The thing is, 10k for the mt07 is waaaay too much, it is supposed to be a budget bike. an supersport 600cc should be 10k! prices are crazy these days.
That's with mods, it is 9k OTD for a new MT-07. In these times of inflation, there isn't many new bikes as good as the MT-07 for under 10k. Even used bikes seem to command top dollar these days.
used fz07 is the way to go, get em for 4,000-5000. then you can get a slow supermoto for like 4500-6000. drz400sm or something

If Honda (that boring company) would import the Hornet 750, then we'd be getting somewhere. The GSX-8S is also a bargain for the features. Get a used GSX-S750 (or new left-over from last year). There's boat loads of XSR700 or MT-07 used with low miles at dealerships that run used stock. Not a thing wrong with those.

Been there done that but if your main reason for buying a bike is to impress others then your choice is for the wrong reason. Buy a bike that makes you want to ride it every day.

I don’t know, I’m like yourself and Cruza. Although I understand why people who work hard for their money and want to try the latest and greatest for the experience. I’m cheap, I get excited over value, and feel sick with buyers remorse when over spending for a selfish reasons or to try something that I’ll be over in a month or so. Each to their own though. I’m here to learn/understand from others, not judge.
I've ridden with a motorcycle enthusiast who was nearly 80 years old, had fast bikes when he was young.
He still talked about stuff on the market from the standpoint of wanting to "look good" and go to "bike meets."
The attitude never dies, because marketing makes sure to fill people's minds with it.

Just bought a 2024 MT 07 and feel like I did well. Had many bikes over the years and wanted something to just have fun with and be comfortable. I have no desire anymore to run 180mph or spend 30k plus for a Harley. I personally feel like I have the best of both worlds with the MT 07.

Yep, I totally agree!. My 21 year old Yamaha V-Twin cost me $4,500 cash. It will eat any Harley, at any price, for a snack. Plus, how many months does the Bike sit in the garage during winter months? Making big payments, and ya can't even ride. Save huge money and buy a used Japanese Bike, Case closed.
That’s one hehelluva quick old v twin Yamaha. My 1997 Harley Davidson sporty runs mid elevens in the quarter at over 116 mph. But honestly I’d be willing to run you on my much slower mt07.
Raider is probably the best Vtwin big cruiser engine Japan ever made, and it's far advanced of anything that's come out of HD factory thus far.

@@davidleonard8369 Before the new liquid cooled engines came out, is what I'm saying. Harley orphaned the Vrod like a red-headed step child. Their own sales people wanted to pretend it didn't exist practically.
The Sportster makes power now, but the ergonomics and chassis are goofy. No rear suspension travel, big heavy front wheel, footpegs are awkward. I don't understand the choices they made in the design.
The new 1250 Indian motor should be a rocket... assuming they put it in the FTR.
The 1800 Raider made 130 ft-lb at the wheel with a good tune and exhaust.

Simple answer? Because I wanted to and could.....🤷 I didn't buy my bikes as a utility, and I most definitely didn't buy them as an investment... they are purely toys. Both of mine had sticker prices of around 13k each. Resale value only matters if you sell.
Sure, if i wanted the cheapest fun little bike I could get, then going with the least expensive bikes is the way to go. I personally wasn't looking for a very torque heavy bike. I invest more each year than I paid for the bikes combined (besides this year as I'm paying them off)
A loan on one toy is fine IMO, loans on multiple toys at once can easily push you into just affording the payments.

It really has nothing to do with how much the bike cost it just has to do with if you can honestly afford it and if it holds value to you....but i wouldnt own a bike unless i own it outright
For me, it is all about utility value. However, I'm a bit cheap and hate to waste money. Whatever makes you happy is all that matters.

I agree. I paid $18k for my BMW K1600B, used. Def saved a lot over buying new, and right before Plan-demic. But...I have become a financial minimalist. I cannot ever see myself buying another bike that expensive. Been looking for a 3rd bike, perhaps Aprilia Tuono 660, which is around the $10K mark brand new. Scouring cycle trader for a used one as we speak.
Hell in nearly 15 years of riding I've ever owned 2 bikes that cost less than 10k. First being my first bike a Ninja 250 and the 2nd being a MT07. The most expensive one has been the RSV4 Factory limited and that was a freaking incredible bike and I got a great deal on it too.

You cannot buy talent, wisdom, or skills. You cannot buy gymkhana, drifting, wheelies, backing-in, drifting, stunting, track wins. You cannot buy street smarts and a safe riding record.

10k bike now is 8k bike in 2019.
That may be true for 2019 but I would say they were more expensive in 2021 than they are today. Supply problems allowed dealers to pad shipping and setup charges + no deals to speak of on any popular models. Today you can find a deal (at least in the Phoenix area) on almost any model + typical additional charges are around $1,000 less than they were in the Pandemic era. $6999 MT07's, $5999 GSX 8S Suzuki's, $8500 Z900 Kawasaki's, $8999 XSR 900 Yamaha's, and $3999 CFMoto 450NK's are some of the advertised deals I've seen recently. Inflation sucks but IMO you can still find value deals if you take a little time to look.
I have had one dirt bike, three motorcycles, and four ATVs. I have not spent more than $8500 on any of them.
But believe me, I am saving. So that day is coming. 😅

sure they may be too fast for public roads but you don't have to ride it every day, you keep it to ride to a place that you don't normally go
if you buy a expensive wristwatch like let's say a "A lange and sohne " or a "vacheron constantin" you not going to use it when you go out to see bob and joe from school, that is not why they are made for they are more like works of art!
a Casio or a apple watch can do much, much more than the cheapest Rolex that only show the time and cost about x10 more than the best apple watch but that i not why you buy a expensive watch !

I've never spent more than $4,000 for a motorcycle at a stealership, and never more than $1,000 with a private seller. But I have never bought (and don't have the desire to buy) a new motorcycle.
Cycle Cruza, i paid $15,900 w/tax for a Suzuki gsx-s1000gt plus. I think its the best all around bike for the money

I have been debt free for 15 years, I own my home and land plus I would never buy a new bike! (or car)
Why would you when used is so much cheaper. You may not get to pick the color and so on but I never really cared about that.
The main reason I buy new bikes is because sometimes you can get nice rebates on a new motorcycle that makes the bike not far in price from what they are going for used. Also, you get everything fresh and no worries about running into stripped bolts and tampered wiring. I bought that 2012 cbr1000rr new for a price that was actually cheaper than what they were selling the bike used for. Getting $2500 off a new KTM 690 SMC R was hard to pass up and I've had bad luck buying used European bikes like that Ducati and Aprilia I had.
@@CycleCruza I just bought a Versys 650 ABS for 3700, I don't think you can come close to that on a new one. No stripped bolts here, I don't buy junk people take apart and screw with. I buy as close to stock as I can except for things like hand guards, windshields, seats, tires and the like. I trade often and I hate to lose a lot of money on selling and if you buy new you will.
I must add that I am a retired Master ASE tech and have every conceivable tool imaginable.
Edit: I should add that I don't think buy new is bad it's just not good for me. I do see new ones I would like to have but never buy anymore.
to me, used fz07 with 10,000miles for $4500-5500 is the way to go.
to me, mt07 is not worth $7,000+ for just to have an updated screen, quickshifter, and slightly diff body.
GSX-8S would be a logical step in new market.
Valid points, does my 50k V4R give you any more joy than a 5k bike, probably not. I buy what I like, the technology, the suspension, the motor are all incredible and I'm a track mostly rider. So do i see value in your mt07? Absolutely, do I think a R1 matches my v4r for far less? No, that bike needs better suspension and brakes, which would definitely be cheaper. But to me that's not what I love about bikes. It's the feeling they give you, nothing has matched the Panigale (it's why I've had every generation).
Yeah all that matters is what makes you happy. I will say Ducati makes amazing bikes, beautiful and soulful. I'm a bit of a cheap dude tho, too cheap for a new Ducati. The one Ducati I owned, a used XDiavel S, I got it for 12k off, just one year old at the time, a sick deal I couldn't pass up. However, that still remains the most expensive bike I've bought so far at $14,500, but it was a 27k bike brand new at the time. Sick bike. I wish I would have kept it.
A Track Bike is the dumbest thing you could ride on the street...when you lose your license, hopefully you're well-heeled enough to Uber everywhere.

I payed 15 for my 2017 triumph thruxton 1200 R with 1300 miles last summer
These days, I'd say $15K is a reasonable amount to spend on a bike. The BMW R1200RT would normally be way above my price range at around 28-30K, but I bought a 2010 model with low miles in 2015 for $12,500. Now it's worth about $7K, but I've put many fun miles on it the last 9 years.
Yeah in these times of high inflation, I need to adjust the 10k to about 15k. lol It seems like everything is nearly double in cost of what it sued to be just a few years ago. You can definitly get some deals on used bikes but even the used bike market is inflated too.
I remember when superbikes were less than 12k out the door. Now they are MORE THAN DOUBLE.
And it's deceptive too. In order to get everything you paid for, you gotta toss that $1100 dollar factory exhaust in the trash, buy another $1400 dollar aftermarket system, pay another $350 for an ECU flash, and now you have your superbike with power you'll use 20% of the time, and be driving around the other 80% of the time like someone with a Bugatti Veyron grocery shopping.
How did you figure 10k? Why not 5k? Or 15k... Just curious, thnks
Diminishing returns going higher in cost. You get just about everything you could possibly want and need at around 10-12k. Beyond that it's a lot of fluff that diminishes the buying power and is buying nowhere near as much as your first 10k did.

I hear it si a great bike but overkill with power. However, that ZH2 TORQUE is enticing. I just wish Kawasaki would make it better looking. However, Japan has trouble making good looking naked bikes. lol They need to hire some Italian designers because they make the most beautiful naked bikes.

Why does everyone focus so obsessively over straight-line horsepower? Lazy that's why. Have you learned to tap out all the capabilities of that 400? 650? 800? Can you drift, back-in, wheelie, stunt, gymkhana, lap a go-kart track? Can you swerve, threshold brake, J-turn? Can you take that 400, 650, 800 on a camping trip across states? No? Why not? Not enough horsepower? Didn't spend enough money on buying talent yet?
