Supermoto all day! My first was in 2012.. Had a Kawasaki KLX250SF and put the Shinko 705's on it.. loved that bike and never looked back. Now I supermoto all my bikes.. still have a CBR, but that thing is more of a garage/show king.

I'd say dual-sport is better than a dual-sport because a dual-sport os HIGHLY versatile, you can do long touring adventure rides over thousands of miles on a dual sport, you cannot on a SM. It simply cannot go distances without having to need an oil change and a top end which leads to my second point: INEXPENSIVE. Dual-sports probably give you the best price-to-performance than any motorcycle with used dual-sports averaging like $4000 compared to a supermoto which are very expensive cost wise AND maintenance wise, compared to the performance which also leads to my THIRD POINT, you can turn your dual-sport INTO a supermoto since they are both dirt bikes in sepeeate configurations and it would still be cheaper than buying a supermoto outright. Dual sports also can go on and off road and do all of the street hooligan activities you want if you get 80/20 tires. Super-moto is straight up just f around fun in the streets lol. I absolutely love them both though, but if im recommending someone limited with money, absolutely dual sport. If you got play around mkney and ,key word, ALREADY have a motorcycle, a supermoto is the top choice for a secondary bike that you can have fun with.
Maybe scramblers are more comfortable over long distance. I'm thinking of getting a triumph 400x

You have to factor in wind gusts they can push around a light dual sport bike on the road. I need ABS on my bikes, I dont even think you can put a topbox on a dual sport. Lack of comfort if your travelling on highway.
Scrambler wud be best if you like the look of dirt bikes but you dont go offroad and your not tall and it can withstand strong winds and more comfort.
I just got a great deal on a lightly used 2022 Moto Guzzi V85TT. I consider it a cross between a middle weight adv bike and a scrambler. I've wanted a Guzzi a long time, and I LOVE it! It's an absolute blast on Virginia roads, but I don't have to turn away from gravel roads or two-track trails. That V-twin likes to rev. I also have a DR650 and an XT250. One of those two is going to be sold to help payoff the Guzzi. I just haven't decided which. In a perfect world I would put supermoto wheels on my DR, have the XT for dual sporting, and the Guzzi for a little bit of everything.
I just love the scrambler look especially when it has a mono shock up back plus I think that they have that torque that you are always recommending. I think that scramblers are kind of like MT 07s.
I might have to look at my clutch lever again or ride of the dealers see what they think about it. Kind of out of nowhere I was having problems getting it in neutral, mostly since I've had it sometimes when I up shift revs up not down. Went to check the lever and the little lock nut was already loose there was a large gap. I tighten it up rode to work than loosend a tiny bit more. My friction point changed drastically. Barely creeps forward without throttle input now. Creeping in traffic is going to be a lot harder I stalled once yesterday again that makes three times since I've had it, twice picking up way home last year. Used to just let the clutch in and out no throttle, endless the light is solid red I don't put the feet down

No, too lazy to deal with changing to dirt wheels because you also have to change the sprocket and chain. I'd rather just have a dedicated dirt bike. However, I don't really ride off-road much to justify one.maybe one day.

Things like ducati scrambler also drops a lot in value, that goes to show that almost nobody wants it in the used market while other ducatis have higher secondhand value than it

I just found a wr250r that has the warp 9 rims. With 3,000 miles. Going to test ride it tomorrow and might come home with it. Still got the r1 but I’m looking to join the super moto team

418 lbs is not heavy for a 90% of the time road bike. The other 10% would be dirt roads or fire roads
If you want to test how good your heart works, take a scrambler off road and wait for the sudden ground shift that throws the 400+ pounds of a full-sized bike into a random side.

I almost bought a Yamaha SCR 950 because it looks vintage until I came to my senses and bought a super moto. Harley riders look at both bikes like they were prizes out of a Cracker Jack box LOL
Aside from mini bikes you'll have a hard time finding a more fun bike than a supermoto. Whatever OEM you choose be it Ducati to KTM a supermoto will scratch that hooligan wheelie itch.
I need to get me a mini bike next. Supermotos rule. Anybody that says otherwise has never ride one. My YZ450FX supermoto wheelies itself. lol So fun.

Triumph scrambler 1200s are fast adv bikes with better looks. They're better on asphalt than dual sports or most ADVs

i half way agree with your tire statements... why i dont agree, it depends where you live and what the dirt is like. in norcal i can easilyyyy ride and do better than most ppl on a 18/21 setup WHILE using pure grippy sm tires, like a michelin pilot power 6.
if you dont believe me, goto my vids few years back, search for one titled "hillclimb on sm tires basm epic ride"
10 guys all stuck on a hillclimb, i go right by them like its nothing.i even veer off the trail for a moment.
grippy road tires actually do VERYYYY well offroad due to being "sticky" street tires, they still stick well on dirt.
same principle in sm racing in the offroad sections, even a slick tire will grip in dirt, verrrrrrrry well.
go watch some S1GP racing, its the pinnacle of worldwide SM. under the FIM banner.
Street tires are not designed for off-road and can tear and get punctures easier. The dual sport / ADV tires have a rubber that is designed withstand off-road application. I rode my former CBR1000rr off-road in Helltown once lol : ruclips.net/video/Xc5zCqNz2_0/видео.html

You can ride street tires in dirt, I just wouldn't mess around in the woods with street tires.

im aware what they are designed for, im telling you that they grip just fine off road IN MY AREA. and ALLLLL professional sm races race offroad, and sm metzeler slick race tires are NOT special puncture resistant tires, but ok.
