody time!!!!
The funniest thing about this movie is that somewhere in an alternate universe _"Let's be Cops"_ is a thrilling, critically acclaimed deconstruction of power and toxic masculinity
You can tell Kermode had a good holiday, he sounds chirpy and full of life. I think he saw so many bad films before, he needed the time off. Welcome back, most of us had Kermode-withdrawal.
2:48 no no no no no
Sounds amazing, the trailer made me cover my face with my hat
The doctor is in fine form here.
I laughed more during this review than I did in the actual film itself.
the black guy has his badge on the right hand side of his chest while the white guy has his badge on the left side.
05:26 = Mark finally admits his true feelings for Transcendence..!
Alasdair Boswell No Knob Jockey, He really really liked that film..!
Mark, please review GOTG, you owe us man! you owe us!!!!!!!
I thought for its genre, this was actaually quite funny, ok even.
Impersonating a police man is a crime, I don't watch any films that may have crimes in. I refuse to watch Shawshank Redemption because of the theme of tax evasion.
Ahhh....Robbie Collin was good, but it's nice to have Kermode back in full rage mode.
Also on an aside, surely a film about dorks being cops and pulling guns on people, in light of recent events in Ferguson, is pretty ill-judged? I know they made the film way before all this happened...but even so. Bad coincidence of release.
I wish Mark Kermode would get off the fence about this movie....
Gordon Heaney me too... and I am about to part with money to see it...
lol sounds like this movie has Mark flabbergasted.
so dissapointing when the whole of a film is in the trailer
It seems like Mark doesn't go into comedies with an open light hearted mind , Of course you're going to hate any comedy if ur miserable going into it
He's much harsher on "genre movies" e.g. horror, comedy etc but he's fair because those movies are designed to get a certain response from the audience and so should be judged on whether or not it succeeds.
Did you think this movie was funny genuinely?
A majority of comedy movies aren’t funny.
I really hated this movie and didn't laugh once!
I haven't seen the film so can't comment but thought the clip was actually quite funny. I don't see why the concept of the film isn't funny (ie, two losers dressing up as cops). I do agree though that if they are scenes where they are playing with guns, then, yes it's stupid and childish.
It's weird watching an American reviewing this and saying that he "loved it" and then watching an English ""it's rubbish"
Personally I have given up on comedy a long time ago.
The only time I watch a comedy is when I am bored and too lazy to put on a decent movie.
The World's End was great. This is the End and 22 Jump Street were pretty good.
American comedy is dead on the big screen. The funniest american stuff now is on TV.
R. Ringshifter The World end was just hollywood money, Simon Pegg and co are English.
Dennis Potter I know, but iCrackediTTv never specified American Comedy.
Dennis Potter It was filmed in Britain.
Greenfield is a creep 🤮
Yawn these black jokes are corny and overdone.
This was a really funny movie. And when it got to the climax of the film it was funny, suspenseful and smart. The part where one explains a cop game and the other experiences being a cop in real life was very well done
None of what you’ve said is true
@@doodooswaggy3825 What you say isn't true!
Old man Mark reviewing a comedy film is like listening to my granddad tell me DnB isn't real music. It's not clever or funny to dress up as cops, Mkay? Mark's whole pointing guns at each other in a coffee shop isn't funny in this current climate... It's a film, Mark. They're not actually doing it. And even if the real law enforcement wandered in I'm guessing the film crew and cameras might tip them off. Just hearing Mark and Mayo do their old man routine at the beginning just sounds so cringe-worthy. I find it so unsettling that they seem to find themselves so amusing.
Sorry but the whole reading the actor's statement out a couple of times in this arrogant dismissal kind of way just makes Mark sound pompously unpleasant.
So don't listen then.
yeowart How am I meant to know WITHOUT listening? At least my comment might inform other of the nature of the review where as yours is just pointless.
it's ignorant to think that because it's just a film the 'comical' notion of impersonating a police officer and pulling guns out in cafes isn't going to rub off in some way on it's naive teenage audience.
andymc24 I'll tell you what, if we get a spate of copy-cats because of this film I'll retract the comment. It's funny though given Kermode's history of Horror films and has talked about the conservative attitude to its violence and fears of influencing its viewers. It would seem the same thinking doesn't stretch to teen comedy.
The other thing is context. If two 15-year-olds dressed as cops in a cafe waving guns at each other do you dive under the table? Also in general I have a certain amount of respect in teenagers to understand their environment and know this is a film. Otherwise I'd be really worried none of them watched Cartman grind up his enemy's parents, make chili out of them before feeding them back to his enemy. Or the irresponsible things Ace Ventura does, or Airheads, Dumb and Dumber, License to Drive, Pineapple Express...
A fair comment, although I think it's more dangerous the 'closer it is to home' if you know what I mean.
Watching crimes, killings etc in very unrealistic looking 2-D Southpark, or watching Ace bleeding Ventura an absurd unrealistic comedy sort of detaches it from something you might try.
Watching the same in something like superbad or this movie, where it's more like the viewers' real lives, I would say it's likely to have a stronger effect on much of the audience. Not to say that there will be outright copy cats up and down the land, but kids here and there might at least see how apparently hysterical it might be. It's just a risk man, it's not funny anyway.
