i've been playing the game for a few years and from my experience, the best armor for a general, all scenarios armor set, it would have to be the bear or wolf grandmaster sets.
That depends on how You want to play. If You mainly use fast (but weaker) strikes, the best armor is the cat school. If You use strong (but slower) strikes, the best armor is the bear school. If you specialize in witcher signs, the best armor is the griffin school. I hope you can understand my lame english. 😄
Stats wise, I never paid much attention. Manticore looks great and that's good enough for me lol. The best gear in the game (for armour rating and vitality boost) is the Toussaint armour diagrams. So the Ducal guard Captain's armour, Toussaint Knight's armour etc, which can be found around the exploration locations in Toussaint. You know, in case you feel like doing some more diagram hunting 😂
Three cats? You mean a meowlogy? You do not have to travel around to get all the earlier armor sets. The grandmaster can craft each set for you, but he will charge you handsomely for each. Plus you will need him to dismantle and craft a great deal of your inventory. This is why we kept telling you that you need to upgrade your weapons and armor. But don't fret, you are far from the only reactor who has neglected to periodically upgrade only to discover their mistake near the end.
You can craft the Manticore witcher set with the diagrams you already have. For the four original witcher sets, you need all five tiers of diagrams to make the Grandmaster version. Forgotten Wolven witcher set (received during the quest 'In the Eternal Fire's Shadow') has three tiers: basic, Mastercrafted and Grandmaster. The stories for the Scavenger Hunts in the base game are not as fleshed out as here in Toussaint but many of the diagram locations are interesting.
Keep in mind that you can only have one of the new mutations active at a time - but you open up a new ability slot (on the main Character screen) for every 4th mutation you research. These slots are somewhat restrictive: you can only put abilities of the same color(s) as the current active mutation (so you can never put a General/Brown ability there), and these extra slots do not boost any equipped mutagen effects. I usually research a total of 12 mutations, so I open up the third new ability slot. There are not enough ability points to reseach them all (some of them cost 7 ability points!), unless you are willing to sacrifice some points in abilities you actually want to have active.
Which school has the best set?
also, I was sick during this recording LOL help

Manticore is cheapest of the sets to construct, and works well with concoctions toxicity and euphoria mutation builds.
Remember the names Moreau and Jerome?
(That quest about new mutations - it's called 'Turn and Face the Strange' or something like that.)
Ohhh I see!
Wooo! Another witcher video 🎉 I hope you feel better!
