So, a little explanation to the ending change. As you saw in this video, the main “protagonist” (the guard man) went on a journey to get revenge for the death of his friend, and by the end, he ended up avenging his friend and killing his killer. On finals night, however, the “Hallelujah” theme from the ballad was reused and everyone was surprised when the protagonist actually showed mercy to the killer. After an entire season of getting a revenge story, people were blown away by the show of mercy at the end. Finals night also saw the familiar “crown” set at the end. I don’t know the exact details and this is all I can remember, but I hope this helped to give a bit more insight. If anyone who knows better wants to correct anything I said, fee free to do so.
@@luckystiff5695 i believe it was also changed because (quoted from the official dci website): "earlier, the son had avenged his dad’s murder, but the staff ultimately decided it would be harder for the son to live with the guilt of taking someone’s life"
I love that you watched this! I marched in Crown from 2014-2016 on mellophone. 2016 was my ageout season and it was an incredible experience. The music was well written and everyone in the corps was so talented. I love your videos, keep it up! It makes me happy to see you react to a show that is so near and dear to my heart ❤️
I thought that too, then the Bloocoats went on. Normally Crown owns everyone on brass but not in 16. It was extremely noticeable when you see them back to back live. Bloo shocked me out of my seat!
Even on the side 1 15 yard line in Atlanta I could feel SCV's brass in Babylon all throughout my body from how loud they were. Videos never do justice to top tier hornlines.
The 1993 Star of Indiana performance of the same music, is a STRONG contender as loudest but it was impeccable as well... and Crown's brass caption head was the Drum Major SOOOO, it all makes sense, full circle.
This was honestly one of my favorite performances of that entire season. We had just done a full day of camps with hundreds of high school kids, and they all came to watch us that night so that crowd was.... absolutely unbelievable. You could Feel the energy radiating from them! Funnily enough, this was also the rehearsal site where we learned the new ending, but we didn't perform it until the Centerville, OH show a week or so later. As to why the ending changed, that was the summer of the Pulse shootings in Orlando. The design staff chose to remove the death from the ending and replace it with mercy to try and show solidarity and promote peace. We actually tried really hard to find a way to still kill the bad guy, but make it self defense instead. Unfortunately, we couldn't really find a safe way to get him to fall off the back of the stagecoach XD. (Also, if you watch the finals videos I'm the lady that stops him from shooting Aaron so I guess you could say it's my fault ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
yo this is my favorite show you guys were awesome. I really loved the rifle work in the opening hit (idk if u were on rifle also congrats on being the real antagonist)
They changed the ending out of respect of the victims in the Orlando night club shooting that year. But this video that we are watching is the old closer.
tf if they were being that sensitive about it they shouldve just dropped the whole show then lmao like its messed up and sad but god damn it has nothing to do with the fucking western themed show, good for crown for being respectful but it was totally unnecessary to change it.
Baadach yea ordinarily Im all for being sensitive but I feel like changing the ending because of the nightclub tragedy was a bit of a reach. But respect for being considerate. ANYWAYS.... she needs to react to their 2015 Inferno which I know Ive recommended some many times on the website lol.
I think they changed it beyond that and had nothing to do with the theme of the show. Good for respect but I still think the change was to much change. Thank you for that info though.
@@baadach3752 Yea it's tough that they changed it, thing is, they could of gotten 2nd possibly but they possibly still would've gotten 3rd most likely because their percussion got 5th and that hurt their score. People tend to forget that Crown's percussion throughout the 2010 decade except the last two years cause their percussion is improving a lot now but their guard isn't like how they used to be when the guard staff left them to go to BAC in 2017.
And that's the primary reason why we love your DCI-reaction videos, Courtney. _Because_ you don't know anything about the technical side of this is precisely why we love your reactions so much. Courtney, don't sell yourself short. You pick up so much more from the music you are reacting to, than a lot of people would who've never marched with a corps. You may not play an instrument, but you obviously are able to recognize when a passage of music is more intricate than others, and it's obvious when you are hearing something that you enjoy....
I got to see this show in person, and got to see them rehearse the morning of their performance as well. Getting to stand literally on the sideline and hear that opener, which is SO beautiful, followed by that MONSTER chord/hit when they turn to face the crowd the first time was a really great experience.
I remember one of the musical pieces they used was originally done by Star of Indiana in 1993. I’d love for you to check out that show because it is, in my opinion, the most influential show in DCI history.
The drum major that year is Crown's brass caption director, the guy in the drop the hammer videos. I completely agree that '93 Star was exactly as you said! My friend marched contrabass in Star, 91, 92 and 93... his stories were so awesome to hear!
I love these kinds of shows where it portrays a story very clearly. I personally like the finals run more just because of a lot of the staging changes they made (like in the ballad having the flashbacks to the friends death shown) as well as little musical things, although this particular ending is always one of my favorites.
The finals ending has good points too. The ending to this one may have the son finally taking revenge on his father's murderer by killing him, but I feel like the final ending is better since the son realizes that by killing the murderer he'll just keep the vicious cycle of death going, so he decides to be better than the murderer and spare him.
HAHA my brother was in this show, he plays tuba but he was the one dancing/fighting with the guard member... he actually gave me his hat and i still have it :)
I really love this show. It has a has a really cohesive and touching story, about a son who is *relentless* to pursue and kill his father's killer. An amazing story accompanied by amazing brass and intense, unforgiving music that characterizes the son's rage is what makes this show so amazing.
2012 Crossmen - Fragile, It is an amazing show and the intro is amazing! and i got to auditions for them for that show that year but didn't get to go because i couldn't afford it, but i was glad i got to play next to chris sometimes, the lead soloist. lol
The only thing about this video is they don’t show the Crown set. However this show from top to bottom was well thought out and put together. It tells a story and the brass is stellar as always. Their visuals and color guard were the best they have ever been. This is just a flat out brilliant show.
was the crown set in the original ending? Just curious, because on all the recordings that i've seen, the crown set wasn't in the show until they changed it for finals
A majority of the music they play in the beginning is from an Italian composer named Ennio Morricone; from this western film from 1966 called "The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly". Not requesting a reaction here, but I would highly recommend watching that movie if you ever find the time to do so. It is arguably one of the the best (some would even say THE best) western ever made. The star of it is Clint Eastwood; back when he was young enough that everyone watching the movie could see how Scott Eastwood would look when he got to that age himself.

@@CourtneyCoulston seeing any DCI show specifically a Carolina Crown show is electrifying and amazing you feel like your going to blown away buy the power of their sound. as an example a few years ago someone took a dicible meter to see just how loud they where just about as loud as a jet engine at 130ish decibles
Interesting they had you react to the Ball State University show since it is one of the first shows of the DCI tour. The crowd sounds extra loud because Crown did a summer camp with local high school bands at that location so they have a lot of enthusiastic fans. Also, these microphones were not front facing like the ones they use at Finals (that's why crowd reaction is so quiet in finals videos).
Hi Courtney, today a friend recommended I check out a Kyoto Tachibana HS Band Video. I watched it - they were great - and I noticed your "New Zealand Girl Reacts" video for them in the "Up Next" column. I always enjoy watching videos of people from other countries reacting to things that are generally idiosyncratic to the United States. I watched it and thought "wow, that's cool, I wonder if anyone has suggested DCI to her yet?" I clicked on your channel, saw your DCI playlist, and *instantly* clicked Subscribe!! I'm wondering if anyone has recommended Star of Indiana 1993 to you yet. The opening music of that show is the same as this one ("Medea" by Samuel Barber). I also always felt like Crown was the spiritual successor to Star (1993 was the last year they put on a show on the field, it's a long story). I also heard through the grapevine at one point that some of the old Star instructional and/or creative staff went on to work with Crown, maybe a Carolina Crown alum on here could confirm. I'll go to your website and put in a recommendation, and thanks so much for making these videos, so fun seeing how much you enjoy Drum Corps!
I love LE TANGO DE ROXANNE When I saw it on the list i was SUPER EXCITED and well not let down but I do have a version im writing that give more time on the beautiful art that song actually is
If you liked reacting to D.C.I., I'd love to recommend another one for you. In 2002, The Cavaliers, who at that time still wrote their drill and then original music to that drill and were the only corps doing this, performed a massive show called "Frameworks", earning a 99.15 in Finals. Less than a point from perfection. In my opinion, all things considered, it is by far the greatest show ever performed in D.C.I. contest. Definitely check it out.
unless i missed it, you still haven't done Cadets' 2011 show Angels and Demons! That's one you would certainly love. It's one of my favorite shows of the past decade.
The hornline is also the reason why Carolina Crown is my favourite corps. I'm a violin player (and conductor) but I love the sound of the brass and Crown has an excellent orchestral sound. During my childhood I played cornet in my elementary school's "banda de guerra" (war band) in Mexico, very different from what a drum and bugle corps is.
This was not the alternative ending You want to watch the DCI final from Lucas Stadium. It has the alternative end which they changed after the Night club shooting in Florida.
If you ever get the chance, watch Crown’s brass warm up. I’ve done it in Indy for prelims and semifinals a few times, basically standing next to Matt Harloff as he works with them. It’s insane to be that close to that line at full volume when they’re on point. And Matt’s fun to watch.
I really enjoyed both endings. The 1st ending is powerfull and tells a story of revenge. But the 2nd ending had much more emotion to it. Both great. As to the point that they could have won with the old ending; lets not kid ourselves, no one was going to beat BC that year.
Someone already mentioned it but they did change Seasoning due to the Orlando nightclub shooting out of respect for the victims. You are right on the money when it comes to the difficulty of the music as they mixed Samuel Barbers Medeas dance of vengeance with another classical piece and then the second number was from Moulin Rouge With an awesome western flare Followed by hallelujah and back to more of Medeas dance of vengeance
I was there for finals that year and there is no way the closer prevented them from winning. They should have beat BD but Bluecoats wasn’t gonna be topped that year.
If you like Crown better than BD that's fine we are entitled to our opinion. But Crown was 2-9 head to head against BD in 2016. That 11 shots at BD and they only beat them twice? That does not scream Crown should have been over BD, that screams BD was just better. I would love to read the comments if BD goes 2-9 against Crown and a BD fan says they should've topped Crown. This place would be anarchy.
gunner 3477 I’m only taking about finals night BD was more developed throughout the season but the last week was when Crown’s show came all together and was hitting on all cylinders. There were so many different layers to the show itself and talent wise there was no one with a better horn line and color guard combo.
@@ryanmele8159 Crown 2016 was freaking amazing! But we had three gold medal worthy shows that year. What kept BD in front of Crown finals night, was BDs guard. Devils guard finals night was out of their minds and it showed in guard caption 19.9 to 19.6 in favor of BD. But what really did Crown in was their 5th-6th place percussion. But at the end of the day Bloo won fair and square.

Speaking about '93 Star of Indiana. Thought that Phantom had a better performance than Cadets or Star that year ( Maybe I'm biased towards B Hermann :) LOL
The new ending is better IMHO. And they deserved second, not third. No one was going to beat Bluecoats this year (Downside up, you know, with the ramps). Occasionally, DCI rewards innovation over execution, something they should do MUCH more often. Still one of my favorite Crown shows, though. Any other year and they win. Typical DCI politics with the Blue Devils. I was there, again, on the 50 Friends of DCI seats. Would be really interested in your reaction to Star of Indiana 1993, which I consider to be the greatest show in DCI history. Took me YEARS to fully understand all they were doing. The beginning and ending of this show is a trademark of that 93 show, and was even showcased in Blast (Tony Award-winning Broadway show based on Drum corps).
I don’t think they could’ve won with a little change in the ending. Bluecoats 2016 for deserved the win. Carolina crown definitely deserved all the awards though
react to ryan garcia! A boxer who is 20-0 and is only 22 years old. first pro boxing match was when he was 17 and people call him the next floyd mayweather
Some people (a lot) are still mad about the Blue Devils getting second that year. Crown got best Visual, Color Guard, and Brass, but still got 3rd. One of the biggest finals upsets.
BD outperformed them on finals night. Guard went to Crown and deservedly so as guard scores are averaged over three nights, but BDs guard popped a 19.9 out of 20 on finals night to Crowns guard of 19.6. BD also beat them in drums, GE Visual, and Visual Analysis on finals night. And c'mon let's be real. Anytime BD beats anyone the crowd thinks it's a upset. BDs buses can be first in the parking lot and people will cry like babies. BD was over them fair and square. Crown beat BD in 2013 fair and square. And Bloo won overall in 2016 fair and square.

I always enjoy watching videos of people from other countries reacting to things that are generally idiosyncratic to the United States. I watched it and thought "wow, that's cool, I wonder if anyone has suggested DCI to her yet?"
I clicked on your channel, saw your DCI playlist, and *instantly* clicked Subscribe!!
I love LE TANGO DE ROXANNE
When I saw it on the list i was SUPER EXCITED and well not let down but I do have a version im writing that give more time on the beautiful art that song actually is
Another great choice by Courtney, another great show.

She's done a reaction to it already. It's on her channel
unless i missed it, you still haven't done Cadets' 2011 show Angels and Demons! That's one you would certainly love. It's one of my favorite shows of the past decade.
I've always had a passion for the Old West, so anything with a Western theme always gets my attention.
true! I loved the western theme a lot ay
Wow! After the second time watching, I saw some people dancing! (I was watching your priceless reaction!)
I know someone who marched this show. What a great show it is!
Fun fact, the girl in the thumbnail on the video, her name is Shannon Causey, she’s actually one of my Color Guard coaches now
I'm a Carolina guy In Texas makes me miss home. Good one Mrs Courtney 👍
You should watch some Boston Crusaders shows!!! 2019, 2018, and 2017 are awesome, along with 2014 and 2013
NOOOO WAYYYY !!! I had to do a double take when I was scrolling through my feed
ayyy!❤️
Finallyy i love this show❤️
It’s about time!
love this show!! their horn line is always perfect
i'm obsessed with their horn line
Yup - the Medea hit in the opener gives me chills every time.
I would recommend Colts 2014 dark side of the rainbow, first year I marched and so close to making finals. Man I miss those times.
Courtney is becoming a Crown fan before our eyes I think.
😍😍
I believe this is the old ending. The chills are unreal.
I really enjoyed both endings. The 1st ending is powerfull and tells a story of revenge. But the 2nd ending had much more emotion to it. Both great. As to the point that they could have won with the old ending; lets not kid ourselves, no one was going to beat BC that year.
Facts
Someone already mentioned it but they did change Seasoning due to the Orlando nightclub shooting out of respect for the victims. You are right on the money when it comes to the difficulty of the music as they mixed Samuel Barbers Medeas dance of vengeance with another classical piece and then the second number was from Moulin Rouge With an awesome western flare Followed by hallelujah and back to more of Medeas dance of vengeance
OMG i been waiting for this video 💙 :)
THE BEST story driven show design in the history of DCI and NOTHING even comes close!
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOT THIS ONE LETS GO
💪🏼
I was in this crowd!
Your hair looks great Courtney! 💞👱♀️💞
14:16 you do need to see one in person, it is very different than the videos!
I know you normally pull your videos from Patreon but I have a very special request and I am not a Patreon member....I am at the hospital waiting for my husband who is in getting an MRI on his brain and I am very nervous as he has had cancer once before and beat it❤️❤️ AS AN AGED OUT MEMBER OF THE CAVALIERS IT HAS BEEN SO REFRESHING WATCH YOUR JOURNEY THROUGH DCI AND YOUR REACTIONS MAKE ME CRY BECAUSE YOU GET IT!!! IT IS SUCH AN AMAZING ACTIVITY AND YOU ARE GIVING IT A VOICE..MY REQUEST IS FOR YOU TO REACT TO CAROLINA CROWN 2010 AS IT IS ONE OF NY FAVORITE SHOWS EVER WITH THE HORN LINE YOU LOVE AND A GUARD THAT JUST KILLS IT (you should probably react to 2009 Carolina Crown as well as 2010 is kind of a part 2) and in 2009 Crown received 2nd place which was their highest placement at the time. Your reactions while I sit in waiting rooms make my day and would love it if you could do this for me. Love Steven from Indianapolis...THE HOME OF DCI
Hi Steven! Thanks for your comment and support! God bless you and your husband! I'm praying for his recovery. Stay tuned okay ❤️
Courtney Coulston I am so excited to see your reply as you are truly one of the best and now I know that you really do read all of your fans comments❤️❤️ I will definitely stay tuned and I just wanted to add that my husband who is not from the DCI world loves your reactions because you remind him of how he felt as I made him watch show after show over the 17 years we have been together....New Zealand is on our bucket list so when that day comes, get ready to meet a couple of huge American fans!!!❤️❤️❤️
Now this hasn’t been a top 12 corps since 2016 but you should totally check out Madison Scouts 2019
waited for this one too
Speaking about '93 Star of Indiana. Thought that Phantom had a better performance than Cadets or Star that year ( Maybe I'm biased towards B Hermann :) LOL
you need to react to a drumline playing sheet music in a lot its insane
The beginning and ending of this show is a trademark of that 93 show, and was even showcased in Blast (Tony Award-winning Broadway show based on Drum corps).
would love you react to the finals show!better camera work and entertainment value. also to see the differences in the shows
You need to watch The Best Ranger Competition I just watched it and it just fills you with pride to see the most inspiring soldier
ooo ill check this out. thank you!
@@CourtneyCoulston I can give you the link to make it easier - ruclips.net/video/ru47Fbc5Qcw/видео.html
Kordoro perfect!! Thank you so much. I’ve just saved it
Love this show! Next one you need to check out is Crossmen 2012, it's such an amazing show! I'm sure tons would agree.
YESS!!!!
i really want to see her react to the blue devils 1989 final performance
LOL with the frack? Gotta go with Semis for that one, in my opinion.
Hey Courtney, please react to MLB LOUDEST CROWD REACTIONS, you would love it, nice videos!
You should really watch “Carolina Crown 2014- Out Of This World” my band director marched it
Was the crown in this performance? Did I miss it?
FINALLY
Literally any lacrosse video, its an indigenous native american sport. It would mean a lot
wow i didn't know it was an indigenous native american sport! I'll check it out thank you!
I like the finals ending better not gonna lie
Please do a review of Western Carolina University marching band.
Largest band in the Nation
Watch the Texas Aggie Band!
gotta react to 2010 carolina crown
when is 2015
You missed it. It was about 5 years ago.
If you can find a good video
PLEASE WATCH 2015 Carolina Crowns INFERNO, truly something 🤩🤩🤩
Hey that's my college. Go Ball State! #ChirpChirp
We don’t deserve Doug and John 😭🙌🏽
Some people (a lot) are still mad about the Blue Devils getting second that year. Crown got best Visual, Color Guard, and Brass, but still got 3rd. One of the biggest finals upsets.
If it was between Bloo and Crown, Crown might have come out on top that year.
I mean bd was ahead of them like all year so not really an upset
Clark FitzGerald But to take 3 captions and still get 3rd is very unusual
