Forget American idol, and those type shows. Linda Rondstadt is what REAL talent looks like. Never be another like her, ever! What a God given voice she had! She could sing rock, pop, opera, Hispanic, ANYTHING. The power and range in her voice was unreal. I read her book, fantastic. Gorgeous photography, beautifully written! Get a copy! Love Linda!
That's why, when people fuss and fawn over "one note/one melody/one more profanity-filled tune" Taylor Swift, I have to laugh. Linda Ronstadt was a TRUE talent; a voice that could soar to the heavens or serenade with a lush Gershwin tune. To have come of age to her music in the late 60's, early 70's, and experienced all her musical interations throughout the years, this interview truly brought me to tears. She was, and will always be, one of American popular music's untouchable treasures.
@@birdsfan57 absolutely, unequivocally agree! What passes today for talent, for the most part is pure garbage. Taylor swift, is more than likely autotuned to the moon and back. Pale in comparison to the true greats.
@@patricialavallee8286 I remember that disasterous performance when Ms. Swift completely ruined the song with Stevie Nicks. True God-given talent, such as that possessed by those you mentioned, will likely never be seen again. I would add the late Eydie Gorme, Connie Francis, Dionne Warwick, Petula Clark, Della Reese, Vicki Carr, and Marilyn McCoo to that list. All amazingly talented with never a need for gimmicks or autotune.
@@birdsfan57 yes, that performance with Stevie Nick's. I kind of got the vibe that Stevie was trying hard to gauge how to sing ,"around," for lack of a better word, Taylor Swift. I have reflected and shared many times my plight as a white woman with a flat tire. Always, and I mean ALWAYS, many times, a kind Mexican man was my rescuer. I've never had a white man stop to help me, more than a few flipping me off. Same when I was a child traveling from So Cal across to Oklahoma with my grandparents every summer. I've worked with Mexicans, and are there to do, and diligently do their job. NO lack of work ETHIC, even in younger generation. As we see in our American youth today. Helpful as co workers, also. They come to America, work hard, build businesses of their own, and family is everything to them. Family, strong work ethic, and belief in God..
Im 72, old enough to have seen Linda live several times. A beautiful voice and she was able to cross genre of music with ease. She is today as beautiful and caring as she was in the 70s. All the best to you Linda, we still listen .
Came home to this interview after having dinner with an old college chum. Talked about one of my life's regrets...not going to see Linda in '76 when she performed at Alumni Hall at our college, St. John's University in Jamaica Queens. My friend said she was great and remembered her singing "Heat Wave." When was she not great?Listened to her "Back in the USA" album on the way home. This wonderful interview capped off my evening. So grateful to her for taking us along on her musical odyssey. Not only has her vast catalog of music enthralled us, but as primarily a cover artist, she has led me to know and explore so many other singers from the distant past. We, her fans, are indebted to her for continuing to share herself and her life's story with us. Her voice remains music to our ears.
Her Spanish music is all I play in my car, while I learn Spanish. My Son in law is from Mexico and I worked at a free clinic with a large Mexican population. Just wonderful people who helped any way they could, including holding large Fiestas and giving the money to us to keep our clinic going. They are all a real blessing to me.
Linda Ronstadt has been my one "special star" my entire life. While her musical abilities are extraordinary, it was Linda Ronstadt the 'person' that drew me to her. Kind, generous, talented yet vulnerable from the start. When you dig into her biography you will discover what made her who she became. A pioneering family tree of music, invention, work ethic and love. Her mom was a jewel, a sweetheart whose dad was one of the most gifted American inventors in history. Her dad, a talented singer himself gave up a career in popular music to instead dedicate his life to raising his young family. True pioneers of the great American Southwest that has added untold riches to our amazingly diverse nation. Thoughts and prayers are well deserved towards this woman who gave us so much. Thank you Linda.
One of the purest voices to be on our planet... I guess you could say I grew up listening to her in the late 60's and early 70's. Linda... you are a national treasure. God bless you and yours and thanks for so many wonderful songs.
Not blessed in any way like Linda was, but singing was my life since I was a young child. COVID took it from me in 2020, and it's like I lost a friend I had always depended on. I thank God everyday I am still here with my wife and living my life with her, but I do miss belting out a tune.
I hope Linda Ronstadt continues to appear publicly because she has more gifts than that tremendous voice and her physical beauty. Her intellect and humor are sublime.
My mom was just diagnosed with PSP, it’s been really hard to accept. It’s very rare so they don’t know a lot about it. It starts with a lot of falls and loss of control of motor function, my mom’s ability to speak is really affected, it’s hard to understand her. We know we don’t have all that long left with her and are trying to grieve but also make her last years as happy as possible. She’s only 60. I love Linda ronstadt, she had such a beautiful voice. I listen to her music all the time. It’s strange because my dad was a bit of a fan but I found her music on my own and began listening to it. She must be listening to the most beautiful music in her head. I’m glad she’s talking about the disorder because it is so rare most people don’t know it exists. My brother has joined a support group that helps people who have a family member with PSP and a lot of them are donating their brains to science so that someday we’ll be able to understand more about it and hopefully the people who have it won’t have to suffer as much.
Love her all her vocal gifts! Her voice and her way of life! She took control of her life! Canciones de MI Padre is an amazing sing along! All her music is AMAZING!
She was drop dead gorgeous when she was younger and still has those eyes all these years later. Just seems like a genuine, normal person with values that are sadly lacking in many people today.....speaking from a younger 48 year old perspective.
One of the most beautiful voices I’ve ever heard! My Dad passed in August and I listen to Canciones De Mi Padre all the time. Her voice and lyrics on this album keeps me so close to my Dad and Mexican heritage! True legend!
I don't even have to put on her music because so many of her performances are seared into my brain that I can hear them crystal clear inside my mind. Thank you Linda, thank you.
I love hearing her songs, takes me back to my childhood. My dad went to school with her in Arizona, so whenever I hear her music, it also reminds me of my dad who passed away 5 years ago.
Love Linda. She is my all time favorite singer. Back in the 70s when music was an important pass time (didn't have the internet of course) I would listen to her songs and voice over and over again. Sorry, but I can't do that with a lot of pop music today. Her heartfelt singing really resonated with so many of us.
Linda Ronstadt s voice was amazing...she was lucky to be able to do what she did and she had a good life ...now she is grateful ...be grateful everyday if you get to share your gifts and do what you love
Oh my, it breaks my heart to see how this is and has robbed her of her ability to be one of the greatest voices this world has ever known. Yet, she is still so beautiful, and most assuredly isn't looking for pity. Absolutely love her.
I agree with all the others that have written comments. I also grew up with the great Linda Ronstadt. There will never be another voice like hers. Thank you so very much for featuring this interview with one of the greatest voices of our time! I have adored Linda Ronstadt since 1967... One of my greatest voices of all time. Being a Tucson native myself, the Ronstadt family is ever present. It is very hard to see her struggles now. But also shows her courage when most people of her fame and status would not do this interview.
Dear Linda Ronstadt, I have been a fan of yours for decades, your music, your voice your humanity all are incredible. I want to take this moment however, to thank you for the love and support you gave to your good friend, the late, great Phoebe Snow. After Phoebe’s daughter passed away, you lovingly helped her get beyond a mothers devastation of loosing her daughter. You pushed and supported Phoebe to get back out there and as a result, we were able to benefit from her extraordinary voice and talent for a few more years and create her exquisite live album, her final gift before she herself, passed away. It says a lot about you Ms. Ronstadt that as an artist, you are capable of helping another great artist and sister, during the darkest time of their life. You and Phoebe will always be my heroines.
I LOVE YOU LINDA RONSTADT !!!! Best female vocalist ever. Gard you gave us so many good times, listening to your unmatchable voice, dancing, singing, smooching lol. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing gift xxxxx
Queen of her scene and yet she never bathed in her own reflection. Important pipes surrounded by devoted talented players. No one sings like Ronstadt, not now and truthfully not back when. Rare and remarkable pipes.
Indeed. As she evolved musically she got off the celebrity treadmill by choice. Linda had enormous fortune and followers from the mid 70s on. She appropriately gave gossip and fame the middle finger as she became depressed by the self absorbed attention. It was the Music that mattered. Gorgeous important pipes.
Wonderful interview. From her concerts when I was a young woman, then seeing her on Sesame Street sharing Mexican culture when my children were small, to now looking back over her life. She is forever an icon.
Amazing. I am 74 and when I started high school my mother also told me not to learn to type because I would be stuck being a secretary! Now it is called "keyboarding" and most everybody can do it. Linda is outstanding and I listen to her music regularly. I wish her only the best.
Wow What an absolute Legend I LOVE Linda Ronstadt She has Paved the way For young Singers To follow their dreams and To never Give up And even though She can't sing anymore Her gifted voice Will inspire others to chase after their dreams and Always stay true to who you are And that's what This Legendary Lady has Done We love you Miss Ronstadt.
With my having an appreciation for Linda Ronstadt's music since the very beginning, and with my now the same age as her, I'm doing the same kind of soul searching. Being a burned out motorsports writer I have noticed the interest of younger folks who have never been told or experienced what I have. I have come to enjoy writing a monthly column for a racing paper reliving my days of chasing high-speed half-way round the world. I really enjoy the response & feedback. It will make your day. It's also why I've begun work on a book of memoirs. Thank you Linda for everything you've given us.😢
I am so happy to see Maria Shriver so eagerly engaging with Linda Ronstadt. So thrilled to see Linda getting along despite life’s challenges. I am quite jealous of Ms. Shriver for getting to spend time and break bread with the iconic legend that is Linda Ronstadt. I would love to cook a Mexican dinner for Linda! It would be an honor!!!
Who doesn’t adore this woman? Linda Rondstadt was and is perfect in every way… About her age, we grew up and old separately but together: I was, of course, never in her world, but, through her music, she seemed always present in mine. Now in her 70’s (as am I, lol.) her elegance seems un diminished, and although she can no longer sing, her music is immortalized in her many recordings. In my mind, a great great lady, of substantial character and immeasurable talent. A gift to all of us who genuinely love music!
Rondstadt looks better today than a few years ago. She has been struggling with health issues for so long. She had an amazing voice and is living an amazing life. Wish her the best.
I'll always love Linda, not for Her heritage or other political issues, just because She sang son beautifully and gave the world such joy. Linda, no matter what, You will always be in our hearts.
Haven't seen her in a while as she lives in our area of Northern CA. Heard she was sick but never saw her shaking before. Thanks so much Linda for the music and memories. Your music will live on forever!
Her Mexican songs are through the roof! Her performance is freaking mind blowing. Pulling out all the stops I have gone down that rabbit 🐇 hold many times watching the performances in what topped the charts as a world music album. This country has many beautiful threads running through it making a rich tapestry . Thank you for embodying that Ms Ronstadt. Congratulations on your book 📖!!
My all-time favorite singer! Loved her from the Stone Poneys forward. Just a perfect voice. I did see her in concert once in the late 70s and it was phenomenal. So sad she has these physical issues but grateful that she blessed me for decades with her beautiful songs.
Linda Rondstadt is one amazing woman and artist. I have so many great memories of her from my youth. My friends and I listened (or partied) along with her music. Dearest Linda, my the angels watch over you and 'thank you' for everything (a Canadian fan forever)
Very special and rare songbird. The new book - historical, personal, musical and edible is a fascinating journey to our Borderlands. An often misunderstood place - the Sonoran Desert is a unique and blended world that is deep in Ronstadt's soul. Fine interview - tell Linda we still love her, tell Linda we still need her.
Wow! Linda...you are loved and adored by SO MANY around the world. In my eyes you still are the best. Thank you for speaking up for Mexican people and for not being afraid to let the world know the struggles you are dealing with. A true inspiration!
The songbook of my adolescence. That iconic voice and so much class. I'm so thankful to be able to say that I saw her perform so many times, live. Amazing talent.
Linda Ronstadt is the real deal a voice like no other! This beautiful woman was such a force and could stand toe to toe with any man in the music business. Just love her! ❣️
Linda Ronstadt is a musical prodigy hands down!!! She is an amazing singer, performer and artist and as a Mexican she really makes me proud for having the gall to say she is proud of her Mexican heritage and the making of the 2 fantastic beautiful Mexican albums. People dont realize how musical and passionate Mexican music can be and is actually the poetic heart of American Country music has its rood in Mexican song poetry. I believe Ronstadt knew this and why she says it shaped and inspired her musically into being able to be so versatile. Mexicans and Americans should be very proud of such a mega talent that only comes around once in a lifetime.
Love her! Part of my life, growing up with her music. My father died from PSNP (progressive supranuclear palsy) and it's rather awful. My heart is breaking knowing what she has. Her tunes are just running thru the threads of my (and alot of others') life. A legend.
We are all so deeply fortunate to have grown up listening to Linda. What a wonderful gift she shared with the world and did so over such a long time-span. All the best to this beautiful lady. Thank you, Linda.
Thank you for doing that interview Maria. I have to admit it was kinda hard to see her in that condition. I used to listen to Linda Ronstadt a lot in the 90s on my way to work and she still has one of the best voices I've ever heard. I've worked with patients exactly like her (with her condition) and surprisingly, they all had that same type of humor. Hearing Linda make that last joke put my heart at ease.
I love Linda!! her voice was like no other. All her songs are so special because of her amazing vocals. I own Canciones de mi Padre and that album is the Max!! 😍😍👏👏👏🙏🏼🙏🏼
She was the greatest female voice in rock history. She took incredible risks with her career and always came out on top. No one can replace her. She's unique.
Grace Slick, Ann Wilson, Tina Turner, Stevie Nicks, are just a few Rock singers better than Ms. Linda. She is indeed an outstanding cross-over, cross culture singer beyond reproach, but not the greatest in rock history. I’ve told you a million times, stop exaggerating.
@@memoriesofdaysgoneby2348 apples to oranges.. moot point. The 4 rockers you mentioned beginning with the fabulous Grace Slick, who was also a multi-instrumentalist... Are all superb in what they did or continue to do. Linda, however.. is unique in and of herself. She won the highest honors within the realm of Rock.. and then went to Broadway and then two different genres of music. She would take huge risks and she would succeed. She is an amazing woman and talent.
I remember when she first went public with her diagnosis, how her sadness and devastation was written all over her face. It's really greate to see her genuine, relaxed smile and spark in her eye is back.
Happy 78th Birthday Linda you ROCK!!! you know...Queen of Country Rock, Folk Rock, Rock n Roll, Pop Rock, Standards Rock, Mexican Rock ect ect ect...what a Gem she was/is...Ronstadt set the Standards for modern female singers a woman of conviction and professionalism...prayers for Linda...amen

I always loved her. When I sang in a band, I sang all her songs. So glad that she looks great at her age and is still able to speak and think with that horrible disease she has. I send all sorts of positive thoughts to her
to me she's the queen of country rock! She carved out her own niche! Fabulous talent as a solo artist and with collaborators like Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Aaron Neville, James Ingram, the Eagles, and so many more.
I still love this Woman.Despite her physical problems, she still looms large in my memories of those days in the late 60’s and throughout the 70s.Iconic.... she is and her music will be remembered and rendered but never duplicated.
It’s so so SAD to see sure a beautiful person and wonderful performer to unfortunately have this terrible disease. Her gorgeous voice will always be with us. Happy Birthday Angel🙏
This is a fabulous interview from such an icon that is embracing radical acceptance as her body no longer allows her desired self expression through singing so she found another way through her writing 🙏👍🙏 Much to be admired 🥰
That humble, open minded, beautiful, human soul shows even back then she wasnt Ashamed and stood up for her heritage didn't make a mexican song she did a whole album even tho she didnt have to, it came from the soul 🇲🇽

I have been a fan of yours for decades, your music, your voice your humanity all are incredible.
Wow, that’s great to hear-didn’t know that, absolutely love Phoebe Snow too-so talented & underrated!!
The duet with Aaron Neville, "Don't Know What" simply out of this world! Aaron's voice - it's a wow! Shalom.
Mesmerizing that’s my definition of her essence. 🕊🎵🕊🎼🎵🕊🎵🎼🎵🕊
Amazing. I am 74 and when I started high school my mother also told me not to learn to type because I would be stuck being a secretary! Now it is called "keyboarding" and most everybody can do it. Linda is outstanding and I listen to her music regularly. I wish her only the best.
I took high school and college courses in typing and I never typed for a living. But I can really do a quick google search entry.

Thank you Linda for everything you've given us.😢
I love this interview with Linda...At home and eating delicious Mexican food...God bless you Linda ❤️🙏🏼
She is number 1 vocalist for me. Seen her multiple times over the last 25-30yrs. One of the top 4 female vocalists in the last 100 yrs
Who doesn’t adore this woman? Linda Rondstadt was and is perfect in every way…
About her age, we grew up and old separately but together: I was, of course, never in her world, but, through her music, she seemed always present in mine.
I saw her in concert at The Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs in 1977. It is a very fond memory. She was the best. The Academy cadets loved her.
Linda Ronstadt, we love you!!!
What a picture of courage. Love you Linda.
Beautifully said....thank you.
Beautiful inside and out. We love you Linda !
Best live pipes on the planet. Powerful and tender. Viva Linda!
One of the purest voices to ever grace Pop music. Ronstadt will not be repeated.
What a voice, what a song. What a career. I wish I was listening to Linda's music sooner.
My all-time favorite singer! Loved her from the Stone Poneys forward. Just a perfect voice. I did see her in concert once in the late 70s and it was phenomenal. So sad she has these physical issues but grateful that she blessed me for decades with her beautiful songs.
Hi Linda how are you doing today
She truly is an amazing woman of substance. I'd always enjoyed her music, but her interviews, in recent years, have been insightful.
I don't think they've incited anything! I would say they're insightful.
You are very insightful. It must have been late when I wrote that. Thanks.
Linda Rondstadt is one amazing woman and artist. I have so many great memories of her from my youth. My friends and I listened (or partied) along with her music. Dearest Linda, my the angels watch over you and 'thank you' for everything (a Canadian fan forever)
Hello Nancy how are you doing today
Sending love back to your heart did you attend any live event?
Linda is absolutely amazing. Loved her music since the early/mid seventies.
Still going strong!!!
None better! We love Linda Rondstadt for her music And all-around graciousness. Gracias!
Hearing any of her songs takes me back in time...the voice of my generation. She is a marvel.
Sending love back to your heart did you attend any live event?
Bless her heart. She deserves every honor she has received. Linda is a world-class talent.
Love & best wishes Ms. Ronstadt from Australia. ❤️🇦🇺
Thank you, Linda, and viva Mexico!
Thank you, Maria, for bringing this interview to us. Linda's voice and music is something that we will always listen to and love.
La mejor intérprete de música con mariachi que he escuchado en mi vida. Me encanta su voz ❤
I love Linda!! her voice was like no other. All her songs are so special because of her amazing vocals. I own Canciones de mi Padre and that album is the Max!! 😍😍👏👏👏🙏🏼🙏🏼
I fell in love with her when she sang "Different Drum". Sne is more beautiful now and her person shines through more strongly. Thank you Linda.
@@memoriesofdaysgoneby2348 I didn't see any of those singers attempt any standards. Maybe bleat about something you know something about.
Not
Not even the best country
May God bless her for bringing Mexican music to everyone.
I remember when she first went public with her diagnosis, how her sadness and devastation was written all over her face. It's really greate to see her genuine, relaxed smile and spark in her eye is back.
Sending love back to your heart did you attend any live event?
Happy 78th Birthday Linda you ROCK!!! you know...Queen of Country Rock, Folk Rock, Rock n Roll, Pop Rock, Standards Rock, Mexican Rock ect ect ect...what a Gem she was/is...Ronstadt set the Standards for modern female singers a woman of conviction and professionalism...prayers for Linda...amen
My fathers most favorite female artist ‼️ What a TALENT 🎶❤️🎼 Thank you Linda for nailing ALL those musical genres especially “mariachi”, you outsold all the Mexican singers of Mexico with Canciones de mi padre 🎉🎼 You are an amazing Talent and God bless you 🙏🙏
Yep! Me too! 👴Father's favorite female artist!
Are you are of mixed Mexican and Arab heritage? I also love Canciones de mi padre soooo much. My mom would blast that album on road trips. ❤️
The more I listen to Linda Ronstadt the more I love her music. A true artist & good person...
What an amazing interview. Linda is doing great, with all things considered. Maria looks amazing. It was heartwarming to see an update on both of you.
Hello Mary how are you doing today
Merry Christmas Mary
How are you feeling Mary?
Linda Ronstadt is one of the most amazing woman ever.
Mery Christmas Teresa
That humble, open minded, beautiful, human soul shows even back then she wasnt Ashamed and stood up for her heritage didn't make a mexican song she did a whole album even tho she didnt have to, it came from the soul 🇲🇽
Back in the day, someone said, "There are two kinds of men: those who have a crush on Linda Ronstadt, and those who have never heard of her." I think she's still very lovely.
The legend Linda Ronstadt overachieved and earned all the love, respect, admiration she is getting in her lifetime.
I still am in love with Linda Ronstadt!
I grew up listening to Linda Ronstadt and I always admired her voice and beauty. Learned a lot about her from her recent documentary.
Ever since I was a kid in the 80s, Linda Ronstadt has always been one of my favorite singers. To this day when I play records, I play at least 5 or 6 of her singles
I still watch canciones de mi padre on RUclips, especially because i am from Sonora. Thank you Maria, thank you Linda
