Here are some rigging ideas for the Blackmagic Pyxis 6K. I hope this is helpful! All the gear is listed in the description. How will you rig yours? Cheers, Flo
Thanks man!! It would since you would need to pretty much use the same parts with the URSA aside from the matte box maybe. I would pick the Pyxis for my types of shoot because it can be either small or big.
Love the simplicity of your rigs. I'm curious, I have the BMCC 6K + Focus Pro, do you find it that much more helpful with the Pyxis rig to shoot? My reasoning to switch to the Pyxis would be for the battery and weatherproofing mainly. It also seems like the monitor placement is better for the neck higher up.
Thanks!! The Focus pro would be the same on both camera but easier to mount on the Pyxis. That being said do not get the Pyxis for weatherproofing. It is quite open at the top!
Thanks! As I mentioned in the video I used the DJI handle as an example to show what it looks with a side handle. Haven't had the chance to use the Lidar yet :).
I have the small rig VCT shoulder rig system too, I’m surprised it’s not more popular. It’s a baseplate with rod support, quick release, sliding dovetail and shoulder rig all in one. It’s a little bulky but unless I’m doing gimbal work, that is my constant setup. And I don’t mind the weight, in fact I like it. No need for me to fuss with other setups. For your Lemo to d tap, did you get the digitalfoto coiled cable version? I noticed theres almost no right angle 2 pin male lemo to d tap cables readily available, but a lot of female RED Komodo ones available . Eventually I’ll get a custom short one made from mid49 but man they’re pricy! I hate excessively long cables
Two questions: Will you keep the 6k pro or is it redundant now? How long does the Pyxis take to power on? I know there’s lots of comparison between this and the Komodo and the Komodo has a long boot sequence compared to other black magic cameras. Thanks!
Yes, 100%! I still love the 6K Pro for outdoor, travel and personal content. The Pyxis is super quick to power on, slightly more than the BMCC6K. It is about 5-6 seconds :)
Hi, Flo. Thanks for another great video. For us who work in the S35 world with the 6k Pro, is there any advantage to getting a PYXIS now to work with S35 glass? Or is it worth waiting to make one whole swoop and get the PYXIS when I can afford proper full-frame glass? Thanks again.
I was thinking of of self-shooting with it, and mounting a 45deg mirror on the side of the display. I wonder if it has a video reverse feature, you come looking right? Thanks.
What is your solution to having a vmount here? I see you got the dumb smallrig plate, but you have it connected with dtap to the power? I'm curious if there's any soltuion like the Tilta ES-T20-BTP-V for FX6, where you can use the vmount pins directly to power without a dtap.
question about the v mount plate. I see you rigged the small rig v mount plate tenth XLCS back plate. But you said you added a cheese plate. What cheese plate is this?? thanks!
Out of interest can you use usb-c from the focus handle to focus with lenses directly like you can with the Ronin + 6k pro? (obv not for manual lenses, but just curious).
Did it come with an SSD plate and if so, have you tried rigging with it and does it restrict putting your focus pro handle on the same side? Many Thanks
First, thanks for the video ! I don't wanna be another guy with another negative comment but this design is questionable. And the battery choice. With the last 4 BM cameras, they chose 4 different types... v-mount, lpe6, npf and now BP-U... Eventhough all the quirks seem to be solved one by one, there's still one that's just a total deal breaker in the professionnal world : BRAW only. I don't know any production company which would accept it. It's only for aspiring filmmakers who are dreaming or one man band doing everything from beginning to delivery (for clients who will never notice the image quality small step up). And I find the camera actually quite big for a box style camera. I have so much to say about it... anyway. BM will crush it someday. Just not now.
Thanks for watching!! I understand what you mean about the batteries, however I do like the BPUs as they last quite a bit! I'd say the next BM cameras will also have BPU too if they follow the Pyxis style. And yes, I can totally understand why BRAW could be an issue. That being said I transcode all my files to Prores even today to both edit and grade and it takes minutes only :) But I have to disagree on the size. This thing is tiny! Look at it in the without the cage in my hand and also compared to the BMCC6K :)
@@OfTwoLands oui c'est peut-être la cage qui m'induit en erreur ! Hâte de voir la caméra avec l'écran prevu pour (et dans un futur un peu plus lointain, la version 2 de la cam) Continue tes vidéos bien cool et propres !
Just got one and got the Meike L to PL adapter with variable ND (Mofage is on order also), and it honestly feels like my FX6. It’s actually faster and more responsive except for changing between ND and Clear. Very pleasant shooting experience!
@@OfTwoLands, nothing ever stops anything. You could also say that you can shoot with 3 silent cameras and have an external audio recorder. (I did some film work back in days.) But you do understand that it wouldn’t be good marketing to advertise ”You need two of these to make an interview”. Putting a connector to the body to take 4 audio lines would cost few bucks. But they just don’t care.
These rigs all look front heavy. I don’t really know how often this person has used these rigs but most shoulder rig set up would have moosebar drop handles at the front and a v lock at back powering everything to help balance and focus grip on the right as most camera function buttons are on the left hand side of cameras. Likewise no shoulder rig is going to have a monitor perched on top like this. This is pretty poor rigging imo.
@@KenFlanagan If you watch the video I mention that the shoulder rig baseplate is used as an example of a baseplate. I even show the handles/arm separately and the vlock is at the back too. these are just ideas based on what I had in the studio. Fully aware that no one will have a monitor on top when using this setup as a shoulder rig 😅

I’ve seen other people say it too, but I’m quite surprised by how ‘small’ the camera is! Like in a really good way 😍
Totally 😍🎥 Didn’t expect that!
I remember my reaction when we opened it haha!
Used your code on a full cage for my Pyxis. Thanks, man! Best cage I’ve seen thus far, by a large margin.
Nice!! Such a great value/useful cage.
That cage is going to make car rigging super easy. BABY PINS EVERYWHERE.
Surprised how compact the Pyxis is! Great showcase!
Thanks mate!! It really is super compact, so good haha!
Seeing a vmount makes me happy, not a fan of the new batteries so love that you found a solution
☺️👍
Nice! I’ve been looking for a good setup keep up the great work!!👍🏽🎥
Thank you!!
Great video and really enjoyed your Arles videos
Thank you ☺️🙏
Loving the content, Flo! Can’t wait to get my hands on one!!
Thank you mate!! Would love to see what you create with it 🎥🔥
@@OfTwoLands hopefully soon!!
Love that shoulder rig. It looks more lightweight comparted to the Small Rig one I've seen. Is this a new product ? I cant seem to find it.
That's actually the old one but the new one I linked since to be pretty much the same.
nice rigging options. cant wait to finally get mine
Thank you!!
Great Rig setups!
For your full rig setup, would it be much more compact than an URSA? I mean would you have a preference between one over the other?
Thanks man!! It would since you would need to pretty much use the same parts with the URSA aside from the matte box maybe. I would pick the Pyxis for my types of shoot because it can be either small or big.
nice video and info, but i would go for the Mid 49 rigging system 😊
Thanks!
And it's great if it works for you :).
How does that compare to this cage?

Is the Pyxis more waterproof than the 6k ff?
Thanks for showing all the options! How much the simple set up weight? Is it heavy? What if you add the Laowa ranger FF 28-75?
No worries! About 3.5kgs. You;d has to add the lens, cage + lens support and rods for the 28-75 so maybe another 1.2-1.5 kgs.
Nice rig, wondering why you would use dji grip without the motor in the third setup? Also have you tried to use the dji lidar with it?
Thanks! As I mentioned in the video I used the DJI handle as an example to show what it looks with a side handle. Haven't had the chance to use the Lidar yet :).
@@OfTwoLands ah I see thanks. Your documentaries and frames are really inspiring. Keep up the good work
Thanks for sharing. Very inspiring!!. How do you connect the V mount battery to the camera? via dummy battery or a specific cable ?
Thanks for watching! Via a lemo 2 cable, I’ve linked mine in the description 👍☺️

I am using the Camvate D-Tap to Right Angle 2-Pin Lemo and it works great powering the PYXIS!
Love it!
Thank you mate!!

NICE!

How do you find the weight vs stability using the stripped down rig? Do you get very noticeable microshakes at 105-200 mm?
What vmount adapter, battery and cable are you using to power the solution here?
Thanks in advance!
I've listed all the gear in the description :)
I was thinking of of self-shooting with it, and mounting a 45deg mirror on the side of the display. I wonder if it has a video reverse feature, you come looking right? Thanks.
Does the camera have a 3 pin lemo, like the pocket lines, to hook in external power-Vmount/gold mount?
2Pin lemo.

I'm curious if there's any soltuion like the Tilta ES-T20-BTP-V for FX6, where you can use the vmount pins directly to power without a dtap.
How heavy are they? My Cinema 6k with with 65w PD battery and matte box with rails is a little over 6 pounds.
Depends on the kit but they can get pretty heavy for sure! 6 to 12 pounds I’d say!
question about the v mount plate. I see you rigged the small rig v mount plate tenth XLCS back plate. But you said you added a cheese plate. What cheese plate is this?? thanks!
XLCS has an optional cheese plate available for their cage.
Out of interest can you use usb-c from the focus handle to focus with lenses directly like you can with the Ronin + 6k pro? (obv not for manual lenses, but just curious).
You mean without connecting the motor?
@@OfTwoLands Yeah, you can do this with the ronin + bmpcc 6k pro + 18-35mm at least. I just wondered if this carried over with the focus handle
Did it come with an SSD plate and if so, have you tried rigging with it and does it restrict putting your focus pro handle on the same side? Many Thanks
It did, yes! However I haven't used it as I don't record using with SSDs.
@@OfTwoLands do you think it would get in the way of mounting a handle on that side?
this camera rigged up is giving me red one vibes.
Haha totally!
Mix of Red and F55
How much is the weight of the #2 kit?
Around 5.5/6kgs I think!
Je rêve d'une Pyxis ces jours-ci mais tous mes accessoires (moniteurs, TX/RX, etc.) sont HDMI :(
C’est vrai que ça fait beaucoup à changer!
I can’t stand how far the monitor is from the body as a solo shooter option

Only one audio input?
Not fun in doc shooting…

But without body stabilization, this camera is useless when handheld... You should at least have a gimbal.
What haha? I’ve shot handheld for 10 years with multiple cameras and never needed IBIS. Would be nice yes but definitely not necessary.
